My Ol' Lady prefers the crab roll.
I lean toward the lobster.
The chowder is really good.
THEY DELIVER TO US!
Really a treat.
I have always found the rolls to be the right size, if a bit messy and the price is right.
I'm sure fresh lobster is cheaper in Portland Me. -

Decadence!!!!
Yes, the lobster rolls, crab, shrimp and the empress claws should be eaten at a pace. I always get the taste of Maine and I am always satisfied and full!!!!!
No swallowing it down like Darryl Hannah in Splash when she went to the restaurant with Tom Hanks. No!
Take your time dang it, these are top of the line seafood and should be treated as such.
I don't mind it being mainly a take-out spot. It's kool, you order you wait and then bam you came to pick up! It's super super fresh and the quality of the seafood is what makes me a repeat customer.
*if possible, go on a weekday at a obscure time like 3pm and I guarantee you will be in and out in 5 minutes.* *_* -

I know everyone loves it here, and frankly, I went for all the great reviews. The lobster roll was definitely A LOT smaller than I expected. Like a lot of the reviewers said, the roll was about the size of a hot dog, and could be finished in about 4 bites.
However...
the lobster was delicious, and the bun buttery and toasty. It was really melt in your mouth good, but I was so sad that it disappeared so fast.
I think it's worth a few trips during the winter, but my friends and I were left hungry an hour later. I don't know if it could be used as a standard dinner.. or we're just fatties. Either way.. it's DEFINITELY worth a try! -

Have to move my review to 5 stars simply based on the the fact that I just cant stop coming here. I literally have these lobster rolls on my mind as soon as I step off the train.
$18 is not bad but I always end up with 2 $18 charges on my CC....not by mistke, by me just being a fatty and loving lobster...having to go back for more.
I just feel so happy when I am here. I hear they have a mobile cart in midtown...great consider me broke!1 Previous Review: Show all »

+more stars!!!
When I found out that this place does BUTTERY lobster roll, I was so excited.
Since it was our first time there, we decided to try everything - Taste of Maine : 1/2 Lobster roll, 1/2 Shrimp roll, 1/2 Crab roll, 2 claws, Soda + a bag of chips (for $22).
The bun was excellent and everything was so fresh! We tried Blueberry Soda and I've never tasted anything like this before. It's kinda like... a perfect blueberry FANTA but better! haha
This place has limited seatings, FYI.
I can't wait til I go back! ;D -

Wow.
Wow.
And wow.
This place is short of heavenly. It's a little hole in the wall that serves up an amazing, ridiculous lobster roll.
The bun itself was no bigger than a standard hot dog bun. But the sheer proportion of lobster in this thing is way better than any 2 lb lobster you would get at a snooty restaurant.
And If anyone thinks its not better than a roll Maine, then go spend money on a flight to Maine bozo.
If ur in NY, go to Luke's, life will look a bit better afterwards! -

After trekking all the way downtown (I live in upper Harlem) to try the lamb noodles at Xian, only to be told that they were out of lamb, I took these lemons and made lemonade by high-tailing it over to Luke's Lobster.
OMG. Well, they certainly eased my pain, with rich, creamy, delicious New England Clam Chowder (one of the best I've had!), followed by a very satisfying, buttery lobster roll. I actually had to consciously tell myself to slow down and really savor the thing .... just yummy!
Haven't tried the other locations (although I had the lobster roll before at Hester Street last summer), but if they are up to the standard of this location, treat yourself at the earliest opportunity! -

Great spot for a quick snack. The rolls were delicious. I loved the crab and lobster rolls. Wasnt a big fan of the shrimp, it was a bit salty. Theres alot of meat in each roll so that made up for the price. I also recommend their New England clam chowder.

Review from Angel N.
Lobster roll that has less than 1% of mayo, and 99% of lobster! The claw is fresh, sweet, succulent! Even the buttered toast that holds the lobster has a golden crisp on the outer edge is tasty! If you like lobster rolls, then you must try Luke's.... It's TDF!

I no longer have a reason to go to Boston for a lobster roll (+ 1 gazillion stars for Luke's).
Thanks, Luke's!! -
Review from Anne K.
Sweet mother of pearl, this is the best lobster roll I've had outside of Maine.
Huge, satisfying chunks of perfectly-cooked lobster (with very little mayo and none of that chopped celery crap) all piled high on a buttery, Texas toast-like bun. The $17 meal comes with a pickle, bag of Kettle potato chips and a soda on the side. It's pretty filling, despite it's small size. All lobster rolls tend to be on the small side though - you always get that sinking feeling of "Why are lobster rolls so freaking expensive?!" and then you eat it and life is awesome again.
I want to come back for their Taste of Maine combo (half lobster roll, half shrimp roll, half crab roll, 2 Jonah crab claws, a bag of chips, and a soda for $22)! Sweet deal, if you ask me.Listed in: "Adventure is out there!"

This place is definitely for the lobster roll purist! I was expecting a seafood roll dressed with globs of mayo and butter for that rich taste but didn't find that here. The rolls are dressed lightly to highlight the fresh seafood (abundant I must add)!
Definitely great for those who love their lobster rolls on the lighter side but didn't really do the trick for me! -

I love Luke's Lobster. Love, love, love. It always hits the spot and I always want more than one roll. My suggestion is to split the Noah's Ark with a friend so you get the crab and shrimp rolls too, because who wants to choose? The buns are perfectly toasted and buttery, and the lobster is fresh and plentiful (compared to many other places in the city). If you find yourself close by to any of the locations, do yourself a favor and stop in. You will not regret it. I never do and always wonder why it is not closer to my apartment.

I came, I saw, and I filled up on treasures from the sea.
Clean restaurant themed with fishing supplies and signs, but nothing overtly tacky.
We ordered Noah's Ark that had a sampling of 1/2 Lobster + Crab + Shrimp Rolls with crab claws, drinks, and chips.
I am a crab man. I'll take crab anytime over all its fellow crustaceans, but this place IS called Luke's Lobster for a reason. Because here, Lobster reigns king hands down. The crab and shrimp rolls were fresh with the sweetness of the ocean, and can hold their own. That is until you take a bite into their simply dressed, lobster chunks loaded, butter drizzled, toasted bun of nirvana. They made sure the star was the lobster, and it shows bite after bite.
I think most of us has a pretty good idea of what we are looking for when we come here. You can add me to the list of fans of one of the best lobster rolls I've had so far.
Next time, two lobsters rolls for yours truly, and skip out on the rest. -
Review from Mark M.
I always say that I have three favourite food groups: bloody marys, nachos and LOBSTER ROLLS. I also get to Boston +/- 20 times a year for work - and each trip try to have at least two rolls.
Luke's delivers.
- Taste of Maine is where it's at. If you're a big eater -- surely this is a win. If sharing, a win, too. It's a bit of everything on their menu including 1/2s of all their rolls: crab, shrimp and of course -- lobster
- Go at an off time so you're not waiting in a ridic line
- Take out of towners here (unless they're from New England)
- The rolls are really reasonably priced for how perfect they are.
Don't expect to get a seat. -
Review from Vinh N.
Luke must be a Lobster because he's on a roll! Get it? Get it? Hah, I crack myself up.
Lobster rolls Maine-style, served chilled atop a buttered and toasted New England-style, split-top bun with a swipe of mayo, a sprinkle of lemon butter and a dash of secret spices. Expensive but well worth the self-indulgence especially if you can't make it out to Maine but only NYC. -
Review from Ajay T.

They say the best things come in small packages. Luke's Lobsters hold true to this credo.
I had their lobster and crab roll. A hot bread bun packed packed with succulent meat from Maine. Even though it took about 10 seconds to finish both rolls, it was one of the best food experiences I have had-- the freshest lobster meat melting in your mouth topped off with some buttered bread. Every tourist who loves lobster must come here. It is simply a breathe of fresh air in a congested, overpopulated city. -
Review from Brent C.
One of my friend's told me I had to get a Noah's Ark from here. I came here alone and my jaw dropped after seeing how much it was: 41 dollars. Had I came with someone else I suppose we could have shared, but still that much for a few sandwiches seemed pretty ridiculous. But I justified it in my head because it was seafood and NYC.
I ended up having the lobster roll, which was 15 dollars. Shit. And it came out and it was tiny. I practically ate it with one hand. Okay, I understand. It's all lobster and lobster is expensive. But come on, 15 bucks for this dinky sandwich. It was definitely a good meal, I can't deny that but luckily I had another meal planned for 3 hours later. Despite it being delicious, I have a hard time justifying coming here in a regular basis. -

The lobster roll is a must! So much lobster meat and delicious. I've ordered the roll w/o mayo and threw in some sriacha. Delicious!

Review from David K.
Is it me or the pictures posted on yelp deceiving? I paid a good amount for a lobster roll that I was sharing but I swear the lobster meat was put in between a hotdog bun sized roll. A few bites and it was gone. I will save this place has FRESH lobster and not overly dressed which I liked about the sandwich but seriously... that roll was TINY!

Huge chunks of lobster, soft fluffy bread, perfect seasoning, and no BS fillers.
Lobster is my pick over the crab but still try both as they are both very delicious!!!! -

I love Luke's. I go to the East Village Location.
I always get the lobster roll (Maine style) with the chips and beverage deal. $17. It also comes with a pickle. Nom nom.
The lobster roll is great, not too much mayo, but just enough. You can still taste the freshness of the lobster and the lobster is still the star of the dish. The chunks of lobster are huge, it's not shitty shreds of lobster or anything.
A nice treat and something different. I also think it's a pretty good deal to get the drink, chips and lobster roll.
I only rated it four stars because I think Red Hook is better, but this is pretty damn close. -

This place is AWESOME!
Was in town for a few days. Ate at some really nice, high-end restaurants.. and this place easily trumped each meal I had.
Both myself and my brother just got a lobster roll / drink / chips. My god, that lobster roll is amazing. I'm still thinking about it days later.
I was essentially expecting a bunch of minced lobster meat drowned in mayo and whatnot. What I actually got was a ton of lobster with a very thin amount of spread below it. The lobster tasted amazing - so perfectly fresh and sweet tasting. It had barely any mayo on it, and it didn't need it. Blueberry soda wasn't bad, either, but I would get a rootbeer or something next time instead.
My only complaint is that the sandwich wasn't 3x the size so that I could've gorged myself further. -

I am from Maine and I love all things from Maine. The decor here is cute and showcases the best (if not stereotypical best) that Maine has to offer.
With that said, I loveeeee Luke's lobster rolls! They are the epitome of deliciousness because they don't have excessive mayonaise all over it. For 15$ a roll, it is a bit pricey but they make up for the small size by putting lots and lots of lobster in each roll. I usually get the lobster combo and add a side of clam chowder. Again, the clam chowder is a must try if you love clam chowder in general. Also, the sodas are all great, but definitely go for the lemonade, never had a better one.
Aside from their staples, I also tried the shrimp roll and the crab roll. I didn't particularly like or dislike the shrimp roll, but the crab roll was pretty good. I still will probably only order the lobster roll though because it is just superb. Extra points for grilling the bread, reminds me of amazing lobster rolls I used to eat in Brunswick. -

Food:
~Lobster roll (4.5 stars): best lobster roll I've yet to taste. Even 1 year later I am still comparing others that I've had to this one. Meat was cooked just right, so tender and still sweet with freshness. Mayo was just light enough to complement the meat. Bun was toasted and buttered. What more can you ask for? The warmth of the bread contrasted a little too much with the coldness of the lobster. At least let the lobster come to room temp? But that's just their style, and it's clearly written on their blackboard. $11-12
Best Luke's, better than the one on the UES, and definitely better than Red Hook. -
Review from Peter L.
I love Lobster, I would have given 5 stars but for the sandwich portion and price at $17 for a drink and chips, kinda steep to me but definitely worth a visit. It hits the spot right on with a blueberry soda from Maine and some Sea Salt Chips. Wish they could make the sandwich bigger, I wouldn't mind spending more money on it if the portions were bigger.

Simplicity at its best.
You got large chunks of lobster, and bun with some awesome sauce.
The bun and lobster ratio is perfect.
Can get pricey if you're hungry and greedy, but a great treat every so often. -
Review from Cindy T.

I didn't used to like lobster rolls. When I thought of a lobster roll, I thought of beautiful hunks of lobster meat gobbed with so much mayo, celery, and spices that you could no longer taste the sweet succulence of the lobster. Then, I went to Luke's.
When you take a bite of a lobster roll from Luke's, your eyes involuntarily roll up toward the heavens and you struggle to wipe the dumb grin off your face. That is, if you can even get your lips around the mountain of luscious, unadulterated lobster in the fluffy, lightly buttered, toasty warm hot dog bun. The tiniest shmear of mayo adds a richness that complements the roll, not distracts from it.
Luke - where have you been my whole life?? -
Review from Samantha G.

Luke's Lobster was participating at The Grub St Food Festival a few weekends ago. Looking at the menu, I thought their food was pricey! After skimming through the reviews on Yelp, my sister and I decided to split half of a lobster roll ($8). Yeah it sure was a small roll but I was happy to see the big chunks of lobster in that roll. What I really enjoyed about these rolls is that you actually get to taste how fresh the lobster is, unlike other lobster rolls I've had where they load up the mayo and it masks the flavor. The bread made the roll even more enjoyable due to its buttery taste and lightly toasted texture.
If you're a fan of lobster rolls, you definitely should give this place a shot.Listed in: New York City

I'm late on the lobster train.
This is probably because my family kept kosher in terms of pigs and shellfish for most of my life, and therefore I've been brainwashed to be slightly freaked out when I see a steaming red lobster waiting to be cracked open and dipped in butter.
But like a pregnant woman, all of a sudden I became unbelievably curious about lobster rolls ... so it really confused me when I would walk into Caracas with Luke's engrained in my mind. Finally, I caved and stopped by to fulfill my affair with shellfish. I must say. It was a delicious affair.
With over 750 reviews for this place, I'll keep it short and sweet. Fresh, buttery, soft, and the roll was salty and quite possibly my favorite part. The only thing I WISH this place had was some french fries! C'mon. Chips are not suffice when you have a hot dog bun of any sort on your plate. Also, coughing up $16 for a lobster roll is tough thing to do...but for a novelty item like this, I can do it once or twice.
It it looks like I have a fishy mistress now. Are there any other kind? -

Summary: Solid lobster roll. Casual.
Came here with a friend and split a lobster roll for $15. Very simply done. Great toasted bun, little bit of mayo, large chunks of lobster. Really fast service.
Exactly what I expected. Good casual joint. -

Delicious lobster roll!!!
I stopped by one night and picked up a couple of lobster rolls while my wife waited waited in the car with the kids. I picked up the combo for 17.00 each.
It was quite delicious!!! Every bite was soooo fulfilling. The toasted bread threw me off a little. I was expecting a nice soft roll. The fresh lobster and buttery goodness.....
Definitely a nice treat. -

LOVE this place. Great portions of sweet lobster. Add some of their spice to make it even better. One lobster roll doesn't really fill me up so I get a side of their clam chowder as well. :)

Yessir, It was near the end of 2011 and it just so happened I noticed I was walking around east village and was in front of the famed Luke's Lobster location. I was like cool, so not just the truck that I see around time but I am at the actual location. I got the shrimp roll again. I just couldn't do it, straight up drop $17 or 18 for the lobster. THIS ONE i got was cheaper. This was an impromptu visit, I really did not even plan to go here. I just came from eating Butter Lane Cupcakes. So yeah (as far as I can remember) the lobster apparently was out of my grasp again. My advice is go for Shrimp though it is quite a few dollars cheaper and is very impressive. I will have to come back and try the lobster roll. Even it seems at food show demos of this food, the shrimp seems to be the one that is showcased, not the actual lobster roll. The Maine Root soda was really good as well. This is way better to me than Red Hook, the other competitor shrimp roll.

Luke's, you took my Lobster Roll virginity and it could not have been a more beautiful love affair.
I'm walking with my Uncle through the village and we pass Luke's. He says, "amazing lobster rolls."
"Really? I've never had a lobster roll," I reply. Without a moments hesitation, I have been pulled into the cute sea-shack looking place and have a hot lobster roll in my hand.
The lobster is so meaty and fresh, perfect with the hot, toasted, buttery bun. Upon my first bite I had to close my eyes because I was in such tastebud heaven. I sat on my lil stool, safe from the chilly fall weather and wrapped up in a big sweater, savoring each bite.
This was by no means a one night stand. I'll be back, Luke's. Keep the lobster rolls coming. -

I actually can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before because these lobster rolls are so. damn. good!
And let's just get one thing out of the way...yes it's expensive. It's lobster, people! And a lot of it!
And now on to the roll...all you need to know is juicy, succulent lobster on a buttery, toasted bun. Unlike some other lobster rolls I've had that are mayo-based, you taste nothing but lobster on these rolls....and it's excellent. -

I have never had a Lobster Roll. I always wanted to. When a friend of mine from the New England area told me about this place and that it's the best place to get a Lobster Roll outside of the New England area I was sold.
I only ordered the roll by itself. I didn't get anything else. The service was average and it could have been a bit friendlier but who cares, I was hungry. I have to say that I enjoyed this roll so much. There was a lot of Lobster meat in the sandwich and the roll was delicious. I was hooked instantly. If I had more cash on me I would have gotten another one. But at 15 bucks a pop, I knew I could spend some serious money here.
I highly recommend this place. -

This is one tasty lobster roll.
The bun is warm, lightly toasted, and buttery. It's topped off with generous pieces of chilled lobster. The lobster is lightly seasoned with lemon butter and spices. There is a little swipe of mayo on the bun. I appreciate that Luke's does not mix loads of mayo into the lobster. They allow the star of the show to shine by not tampering with it too much.
The warm buttery bun and chilled lobster work so well together. It is simply seasoned and yet so satisfying.
Don't let the pictures fool you. These puppies are not as big as they look, and at about $16 for one lobster roll, it is leaning towards the pricier side. There is no doubt about it though, this is quality lobster on top of a lovely bun.
Luke's, you are a treat! -
Review from Danielle R.
Santa Monica, CA
So for "breakfast" the other day my sister and I left her boyfriend's apartment and started wandering around the East Village looking for a good place to eat. Our original destination was closed, so as we were trying to figure out a back up plan my sister goes, "I mean if you're in the mood for lobster I don't mind going to Luke's Lobster." I looked at her slightly puzzled and wondered if in my hungover state I had mention wanting lobster? I just replied to her that I didn't care what we ate, and that the diner on the corner would suffice. Again she said, "Dee if you feel like lobster it's fine we can go there, I don't mind." I laughed and asked her if she was in fact the one craving it, and she just grinned from ear to ear.
We decided to go to Luke's. Best. Decision. Ever.
Luke's Lobster is the home of the best lobster roll I've ever tasted. Luke's has several different locations around NYC, and I had the pleasure of going to the one in the East Village, on 93 E 7th Street. This hole-in-the-wall lobster shack does have more on their menu, but the real star is the fresh lobster which is flown in daily from Maine. Although there are just a few stools in this tiny restaurant, it won't matter because I housed this roll in a matter of minutes so eating inside would have been pointless.
Although I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it because I was too busy eating it on the way to Chris's apartment, there are tons of pictures on the Internet, and on Luke's website for you to check out.
This lobster roll is served on a lightly buttered and toasted hot dog bun, filled to the brim with fresh cool lobster, garnished with a small amount of mayo, melted lemon butter, and fresh herbs (and I swear I tasted a little balsamic vinegar on there as well). If you are in the city, pressed for time, and starving, I highly recommend that you check out this hidden gem. At $15 I can say that it's completely worth it and you will not regret it!
