3 reviews for Luke's-A Steak Place
good, good steakhouse.
they know how to cook a steak Pittsburg-style, and they know how to season the meat and the grill.
located just off I-70 and Kipling, in a strip-mall, Luke's-A-Steak might seem like a hack. no no no...
(it was birthday time, by the way) - we sat down to a sharp, happy waitress who was glad to answer any questions we had about food or wine. Luke came by and recognized us from our exploits around...bought us our Jameson's appetizer -
we began with simple sauteed mushrooms, followed by house salads with a housemade dressing (the only choice) which was delicious. then the steaks came - NY strip, Pitt's style on one side, filet, bone-in, on my side. so good. so, so good. baked potatoes, asparagus, and the rest of the mushrooms were the trusty sidekicks of this magnificent meal; they did their part with great support and skill.
the winelist satisfies various pricepoints of the usual palate options. the bar comforts a local crowd and the bartender comforts them with love. the service is casually - NO - matter-of-factually, knowing...of how good the food is and how confident the restaurant is in its intention.
I felt like I was in Kansas or Iowa. this place is real. and the overall experience is more pleasurable (and much cheaper!) than what I've had at The Palm or Capitol G.
eat here.
I've been going to Luke's off and on for well over 10 years. You can't quite believe that a steak place in a strip mall can be that good ... but it is. Not fancy, not pretentious and not an exhaustive menu. Go for the steaks but I have to say that the lobster tails are excellent as well. Also, definitely tends toward the casual - forget the tie. Service has always been tops - this place reminds me of the kind of place that your parents took you to - hmmm, thats a lot of years ago. If there is a gripe don't expect the location to parlay into a big discount on the food - almost in the range of Mortons or Sullivans. Worth a trip, especially if your in a bourgeois mood and want to avoid the Del Frisco's crowd.
A wonderful little steakhouse in the most unusual of places - a strip mall off of I70 in Wheat Ridge.
