M Modern Gallery
3 reviews for M Modern Gallery
Ignore the strip mall location. The art is worth the disgust you feel of entering a strip mall to go to a gallery.
The set up is fine, not crowded and the staff doesn't harrass you and are helpful.
Will write more one I hit one of their parties.
Very cool gallery in Palm springs- though the drive from Long beach is a bitch. Great art, free drinks, good tunes, what more could you want? Lots of cool shows- the most recent featuring Long Beach's own Robert Pokorny of Fingerprints fame. You can always spot some really interesting people here, too- this last time we spotted a guy in a blazer with no shirt underneath- potbelly protruding in all it's glory.
We bought a painting here last year and it took forever to get it from the gallery, but he shipped it free, because of the delay. Not bad!
Too bad this so-hip-it-hurts gallery had to move to a strip mall -- the location is now less than optimal -- but all the same who can utter a negative thing about a gallery devoted to Outsider Art in the middle of the desert? Shag, Mark Ryden, and all their various followers are displayed and worshiped here.
M Modern Gallery is a Cathedral of Cool.
M Modern hosts regular events with cool themes; the last one I attended was 007-themed and featured a DJ spinning spy-inspired tunes and tons of beautiful hepcats checking out Shag's latest espionage art.
Becoming increasingly tipsy while salivating over Shag's Bambi and Thumper painting (featured inside the Diamonds are Forever House), I stole glances at all the sexy people milling around me. Surely this where hipsters go when they die.
