Review from Coleen L.
I've been here a few times now, and every time I have gone, it has been great. There isn't much to this little place, but man are their cookies DAMN good. I mean daaaaamn good.
I haven't tried their cakes or food because well, for one thing I don't like cake (or cupcakes), I know, what a freak. And I've never been to try any of their lunch items, but seriously, their cookies alone are worth this 5 star review.
It is a tiny little place, but their kitchen seems to be rather spacious which leads me to believe that they take their baking seriously, rather than boasting a gimmick or exterior focus. We've also tried a couple of the bubble teas, and I have never been a fan, but the mocha was awesome, and would get it again.
The people at the till have always been very attentive and patient with me whilst picking out which cookie I want to devour next, and I love the bakers dozen (13) for ten bucks! -

A great selection of ready to eat treats.
I tried the Baklava, Nanaimo cups, and bubble tea and all were delicious.
Service was fast and friendly.

The tofu sandwich seems like ham but is tofu! Inconceivable! The sammich comes stuffed with carrots, jalapenos, cilantro, and this odd, delicious hamfu, on a crunchy-crust white bread. On the one occasion I ordered something besides hamfu crack, their falafel was less moist than I like it, but tasted fine.
Also, they have great bubble tea (mix the flavors! mix the flavors!) and can tell you which flavors have/do not have diary. Plus, organic coffee! The service has always been friendly, and there is a stack of The Onion to read while I nibble.
Now I am craving hamfu! Oh! the treacherous perils of late-night review-writing. -
Review from Rachel D.
This review is based on the 4 cupcakes I bought there on Friday. Maybe it was because it was the end of the day for them but I was not happy that when I walked in I was not even greeted or at the least given a smile. Hell just smile because I am about to take some of your last cupcakes off your hands.
Again, maybe because it was the end of the day, there was not a wide variety to choose from. I took one each of the flavors 4 that were left. Strawberry, lemon, lime and white icing all on white cake. When I pointed to each and told her that I wanted each one and called them by name "strawberry?" "lemon?" "lime?' etc. She looked annoyed and just said "yes" like I was stupid. Well hells bells girl for all I know they are pineapple and slip pea. ugggg!! I just wanted to be sure.... So after that I tried not to make a face or laugh when she told me that the regular size cupcake (that anyone in the world could make), I mean the average size cupcake was the large and the mini cupcake (the one bite kind) was the medium. WHAT!! OK, if you say so.
Even after all of that I was trying to stay positive and hopeful that they would just be really good and I could put the sorry service behind me. Well, that didn't happen. Like I said all the cake was white. Not bad, soft, fresh but nothing special, I could have done it. The icing..... I will give it to them on the lime, it was actually better then I was expecting but the lemon was nasty. The strawberry was not very strawberrish. And the white was just a white on white cupcake. Nothing to get excited about.
Again, MAYBE, I just went at the wrong time but having this experience I don't really feel like I will make the effort to go back again. I made the effort this time and it didn't pay off for me. I even chose to try Lux over another bakery in the area. There are so many bakeries to choose from and I want to try as many as I can (because I LOVE the cupcake) and was not impressed with Lux. I didn't even feel like the shop was inviting enough to want to sit and have one there.
I hate being negative but I just want to be honest about my owe little experience here. Sorry Lux, Sugar Mama's just kicked your cupcake butt!!Comment from Tim and Ann L. of Lux Bakery & Cafe 8/8/2011

These people are geniuses! I have been trying to get places that make cupcakes to make the mini-cupcakes, since I generally want to try more than one flavor. Lux has mini-cupcakes and they are delicious. We got those suckers and finished them with red wine, since beer does not go very well with cupcakes. Crap, my boyfriend just confessed to breaking a wine glass. So, happy I get my wine glasses from Goodwill. Anyway, we plan on going back to Lux for lunch since they have a pretty good sammich menu.

There is no cream cheese in their cream cheese frosting.* This place is sub par and so very underwhelming. Definitely NOT lux.
* You must ask for cream cheese frosting, so don't assume it's on there. The owners, via Yelp, have reached out--kudos to them--and said they would work on making their display case signage clearer.Comment from Tim and Ann L. of Lux Bakery & Cafe 8/10/2011

Once again, I disagree with the majority of Yelpers. I'm sorry, but I just didn't think this place alone was worth the long drive.
I was intending to eat lunch at Cafe Racer, and then head to Lux for dessert. Had I been able to locate Cafe Racer, and only eaten dessert at Lux, Lux would be getting 4 stars from me, easily.
I got a grilled chicken sammich and iced tea. The sammich was not at all what I expected. Shredded carrots, cucumbers, some other green veggie I couldn't identify, and a buttload of cilantro (ACK!), along with grilled chicken pellets bathed in what I think was teriyaki sauce. What was I expecting? I was expecting grilled chicken with mayo or Ranch dressing, with lettuce, cheese, and maybe some tomatoes or bacon, or something. Big disappointment. This is like asking for a state-of-the-art HD LCD TV for Christmas and instead getting a 1975 CRT TV with broken rabbit ears. A whole day, and several hand-washings later, my fingers still smell like teriyaki sauce.
I'd also like to point out that the overhead menu said nothing about what was on this sammich, nor did the paper menus. The paper menus only speak of pastries. It would not be unusual to expect lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes on a grilled chicken sammich. It WOULD be unusual to expect carrots, cilantro, and teriyaki sauce on a grilled chicken sammich; therefore, I felt no reason to ask the counter person what came on the sammich. My advice to Ann Lux would be to post the ingredients on the overhead menu.
HOWEVER, on the way out I purchased a mint chocolate chip cupcake and some fudge (four pieces in a pack). I decided Susi R's boyfriend makes much better fudge, quite frankly, but I was extremely impressed with the cupcake. It was as moist as all get out, and the mint icing with chocolate chips in it was fantastic. I'm not usually an icing fan because most of it either tastes too fake or too rich, but Lux's icing was light, extremely flavorful, and creamy. I also wanted to try an Orange Dreamsicle cupcake, but they only had mini ones when I was there.
I recommend to you, my friends, to eat lunch elsewhere and only look to Lux to provide you with cupcakes, for that is where they excel. If I'm ever in this area again, I'll go back for seconds, but I won't make a special trip to go to Lux alone. Gotta say, though, their cupcakes beat the batter outta the cupcakes at Cupprimo, which is within walking distance of my house.
I feel like summarizing in verse...
The pastries they bake,
And the sammiches they make
Are completely different animals.
The grilled chicken disaster --
Which required oil of castor --
Made me wish it were flammable.
On their cakes of cup
I would so willingly sup.
Those things are real damn tasty.
That being true,
If I again happen through,
I will eat the cupcakes quite hasty.Comment from Tim and Ann L. of Lux Bakery & Cafe 1/4/2011

I went here last Sunday during happy hour (around 2-ish which was a surprise to me) and we got a bubble tea and a mocha drink that were excellent.
I even got a mini lime cupcake. It was fantastic.
They had wonderful sweet treats. They even had Peanut Mutter dog treats that the kiddos really liked.
A customer in there made it a point to tell me how spectacular their carrot cake was. She had ordered them twice for 2 separate occasions.
The staff was outstanding. The store had a pleasant energy, the cake book with pictures was fun to look at and this was a definite 5 star experience. We look forward to returning, and so should you. -

Lux is overall a great place to grab a bite. The food menu is really good and the drink options are practically endless.
Then there is the bakery case...
The cupcakes are good they come in two sizes, regular and mini.
The mini is the perfect bite sized guilt-free way to get your cupcake on, and it's only 85 cents. Can't go wrong!
The best flavors are Chocolicious, Mint Chocolate, and the Fruity flavors. I love the Key Lime... if you love lime, then you will love this cupcake!
There are other amazing goodies like lemon bars and cookies.
It will take quite a few trips to try everything, but I'm willing to accept that challenge.Listed in: Cupcake Heaven

Anne is the sweetest. She did my wedding cake back in November and seeing a picture of it up on the wall at Lux this afternoon when I stopped by for lunch and a sweet treat after running 5 miles on the greenbelt was cool. My wife and I both had falafel wraps, bubble drinks, and we split a chocolate cupcake with strawberry icing. Everything was great as usual.
Pricing is very reasonable, especially if you keep up with the specials and coupons and whatnot like my wife.
If you're looking for a place for a wedding cake, go see Anne and you won't regret it. Our cake was amazing. We could really tell Anne put lots of love into it. -

My favorite thing about Yelp is trying some place because of a great review, and then finding out the review was exactly right. That's pretty much how I wound up at Lux Bakery and Café.
I never heard of this place until I read Jacquelyn N.'s review, but now I can tell you two more things: If it's your first time going there, don't blink or you might miss it, and if Lux had cheeks, you'd want to pinch them, because this place is so darn cute.
When I got there they were bringing out a Chicago-style dog which looked intriguing, but I opted for the Asian Chicken Salad with peanut dressing and a chocolate chip cookie, since Jacquelyn rated that specific combination at ten billion five stars. And all things considered, her numbers are correct. Lux serves some interesting and excellent food here, although I'm not quite sure exactly where they're making it--is there a kitchen behind the counter?
I'll give their red velvet cupcake 3.5 stars--great flavor, unique fluffy frosting, but just slightly on the subjective dry side for me. But the lemon cupcake here is a straight 1100 stars, because it's flat-out fantastic. Incidentally, I didn't eat all this stuff in one sitting.
I think that brings my running-man total to 10,000,001,108.5, which I'll just round-up to five-stars for brevity. Oh, lighten up already--who you gonna call? Yelpbusters? I think the real reason Lux is great is because it pretty much represents everything I believe in: Doing something, doing it well, and having good things happen because of it. Consider giving this place a try, you just might be pleased as well.Listed in: "Oh Mama, You So Sweet....", "Eatin' Cheap & Good in…

I came here again a few days ago to try the Vietnamese style chicken sandwich (sub) and it was so delicious! I loved the flavors, including the crunch of the tasty jalapeno in my sandwich. My fiance ordered the cuban sandwich and he thinks it was pretty good too, the sauce was super heavy though, so beware! You must be in the mood for this, hah!
We ordered the hummus as an appetizer with pita chips, and it was pretty good too. I love the friendly service and my Vanilla Chai bubble tea was awesome!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Note: I am only reviewing their boba drinks. My sis-in-law and I were craving boba and decided to drop by and try their drinks out (there arn't many boba options close by where she lives) and was disappointed. Both of us got tea flavored drinks (vs. the fruity ones) and neither of ours had a strong tea flavor. Just tasted like sweet, milky water. Maybe I'm too harsh and have higher expectations as I live in SoCal where I can get some pretty amazing boba drinks.

This was the 1st stop on our "cupcake adventure." My son and I went out tasting cupcakes, doing "research" to decide where to order his birthday cupcake-cake.
The store looks like they are spending most of their energy baking rather than decorating (good thing); nothing fancy.
The lady who helped us was nice enough: not overly bubbly or helpful, but adequate. She definitely didn't care that we were there - if anything, we were an interruption to routine. Didn't make me want to ask any questions about birthday cake ordering.
Several different kinds of cupcakes were available. My son and I had 2 each: 1 regular sized and 1 mini. My favorite was the chocolate cake with the mint icing. But other than that, I don't have much to say about these cupcakes. They are traditional sized (not Texas-sized). They have a very fine texture - the type of texture that reminds me of box mixes = moist and delicious, yes, but no better than a box mix.
The level of sugar content, however, is my "BOO" for them: not only did we not want to finish our cupcakes, we felt ridiculously sugar-overloaded after our sampling. To actually hear a 5 year old state that he has had too much sugar & request to not go to another cupcake place... now that's a lot of sugar.
The price here was less expensive than another bakery (our 2nd stop) - as though our mini cupcakes were free (by comparison).
We chose this place first on our adventure mainly because it was closest to our house, but also by reviews.
I can conclude this review by saying that I don't plan on returning...
Since the initial review post, I think it so admirable of the owners to post a reply. As reviews go, all tastes are different to people - all opinions are purely that of the individual posting the review. Don't let our review dissuade you from trying out these cupcakes. You can tell that the owners have their heart into their baking and providing not only a good product, but good responses. Because of a sweet ending to our story, I boosted the score by a star! I wish Lux nothing but the best! Thank you!Comment from Tim and Ann L. of Lux Bakery & Cafe 11/26/2011

Had the Chicken Gyro --Marinated white meat chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and yogurt sauce wrapped in pita
My daughter had the grilled cheese and she said it was the best she ever had.
For dessert (you can't come to a bakery without getting something sweet) we had these mini little treasures of bliss. The mint cake ball was fantastic. My girl had a little mini cupcake and it was hit.
We left happy and satisfied.
Thinking I might go back and get some of those little balls for Valentines day for the rest of the family. Especially since they have multiple flavors....yummy!! -

Yum! I ventured way out of my hood to check out lux bakery down south thanks to errol's review! and by association, thanks to jacquelyn n.'s review! i love word of mouth at its finest :)
i ordered the tofu gyro and almond bubble tea. the tea had a hint of salty flavor and was amazingly refreshing, milky but not that powdery taste you get at some bubble tea places. the tof was actually pretty flavorful. i almost thought it was some type of viet sausage and had to check. i do wish there was more tofu in the wrap b/c it's a pretty thin slice but the pita was very soft with lots of lettuce, tomato and white sauce.
for dessert, i got the mocha and strawberry mini cupcakes and the chocolate chip and ginger snap cookies to go. i tore in to the ginger snap right away, and it was super soft, thin and had the perfect amount of spice. i sampled the chocolate chip next and was happy to find that it was buttery, moist, and delectably chocolatey...just like it should be! i took the cupcakes home and sampled them the next day. great icing, not too sweet but good texture (not too dry either). i really like the strawberry, it's light and fluffy. they could be more moist but probably hard to judge from a day old mini cupcake. i just like that there are mini options so i can try more! going back next time to try the whoopie, and i hope they have lemon on my next visit.
nice, friendly staff, clean and cute place. i love how they have packaged sweets to take home and dog biscuits too! i really like this place! -

We will definitely be getting our son's birthday cake from Lux again, Ann (?) was so thoughtful and creative, she created a completely unique batman design (cityscape and road to accommodate batcar and batman figure) on top of a tasty cake.
Awesome!

I am always next door at pho thai son and after getting a coupon for a buy one get from free, decided to drop in.
The place is small but sweet with lots of pictures of some of the cake designs that Ann can produce. We were the only ones in there and I ordered a chinese pork banh mi (sandwich) with no cucumbers and the asian chicken salad after the reviews on here raved about it.
The sandwich was close to $6 which is very expensive compared to the banh mi stores in austin which range around $3-4 a sandwich. It was good though with a very crisp and fresh taste. They forgot to leave out the cucumbers but oh well.
The salad though was disappointing. The chicken portion was pretty small but flavorful and the peanut sauce was super oily.
I also ordered the saigon coffee which was good and a mini cupcake for my daughter...the cupcake wasnt all that great and tasted like something I could bake.
I was very impressed with the displays on the wall of some of the cake work..some looked amateurish while others were AMAZING such as the graduation cap cake.
Will I come here again? Maybe...if I had another coupon. -

This is the perfect place for lunch on those unbearably hot Austin summer days. I've been coming to this place since it was still called "Chooby Doo," and from what I've heard the owners of Chooby Doo sold their recipes to the owners of Lux. My usual is the chicken gyro and a coconut bubble drink.
I didn't know what a gyro was before coming to this place, but let me tell you what--I'm a believer. The chicken's seasoned well, it's topped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes and then this SUPER refreshing sauce stuff (sorry for the non-technical term, I have no idea what it is...it's something like yogurt) with cool crisp cucumbers in it. De-LISH. And they're nice enough to put the sauce on the side for you when you order to-go so that it doesn't make the bread soggy before you get home.
Then, this delicious gem of a sandwich is paired with a delicious frozen bubble drink. I usually get coconut but sometimes if I'm feeling crazy I get something fruity like mango. My favorite part about their bubble drinks is that they aren't overly sweet. The taste very very natural as opposed to 'artificial' like say Slurpees or Snow Cones. Watermelon actually tastes like you're biting into a watermelon instead of eating watermelon-flavored candy. This makes them feel more like a great refreshing beverage rather than a dessert.
It took me a while to get used to the pearls but they really grew on me and now I order with extra. :) They might seem weird and scary, but give them a try!
And to top it all of, the ladies that run this place are just so delightful and always give service with a smile! -

Mocha cupcake is perfection. The frosting is absolutely amazing. I take trips over there just for that and am sad when there is none left :(
Great happy hour for bubble drinks. I prefer a smoothie consistency (which I haven't quite found the right balance of milk and fruit yet at Lux). I would also like the pearls a bit softer, and I like mine warm. But, a good product that can't be beat for the price.
It's so nice to see a small business bloom. Keep up the work :) -

A few months back I moved to the hinterlands of far south Austin, and was happy to discover the Man Pasand Indian grocery store in the same strip mall as Lux Bakery. Every time I needed some Indian groceries, I glanced at the front door of Lux, saw the bubble tea advertised, and moved on. Not because I dislike bubble tea, but because I have never liked Chinese baked goods.
Lucky for me, I read rave reviews of Lux on yelp, and realized that Lux is most likely not Chinese run, but probably Vietnamese (and their baked goods have the French influence, which is much more up my alley). Whatever background the baker has, Lux 100% DELICIOUS and is now going to be my #1 stop for cupcakes.
I got one chocolate cupcake with mocha frosting, one chocolate cupcake with mint frosting, one red velvet cupcake, and one flourless chocolate torte. Let's start with the prices: $2.00 a piece for the cupcakes, and $4 for the generous 'personal' torte. Now, my favorite cupcake baker of all-time is Sugar Mamas, so that is what I compare all other cupcakes to. I was SO happy when I ate my first bite of the chocolate mocha. The cake is equal to that of Sugar Mama's. Moist and dark chocolate, with a dense crumb. The frosting was very flavorful, and was just the right amount, but it was a little too frothy for my own taste. Don't get me wrong, it is still excellent frosting, but it is just not as dense as my ultimate frosting.
The chocolate torte is among the best I have ever had. Thick, moist, and dense, with bittersweet chocolate that is not too sweet. The thin glaze on top makes it perfection. If Lifetime Fitness didn't cost so much, I'd eat one of these jammies every day.
I'm thinking I may have to do a blind taste test with a Lux cupcake and Sugar Mama's cupcake, and report back. P.S. Check out my photos.Comment from Tim and Ann L. of Lux Bakery & Cafe 8/5/2010

The four stars are for the pumpkin whoopie pie. Oh my pumpkin cream cheese heaven!
The chicken gyro left something to be desired. Kind of gnarly chunks of chicken if you ask me...but really should my expectations for popular Greek street food really be placed on Lux? I can't expect a fiery spit in the back roasting chicken all day in conjunction with a kitchen housed to baked delicious and bountiful pumpkin whoopies.
Taro Boba tea, could have been more Taro-ey, but the boba was the nice. chewy, slightly sweet kind.
I think next time I'll stick with the baked goods and maybe try a Banh Mi (aka pork sandwich) or their spring rolls. Jaquelyn N.'s enthusiasm for this place gives me no choice, but to keep on trying things out. Oh and being on the way home from work doesn't hurt either! -

Today was one of my co-workers' birthdays, and we ordered a couple of cheesecakes from Lux to celebrate. Now, I'm not normally a fan of cheesecake; it's just usually too heavy, and makes my stomach feel like a couple of bricks of cream cheese are languishing in there afterwards. Not sayin' I don't eat it, mind you; just sayin' that it isn't usually my favorite. So I didn't protest when the birthday girl cut me a pretty slim slice of the blueberry cheesecake.
I joined everyone at the conference table with my slice...my fork moved to the cheesecake...speared a small bite...then went into slow-mo mode as it made its way ever...so...deliberately into my mouth...slowing even further as it neared my tongue...and as it made contact,...
...the clouds parted, the heavens opened up, and angels began singing in a joyful chorus! Perfect texture - so light! So creamy! Perfect flavor - not too sweet, with a hint of luscious blueberry! And the proportion of crunchy graham crackery crust to fluffy blueberryish cheesy cloudness was just right. It was so amazing that it caused me to make tacky references to angels and grossly overuse exclamation points in the review I wrote about it later that day.
And now I read the reviews of this place and see that they have a banh mi-like sandwich, and that they are right. by. my. office.
You have to dig a little more for the amazingly awesome eats in southwest Austin, but they're there.
Lux, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

EDIT, 9/11/09:
So, my entire office was so enthusiastic about this place after That Cheesecake that we ordered lunch from here the very next day. Alas, my sandwich was not the mind-altering experience that the cheesecake was. I got the Asian pork sandwich (duh), and while it was good, it just wasn't as tasty as other banh mi I've had in the past; the sauce on the pork was much too sweet, and the sandwich seemed small considering the price ($7.99 for a banh mi/bubble tea combo...not bad under normal circumstances, but I'm used to paying $3 for GIGANTIC, maximumly delicious banh mi at Thanh Nhi). The bubble tea also didn't quite stack up to the bubble teas of Christmases past. I got a coconut milk bubble tea, and it was too icy, too frothy, and not coconutty enough.
I'm still absolutely delighted that this place is near my office, and am excited to try some of their other offerings (more cheesecake, plz), but I can't quite bring myself to give it that fifth star.
P.S. 5% discount for paying with cash!Listed in: ROTD's

I used to go to this place when it was called Chooby Doo. I guess it was bought out (?) and they did some remodeling and changed the name.
When I originally saw that the name changed, I immediately had a fear pain in my belly because this was the place I had already decided to have the best falafel and tahini sauce in town, and was instantly terrified that it would disappear forever.
Luckily, to my delighted benefit, they pretty much kept the old Chooby Doo menu (including the falafel recipe, thank gawd) and I can still enjoy the best falafel (hands down) this town has to offer.Listed in: Top Restaurants

This -- at least for me -- ended up being one of those "I can't believe I've not been here yet, 'specially cause I'm over this way often" places. We dropped in on them for lunch today, and I have to say that my first trip to Lux was a happy one. For starters, the staff is super friendly here (borderline enthusiastic) and was really intent on the personal service aspect of the business. It was pretty clear during our time in that the personal touch was a matter of pride for these guys, and they've been getting some favorable recent attention, both from Yelpers and elsewhere.
I tried out the turkey sandwich, which came served on French bread and was just about the perfect size: not so petite as to be a speed bump on the way to impending hunger, not so massive as to require my airlifting after lunch. For the coup de gras, we were offered tiny celebratory cupcakes (a great name for a band) and I happily devoured an orange one in a couple of carefree bites, while the dessert lover wrangled a chocolate mint number. Thanks for the hospitality, Lux...see ya again one day soon.Listed in: Eating Healthy In Austin

Although the prices are very reasonable, they fall in line with typical Vietnamese sandwich commodity prices. This place is catered towards Americans, and does not have an authenticate taste. The pastries and bakery portion of the cafe should be rated highly, but the cafe ranking brings it down due to the hours of operations.
I was hoping for some savory baked goods but was let down on that front as well. Worth visiting at least once, but it will be hard for me to come back unless I want baked goods specially catered. -

Marla C. won free lunch here so I tagged along for lunch today. She's right! This is a little gem. For $6 I had a China Pork sandwich (much like bahn mi) and a bag of Cheetos (shut up, they're tasty) and an iced tea with free refill. They were pretty backed up as I think only the owner and her father were working and there was a decent sized crowd, but what I had was good and Ann (the owner) couldn't have been any nicer.
A couple of us had cupcakes at the end. Try the lemon! Ooooooooh they're good. Ann told us to get lime next time, that they seemed to be a favorite. I'll be back for sure! -

Lux has done a little remodeling since the last time I stopped in. The desserts are displayed front and center in a more tempting way, which makes it awfully hard for me to resist when stopping in for a sandwich (Chinese BBQ pork is my fave, btw).
They have a few lunch combos I stop in for time to time. About $6.50 will get you a sandwich, chips and a drink. And they have combos that also include bubble tea. So its not dirt cheap, but a nice alternative to Thundercloud or Subway.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I suspect that the best barometer of quality for an Asian-owned bakery and cafe would not be the chili dog, but I can't help the fact that that was precisely what I was in the mood for when my best girl and I stopped in for a bite here last week.
And--who woulda thunk it--the results were delicious. Three bucks scored me a giant seasoned beef frank with what appeared to be house-made chili. This was the best chili dog I've had in years, and has me wondering what they might actually suck at, as my girlfriend's grilled cheese was similarly scrumptious.
It's amazing to me that a strip center whose most distinguishing characteristic is a Firestone Tire shop could be harboring this culinary anomaly. -

Hooray for a place that knows how to whip up a great Bubble Tea!
After the talk thread about this place the other day, I had a mad craving for those delicious little pearls, so me and the pooch hopped in the car to check it out.
I really didn't expect much, especially because I never really liked the "Chooby Doo International Cafe" that was in this space before Lux, but WOW. They have cookies, cakes, scones and blueberry muffins as well as salads, all super cheap!
The Boba Tea was perfect, and kudos to them for not cutting the end of the straw at an angle - that just makes it impossible to get the last pearl from the bottom of the cup!
They do offer a 5% discount for cash, so my blueberry muffin was under a dollar, and it was just as good as the ones you'd pay double for at some coffee shops.
I'll be back to try lunch, without my pup so I can spend some quality time inside this cute little bakery. -

Recommend.
Ordered: Cuban Sandwich, Chicken Caesar Wrap, Strawberry & Orange Cupcakes.
Delicious bread and very meaty. Great cupcakes, very moist. The icing tasted like sherbet! -

This place used to be Chooby Doo International Cafe and still has the same multi ethnic menu plus bakery items.
The bakery items are a great addition. I got a a Yellow Cupcake with Strawberry Buttercream Icing for only 1.50 for my Niece on her Birthday and she said it was the best icing she had ever tasted.
Since, the name change I have only had the Chicken Gyro - juicy, flavorfull chicken, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and yogurt sauce in a warm pita for less than 5.00.
A Greek influence dominates the menu with Gyros, Hummus, Babaghanoush, Dolmas and Tabbouleh. But Asian, Cuban, Italian sandwiches and salads and Chicago Hot Dogs are also there. And there are many Vegetarian options.
They also offer Smoothies and Bubble Tea!Listed in: Where I get my Sandwich fix

I went here for the Ban Mi and Chocolate Chip cookies. The bread was not crispy on the outside which is a must for a proper Ban Mi and the pork was REHEATED! Argh!
The chocolate chip cookies were over priced and had no soul.

Dudes!! I dropped my business card in their fishbowl, and won a free lunch for myself, and 5% off of the lunches of any friends I brought in. So today I convinced three coworkers to accompany me to Lux for lunch. All though the service was a little slow (as Jaye mentioned in her review), the food was fresh and good. And I love the personal service that Ann (the owner) gives each customer. She is one of those small business owners who I really love to support because she offers an excellent product with a lot of heart.
Today I tried the M&M cookies, and they were excellent: chewy and not too huge (as not to induce too much guilt).
Hey: here's a tip. If you go to their website, you can learn about daily/weekly specials and sign up to get e-mail coupons. This week I got one to get $2 off any order of $10 or more. Not a bad deal at all!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Finally a full service bakery in South Austin!
When I first walked in, I didn't really know what to think because it didn't smell like a bakery; there was not the smell of fresh baked cookies or bread, and there was not very much selection on display behind the counter. But I did not want to be rude and just walk out, so I ordered some cookies and a little mini cheesecake, and took it home to share with my husband.
We were amazed. Seriously, the Snickerdoodle cookies were the best I've ever had, and the cheesecake was absolutely perfect. The chocolate chip cookies were soft and chewy - just the way they should be. Highly recommended!!! -

I lovelovelove Lux. I love milk tea, I love tofu, and I love cupcakes. How often do you find those three things together?
The milk tea was perfectly sweetened, not overdone. The tofu sandwich on pita was chewy and delicious. I had a mini orange and mini lemon cupcake- perfect bite-size treats.
Oh, and they have a bubble tea punch card! -

My wife, son and I went here for lunch on Saturday.
Wife and I got the asian pork sandwhich. Amazing. It's not quite the same as a banh mi - but it's extremely good. Kiddo got the hot dog ($2!)
Also - I got a side salad. Their house asian honey mustard is amazing - and unfortunately they make it themselves so I can't go buy it! Boo!
Lastly - we tried a mini cupcake of every flavor. All very good - our favs were the fruit flavors (lime, orange, lemon).
We'll be back very often.Listed in: Banh Mi Restaurants in Austin

I have found confection bliss! Not only are the sugar cookies little works of art, they are sooooooo tasty! The service was excellent, the owner took the time to chat and answer a couple questions about wedding cake services. .Extra points for not being too busy to have a pleasant and informative conversation with a customer.
The creative cafe menu is sure to please the luncheon crowd. We love, love, love the hand painted wall decor. This place has Class and is sure to become a South Austin treasure.
