I had my first appointment at Lush this week and I was very pleased.  I can't really speak to the receptionist's attitude or anything because my stylist, Christie was at the front desk when I walked in.  She immediately greeted me and offered me something to drink.  I am very happy with the results of my cut and I love the fact that she didn't try to talk me in to doing something drastic.  She managed to inform me about products without making me feel like it was a sales pitch.  I had to ask her where I could get the Bumble and Bumble hair powder she was using so that I could buy it.  I hate when I feel like I'm being sold to.

I would recommend Christie to anyone.  She listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly that.  She also does make-up which I am excited about because I love getting my make-up done for special occasions.  All in all, I enjoyed my experience at Lush and I will be back.

My stylist Jonathan moved from Spanish Fly  to Lush about 3 weeks ago.  As any normal, loyal customer would do, I followed him back to Lush.  That is where he originally started.

Lush is a sister salon of Spanish Fly, but the family relations end there. While Spanish Fly has a more edgy atmosphere, Lush is not...Its a little more quite.    Both Salons carry Bumble & Bumble products which I Love.

Johnathan does wonderful work.  He is expensive but worth it.  I trust him with my hair.  He has a good eye and he knows how to style hair.  I love my hair every time I leave the salon.

I LOVE ADRIENNE at Lush!  Every time I come in, I am offered a drink and my wait time is practically zero minutes!  They are always really friendly and helpful.  I can almost always get an appointment in when I need it, and if I can't, they are totally accommodating.  My cuts are always satisfactory, wait I take that back, more than satisfactory!  When I walk out of the salon I feel like a supermodel!  hehehe  I would recommend this salon to anyone who needs a new, modern, and hip cut.

Really unhappy with the level of customer service I received here. I totally admire and respect Rachel for her degree of professionalism and respect.  However, I have great concerns of the owner of this place.  I was very dissatisfied with my last service.  The owner knew and never reached out.  Not only that, I posted something on facebook about it. Instead of contacting me and finding out more, she deleted my post and blocked me out as a potential user.  How reliable is this salon's reviews if all you are seeing is the good?????  They have great products, however, I have lost all respect for the owner and the last gal that did my hair.  Very very, rude and unprofessional outfit!!!!

I was referred to Lush several years ago by a couple friends who have been going to Maggie for several years...they each have really different styles of hair but they both always look great. When I called to book my appointment I ended with Kari and thought I would give her a try. Kari was fantastic! Lush is very warm and cozy feeling and anyone Ive ever come in contact with has been friendly and helpful. Kari is a real expert with hair and not afraid to risk doing something edgy. I never feel pressured to purchase any products that I dont want to, and she has taken the time to get to know me and what is going to work for my style and hair type.

The prices I found very reasonable although I dont typically do much with color. The times I have done peices of color I was still happy with the price.

Kari recently did my hair for my wedding and I recieved a complimentary practice style as well as my day of style for only $50. I loved that as soon as I came in, she had ideas for me and created an awesome and unique retro do for my big day.

Highly recomended. Anyone who thinks they have an attitude is probably a suburban princess.

My stylist from Spanish Fly moved here about 2 months ago.  As any normal, loyal customer would do, I followed her.

Lush is a sister salon of Spanish Fly, but the family relations end there. While Spanish Fly has a more hip and edgy atmosphere, Lush is more cozier (read: smaller space) and the layout is not as open.  They do carry Bumble & Bumble products which I use DAILY to take care of my tresses.

I came in for full highlights, color (staying within the same red undertones as I've had before) and a bang trim.  Angel is my stylist and I've always been satisfied with the work she's done in the last two and half years on my hair.

But her price mark-up since moving here is quite high.  (full highlights: $100, color: $90)  versus when she was still at Spanish Fly.  (full highlights: $85, color:  half of what I paid at Lush) Believe it!  One time when I came to Spanish Fly just for color, I only paid $45 for it.  Her bang trims are free. (if you get other hair services done)

Ok, I understand that my hair is 3 inches longer than she's used to doing, but for a price close to $200 (that's without a tip yet!) I might as well get my hair done in SF.  (oh, BTW, this salon does not take Amex, so I had to get extra cash at the ATM)

Making that 90-mile trip to Sactown before was no trouble at all.  Now, it doesn't seem like it's worth it. I'm truly sorry to say that.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, my friend.  But it will bring more sorrow to my bank account if I don't.

I love my stylist Adrienne!  She knows my hair and what it will and won't do.. which is much of anything! She's an ace stylist in cutting short hair, and great at coloring!!! Plus, she's a genious at re-creating new clothes from retro stuff .. she even takes special clothing requests!!!  I don't really pay much attention to the ambience of the place, it's very nice, relaxed.

I read the reviews here and went simply on the basis of Rachel Taylor and her curly hair reviews.  I have previously had my hair cut by Heather Anderson of Space 07 whose cut I thought was by no means at all bad.  But compared to Rachel's, well, I much prefer my current cut.

I have naturally curly hair and it was down mid back.  I wanted to go really short but Rachel was able to advise me to go about shoulder length.  I could appreciate that.  Still, ALOT of hair came off.  My hair now is super easy to deal with.

We also got to talking about color.  I'm a color virgin and when I asked her about possible coloring she didn't try to steer me down an expensive, addictive road.

I hope she stays here forever. and ever.  I don't think I can have my haircut by anyone else again.

I was having a horrible hair day, you know all dry, split ends, fly aways, etc. I gave Lush a call and they were nice enough to squeeze me in last minute. The place has a great vibe and everyone was really friendly. Brian did my cut. He was great!!! I didn't really know what I wanted other than something different than what I had. He got me a glass of wine and got to work. He was patient and explained all along what he was doing and how it was going to affect the overall look. The difference was incredible, I left feeling like a million bucks and confident that I could repeat the results at home. I'm definitely going back.

Love Kari G. she's great with my wild curly and cow licked hair.
also, just had an eyebrow waxing done with Sarah and loved the result... She tinted them for me too.. which I've never had done (probably won't do again, since its a little frivolous.) but they looked great.

Ya, they are pricey... but I'm always happy with the result. so to me its worth it.

I do not understand why Lush is rated so much lower than Spanish Fly.  It is under the same ownership as Spanish Fly with the same exact stylists - even the same receptionist (just with a more feminine facade).

With that said - refer to my review of Spanish Fly.

p.s. Spanish Fly gift cards do not work at Lush or vice versa.

I was very disappointed with my experience with Lush. Please keep in mind that it's unfair to judge a salon by one stylist, though salons have the responsibility to ensure the quality of the stylists they hire. Nonetheless, I found this salon overpriced and my haircut and color disappointing.

Part of the annoyance I have with this salon is that they quoted me $140 over the phone for a cut and half head of highlights for the specific stylist I booked with. They did not give me a range - they said simply $140. When I went to pay, the receptionist charged me $200, for a trim and half head of highlights. I am not one to complain and barter about prices, so to be fair I accepted it and compensated by giving a small tip.  But still, overcharging by nearly 50% on a mediocre (AT BEST) hairdo lost my business immediately.

The issue I had with the service itself was that the highlights were sloppily done (ie, dye much closer to my roots at some part than at others, and allover was not close enough to my roots, even at the front) and my roots were colored a brassy, orange-y color. When it began to grow out I felt I had three colors on my head - light brown at the root, an inch of orange, then my usual blonde. In the three years I've been highlighting to this color I've never experienced such a terrible result.  The cut was mediocre - nothing special, nothing to complain about. Really more of a trim that maintained my cut done by my previous hairdresser in Southern California.

Don't be fooled by the nice location and pretty decorating - you can find much better stylists in Sacramento.

I have walked by Lush many times while hanging in Midtown. It looks cools. When I experienced a hair trauma with my long-time stylist, I decided to give them a try. They got me in the same day, which is always a plus when you are at the end of patience with your bad hair.

Tiffany was my stylist and she's very hip, peaceful, and comes off as being skilled - she listens and understands. She was able to transform my Herman-Munster head hair into a face-framing, edgy, just-for-me hair cut that I can work with while it grows out a little. I feel stylish and more like me again.

I will definitely go back to Tiffany. I like the products they use (Bumble & Bumble) and the salon has a nice feel. It is a bit pricey, but from what I experienced, I paid for someone who has skills, talent, and education with practical knowledge - that is priceless when I'm wearing it on my head.

Thank you, Tiffany!

Lush wishes it could be the pretentious salon it tries to be.  The last time I had my haircut there the stylist spent the entire time looking at herself in the mirror and telling my how much more healthy her hair was than mine.  I would hope so considering she works at a salon with free products... My boyfriend got his hair cut and he looked like a five year old not to mention one side was longer than the other.  I found much better luck down the street at Spanish Fly!

I like to get my ass kissed when I spend $180.00 on a haircut and color.
Especially by the twerpy brace faced 25 year old receptionist.

I have been going to the same stylist for 5 years (Rebecca M.). I get a good cut, and have followed her from salon to salon as she has moved for various reasons (her prices have increased about 20% with no customer loyaly discount, BTW).

HOWEVER...I will be finding a new stylist. This has very little to do with Rebecca. It has much more to do with the pain in the ass front desk boy that announced very loudly with a smirk and a snort how much money I had tipped my stylist ($15.00) which is reasonable, if not generous for a $50.00 cut (I only color every 12 weeks). he also shouted "I dont know what you would pay $15.00 for here".

F U little man.

So now I have to find a new stylist, which I find highly annoying. I will never go back. Sorry Rebecca.

Well Lush, you have officially proven to me TWICE that I will never come back. The first time I was just pissed about the giant price increase my stylist (who I had followed for years) charged me...especially after she wouldn't even dry my hair because she was running late to pick up her kid. Although I loved the stylist my college budget could simply not afford a $200 haircut/color. The last and final experience I had at Lush...well, I would like to explain it a bit...

In May I  received a gift card from my friend as a college graduation present for a massage or facial by Cisco (Sisco?).  With the gift card had Lush's business card. I called to schedule the massage or facial in August after I went on vacation...so I was brooooke! Perfect time to use the gift card! I called to schedule an appointment and told them I had a gift card for Cisco, they said that he is no longer there and scheduled me with Sara T (?) for a facial. I show up to the appointment, let them know AHEAD of time that I had the gift card/certificate and I am ushered into the room. NEVER once was asked to show the gift card. Sara was sooo sweet and I had an amazing facial. I definitely thought about coming back to see her.

This is when things go down hill....

I go up to the counter to give them the gift  card, after tipping Sara (of course...), and am told that the gift certificate will not be honored and I will have to pay $75. HUH? Mmmmm, welllll, what do I do? My boyfriend walks in to pick me up and sees the shit about to the fan. I am bombarded by two receptionist who continuously shove the "real gift card" in my face and tell me that what I have is something that Cisco created. Sooo, my boyfriend steps in and says that the owner or manager needs to be called because this is a mix up but I should not have to pay for the service. The receptionist reluctantly calls the owner and walks  around the corner (probably didn't even call...) comes back and says, sorry, you will have to pay. This went on for a while... So then my boyfriend looks at the gift card and notices that it was signed by someone else other than Cisco. We point that out and the receptionist admits that it was a Lush employee signature. We go back and forth some more, they give me some bogus number and tell me to call Cisco, then back and forth more and more. Finally, he calls the owner again (after disappearing around the corner...) and says, "I am sorry for this mix up, your facial was OUR gift to you. Please come back again soon!"

I immediately contact my friend who I received the gift card from and she said that she bought the gift certificate from a receptionist at Lush using her debit card.

I know this is one experience and it hopefully doesn't happen often, but like L.S. says...Lush is everything wrong ... especially the snobby attitudes and shitty customer service. Thank GAWD I didn't give them money.

Sorry Sara T. you are awesome...if you ever work somewhere else I will find you!

So, I've gone to Lush to be waxed a few times, and once to have my hair cut.

The hair cut I had took a year to fix. I have long hair, and I said, "Do NOT layer it." Oh, no. She "textured" it. Crap. For $150 of a cut, I expect someone to listen to me. For that same price, I now drive to Napa and have my favorite-est stylest do my hair. But I digress...

On to the waxing:
Cisco is good, it's true. He's very nice, but as has been stated, he's an independent contractor. The others who have done my waxing are also kind people, but definitely highly overpriced.
For half of what they charge I get my eyebrows and other stuff done elsewhere.

Lush is overly trendy, hipper-than-thou with attitude and less-than-fulfilling service.
Other than Cisco (who is a gem, I think he rocks), I wouldn't go here.
Oh, yeah that's right. I don't anymore.
It's just NOT worth it.

My coworker had cute long layers and bangs and so I started going to her stylist Tami. She is super sweet and she does the best bobs. Adrienne cuts my friend's hair who has long blonde layers and she loves her cuts too. Christie is a total sweet heart and has styled my hair for several photo shoots - she is also a make up genius. Katie the receptionist is super nice.

If you want a good cut and are trying a new stylist always bring a picture (it really is worth 1,000 words). They are not mind readers.

HORRIBLE!!!I have waist length hair which had been platinum blonde for years with no problems, until going to lush. I called ahead to get a price estimate on a root touch up and a trim and the woman on the phone said about $100...I told her I had long thick hair but I guess she did not believe me because after just my roots the price was already $110! And it was done horribly too! When I went home and started really looking at my hair, I felt these disgusting scabs all over my scalp. And it was orange striped with blonde, almost tiger-like...I have died it myself with powder bleach from sally's without ever having these problems. I don't know if the stylist who did my hair was just not very experienced with bleaching long thick hair like mine or what, but I have been scared to try going back to blonde since then and am now brunette. I really miss my gorgeous blonde hair but am scared to go back now...The salon's interior, service, and staff were all wonderful, but my experience was terrible! Girls with long thick blonde hair beware! This is not the salon for you!

This is your typical upscale salon.

But besides that, I go to Rachel.  She is wonderful.  She just knows hair.  And she's a great colorist.  I was recommended to her by a friend who also absolutely loves her.  I do end up spending a lot because my hair is so called "high-maintenance," but it's not by choice.  So my cut and color was about $175.

I also saw Sara for a waxing.  She is also wonderful.   It was my first brazilian waxing (ouch).  But she talked me through it and didn't make me feel embarrassed (it was my first time..did I mention that).  Great experiences with both ladies!

Is Erica B., Linda J., Patti K., or Lindsay A. your real name?  Or none of those?  And those are some pretty crappy fake reviews.  You must be a serious airhead to think people will think "those things are real" - and that probably doesn't apply to just your fake reviews (*nudge nudge*).  Nice way to skew the scores up - ding dong(s).

Here's my review of all the fake Lush reviews:

- No picture.  Not even a fake one. -1 star
- No friends.  Prolly another good sign of sloppy fakery. -1 star
- Never reviewed anything else before?  Nothing?  -1 star
- Same writing style (ala 8th grade) in each review. -1 star
- All from Roseville (Roseville Hair Posse?) -4 stars
- You are a big fat cheater and you know it! -Infinity+1 stars

I am generous and didn't give you a negative score.  I have nothing good or bad to say about this place, because I know nothing about it.  But it's customers (supposedly) sound like Grade-A Poop Faces!

I'll tell you when I stopped going to LUSH.

When they had an artist come in and hang art for one of their showings, and they had him do it during the middle of the day.

What's wrong with this, you ask?  Simple. Lush bills itself as a Day Spa and Salon, and the spa treatment rooms are immediately behind the front desk.  They share the common wall, in fact.

I was getting a facial from Morgan the esthetician, when we heard ::bang::    ::bang::    ::bang::     ::bang::   ::bang:: .  She went out to investigate and saw that  an artist was hanging his over-sized work on the common wall.  She said and did nothing other than explain to me what it was.

After my $80 per hour service was over,  I mentioned to management that you can't have spa treatment rooms for massage and facials, where the lights are dimmed and new agey crap playing on CD players, and expect any degree of tranquility to result, when you simultaneously let  Johnny Artist over there, hang his tattoo art with a hammer and nails.

Manager Woman just kinda shrugged and said "sorry."

I sat down and waited for my next-up hair appointment, and watched him change out the art over the receptionist desk because she/management thought it was "too extreme as the first piece you see when you walk in the door" (a dagger stabbing a heart).  And then ...

::bang::   ::bang::   ::bang::   ::bang::   with a new piece.

A woman came out and said "I'm trying to give a massage in here."

The manager said "We'll be done soon."

Message received loud and clear.   You couldn't work on any other wall while you had TWO guests getting $80-100 per hour treatments in the room behind that wall?  Got it.  Your patrons don't matter.  Your art commission apparently does.

Rebbecca is my stylist for LIFE man.  She saved my horrible haircut of '07 (ok I admit it-I strayed one time from Lush and got a catastrophic cut at a 20 dollar hack salon) and made it into something I actually liked.  I've been seeing Rebbecca for a couple of years now, and I love that she listens to my sometimes conservative, other times risky hair decisions without missing a beat.  She has given me a lot of great hair style advice that has improved my overall look over time as well.

The prices are high at lush, but you get what you pay for in life, and if you want a stellar style give Lush a try.  It really doesn't get any better.  Where else do you get free wine and beer and instant beauty.

I'm flabbergasted by the reviews below.   I love Lush Salon and everyone that works there.  Christie is my stylist and I will never go to anyone else.  She listens to everything I ask of her.  She provides me with feedback  but doesn't push if I'm not into something.  I've never had the feeling that anyone is looking down their nose at me. While the prices are a little stiff, unless you are heading out to Mastercuts, you can't really expect to pay $15 for a haircut these days, at least not for a good one.  The vibe is very cool and very friendly.  As far as the receptionists, Crystal and Corey have been nothing but professional with me and all other clients I've seen them come in contact with.  They always offer wine or beer and to let Christie know I've arrived.  I've left messages for Christie and they never fail to get them to her.

I will say one thing negative and it's about Cisco.  While he did an excellent job on my eyebrows, I have to say I've had  better experiences elsewhere.  While giving me a facial he said I should wax my chin (don't laugh, I'm hairy)  I asked him if that was a good idea because he was giving me a facial and he assured me everything would be ok.  24 hours later my chin was horribly broken out and I was in pain.  I think Cisco should have known better.  He is an independent contractor and doesn't change my opinion of Lush at all.

OUCH!!
Although the waxer is very friendly, It's been almost 12 hours and I'm still burning from the wax.  It's possible that she actually ripped off some of my skin.  I've been waxed on numerous occasions and I've never experienced the after pain like I did with this one.

If LUSH didn't carry Bumble&Bumble, it would only have one star.

I completely agree with previous reviews that the stafff is uber-pretentious and seems completely annoyed with anyone who stops by.

That being said, they're the only shop that sells my favorite products without requiring me to get service.

I wanted to find someone reliable in Sacramento for waxing and I heard good things about Cisco, who works at Lush.

I arrived late. I had a horrific time trying to find parking.  I didn't have change for street parking and the big parking lot next to Lush has a sign that states "no salon parking". To the art gallery owner who doesn't want to share the parking lot: sorry, I parked.

When I walked into Lush, the scent of hair products was initially overwhelming.  I generally dislike salons for this specific reason. But this salon's air was especially repugnant.  At the front desk, a girl with some interesting tattoos threw me through a door into the "spa" area.  (Okay, so she didn't throw me, but she did show me the area in an impatient manner.)

While waiting, I was able to hear all the noises from the salon and the girls at the front desk.  Also in one of the treatment rooms, at least two employees were discussing Lush's payroll.

So I wasn't exactly in a relaxed mood when Cisco found me.  But he immediately put me at ease.  He has a soft but confident voice.  I liked that he used hard wax.  He worked fast.  There was relatively little pain.  Then he plucked a few strays.  He handed me a mirror and I was literally amazed.  I had asked him to take away all the stray hairs, to retain the shape and not to make them too thin but define the arch a bit more, and to keep them even.  He did exactly that.

I walked back to reality, which unfortunately was the front desk. While I was paying the bill, the receptionist made a snide comment to me.

Cisco is an independent contractor for Lush.  He has a different schedule and fee structure than the salon's other estheticians. He charged $25 for the brow wax.  He has exceptional skills and I would give him five stars.  But because Lush is such a miserable place, I'm taking away one star -- perhaps I should take away more, but I'm so thrilled about Cisco that I can't do it.

Update: Cisco moved to AJF Salon at 3016 J St.

I love when I go to write a review on a place and find myself in agreement with 90% of the posters.  Rock ON.

I went to Lush for about 2 years before heading over to Spanish Fly, instead.  The only reason I stayed for 2 years was because my stylist, Briana, who has since left b/c it sounds like she wasn't happy there (who is?) was awesome.  But the receptionists make me want to scream.  Rude, not helpful and snobby.  Why the hell are you snobby when I'M coming to drop $200 on highlights?  I like salons where I get the full, "Oh, you're a client, thanks so much for giving us business!" treatment.  Lush doesn't provide that.

Maggie Hansen is so wonderful! I have super thick, use to be really long, deep red hair that no one has never really "got". But from the first cut, she has been a dream stylist. AND she is the *only* stylist I have ever been to since jr. high that has not once mentioned highlights or perming or any other "up-sell" service. One of the tests I always gave a stylist on the second appointment is to ask them for suggestions, which in the past only left a long pause and an awkward "what were you thinking of doing?" instead of an honest opinion. Maggie ran with it and I ended up with the best style yet. I've never had the problem with a cut not working with my waves or other issues that i run into the next day or two after the expensive hairsprays and gels have worn off. Sigh... i can never say too much of how great she is. I will never leave her. She's really nice, too!

I originally called to schedule an appointment with Wes, but he left! So, I decided to try Amanda and she gave me this awesome hair cut. I hadn't had my hair cut in a year and it was this dull, shapeless, hot mess which she turned into fabulousness. The bangs are so awesome and versatile and I made one mention of making them thicker and she transformed them into the coolest bangs I've ever had. My bangs are so now!!! I'll definitely be back for color and another cut!!

HOW COME ALL OF THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS ARE BY PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO HISTORY OF REVIEWING, OR HAVE ANY FRIENDS, OR PICTURES? Seriously, Lush, I love you but stop writing fake reviews to up your rating; its cheap and desperate.
The only reason that I give this salon 4, instead of 5, stars is because the owner is a total bitch. I have never dealt with her personally, but I have seen her chew out a receptionist right in front of me, which is SO unprofessional, and humiliating for that poor receptionist! And anytime that I see her in conversation with anyone, she is always snide and sarcastic. Not to mention that I have been going there for YEARS and have gotten close with my many stylists, and esthies, and they pretty much concur with my observations.
But all of that aside, the bitch knows how to run a salon - so I guess she can pretty much act however she wants. I now go to Wes, and I did not know he had such a following, but that man knows his way around a head of hair. He always tell me what he thinks should be done with my hair, and is very active in his input! I recently had to cut my very long hair to a much shorter length out of necessity, and he truly made the process as painless as possible. And I actually LOVE my shorter hair. He somehow managed to make it shorter, but still very much stylable, and able to be pulled back into a ponytail.
He is a hair genius!! And I have always been pleased with the other stylists that I have seen aside from him. I decided to stick with him because he clicks with me personality and style-wise, but they are all great.

Please let me know if Tami is as good as I hear.

When I moved to Sac five years ago, I walked into Lush and asked for the name of any stylist there who had naturally curly hair. Without thinking, the receptionist said "Rachel". And so began my relationship with Rachel at Lush. She understands my hair, is funny, funky, and easy to talk to. I get a card every Christmas with a coupn and update about her goings ons. They have water with fruit, beer, and wine. I never have figured out how to drink a glass of wine and hold still for my cut, but hey, I am not known for my coordination.

I don't know why so many reviews have been so harsh. I don't think that the staff there are snobby. In fact, I like that they aren't kissing my ass like the fake sorority-style chicks at urban boutiques, or the condescending middle-aged ladies in suburban salons. Cisco has done two amazing jobs on my brows, and I'll return to him for more work. Christine is my stylist, and she is pretty real, which I appreciate. I even like the receptionist people keep bitching about. She has always been friendly and curteous with me. The place has a great ambiance, and FREE WINE! It is in midtown so there will likely be parking issues, but I never have problems finding parking.
