    food was decent.

they moved my friend who was sick (not infectious) so she could have two seats to herself without being asked to on a transatlantic flight.

checkin was the best! i don't think i've seen an airline have a better check-in.

i got to practice my horrible german with the flight attendants. they didn't make fun of it either (it is that bad).

my only gripe: they are not a delta partner.

Ok, let's start with the basics:
Yes, there is a direct flight now, from PDX to Frankfurt International.  It leaves at 1:05PM, and arrives at 8:20AM, local time.  The total flight time is 10 hours, 15 mins, and there are 2 meals served ("diner" and "breakfast').

Now let's talk about the details:
    1. Any international flight that does not have individual media choices (a screen for every seat that a passenger can watch movies, tv shows, games, music, etc) should be shot.  Lufthansa should be shot.  They also use the same movies for months - via common TVs.  Flying there 1x a month?  Have an Ambien cocktail. Maybe 2.

    2. There is no "economy plus," meaning you are either first, business, or economy (and for most of us that means economy).  The spacing between the seats is minimal.  The only thing you have going for you is that PDX is not a popular route, so you may have a vacant seat to one side of you.

    3. There are on outlets to plug a laptop into.  better bring 2 spare batteries.

    3. You cannot use your star alliance miles to upgrade your seat (*thanks United)

    4. They NEVER automatically upgrade you (like good airlines do - prime example is British Airways)

    5. The food is awful in economy.  Yes, airline food in general is crap, but Lufthansa is not doing anything to change this for sure.  The one redeeming thing they do is serve beer/wine/after dinner drinks for free.  Not unlimited, mind you, but the baileys I had after dinner surpassed the dinner itself.

    6. Check in was unbearably long.  Maybe this was just unlucky. Got to the airport 2 hours early, there was a 90 minute long check in.  I was checking no bags.  Having flown from many airports (domestic and international), I can honestly say I have never run into an Intercontinental flight with such long lines.  Shame shame.

Finally, my biggest bitch: when you fly internationally, you have to take Jet lag into account.  WHY would you make the standard flight fly time such that your body wants to go to bed (it's 11:30 PM  according to your body), but it is early in the morning, Frankfurt time, when you arrive?
