"Really like this place. Atmosphere is fantastic. Small, good lighting, good beer, smells like bacon. I usually just drink beer but the bacon…" read more »
This place is closed!... or at least it was when we tried to go Friday night. The most recent flier posted out front was for a show May 7th. Oh well.
i don't know if these guys are coming back but screw them. we had a really good turnout and they killed us with money. but this is the same old story. whatever. nice room too. shame they closed but they really did shag us on the $$$
Saw a four band show here last night for 5 bucks (missed the 1st band). Not some local showcase show mind you, but a show with a real, signed band as the headliner, The Mooney Suzuki. The place is larger than I expected, with some seating scattered here and there.
The bar is well stocked, although taps get you a plastic cup, which is very uncool to be drinking premium beer out of plastic (I only make an exeception for tailgating which is always cool). The sound was good, and as usual got better for each successive band (which I don't understand, esp. because here they were all using the exact same back-line).
They said they had a coat check, but I didn't see one, so our coats were hung over a railing and we were fine with it.
This particular show was being filmed for some reason, and it was kind of dicky that the cameramen had these really obtrusive blinding white lights on their cameras, but I do not fault the venue for this.
I will be on the look-out for shows here, as I really like the venue which has many things around it of interest.
**Edit-show was being filmed for MTV's show Made, which would explain why the nerdy h.s. kid got on stage towards the end.
I was here last wknd to see my friend's band play.... my first time venturing out of big bad manhattan to go out! It was easy to find and not too too far from the subway (important at night for a girl:) ...
the place was cool. big wide open space. really nice staff; great bartender. and of course, great music when i was there, ....(but i'm totally biased bc it was my friend's band!!)
if you wanna see some cool live music, come sheck it out.

Went for the first time a couple of weekends ago to catch a friend's band and instead, found two new bands that rock. I didn't know what I was signing up for. A friend had been there before and she thought it was a cool spot. Anyways, this is actually a great spot for live music. Acoustics are good. The place is rather large (usually, I find myself in tiny little places like Arlene's Basement or the Delancey). It draws an interesting crowd of attractive people (I must admit that the Brooklyn male crowd is much better than the Manhattan one as far as looks and style go). People are more eccentric/artistic. I saw preppy people doing a version of the robot. I saw people wearing 80s style clothing complete with bandana tied just under the knee of their jeans. I saw band members doing the running man. The one thing in common was that people were enjoying themselves. Music was good. Drink prices were probably expensive by Brooklyn standards but when I can get two beers and a mixed drink for $16, I don't ask twice.
We took a car in and cabbed it back. Between three girls, it was barely a $10 cab ride back. So while I have no idea how to get there via subway, that won't be stopping me from going back.

Trekked down to Williamsburg to see my friend's band play. Fairly large space, plenty of room to sit down and enjoy your drink. However, the sound was way, way, way, too loud. Totally distorted the sound. Can't really tell whose fault it was, but it made it hard to really enjoy the music.

Saw Pelican and Earth here a couple weeks back. Its a nice venue, plenty of space for the amount of people. They didnt make us buy anything to sit down at one of the booths although I wouldnt be surprised if they do do that.
They have re-entry which is key. Decent spot despite the williamsburg address

Saw the Pipettes here a few weeks back, and it was a nice venue actually; the sound mixer dude kind of separates the bar area and the stage but its larger than I thought, and just very open. there was no coat check. and of course, the Levee is close by. Close enough to taste the beer.

Located between the Lorimer and Bedford stops, this little club/lounge/bar spot is home to innumerable indierock shows every week. I know it's part of the rock club scene, but paying $8 to see a couple bands while paying $5 beers.
Definately give them credit for stocking up on quality brews, but the lack of cheap PBR's is a bummer. I think it's important that bars and rock clubs stock cheap PBR's, so come on Luna, get with it! The staff were super friendly, and the music was good. Go Bella Watt!
Very open, very dark and not ton of seating area, but tolerable. I like this venue because they aren't afraid to book bands that no one has ever heard of, it's a good way to hear local artists as well as touring rock gods.
I've met some really cool people going to shows here, most of them come for the music and not the scene. I've had some unforgettable nights rockn' at Luna so maybe I'm biased....
It's affordable, it's close to public transit, and if you're into new bands with a plethora of sounds go check it out!

Basically a typical LE side bar atmosphere when you walk in, and then a band room in the back. I usually go to hear my friends play here, and the sound was always pretty good. I think they get a mix of acts here though.
Its standing room in the back, with minimal seating along the sidelines.
Its kind of a Mercury Loungish type set up, if you will.

Sadly, the Luna Lounge has closed its doors (although it is re-opening at a new space in Brooklyn). I will always think back fondly on Luna's free rock shows.

Great venue to see up and coming bands. Good acoustics and the owner knows his stuff. The place is similar in size to Southpaw with the bar in the front and the stage in the back. Very easy to get to from Manhattan (take the L, get off the first stop in Brooklyn, walk 4 blocks).
