Now that Luscious Maven has moved to the NoHo Commons, parking is not so much of an issue (once you figure out where to park). The area is really nice, and there seems to be plenty of people around with the gym and other dance studios . The new studio looks GREAT! It will be even better once the floor is replaced (so your knees don't get so beat up). But the studio looks great! I am also (now) a (beginner) in Level 2. It can be pretty intimidating because a lot of the girls seem to know their stuff in the Level 2 class, but Heather is great at helping you out and encouraging you. I love her classes!
Congratulations on the new studio Heather! Hope I can take more classes in the future (when my finances are better!)

Review from Angela V.
Los Angeles, CA
First things first, this is the second studio I've tried, so this rating is in comparison to my other studio. Overall, I do enjoy myself here. But there are a lot of things that I think would make it so much better.
Pros:
- Great, friendly staff. I've only taken classes with Heather and Selenia, but both are wonderful, helpful instructors.
- The studio itself is very cute and comfortable. The lights are dim and there is accent lighting and cool colors that balance out the entire mood of the studio.
Pro and Con:
- Groupon/Living Social/Life Booker deals: The deals are AMAZING. But the popularity and frequency of the deals make it almost IMPOSSIBLE to sign up for classes as they expire and people book in advance. You need to book almost a month or two in advance to get classes. On the bright side, when I had trouble booking classes, I emailed and asked for an extension because of the situation, and they gladly helped me out. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Cons:
- Location: Parking is terrible. It's basically metered street parking on a busy part of Ventura. The studio is also hidden behind a Brazilian restaurant, so it's hard to find for first-timers.
- In my opinion, Level 1 does not quite prepare you for Level 2. Like most studios, they recommend taking four Level 1 classes before advancing. Level 1 consists mostly of simple spins, walking, chair dancing, and freestyle. However, going into my first Level 2 class at Maven, we were already being taught inversions! I understand that most of the people in class may have been taking Level 2 for a while, and luckily I had already started climbing in my other studio, but I couldn't imagine my friend going from her Level 1 class straight into a Level 2 with inversions. They are very helpful for those struggling, but the lack of preparation really startled me.
- There are only 6 poles at this studio with a maximum of 10 people per class. One pole is usually for the instructor, leaving five poles to be shared between 10 students. I didn't like this so much mostly because I was used to having my own pole at my other studio and find it beneficial to continuously work on your own. However, the classes here are a tad longer, which I guess makes up for the time spent sharing.
- There never seems to be enough rubbing alcohol spray to clean off the poles...One suggestion would be to have a spray bottle and rag for each pole to ensure that poles are clean and easier to grip. -

I had problems finding the right class for me. I had previously taken about a year at S Factor, but had been out of it for a while. As the levels are different at LM, I didn't feel like I fit in to any of them. The Int/Adv was too hard, with different inversions that I hadn't learned yet, but the Beg/Int was a bit too easy, just starting to do inversions. Maybe it is different for people starting out and working their way up, but I felt lost and intimidated in several of my classes. I feel like it might have been better (in my situation) if I went to an intro class first and found out what level I would fit best in, especially since you can just sign yourself up for whatever level you want.
- It was also somewhat difficult to get into the classes I wanted, since, I'm sure, so many people signed up for the Groupon/Living Social deal.
- Personally, I don't like the mirrors, as I'm constantly looking at myself and other people, noting what I'm doing right/wrong. It took the enjoyment out of it for me.
- Street, paid parking only. Or you can risk parking at Ralph's and walking. -

I love this studio and found teachers here that I really like...they run good specials from time to time, which makes it worth my drive from the other end of the valley. I definitely feel challenged with the movements here, which I practice later at home.
I am coming from a dance background which helps me to piece together the movements and make them my own....that's important with this studio because the classes are shorter and don't give a full practice of piecing or performing. but nevertheless it is a great place to learn and grow. -

The new NoHo location is fantastic. Wide open space, 14 ft. poles, lobby and kitchen. It's a second home. I take Andrea P's Sunday classes for co-ed pole strength and conditioning and MY GOODNESS, she will kick your butt. I consider myself to be an advanced pole student and I leave her class tired and happy. :) A great class to take to work on the "little stuff" that will make your performances that much more beautiful. Perfect your straight leg inverts. Run drills. Climbing exercises and an awesome, heavy warm-up and cool down.

I'll be up front and admit this is not the first time I've molested a pole, however I was so happy to (re)find Heather of Luscious Maven!
I had done a couple of sessions at The PC in Hollywood a few years ago with her and another girl as our instructors. Heather (who falls into the Jessica Biel category in looks) fit more of the persona I go for when I immerse myself in this 'sport' (the slinky, quiet one who sneaks up on you aptly named Sasha) so I felt it was easier to relate to her. I had lost touch with the girls, but was thrilled to see she had opened her own place in Studio City.
The only downfall is a mistake I had made on my own; by taking the wrong level class. It has been a couple years since I've made contact with a tall metal object, and it showed. That pole abused me, and sadly, I let it.
For me, this is a rather expensive way of staying in shape, but it is so much fun, and worth saving up for. I will definitely be back. -

If you want to seriously get schooled on pole dancing then Heather is the instructor you want! She starts the class with an intense warm up of stretching and core exercises. I admit it is a bit long, but I think over the long run it can only benefit the student to build a long, lean, and strong body. I like Heather's instructional skills as she is a very skilled dancer herself.
The only drawback of this place is its location and parking situation. The first time I went here I was late because I circled the block three times trying to find the place. It is located behind a restaurant with very little signage. Then I realized there's no free parking so I had to find a spot on the street and pay with my credit card because I had no cash. Anyway, it made my initial experience very frustrating. But let me justify that this has nothing to do with the class itself.
I wish I can take more classes here, but difficult getting to the Valley from where I live and work. If you are in the Valley and looking for a good pole dance class then you don't need to look much further than Luscious Maven!Listed in: Adventures on the Pole!

West Hills, CA
I absolutely love Luscious Maven. I purchased a Living Social deal and started taking the intro classes. At first I was very intimidated, but once we got started, I found that the instructors and other girls in the classes were always very positive and supportive. And I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think I feel more confident and do a lot better when I let my hair down and wear something "sexy" to class instead of my usual gym ponytail, tank and yoga pants. Four intro classes deep and I still have not tried the classes with shoes yet. I'm sure with shoes, I'd do so much better.
Here's a breakdown of the instructors I've taken so far:
Heather - moves gracefully and explains each "trick" and move thoroughly. She also gives us a chance to freestyle for a few minutes in the class. Some girls seem to like the time for freestyling. Personally, I found myself too self conscious to come up with anything on my own.
Selena - Her personality is so upbeat and her teaching techniques are a little fast, but I liked it. She's very positive and teaches a lot of pole tricks per class.
Elle - Elle is so calm and relaxing, but bubbly at the same time. She starts her classes with hugs. (Cute!) I love her teaching style the best because of the way she explains the "secrets" to each move (i.e. dropping your shoulder, thrusting your pelvic bone forward, etc.). Plus, after executing a new move, she cheers and makes you feel like you're doing everything perfect (even if you flubbed a little).
I really like the classes and will probably continue taking it. The only problem is: The classes for the next few weeks are all full!! There are not enough classes and I'm sure a lot of people got the Living Social deal which now makes it nearly impossible to get a class within the month. See you next year Luscious Maven. :( -

I purchased a Living Social deal and I am incredibly satisfied. I have no dance experience and felt completely at ease. The founder Heather West makes you feel good about yourself and confident. Taking these classes I have become more flexible, I have learned fun sexy floor work/moves, and a handful of pole spins. I think the bonus with this studio is the small class size, only 10 people per class, 2 people per pole, dim lights, good music and mirrors in the front of class.
I also tried the burlesque class which I thought was okay. I feel the dance routine was rushed and I couldn't remember any moves once I got home.
I also participated in one cardio hoop class and it's more of a boot camp/workout vs sexy feeling dance. We did lunges and hula hooped and learned how to toss the hoop around. I ended up with sore/bruised hands from tossing the hoops so much.
I recommend Luscious Maven to any girl who is interested in pole dancing and learning about herself and her body. I have only worked with Heather and Ellie (she is lots of fun and out going too). Both have different styles but you learn a lot and have fun with both of them. -

Sunday afternoon classes with Alikat Rose is my favorite way to start my week and encourages me to be girly. Great workout, choreography, and music selection. So much fun- If you have spare time and are in the area, I highly recommend checking this place out. Make a reservation beforehand though, as her class is usually booked well in advance.

Los Angeles, CA
I started taking classes here because it's relatively close to home and there was a great Yelp deal of 3 classes for $49.
My previous pole dance class experience was from a studio in Alhambra. This studio is way more professional and serious. There are 6 poles, with a maximum of 2 girls per pole (10 girls max per class). At the studio in Alhambra, we had 2 poles for 10 girls! The level of the other girls is really high, and it's inspiring to watch your classmates perform awesome tricks. I also like that the lights are dimmed so you don't feel weird about touching yourself and stuff.
I had 3 different instructors, and they were all good (Heather is awesome). One thing I don't like about the class is that you spend at least 20 minutes warming up (out of a 75 minute class). The Saturday class seems to always start late, which is annoying since I have to pay a meter and don't want a ticket if the class runs over. The Alhambra studio did an intense 10 minute warm-up, and then we'd get started.
This studio is located next to an auto shop and is tucked away behind an Indian restaurant. You couldn't tell there was a pole dance studio if you were just walking by. Parking is street parking, and you can pay the meters using your credit card ($1 per hour, 2 hours max).
Individual classes are $35 a class, which is a little pricey. I also don't like that you have to register ahead of time since there is a 10 student maximum. Sometimes the time slot you want is booked 2 weeks in advance, so you definitely can't just show up when you want. Because of this, I probably would not get a class package (4 classes a month or 8 classes a month) and just stick to taking individual classes as I have time.Listed in: Hobbies and Fun

I started with a 3 class special and now I'm on my second 8 class special. Everyone is so nice and supportive here. I take classes mainly from Miss Selenia and love it! Like all the instructors she is wonderful. As an older woman there are limitations to what I can do but they work with me to help me create a sexy routine within my skill set.
The workout is amazing. My arms and back are getting so defined.
Pole dancing is awesome and I really can't put into words how good I feel after a class. Everything in me is happy to be a woman and you can't put a price on that -
Review from Allison L.
TOLUCA TER, CA
I have been trying a few pole dancing classes to find the right fit. For me, this was NOT it. That being said, it could be a good match for someone else. I was really looking for a fun fitness regimen and to meet some other fun women, not something that was based on pleasing my man (although I'm sure he won't mind).
I walked in a little early and got to observe a level 2 or 3 class. The girls were amazing and seemed real. They were in t-shirts or tanks and shorts (necessary for leg grip on the pole). Only one of the girls was in stripper shoes, and they were all doing amazing things on the pole. So far, so good.
Heather, the instructor for the intro class, walks in in yoga pants, a top and bare feet. Another good sign--especially for an intro class. Then the girls for the INTRO class walk in. At Luscious Maven, it's suggested that you take at least four intro classes before moving on to the beginning class; so, I can safely assume that none of these girls has attended more than four classes. One girl has massive eyeliner on, three are in stripper shorts and three ask midway through the class (after the yoga stretches) if they can put on their stripper shoes. You're in an INTRO class, who are you trying to kid???? Even the instructor seemed surprised!!!
Now, on to the class. Heather was nice and a good instructor, but that connection to her students seemed to be missing. She started with yoga stretches and moved on to floor work (so suddenly you're doing the moves before you can think about it--a good thing) and then to pole work. She really explained the moves well and started with basics.
All-in-all, I did enjoy the class but will not return because these are the girls with whom I would be in class. It's not bad. I just didn't connect with the instructor or other girls (like I did at another studio), and it's just not quite what I'm looking for.
Classes like this do require the right fit; so, if this is something you are interested in doing, I suggest you try a few studios and make Luscious Maven one of them. -
Review from Katie L.
Bought 3 classes on a daily deal coupon and really enjoyed myself. Anita (Annie) was the sub teacher for Heather all 3 times so I never got to experience Heather's technique but Annie was a great teacher. I have taken pole dance classes before and this one focuses a lot of proper pose and technique. I liked that. I wish we had more time on the pole but as a beginner's class it makes sense that you have to build some muscle and understanding. I would love to keep going but I cannot afford it. I would rather spend my money at a gym where I get a really intense workout. BUT if I ever make enough money to not worry about it I will definitely make pole dancing a regular exercise staple.
They should mix up their music though. Annie had the same soundtrack all 3 classes and it made it a little boring at times. -

Alikat is a wonderful teacher. She teaches you how to be bring up your own sexiness, how to express yourself in your own way. Its all about your individuality. I love it!!!! We did a very sexy warm up, stretching, walking and learned a very fun choreography. WOW!!!! Its so worth it to go there!!!!

I took classes with Heather WAY back in the day (before Luscious Maven even existed).
I love her feminine charm and how calm and cool she is with her teaching. It's like a yoga and pole class in one! She envokes such an amazing environment that you can't help but feel relaxed and sexy. -

Loving it!
This is my favorite "excersizey" thing ever. It's a lot of fun, and you really get an insane workout on your upper body and core.
I've always gotten really bored with workout stuff pretty quickly, and the gym bores the hell out of me. At Luscious Maven, you learn something new every week so there is no way to get burned out on your routine. It's a ton of fun, and best of all you get a rockin workout.
A lot of pole dancing studios are more centered on "sensual" things, and you end up stroking your ladybits for the entire class. I don't know about you all, but I don't need to pay money to rub one out. Here, you spend the class flingin yourself around the pole, workin your money maker. -

I envision a pole in the middle of my living room one day soon with dim lighting and sexy music surrounded me at all angles. But since that's not happening any time soon, I spend my evenings at Luscious Maven. Though not a car friendly location (nothing hardly is on Ventura Blvd) I love that the studio is tucked away behind Bollywood Cafe which gives it that intimate vibe. Once inside, expect no windows, high ceilings, 6 tall poles, and dimmed stage/gallery lighting and a walled mirror. Heather is the main instructor and not only is she gorgeous but an extremely talented dancer/performer. She brings grace to the art of pole dancing so your time is not only spent on learning mechanics of the tricks but the beauty and sultriness of this performing art. It's Sexy time! I also adore the other instructors like Selenia and Elle who each have their own style of teaching and dancing. So 1 hour and 15 min gets you a yoga-style warm up and a pole to share with 9 other girls. Though you don't always have the pole to yourself, you'll definitely want to recover and take a breather for a couple minutes till your back on it again. I have seen much improvement in the fitness level of my body, losing inches, pounds and gaining strength and muscle tone than any boring gym I have attended in my life. Yes, I know the pole originated in the adult entertainment world of strip clubs but I hope the taboo of pole dancing will finally be banished from the true nature of this art as you will be exploring and pushing your body to new heights (literally) and not learning how to catch dollar bills with your booty cheeks

I adore this studio. The class is kept small at 10 max per class so the instructor can closely monitor your progress . The studio is small and intimate. A big plus b/c you can actually see the instructions, not 20 ft away. This way, you learn the little but important things like foot placement, head tilt, etc. This is essential for me as I am more of a visual learner.
I haven't tried the other instructors, so I can't comment on them. Heather is wonderful and encouraging. She gives you different variations so that you can still do tricks but at a level you're comfortable with. Great for your upper body and core. It's rare to actually look forward to working out. I don't even mind the drive, now that's a feat!
EDIT: So I had classes with other instructors and am happy to say I loved all of them. A breakdown:
Heather - Still enjoy her classes! She dances with such elegance! The initial stretch is mainly yoga. It intensifies depending on your level. I have a love/hate relationship with her (sometimes too long) lunges... oh, the burn! Her classes are more slow paced b/c she really breaks down the moves. We usually end with a freestyle session.
Elle - She's just a bundle of sunshine! And very strong = inspiring. Warm up is some belly dancing-esque moves. Her sessions are based on choreography that uses a couple more tricks compared to others. I'd recommend her for those who already know the foundations as it's more fast paced. No worries though! She always cheers you on and makes you feel at ease even when you stumble (as I have many times). Her classes start and end with hugs!
Selenia - She focuses more on tapping into your sensual side. I didn't think I had it in me! She always encourages you to wear/bring whatever that makes you feel sexy. Sometimes we'll have an exercise on doing things seductively, like unbuttoning a shirt or walking across the room. Sounds easy, but there's an art form to it. But her sessions are always high energy. It's hard not to l-o-l at least once.
Anita - I've only had her a couple of times when she was subbing. She generally only teaches Intro; unfortunate as I would love to take more with her. I really love how she takes the time to go to each student and goes over the move. Def helpful when dealing with varying skill levels.
Fiora - Had her once. Again, I enjoyed her as well. She also uses choreography that jump from one trick to the next, though granted this was a level 3 class. She is in phenomenal shape, so much that it inspires me to try even harder!
Btw, there was an instructor from a different studio that came in. Idk if that's common, but I did find it odd that she wasn't really honest about it. Either way, must be a good sign, right? -

Everybody Burlesque!!!
I'm in my THIRD session of Burlesque at Luscious Maven Studios, and without reading the rest of my review...that should say it all! I can't get enough Burlesque!! I began Burlesque as a fluke because I was looking for local pole dancing classes (which I also take and LOVE at Luscious Maven) and kind of happened upon the beginning of a new Burlesque session. That was my lucky day!! Ms. Ali Kat Rose (of the Burlesque Troop, Hells Belles - our instructor) is fabulous! She comes up with the sexiest routines!
If your looking to bring sexy back, I definitely recommend you give Burlesque at Luscious Maven a try! Oh, and it's more than learning sexy choreography...it's a great workout, and a confidence builder! They also offer fun extras, like costume making (you can make sparkly/fringy burlesque costumes)!
Before you sign up, a word of warning: Be careful because Burlesque can be ADDICTIVIE!! -

I just started. Ive taken about 5 classes so far, all with Heather. She is a great teacher, i like the ambiance of the studio as well. She also has a yoga background which i like for the warm up, and yoga and pole go so good together. She also will have suggestions for modifications, if you have injuries etc, you just have to let her know. I havent tried other teachers yet. Super fun, always challenging, great strength training!

Since many readers don't make it all the way through the review, I'll start here:
After my very first liberating, gyrating, exhilarating and exhausting intro to pole dancing class with Heather, there was a bidding war at the Coffee Bean on Whitsett as to which guy would open the door and then buy my coffee. You people know how rare that kind of chivalry is: my bespectacled self certainly isn't used to it, that's for sure. Still, I blame the absolute glow and huge confidence boost the class gave me. I'm looking at my curves in a whole new light.
I am addicted, and so sad that I discovered this place about a month before a big move to the east coast. I'm going to register at another place there, but it will be hard to compare to Heather's fantastic presence, experience, and curriculum. As a teacher, I really appreciate her way of instruction and explanation.
And yes, I'm saving up for an X-pole. Just like you should be. -

really great studio in studio city. it has a bit of a dimmer lighting than a few other pole studios out there so you won't feel as exposed. there are only a few poles but they're tall and there are a few skinny ones too, which i love since my hands are small and don't like to wrap around the thicker ones as much. the teachers are fabulous and nurturing and the focus is on tricks, TRANSITIONS (which is really important because how the hell are you going to come out of a great trick if you don't know how to beautifully transition into another one?), and theatricality (or even slightly voyeuristic poses). if you're the type who is a little more dramatic and want to learn pole but want to look good doing simple things, then this is the studio for you. even the simple tricks can look pretty with the proper transitions in and out.
parking is metered parking but sundays are free. the teachers are fab!Listed in: Pole Dancing, Groupon vs. Living Social

I love Luscious Maven! It is the most fun you could possibly have while exercising. Pole dancing has given me so much confidence, both in and outside of class. I was nervous at first but Heather made me feel so comfortable. She has an amazing way of breaking down the moves and explaining them so they are easy to follow. Everyone in the class learns at a different pace but because Heather keeps the classes small she can give a little extra help to anyone who needs it. It is a nonjudgmental atmosphere where everyone is eager to learn and no one is afraid to be themselves. And it is so much fun!
I've always been one of those people who can't find any motivation to exercise. I start a workout regime and 3 weeks later I've given up. After I talked to some people who had tried pole dancing I decided it might be the one thing to keep me motivated. I shopped around for some affordable classes and Luscious Maven offered the best rates in town by far. It was the best decision I ever made! I quickly became addicted... I now go to class up to 5 times a week (I got the unlimited package)! I've gotten more exercise in the 5 months I've been pole dancing than in my entire 28 years of life. And I never want to stop. I've gotten so much stronger and I can see a big difference in the shape of my body. -

I have fallen in love with the art of pole dancing since I began taking classes with Heather last year. She is a wonderful teacher and has the perfect balance of encouraging her students to try new things and embracing each person's individual skill level. She is a beautiful dancer that inspires all. She has classes for all levels and really works with what we want to learn. She incorporates yoga as well as feeling the different movements and developing a confidence in your body, rather than just teaching skill after skill. The studio is great, clean, and sets the mood for a fun and comfortable class. Heather also introduces us to fun events and allows us the opportunity to perform routines in class and in venues if we would like!
Pole dancing has reawakened the dancer in me and has given me an outlet. I am so thankful for my experiences at Luscious Maven and hope to continue to learn more skills as well as just have a place to express myself. -

I first tried Luscious Maven after purchasing the Living Social Deal and after my first class I was hooked. I've bought many more packages since then (and plan to buy more when they run out!). All the teachers are really helpful and make it really easy to pick up the different moves! The classes are pretty small and so you really get that interaction with the teachers and they make sure you're doing everything correctly. The students that I've been in classes with are also really sweet and all in all the atmosphere of Luscious Maven is a perfect place for a new comer like me to start!!

My friend and I tried out a few intro classes at different pole studios around LA. We got a great vibe from this studio and signed up for the unlimited 2 months package.
Great deal considering we go 3-4 times a week. Small classes. Great teachers. Wonderful combo of awakening the sensual dancer in yourself to core strength building, stretching, and learning pole tricks/spins.
I never liked working out in a gym. Always found it too boring, but pole dancing is the perfect workout for me and a wonderful confidence builder.
I highly recommend pole dancing and specifically Luscious Maven. -

Heather is an amazing dancer and a Fantastic teacher. I took 2 series classes and couldn't believe the changes in my body and confidence. I'm rather uncoordinated and I had never taken any kind of dance class (or danced at all really) so I was pretty nervous to even sign up for her class but with Heathers massive amount of talent and patience I never felt out of place or behind. Her classes feel comfortable, laid back and fun as well as structured and focused.. a perfect balance! All the girls that attended were also very friendly and supportive making the entire experience a pleasure. Heathers pole classes are the only work out I've ever done where I don't get bored and I'm actually inspired to practice at home. I highly recommend Luscious Maven!

Heather is awesome! I booked a lesson for my friend's bachelorette party and now I am hooked! Heather is professional, an amazing teacher, and sexy to boot! She makes everyone feel comfortable and sets the ambience for a sexy, fun, and out of the ordinary girls night. The great thing about booking a party with Heather, is that you can make the moves as simple or advanced as you need them to be so that all levels can enjoy. Love it, love it, love it!

Heather is absolutely mesmerizing and captivating to watch. She flows so effortlessly, combining intricate pole moves with seductive floor work.
Not only is she such a great dancer, but she is also an awesome teacher as well. Despite her awe-inducing talent, she is such a sweet & down to earth person. She is very encouraging and patient and is always open to answering any questions and going over any moves. She also injects a sense of humor & lightheartedness into the class, making it a more open & relaxed learning atmosphere.
I've taken both the series classes & private lessons with her. The series classes allow for a more regular and consistent progression, while the private lessons are more tailored to your individual needs and the areas you would like to work on.
I recommend her classes, both private and group ones, to anyone who loves to dance, explore what their bodies can do or just have a fun time. You will walk away, or better yet, strut away feeling sexy, fit, & empowered. -

I started taking classes with Heather and her wonderful staff of pole instructors in November, and I was instantly addicted. The atmosphere of the classes is welcoming, nonthreatening, and ultra-supportive. Whether you are new to this dance form/sport/fun activity or if you've had a few dance lessons and you want to broaden your experience, Luscious Maven is the place you're looking for. Heather and the other instructors work closely and specifically with each student to make sure they have the most challenging - yet appropriate and safe - learning experience possible. The classes are 90 minutes long and start with an extensive warm up (which is KEY!) and then you go into spins, climbing and tricks - depending on your level.... and there is a level for every ability, so don't be scared, just try it!! The only thing I would change about my class experience is to attend more of them, time and $ permitting :) But there are classes scheduled throughout the week, so you're sure to find an opportunity to check it out. And the price of the classes is good, considering what you are getting. Heather also occasionally offers specials/discounts on packages of classes or monthly passes, which are great if you can attend frequently. I love, love, love my time at Luscious Maven, and I highly recommend it.
