We HAD A BLAST at this beach!!! Everyone is right, if you are a beginner snorkeler, not a strong swimmer OR have an irrational fear of sharks (...ahem!) this is the spot for you!!!!!!!
We went here a couple of times during our visit and it was never really crowded. The first day we swam around in the water and enjoyed the small (okay tiny) waves coming through. we decided to get some cheap-o snorkel gear from the ABC market and come back again a couple of days later. AWESOME!!!!!!!! I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about ..."only two kinds of fish"....I saw AT LEAST 7 or 8 different kinds!!! The fish were soooo beautiful!!! I thoroughly enjoyed having a school of big beautiful blue fish swim right past my face. They didn't even seem scared of us...I saw some other folks feeding them so I just held my empty hand out and they came so close to me!! It was very exciting and we ended up snorkeling there for like 3 or more hours. I want to go back... RIGHT NOW!!

There aren't too many beaches in Kauai that are easy to get to and have any semblance of a public beach, but this is one of them. If you want restrooms, picnic tables, close parking, and no hike down to the beach, this is your place. It is still Kauai beautiful.
A kid's paradise!
They have everything here for the family to enjoy. Read the review Mark S. wrote for all of the details, he sums it up.
I would give it 5 stars because it made my daughter so happy to be here, but as a parent, the playground has some flaws.
One big flaw is that when my daughter was playing on the beautifully constructed kid's play structure, I could not see her most of the time. The setup is made of thick dark brown wood making it difficult for me to keep an eye on her. That made me a little nervous ... but she was fine, and as expected, she did not want to leave her new found paradise.

This was the beach we spent the most time at while in Kauai.
Reason being, it has a great rock-walled swimming area.
During the fall and winter months, the surf in Hawaii is a little rough, and a bit too much for a water wimp like me.
So, my amazing husband found this place in our "Revealed" book, and thought it would be perfect for me, and give me a chance to swim.
I was so happy!!! I loved swimming here, surrounded by beautiful tropical fish...I admit, I did ask my husband to catch one for dinner....Only one, I swear!
There's plenty of parking, and we never felt crowded on the beach. I would definitely return!
Nice family beach.
Very clean and the waters are very calm.
I wasn't "wow'd" about this beach and it's snorkeling because it didnt have the scenery as other beaches on the island. This beach was very recommended by the "Ultimate Kauai Book" though, so we checked it out.
It is a very good beach for BEGINNER snorkeling. If you have never done it before, this is the training ground to do it. The water is encased by a wall of rocks, so the waves do not get to the shore in the snorkeling area. There is a separate little kiddie wading shore area where it is shallow and great for kids!
But since I had already gone snorkeling to Poipu beach and Lawa'i beach, this was like going down the bunny slope on snowskis after skiing the intermediate slopes.
It is a very good place to just relax and lay out and read a book. Great for that.
This is a very nice park and beach! It has two small protected reefs one for little kids, and one for bigger kids. But for walking around or snorkeling you can feel pretty safe that you won't wash out to sea very far! Which in these waters I think if your not careful it could easily happen as there are warning signs all over the shores of Kauai. If you don't like to be around a bunch of people with kids then this beach isn't for you, but I walked off down the beach and found a pleasant little cove and place to lay in the sun and read a book for awhile away from the crowds. Only a little while later a small group came down the hill and tuns out they were having their wedding there! There are so many beautiful places on the island I just don't really get why they picked this beach? Oh well looks like they had a very beautiful beach wedding anyway!

we read in a couple of guidebooks that this was one of the best places to start snorkeling on kauai, for kids and for beginners. since i didn't have a great time snorkeling in maui, i thought i'd give this place a chance.
after picking up $9 rental gear from snorkel bob's, deepee and i headed down here- pretty easy to find with a map. we had some lunch, then headed toward the shore where they have a reef break that creates a swim area for snorkelers. put on the mask and fins (which you don't really need), and got my head down in the water. unfortunately, only saw about 2 types of fish, so that's why i'm only giving it 3 stars. maybe it was the time of day or something, but it was pretty lame.

If you're not a strong swimmer, this beach is perfect. It's safe, there are fish to see, and there's plenty of space to lay out and relax. It has bathrooms and a shower, too.
Being that I don't live on this island (Kaua'i) you might think that reviewing this park might be rather difficult. After having our family reunion here for a full week and really getting to walk around the park and see everything it has to offer, I do have a little something to say about it. Although be it more of a review for visitors.
If you're looking for someplace to stop off to have a nice lunch, maybe do a little swiming or let the kids run around then Lydgate park is the perfect place to go. Just a short 10-15 minute drive north of the airport, Lydgate park offers nice picnic space, a pretty nice beach to swim at, and well as not one, but TWO cool playground areas. On top of all of this they also boast a lot of open space to hold sport events and a big pavilion to hold big functions.
The area of the beach that you probably want to stick to is at the far north end where it's like a big tidepool. There's a nice little beach area and the water is a lot calmer. What really makes this park though is the Kamalani Playground and Playbridge--two different play areas for kids. At the north end of the park sits the Kamalani Playground--a number of wooden structures for kids to climb all over, run around on. I simply can't describe how cool this place is for kids, and here I am a grown up talking about it. There is just so much for them to run around on and play on over here. On the south side of the park sits the Kamalani Playbride which consists of two 2-3 story high wooden structures that sit on either side of the vehicle path that are connected by a bridge. Not as fun as the playground because it doesn't have as much stuff to do as the playground, kids with imagination and a few friends could still have a good time playing tag or chasemaster on it. One downer though about the playbridge, it's not as well maintained as the play area and I would check the lower areas of it first as homeless or others could use it as a shelter.
Cool park with a nice beach and two cool playgrounds.
***EDIT***
Ouch Jen A,
Dinging a star for advertising that you found somewhere else? A bit harsh?
