One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
My family eats out a lot and over the years we've had some incredible meals. Tonight we had our best meal ever. Period. Luna is a gem. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. All of the following items were amazing:
Meat Lasagna
Penne pasta with mushrooms
Pasta Arriabiata (sp?)
Creamy Corn Soup
Spumoni and Chocolate desserts
You also need to ask for the special dipping sauce with your bread. It's to die for.
This restaurant is a no brainer. I wish that I could give it 10 stars!
Concord? REALLY?!?! So far.
Yeah, I made the drive, FINALLY! I heard about Luna about 3 years ago and actually found their review on yelp shortly after. I figured it my birthday was the perfect chance to go give it a try. Was it worth the wait?
Yes it was! I wish Yelp did half stars because Luna really deserves 4.5.
Our server was good! Their wine menu is under construction so she helped us find a really good Pinot. She also tipped me off to the fact that a Buffalo Wild Wings just opened in Dublin!! HOLLA
The food, oh the food. We started with Carciofi Brie Bruschette. Artichoke, Caramelized Onions and Brie! The bread was toasted perfectly and the flavors all worked so well together! For my entree I went with the Gnocchi they had for a special. I tried not to order order Gnocchi but I am such a sucker for it. It was served with a spicy, creamy tomato sauce, bacon (kinda like prosciutto but not exactly), sausage and mushrooms. I was in heaven. My friend ordered Cannelloni. WOW. It came with and Alfredo and a red sauce and was stuffed with goodness!
Everything was DELISH! I would go back in a heart beat. Too bad its quite a drive to get out there.
The reason for the .5 star deduction is because of their wine list. I would have liked a little better selection.
Great restaurant to wine and dine a lady or a group.
PROs:
+ Delicious, fresh food.
+ Great service.
+ Lovely atmosphere set in a romantic manner expected of an Italian restaurant.
+ It's close to Q-zar.
CONs:
- Music was a bit loud... and cheesey. Didn't take too much away from the atmosphere, but we all laughed about it once or twice.
Pleasantly surprised to find this place in Concord.
I ordered an eggplant dish (sorry - forgot the exact name) and it was HUGE! It was delish... and because I had given up meat... I didn't really have too many options.
We also ordered the bruschetta - they have MANY bruschetta options... we ordered their most regular option (again, forgot the name) and I thought it was delicious!
The spumoni was okay... but I've never been a huge fan.
The place is small... reservations are welcome. Parking was convenient.. even with the movie at the park going on across the street.
Had lunch with two girlfriends yesterday. Amazing food...amazing service! I had the Primevara Pasta with parmesean sauce. I thought I died and went to heaven. The presentation is A++++ and there were all kinds of wonderful vegetables and flavors throughout. For dessert, we spilt the chocolate cake with ice-cream. If it wouldn't have been poor manners, I swear I would have licked both plates clean. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Loved it!!!
The food deserves 4 stars, but the service is the reason for the 3 stars. It took our waiter Alfredo a good 15 minutes to acknowledge us when we first arrived. He must of walked past us 8 to 10 times before he actually acknowledged us.
We went last night to Luna at around 6pm. The place was almost empty. There was one table of 5. It took a long time to get a menu and longer to order and even longer to get our food. The fish was over cooked. The pork chop was over cooked and tough (they didn't give me a steak knife). The green beans were very over cooked. Then after they cleared our plate it took a long while to get our check. Very poor food and service for a night that was not busy. Not impressed.
I used to eat here quite a bit. Seemed like a nice little find in Concord. This place has really gone down hill this year. Sloppy service. Very small selection of wines by the glass (selection keeps getting smaller), and all are undrinkable. Food is ok-sorta generic Italian. They didn't even bring me what I ordered-but at that point-whatever, I ate it. Icky muzak. I'm breaking up with you, Luna. Don't call me.
Well, I came here today with my coworkers for my farewell lunch. I decided to come here based on all the Yelp reviews and I am not disappointed at all. This was a great place; pretty small and packed, but it's got a nice little personality of it's own. The bottles of wine around the entrance, big and small, were cool to look at as well as the pictures on the wall.
I got the Ravioli con Spinaci E Ricota with a Parmesan Sauce. It was very good. The sauce was great and I loved the sun dried tomatoes. The pine nuts were also great because that little crunch made it so good. Everyone said their meal was very tasty and delicious.
Oh, the service was at times great, but other times not so great depending on who you got. We were helped by a lady in the beginning and she was very nice, but then a man came along and his service wasn't very good. He looked so busy and kind of all over the place that it took him a long time to get my coworker her to-go box while another coworker got his to-go box in a flash by the lady.
So I'm happy that everyone enjoyed their meals because it would have been a pooper if I choose a bad restaurant to eat... Give this restaurant a try if you're craving Italian food.
If I had to choose a song a to go along with my experience of Luna, it would be that song Bottle of Red, Bottle of White by Billy Joel. You know why? Because it was burning up the space between my ears like TMZ after a celebrity over-dose, that's why! I actually didn't have any wine. I probably should have, but it didn't matter because this place was so good.
Let's start with the bread dipping thing. They brought this fantastic gorgonzola/olive oil/balsamic/almonds bread dipping thing that was just fantastic. It was smooth and had huge flavor. The bread wasn't bad either. It was slightly warm when it came out, so it wasn't a big deal to handle it. I've been to places where the bread burns your fingers, so this was nice.
The waiters were really good folks (including the really cute one in the other section of the restaurant) and they took good care of our group of 9. I often judge a place by the way they take care of a large group, and here they did it so very well.
The Lobster Ravioli was the special and I really enjoyed it. The ravioli was tender and delicious and the sauce was just perfect. I had a couple of my friend's potatoes and ran them through the sauce and it was amazing. The pieces of lobster in the sauce were beautiful, the shrimp and the salmon they used in the sauce were also very good and the entire thing was a perfect combination.
The prices aren't bad either. It's 16 bucks for a solid entree, another 6 for dessert.
Oh and did I mention Dessert? I had the panna cotta, which was fantastic. I tend to like mine with little in the way of saucing, and there I think they over-did it a little, but the panna cotta itself was the tastiest I've ever had. It was amazing. The Luna dessert was also great and it made me smile.
All in all, it's the kind of place I enjoy visiting and I'll be back again...possible after I've played some Q-Zar.
First off this place isn't really Italian like they say. It is more of an Mediterranean mix. So don't go there expecting strict Italian food. But what they do make is very good. Seems like a lot of their food they put way too much sauce and too many ingredients in them instead of keeping it fresh and simple. They tend to underseason everything. But overall they make some good food. The wine selection is wonderful. One thing I love, is that I can come here looking for a nice dressed up classy kind of night without the expensive bill at the end.
It's more of a 3.5. The food was amazing, though my boyfriend and I both wished the portions were larger, and maybe less pricey. If I'm going to pay that much, I think I should get a little more. My main reason for knocking off a couple stars was the service. Not terrible, but far less than stellar. Just because we're a couple of 20-somethings instead of the older crowd doesn't mean they should be less attentive with us. Which they very obviously were.
Their service was outstanding, presentation beautiful, the menu creative, the pasta perfect, and above of all, their sauces were heavenly! My husband is not at all adventurous about new restaurants, but he thanked me after dinner for finding Luna Ristorante!
They are also very reasonably priced for their quality, see bottom for detail.
As an added bonus, the atmosphere was suitable from a date to a large party, and beautiful, too. Very comfortable but elegant.
The restaurant was also very well situated--across the street from a car park, a cinema, a city park, an used book store, et cetera.
Pricing based on our dinner visit on 04/18/2009:
for $50 for 2 including sales tax, my husband and I shared a bruschette (funghi e gorgonzola, decorated with VERY tasty reduced balsamic vinegar sauce!), a soft drink, a dinner & dessert each. Much better than Olive Garden, LOL.
I cannot say enough fantastic things about this place. It's one of my favorite places to eat (along with Bella) and everything is really yummy. One of the highlights for myself and my husband is always the bruschetta - they're all amazing! The people at Luna are always really nice and always willing to make changes to the menu which is fantastic because I'm such a picky eater.
Try it out :) you won't be disappointed!
I looove this place! Its for sure one of my top five restaurants in the area.
Luna has some kind of magic that they put in all their sauces which make their food amazing. I've been here for both lunch (great prices!) and dinner (good to make a reservation) and I've never been disappointed.
The smoked salmon bruschetta is amazing! Its perfectly crunchy and delicious. Their salads are great, too. And thats all before I mention that the sauces on the pastas are heavenly. The fillet mignon we ate on Valentine's day was buttery and delicious.
The parking lot across the streed is very reliable if street parking isnt available.
A very nice place to have dinner. My family took me here for a birthday dinner, and it was quite enjoyable.
The food is delicious. Probably not the best Italian food you will ever find, but definitely worth trying. The seating is a bit cramped, but they do a great job of making it feel cozy. And the service was wonderful. They were kind and attentive.
I would definitely go back, if in the area.
Luna is great simply because there just isn't anywhere in Concord that you can have a romantic meal at aside from here. It's quiet, small and tucked away. The food is better than average but the Carpaccio is a bit over done with toppings. The service is friendly and curtious though they did make a number of mistakes when I was with a large party. Overall a nice little surprise in downtown Concord.
Beware if you have food alergies. A couple of weeks ago, my fiance and I went to Luna. My fiance and I moved to Concord about a year ago, and we are always looking for new places to eat. My fiance and I found Luna through Yelp, in which the reviews were good, so we decided to try it. I ordered the crab salad, which listed the ingredients on the menu. When the salad arrived to our table it looked delicious. Once I started eating it, I started having a strange feeling in my mouth which was all to familar. I asked the waitress if there were any nuts in the salad. The waitress told me she would ask the Chef. Moments later the waitress returned to our table, and advised me crushed carmalized walnuts were spread over the top of the salad. I responded by telling the waitress that I was very allergic to walnuts. The waitress advised me that it was my responsibility to ask if a item on the menu contained walnuts, since I was the one who was allergic to walnuts. You all get the picture. I didn't finish my meal, we went home, and I broke out in hives. The service really sucked, and the menu should be updated. For some of us with food allergies this can be fatal.
This place is okay.
The best part of the menu is typically the specials. The salads are great if you add chicken. But warning if you have a bad waiter they will always mess the adding chicken part up.
It okay!
Luna definitely has more class than its plain exterior suggests. Despite not having reservations,we were seated right away. The bruschette was excellent and my fettucini al pomodoro was well prepared, tasty, and filling. Topped off with a side salad and warm, oven-fresh bread, it was a meal well worth its money. The friendly service, elegant decor, and lush jazz music made for a pleasant evening. We were too stuffed for dessert, though there were many tempting selections. This little hole-in-the-wall is perfect for a romantic date followed by a stroll in the park at nearby Todos Santos Plaza. I'll definitely be coming back here again.
Yay! I AM a fan.
In the beginning of the night, they weren't very attentive but our table wasn't all there yet and they had a huge party next to us. We had to ask for water & menus! I don't know whether the manager noticed this or what but he gave us free dessert wine & a couple of us free dessert to try. The food was SO good and I'm usually not even a fan of Italian. But this place was impressive, I just subtracted one point b/c it's not exactly within a college girl price range.
I went here with my boyfriend one evening, and found it much more attractive inside than I had expected. The service wasn't the best I have experienced, and the food was fine but not overly memorable. I'd absolutely choose to come here for Italian food over a trip to the Spaghettie Factory a block away, but it wasn't OMG amazing. I'll absolutely return to try some of the foods recommended here, maybe I just got a bum dish or something, or my mood wasn't "right". It certainly is well-priced, for the abundance of food and the relative quality.
Lucky enough to been here twice and never had to pay for it. :-) Pasta Premavera (with their olive oil dressing) is fabulous. Generous portions, but It evens out fairly well with the price.
Had a business lunch here and have to say that while the place is small, the food is pretty good. I had the portabella mushroom soup and the gnocchi with panceta and peas, an odd combination, but nonetheless pretty good.
The place is small, but it wasn't too crowded at lunch when we went there. The menu has some pretty good items on there in addition to the standards found on most every Italian menu. The bread they serve in the beginning is warm, crispy on the outside and nice and doughy on the inside. Add to that some olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar and it gets taken to another level of goodness.
The prices were pretty reasonable as far as places in Concord go and for 3 of us we paid about $55 minus tax and tip. Give it a try if you happen to be in the area.. odds are you wont leave dissatisfied.
Mmmmmmm one of my favorites. They did change their original menu, which I liked better but the food is still really yummy. They're not cheap by any means, but at least the portions are big. One of their plates is essentially two meals for me, and REALLY good so I don't mind paying more for my food.
Also, do note that Luna only serves wine and beer. Their wine menu is good, at least.
This place is like a "homier" pasta pomodoro to me. It is a super small restaurant...I thought there was more seats near the bar but when I went up there, it was the kitchen.
Anyway, to the food. We got the special dipping sauce for the bread. I don't know if it was "to die for" but it was good. Their bread was pretty good in general - warm and fresh. I ordered the pomodoro bruchetta as an appetizer, which is the bruchetta with tomatoes, garlic, and melted parmesan. I thought it looked better than it tasted...not that it tasted bad but it was just really nice looking. I ordered the prawn fettucine with garlic herb sauce. I wish they offered spaghetti noodle because for some reason that is one of the only kind I like. Since they didn't, I settled for the fettucine which made it too difficult for me to finish. I was able to try my best friend's pork. It was pretty good except I couldn't fully enjoy it because I wasn't in the mood for meat.
The service was ok. The prices are totally reasonable however I probably woudn't go back only because I like spaghetti noodle and for them to not have it, I'd be better off going to Pasta Pomodoro or Spaghetti Factory.
My boyfriend and I always past this restaurant when we meet up in DT Concord. So we finally decided to give it a try..
A very quaint Italian restaurant that sits 49 people at capacity, the setting is very cozy and on the cusp of romantic. Since my boyfriend and I just spent the day wine tasting, it was the last thing from our minds; so just H2O for us.
My boyfriend had the Penne Con Pollo E Pesto and I had the Penne Arrabiata. The Con Pollo was described as creamy, but sweet because of the sun dried tomatoes and pine nuts; while my Arrabitata was practically perfect and had an actual spicy kick to the flavor.
We didn't want to fill ourselves up, so we boxed up most of the food and both experienced dessert heaven with the Caramel Creme Brulee. Oh so creamy and sweet, it was the perfect dessert.
Definitely a place I would go back to for date night or double-date night.
I was a little disappointed when my dad and I went here. They are overpriced (very overpriced) and actually didn't have Spinach Ravi's! Their service wasn't very good.
They don't have a lot of Vegetarian options, and they actually ran out of everything vegetarian when we went there, so either they had 70 vegetarians in one day or they just didn't care enough to keep them stocked.
I was definitely not impressed. Would have had a better meal if we went to the Spaghetti Factory!
Really yummy, even though I was sick as a dog once the day after eating my celebratory "Yea, you finished your first half marathon" meal here with friends. (FYI, this meal was had the day after said completion, so the sickness was not connected to running, but may be due to my general sickness that feels the need to run double digit amounts at one time).
Again, yummy, but if you have food aversions, allergies, or just plain don't wanna eats, ask first. I got something that looked lovely and tomato based that was swimming in cream and had chopped walnuts galore in it, and neither were mentioned in the menu description.
Yummy bread, yummy wine, yummy food.
Yummy.
5 Stars for accommodating a group of 9 last minute on Friday night Memorial Day Weekend.
Minus 2 Stars for squeezing us in a spot so tight I couldn't get out to use the restroom and everyone could hear our conversation.
I had the crab lasagna, on the special menu. It was delicious for the first 4 bites, then got a bit heavy (the 2 sauces on the plate were outstanding). It was a large portion, but I don't think re-heating crab lasagna in the microwave will be successful.
Everyone seemed very happy with their dishes, the buschetta was decent.
I will be back to try the beet salad, I should never turn down beet salad again!
Great food, good service, cute/not stuffy atmosphere.
I had the Ziti special with broccoli, chicken, and sun-dried tomatoes. Delcious, if a little bit greasy from the olive oil.
My brother had the gnocchi in spicy tomato sauce, and my mom had the pumpkin ravioli. Both were good.
I started my meal with the carpacchio, which was good and without vinegar (which I don't like on carpacchio). My brother had the insalate misto (Italian house salad) and my mom had the Gorgonzola salad. Again, both were good.
We had a bottle of Salmon Creek (Stone Creek? I don't remember) pinot grigio that my mom picked out. It was less than good. It was kind of acidic and not refreshing. I've had much better bottles for $25 in restaurants. But, it's not totally the restaurant's fault because we picked out the wine, not them.
Also, easy street parking or free garage parking about 2 blocks away.
I am not really that in-to Italian food, but I am learning they is a difference in the menu items depending on the region of Italy. What ever this is, I'm a fan. The place is very small and cramped, but the food is wonderful. I had fish in a buttery lemon sauce...mmmmm.
So... my excellent dining partner Kristin and I were craving pasta. We've actually been on the hunt for the best Italian food in the East Bay for some time. If you know of some, please give us a shout.
Meanwhile... we went to Luna. The reviews here are solid. Honestly - and I'm sorry to say it as you fine folks rarely steer me wrong, if ever - I'm not sure why 79 of you average this place at 4 stars...
The food was just so so.
The service was - bizarre. Seriously. BIZARRE.
I will agree with Ariel, too - there seem to be a lot of vegetarian sounding entrees on the menu, but when items come, there are things in them that are NOT in the menu. Like cream. Or Anchovies. Or nuts. WARNING to those of you with picky palates, allergies or vegetarian ideals! (like me - to all three!)
Also, the wine list was subpar.
So - normally I like to eat someplace 3 times before I totally destroy it. BUT I don't really want to go back here again. So... that's that.
UPDATE:
Another fabulous dinner! I stuck to the arrabiatta(always a good vegetarian choice) because it was that good. We had a great bottle of wine, yummy cheese bruschetta to start and this time we managed to have time for dessert, and I am so glad because it was wonderful.
ORIGINAL:
I was very impressed! We came for a quick dinner pre-show and ended up missing half the opening act because we just couldn't tear ourselves away. I know we could have gotten out on time (service was totally on the ball), but we just didn't want to.
I had the best arrabiatta Ive had in the US at Luna. I did ask for it extra spicy but it was PERFECT. The only way it could have been perfecter was with home made pasta, but that's not easy to come by!
I also liked the selection of bruschetta, although the brie and carmelized onions were not quite the to-die-for dish I envisioned from reading it on the menu. However, it was still very good.
We had a special salad that was phenomenal - the perfect mix of greens, fruits, nuts and cheese.
The wine list was a nice representative of Italian wines.
I wish we had had the time for dessert - I bet they are great.
I know where we are going with my Alamo-based parents next together!
Me and the hubby decided to come here tonight for dinner after reading Kymberli and other Yelpers' positive reviews. We were looking for something special because it's my husband's "birthday week" (yes, we celebrate throughout the entire week!) and I also have been gone for quite some time for work.
This place is now my favorite Concord spot - I cannot believe this caliber of a restaurant is tucked quietly away in our little city of Concord. We immediately got a nice, cozy table for two upon visiting at around 6:30pm this evening.
We started off with the garlic, tomato, and basil bruschetta, which was the best bruschetta appetizer I've had in years. For our main course, I had linguine with giant prawns and cream sauce and my husband had the penne with Italian sausage. Both dishes were plentiful and scrumptious! We concluded the meal with my favorite dish of the night: the chocolate profiteroles. The presentation was gorgeous - raspberry, vanilla, and chocolate sauce with strawberries surrounding the profiteroles. It was delicious!
The service and prices were also superb. By far one of my favorite restaurants in the East Bay! We will be coming back soon :)
Somewhat fine dining, not too over the top. Very good service and reasonable times on waiting for food. I'd recommend to anyone who wants reasonably priced and tasty Italian.
I swear I thought I wrote this review already, right after we ate here. I durno where it went...
Anyway, I came here on Halloween night with two of Yelps hottest Concord ladies...the Marie twins. After a night of passing out candy to brats we were hungry and decided to try this place since Me had raved about it.
I can't remember what everyone else ordered but I do remember I ate the spinach salad and it was good. I also ordered their pork cutlet special of the night. The pork was delicious itself but the sauce that accompanied it was fabulous. There was definitely some Carbonara at the table that I liked and wanted to go back again for. I think someone ordered a ravioli dish but I can't exactly remember.
I guess I will just have to go back, hopefully with my two favorite lovely lady companions.
Not only was the food good but the service was excellent. Being a family run business they were near closing time when we decided we wanted to go. Halloween not being much of a dinner night I'm sure they were looking forward to going home right at closing time. Instead they stayed late and welcomed us in, then continued giving us wonderful service. The suggested items on the menu and wines to go with them. It was really nice of them and showed how committed they are to giving customers their all.
Luna delivers quite a cozy and classy dining experience. I went on a Monday night around 7:30pm, and the restaurant was almost full. The wait staff was a little slow because it was so busy, but our server was very friendly and gave us some dessert wine on the house upon learning it was our first time there.
For being a small restaurant, Luna offers an impressive selection of wines, appetizers, and entrees -- and they're all very affordable for the quality of the food and ambiance. The portion sizes are very generous, and the food tastes fresh and well-seasoned. Luna makes for a great night out with the family.
I took my family here for my birthday dinner. Yes, I treated them when it was MY birthday...my parents said that the Chinese way is for the birthday person to host as the guests would come with presents. Okay, whatever. I don't mind because I like to have everyone there with me anyway.
I got confused with another Italian restaurant that I thought was IN Todos Santos plaza so we parked on one of the streets surrounding the park and walked around. Luna is actually next to the Starbucks across from the Bank of America parking garage on a small side street.
We got there at 7pm on Saturday night. The place was packed! The bar area was very small so we stood by the door for a bit--no chairs to sit on. Then after about 20 minutes, I decided that we needed some wine to go with our wait. We opened a bottle and then about 10 minutes later, we were seated.
They explained that one of the parties didn't have all of their members present at the time of their reservation so that was part of the delay. The good thing about waiting is that you have plenty of time to look over the menu.
Lots of specials and good selection. We had a caprese salad and veggie marinara to start. Our dinners included: roasted rack of lamb, gnocchi, baked salmon, pork chop and the fish special. Everyone was very happy and the flavors were very good. We were all stuffed and a birthday cake was waiting for us at home so we skipped dessert.
I will definitely go back for dinner or even lunch before or after a movie.
You know what, I'm going to go ahead and give them five stars (rounding up from 4 1/2). This restaurant is fantastic. My only gripe is that from the street they're not much to look at. Walking up to the place feels more like walking in a parking lot (usually past a bunch of people hanging out at the Starbucks) rather than walking up to a nice restaurant. On the other hand, they are located right across the street from Todos Santos Plaza, so that balances things out a bit. The inside of the small restaurant, however, is cozy, tasteful, and inviting.
Anyway, enough about the physical environment, how about the food! It was outstanding. My wife and I were both really impressed with our meals (and it's worth noting that the scallops are to die for). This is not the place to be if you're on a diet because most of their food seems to be on the heavier side with lots of butter and/or cream, but so what! It all just tastes so damn good. Their service is excellent as well and I found their staff to be very friendly. It's really nice having a place like this on the square.
A note about the location: The address is on Willow Pass Road but the front door is actually on Mt. Diablo Street, right behind the Starbucks.
