10 reviews for Lucky Strike Lanes
I never heard of this place until co-worker of mine wanted to go here after work... First time I went, it was packed... I guess they have a bowling alley on the second floor and night club... I stayed down stairs, ate some food and had some drinks.
As Rob F. said, the atmosphere is great, but the establishment is also pricey. They have specials on beers, but their food items are priced high and to be honest, it's not like it's the best food I had before. I think folks (especially guys) go here to hit on the ladies working behind the bar... or maybe it's the mini skirt they wear ;)
One advantage is, they have gaming area, so after you eat and have your drink, you and your friends can go over and have fun! It's like David and Busters, but with a club and bowling alley all in one! Brings a whole new meaning to one stop shopping.. err one stop dining and entertainment :)
So me and a few of my workout buds decided to pay homage to the instructor of our hip hop cardio class who announced he was moving to Atlanta. For group fun we decided that Lucky Strike would fit the bill. We arrived around 7pm (right before the teeny-boppers with no place to go after 9 would arrive).
We walked in only to discover that this wasn't a "smoke free" facility. I mean c'mmmoooonnn. Who still smokes? That's like so 1983!! We made our way over to the booths and were seated. I usually wouldn't consider being seated in a timely manner the high point of my evening but it was.
SILENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNCCCCEEE. Yeah that was pretty much it for about 17 minutes. No waitress, no water, no flatware or plates. Our waitress did arrive and immediately explained that she was "slammed" because a staff member had called off. I get that, no problem. So when our food arrived 30 minutes later (we're talking turkey burgers and chicken breast) that was clearly an indication that some of the cooks had called off as well.
The manager did give us a discount on our bill due to the wait time. Our food was good and our waitress was too in spite of the circumstances. I don't know if I would return to Lucky Strike just based on the fact that you can't out run the cigarette smoke. If it were a smoke free environment I would definitely return. THE GAMES ARE WAY COOL don't get me wrong; but while I can wait in line to play games any where the last time I checked there is no line for a pair of healthy lungs that accepts tokens for payment.
Lucky Strike pretty much struck out.
Although the atmosphere inside this place is really cool and enchanting, the experience i had with their staff was just awful. I don't know if they were discriminating or what... our group was definitely 21+ and they kept carding us... 4 times in fact. We were keeping to ourselves, bowling in our lane, being mature young adults. And yet they had some sort of issue with us and kept trying to find a reason to kick us out... they even said we weren't ALLOWED to wear baseball hats...????? WTF? Give me a break, it's not church!!
Anyways, I'd rather do dollar bowling at my local bowling alley than drive all the way back to Novi for the crap I experienced there... and not spend a fortune!
Want to feel like a badass for paying more than you should to bowl? Then maybe this is your place to go. Bowling for just my girlfriend and I to bowl a SINGLE game and a beer each came out to a whopping $27! Wow. On top of it the staff kept walking back up to us to re-card folks that OTHER staff members had already carded - what BAD organization and operations. Subsequently, a staff member tried to tell one of us that we couldn't wear a baseball hat and that only girls could wear hats if it was part of their outfits. OK, first of all this is not church, secondly Novi is not the hood - none of our our hats denoted any sort of gang membership. (Unless of course being a Tigers fan is considered being in a gang). LOL. Thirdly - it's a bowling alley/gaming center! Why would wearing a hat be a problem in ANY regard?
For an establishment that serves up Bud Light Limes, stinky re-usable shoes, and bowling balls - they are awfully pretentious in their pricing and hawk-like staff. Does each different staff member need to card each different patron? That's just foolish. Can you imagine being carded at a club and then being approached by different staff throughout the night and being asked to take your card out again and again? I've had easier times being carded once and being left alone at age 17 with my fake ID in whiskey and smut serving strip clubs - and then this as a 25 year old in a trifling bowling alley in Novi? Forget about it! I will never give another hard earned dollar back to Lucky Strike again. A 17% unemployed metro area does not need overpriced bad business like this.
I am giving this place 2-stars rather than 1 because the chicken wing I stole off my buddy's plate was tasty. I can never knock a good chicken wing. Also, since this is one of the few bowling places that actually make bowling feel hip/trendy - I suppose I will let this place have that extra star in the credit that they offer a certain brand of bowling that is uncommon. An unnecessary brand of bowling, but uncommon nevertheless.
Want to feel like you're in your mid-20s again? This is an absolutely beautiful place to hang out for an evening. Past your 20's? You can still enjoy yourself but expect to feel out of place.
The atmosphere here is great, but expect to pay for it. People bowl here, but they don't go here to bowl. They come here to drink, be seen, and do it all while trying to look cool bowling. Oh, and expect to wait well over an hour for a lane if it's a weekend..more likely 2-3 hours.
I'd go back, but only if I had an extra $100 burning a hole in my pocket. Otherwise, I'll bowl at a place with $1 Budweiser and cheap vodka shots.
Love it! We've hung out here a few times before. When I was charged with planning our Valentine's night out on just a few hours notice, most things were booked, but I thought of Lucky's. We've never even been upstairs to the bowling alley, but spent plenty of time enjoying dinner and playing some video games and good ole skeball.
Lucky's was a perfect place to go and spend a few hours without the little one. We were able to enjoy a good meal and then spend a few hours having fun, while never having to step out into the winter wonderland of the parking lot.
Don't let the name full ya! This is bowling like you have never seen it before. You walk in and realize that bowling is all of a sudden...hip, chic, suave, cool and even "sheck shi"? Yup...true that, at Lucky Strike Lanes...it sure is!!!
It's at "Fountain Walk"...between I-696 and 12mi. rd., just west of Novi rd. It might be a bit tricky to find...you can always call them first.
First of all its HUUUUUGE! Two levels and quite expansive!
All ages allowed until 9pm...then the youngins get kicked out and its
over 21 only, with a dress code...look nice ;-)
The bowling is upstairs...big screens, glo-bowl, very modern with bars and lounges. A bit pricey and only about 12 lanes(I think)...but what the hell...look around!
Downstairs has an arcade, pool tables, bars, big screens, a restaurant, VIP lounges and a dance club...to get your groove on!
It is a one stop entertainment emporium of sorts. They even book parties there. I love it...but too bad...I don't dish out 5 STARS all "willy nilly" :-P
In fact, as I write this review...I'm thinking of people to call to head over there this weekend! I like it best after 8 pm. They are open most nights until 2am.
Lucky's is one of those places you hate to drive to...but its always worth the trip. Located right outside Detroit, Lucky's is a common meeting ground for the suburban friends..lol. Tons of arcade games, wide screen TVs to watch sports, billiards, drinks, and of course the bowling alley upstairs.
Honestly, it's pretty expensive for what it is. For bowling you are paying roughly $10 for a game, and shoes are an extra $4. I have my own ball and shoes, but sometimes you don't want to drag that around with you for all the other fun activities...and so then you have to pay :-(. The arcade games are pretty fun. I just whooped these four guys in basketball yesterday and it felt pretty darn good.
There is soo much to do in that area, such as the E-Magine movie theater, a Hooters restaurant and a couple other bars. So if you are going there from Detroit, it's definitely a one-stop destination.
First Word: HUGE. This place has any and practically everything a recreationing woman (or couple, kids, or group!) could want. Good burgers, great appetizers fun games, all the latest and even some retro games for 80's fans. There is a new lounge where pool tables used to be (trust there are still plenty pool tables) and a singer was back there singing madonna songs and anything requested from 80's to 90's. Upstairs is bowling, which is beautiful! You get your own waitress for your lane who brings excellent martinis! Each lane has flat screen tvs watch CSI while you wait your turn and all the scoring is automated. You can relax and better your game here. Worth the more pricey 10 bucks per person. Let the good times roll...and some childhood dishes are on the menu. Fried Mac and Cheese..Quesadillas, Nachos which are excellent. And what does every late night owl want around 12 am? Breakfast food. Had the Mini Quiches and an order of the Toads in a Hole, eggs baked into buttered toast. They also have the games where you win tickets for prizes one of my favs is the Trivia Game, played with 6 players or less Jeopardy style. You can do something different each time you come here so it continues to be a favorite spot.
Don't Forget MBarGo, which replaces Tequila Rain Lounge upstairs. Prettier and more chic.
This is Dave and Busters on Steroids. Very upscale, deep mahogany wood in the bars, a great looking wait staff. About 10 of us went up there late for some quick food and some fun. We had both! The food was well above average bar food, you know the drill: Chicken Skewers, Dumplings, Spinach dip, not a lot of imagination, but good. the en tree's on the other hand were great: a Burger worth the drive, one of the girls had the grill salmon and it's unbelievably well prepared and crisp on the outside and flaky pinkish red on the inside. We were shocked. This is not a place you want to go for a nice quiet dinner, but it was perfect for us. We went upstairs after and bowled for the first time in about 15 years. Lord, they have changed bowling. High Tech! Big Screens over the lanes and I swear that ball came back within seconds. I mean, how do they do that? A great place for friends, everyone should go!
