So, apparently this is a chain, but as it has yet to make it's way to the Twin Cities, it was a totally new experience for me. I'm definitely not a bowler. I'm embarassingly bad. BUT, I always have a good time, even though scoring a turkey will probably only be achieved at the grocery store.
If I had one word for it, I'd say FLASHY. Reminded me of a disco cum bar cum bowling alley. THis sin't the type of place I'm used to scoring gutter balls! Lots of lights, digital screen, music and plenty of drinks -- even champagne! Now that's something I never thought I'd find in a bowling alley.
The menu was extensive, but I didn't think the food was very good. If it were more along the lines of cheap bar food, I'd have been happier. They tried to class it up a but, but it just didn't work for me. I was, however, introduced to potato chip nachos. A bit pile of Lays smothered in sour cream, chives, bacon and cheese. I think I definitely be making these for my Superbowl party....go Vikes!
Arrived at 7ish on Saturday, asked about lane availability, told nothing was available til 9:30. Peered over at the lanes - five were not occupied. Sooooo...were they all broken?
Anyhow, watched college football while we waited about half an hour for a pool table to open up, and when one did, all the cue sticks sucked. Ass. As in, the tips were put on crookedly, not to be remedied by any sort of manipulations.
The only redeeming factor was that we paid less than four bucks for the less than an hour that we played pool. And I was with my honey, so I had fun anyhows.
Had a great time! Food and drinks were good, bowling was so fun, the atmosphere much better than a regular bowling place, and everyone had a great time. Just beware, it's not a cheap night out.
Lucky Strike is hip, but horribly overpriced. Don't make the mistake of going in the summer because all they have to cool this place is a swamp cooler. I went in August once and if I had a balls other than bowling balls, I would have sweat them off.
Snotty staff that look like they give a rats ass.
Expensive games- two people x two games = $24.00
Shoe rental is additional
The drink prices and food are comparable to Hard Rock Cafe or any of those other tourist chains.
The atmosphere is cool. No minors after 9pm. Kinda 60's mod decor, red lighting, new lanes, flat screen tv's and modern music.
They have a weekly happy hour between 4-7pm. If I were to come back here it would be during that time. I think I'd like it better if it was less crowded. I don't like it when a bunch of people are up in my space and I have to share a table and listen to them cackle (especially if they get wasted and obnoxious)
Let me qualify this review by saying that I hate bowling. It also doesn't help that I truly suck at the activity, but this place was actually quite a bit of fun. My friends told me that it was really expensive, but whatever, it was pretty damn awesome!
Still... wearing shoes that someone else has worn? Messed up, people, come on...
BUT... having your OWN bowling shoes is ever MORE messed up. Catch-22.
Things you must know about Lucky Strike:
1. CHEAP for the experience you get.
2. Club like feel while your bowling with leather couches.
3. Large place with full restaurant located inside.
4. Visit website to find out the GREAT deals. Best ones are on weekdays. It is outrageously cheap if you don't drink and some nights even if you do!!!
5. Food is not good. Simple as that. If you order stay simple such as fries.
6. Have mouthwash in the bathroom. Its Scope......so it sucks.
7. Have a dress code. Look on the website.
8. Loud club atmosphere while going. Great deal for what you get!!
9. Best to go with a large group of people.
I am the worst bowler ever to walk the earth. Only I can bowl a 42 on a lane WITH bumpers.
But I still enjoy hanging out with friends (in this case coworkers) and lobbing a heavy ball down a big wooden track at pins while throwing back some brewskis (you have to call them brewskis whenever bowling is involved).
This place has a great atmosphere with fun music. The layout is incredibly open and the staff was very friendly. The grub we got was pretty tasty too.
Since work paid for the event, I'm not sure how much more it costs compared to going to say, Elitch Lanes, but I have to say, it was a grand old time.
The one downside is that is located in the Pavilions, which means you have to go... downtown. And pay ridiculous amounts of money for parking or park in the wilds of side streets far far away.
Also, you occasionally look out the Lucky Strike windows and are reminded that horrible bars like Coyote Ugly exist. Even when you have tried your hardest to forget.
Located on 16th Street Mall. This is a great date place! you can grab a few drinks, food and go bowling all in one night. Be prepared to spend a lot to bowl. What do you expect this place is located in downtown Denver...most places are a little more expensive.
Not your average bowling alley by any means! What a kick ass place.
Good tunes, good food in this modern day bowling alley. No nachos with fake cheese and pickled jalepenos here. Pizzas, burgers and the must have plate of chocolate chip cookies with shots of milk.
Like other reviews we got caught up with seeing who could roll the ball the fastest.
I suggest reserving a lane ahead of time and take note that kids are not allowed after 9 pm.
My only complaint is that I could have flown to Vegas with the money spent here. I wanted to take a ball home with me to even things out.
Pretty overpriced. Drinks were average cost but the bowling isn't. Nice retro lounge vibe. Waitresses are dressed up with tight clothing, if that's what you're looking for. Service not so great, maybe those uniforms are crawling too far up their... NM. If it weren't for the people running the place who apparently were more interested in their nails then helping people, this place would be pretty awesome.
Ya know, I really like Lucky Strike Lanes. The concept rocks...a place you can bowl, listen to great music, drink, eat, and have a great time with a group of friends. However, my one negative comment is the price tag that comes along with your night of fun.
I have been their several times to bowl, but once the drinks start rolling in, you start bowling, drinking more, getting competitive, you are $60-$100 in the hole. I think the drinks are a little overpriced. They should do some type of special - ex. if you are bowling, you get half off on drinks. I know a few of my guy friends even complain about the beer being expensive.
I guess every once in a while Lucky Strike is a nice treat...but I rather bowl at Elitch Lanes on the nights when they offer $1 bowl and $1 beers! They play music too, the only difference is that it is OLD SCHOOL.
Meh... I cannot fathom why anyone in their right mind would think it's okay to spend this much money to bowl. The drinks are overpriced and average, the bowling is... bowling. I don't need a waitress in ripped fishnets to make me feel cool. I went here once on a first date. We played one game, had one beer each and dropped nearly $50. Insane. It's frikkin bowling!?!
Day or night this place has its perks. I have taken my kids here during the day and even though the guys a couple lanes down were throwing back pitchers and competing each other for ball speed down the lane, it was not intimidating and still family friendly...although bring a full wallet.
Great for date night and group activities. Where else can you bowl, play pool, eat, drink, scream and look cool - all at the same time?
I just can't see going back to my local AMC.
trendy, fancy bowling alley. I prefer the charms of an old bowling alley with cheap games and cheap beer but if your looking for something a little more classy then here you go!
My 6yr old and I had some down time between the Denver Mint and the Downtown Aquarium (yikes...don't go...but that's another review) and we had a blast at Lucky Strike. Good music, big video screens, bowling, attentive bar service (best bottomless lemonade!!). It beats the heck out of our local bowling alley.
My friend was in Denver a week later and took his work team to Lucky Strike. They loved it too.
Originated in Hollywood and it feels like a movie stars hangout!
I played in some bowling leagues there with PlayCoed on a Monday night and it was probably the best league I've ever been in
Lots of fun, good music, beer, and even good lanes. Also, several pool tables you can reserve if you get bored of bowling. We stopped by for a couple hours this past weekend and had a blast!
One of the best parts: the computer screens tell you *how fast* you chucked the ball, not just how many pins you hit. I tell you that this can make for better competition than the actual bowling. I only mustered 16.5mph, but there's always next time.
When did bowling get this cool? I've noticed a resurgence in bowling lately. In fact, a recent job I briefly held featured an official staff night out every week, and we bowled at least one out of every three or four staff nights. However, my coworkers and I bowled at a seedy joint off Federal that looks more like what you'd expect from a bowling alley.
Lucky Strike, on the other hand, could fool you into thinking that it's just there to serve you drinks and confuse you about exactly what that item on the sandwich menu might be. If you're like me, you'll be struck by the cuteness and flirtiness of the waitresses and forget to ask what that sandwich actually is, and end up stammering, "I'll have a burger," instead. Those outfits belong on girls serving drinks at a strip club, but the male clientelle isn't complaining!
Oh, and they have bowling, too- but it almost seems like an afterthought once you're done socializing and checking out the cocktail waitresses.
I suck at bowling, I mean really bad! I think my bowling has been called slapstick at one point, so finding a place like this is awesome. I can hang out and be cool while everyone else plays. there are lot's of cute guys to look at and talk to and it's not like I'm out to pick up anyone because I'm B0WLING! HA HA
This is a really *nice and hip* bowling alley which is great. They have a full sit down bar and it is very loungey. Like Shiho said, however, it's not an average bowling alley. When I think of bowling, I think of pitchers of beer, nachos, and other old school bowling fun habits! I prefer to go to an older, less classy joint. Just me. But for a date, this is fun.....for a group.....give me trashy.
One of the cleanest and hippest bowling alley ever. So nice that I don't think it attracts the average bowler. I mean, don't you go bowling to get a little dirty?
i used to smoke lucky strikes, so i've always kind of associated this bowling alley with carcinogens. i recently played a few games with my brother, though, and i found that it was a great, clean, fun place! A little addicting though...
Lucky Strike is a great place to bowl and hang out. The place is clean, hip, and they always have great music playing. The strike is great even if you're not going to bowl--the bar inside is comfortable, spaciaous, and makes for a great place to hang out and have a few drinks. The staff is friendly, the food is great (especially their sliders and basket of fries), and they have giant flatscreens right in front of the bar making the strike a great place to hang out and watch sports.
Part sports bar, part bowling alley; Lucky Strike is all over swanky. You won't find the typical bowling league bums loitering around this plush frat boy's paradise. Drinks slide across the bowling lane bar top as big screen TV's blare sports in the backdrop. Two dollar Coors Light and three dollar well calls all night transform the parameters of the traditional happy hour. And WOW! Those cocktail waitress' skirts are short enough to bring the boys to the brink of blushing. Bowling, sports, and booty - the makings of the modern macho man.
Caprese Smore Sandwiches and Tequila Lime Grilled Shrimp make the menu of culinary concoctions look both enticing and interesting. The concept of this menu is quite kitchy but the food is ultimately disappointing and overpriced. The bowling alley bratwursts, hamburgers and French fries are a safer selection.
Lucky Strike is a great place for a date if you consider your ass an asset. So you slip on those pre-sweat bowling shoes with your size prominently etched in the heel and you are off for a night of knocking them down. Gutter balls are your game as you hook left, hook right and send your score soaring into a stand still. Luckily your date is beholden to your behind or obsessively ogling Sports Center which is displayed on yet another screen just above your tenacious ten pins. Animated Wild West bowling balls in ten gallon hats shoot down his strikes on the scoreboard when he takes a turn. You don't like loosing but you are in for another game. You put up with his pointers and the pins start teetering and toppling. You strut your stuff while he cheers you on. This is how the night continues until you are tingling with tipsiness and realize that you are the giggling girl who is actually enjoying this goofy game.
Cool hip place but $10 a bowling game? Really?
This place is GREAT, FUN, and a bit spendy. The service also needs a little help. But we have such a good time we don't let the price and a few snooty wait staffers keep us from going back. Bowling has never been cooler!
Classy bowling? It's true. Go on a weekday night and you can bowl whenever you want.
good bowling alley food, good white russians, good times!
pretty cool place to bowl. always crowded though...
pin smashing good time!
