Lucky Shot is one of the reasons I chose to stay in Greenpoint. After spending about three months between Southern California, Northern California and Colorado, I returned to find an amazing coffee shop a block from my house. First off, they use beans from Portland's Stumptown, freshly roasted in Red Hook. So there's no more pretending puerto rico is good. Secondly upon my first awkward conversation with the barista he informed me that he used to work at Victrola in Seattle, my old neighborhood joint. I've been hooked ever since. Not only is soy latte is the best I've had in New York, now I have it all the time. The staff are always friendly, even when I roll in wearing my pajamas. And there's a constant supply of random art on the walls to stare at while you wait for your morning wake-up.

I could say that only offering baked goods to eat is a bummer, but this is a coffee place and not a cafe. If you live in the hood, make this your routine. If you leave nearby, hit it on a Sunday.

Displacing the mysterious (as in, who shopped there?) boutique Brooklynski, this new coffee shop is small, simple, and satisfying. $2 will get you a decent-sized cup of French-pressed coffee, and even if you get the bottom of a carafe, the coffee's still fresh, hot, and full bodied. I'd imagine their espresso drinks are even better.

One item on the chalkboard menu I hadn't seen or heard of before. It's a cordato -- or something like that; I actually forget -- and the guy at the counter told me it's basically a small latte. "Good for when you just have five minutes to sit," he said.

It's just a couple of blocks away from Cup of Joe's, but it's more on my way to work, so it's more likely to be frequented. Another nice coffee option for the neighborhood, and not as far away as Cafe Grumpy (which is hardly far away).

I'm a big fan of Lucky Shot. They serve Stumptown Coffee, which is delicious! So delicious. And they are very nice,

I like going there, and it's close to where I live.

They make an outstanding cup of coffee and they're a block from my apt in the crappy side Greenpoint. I'm very grateful that they're here.

Like someone else said, they're very consistent, and it's a very high standard. Possibly the best cup of coffee I've ever had. It's that good.

Very minimal set-up though - just some art and some stools - so I don't think I'd spend much time there.

The best cappuccino in Brooklyn (using NY's "Joe the art of coffee" as the reference Standard) and always has interesting art on the walls. Small in size but packing a competent staff and good coffee beans. Also has all the essentials pastries, muffins, including my fav, a very flaky croissant.

One recent below freezing afternoon I was scurrying home from McCarren park, barely able to make it as far as Lucky Shot to recaffinate myself, when, I discovered, argh, I hadn't taken any money! Fortunately, the barista took pity on what must have been a pretty pathetic sight, and gave me a free cappuccino. I was saved.

I understand they changed the name to "Variety" now.

I stopped in yesterday.  I'd been in before but wasn't thrilled, but thought I needed to give Lucky Shot another try.  I usually go over to Oslo, but was in a hurry to get on the train.  I ended up getting the most cocky, arogant, lame hipster attitude and an iced latte with way too much milk.

I asked how much an iced mocha was and the too-cool-for-school barista dude said "$4.75, but I'll give it to you for $4.25."  I thought it was a bit high and he noticed and said "that's the going rate around town." I said "not at Oslo." to which he responded "We're better than Oslo." I told him I was a big fan of Oslo. I asked how much for an iced latte and he said "it's usually $4.25, but I'll give it to you for $4."  He also went on to tell me they used organic milk and get their coffee from Stumptown.

He was pretty obvious about disliking me and my questions, so I'm not sure why he was trying to make me feel like he was cutting me some fantastic deal on espresso beverages.

And seriously - who gives a crap if it's from Stumptown.  I've been to Stumptown and it is great tasting coffee.  But clearly Lucky Shot doesn't know how to brew it - my latte was thin and totally not proportionate to the milk.

I'm never going back! I heart Oslo!

Yes, the coffee is super delicious, but it's kind of hard to screw up Stumptown. You don't get points for not ruining a good thing.

Actually most of my experiences here are good. The women behind the counter are friendly and tolerate my near-incoherent, pre-coffee muttering. I've even seen some decent art on the walls, which is certainly a rarity in Brooklyn coffee shops.

But there's some dude who works there who's a total prick. I don't know if it's just his face, or the way he subtly corrects me when I order "coffee" instead of "French press," or the way he creepily flirts with the young mothers who come in and then exhibits visible disdain when I (like an idiot) ask for a large "coffee."

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. You can't go wrong with Stumptown, and these guys know how to brew it. It's less of a costume party than its predecessor Variety on Graham, plus they let you bring your dog inside. They pull their espresso pretty short, so if you like it a little less thick you can ask for a longer pull.

This small new shop offers Stumptown Coffee Roasters Coffee and excellent espresso.  The menu is limited, as they brew only french presses and espresso.  Cappuccino was excellent. Decent selection of tea.   I would definitely go there again.

The espresso drinks (my drink disclosure: cortado, machiato, latte, cappuccino)  are good, and it doesn't seem to really matter  who's working.  This kind of consistency in a small neighborhood shop is appreciated.  Stumptown is, of course, great - but what makes the espresso drinks excellent at Lucky Shot is the baristas. They know what they're doing. I have only had their regular coffee once - while rushing to get caffeinated and get to work - it was also good.

The shop is clean. Actually, the place is so small and simple that the morning's bakery boxes can make clutter. Speaking of baked goods, I believe they get Blue Sky muffins and pastries. The atmosphere is nice for a little sit-down, and the bench out front is lovely.

Some days, they are not actually open from 7am to 7pm. And this can be a bummer. But maybe it's just my timing.

Note: I'd call this neighborhood Greenpoint. The BQE divides Greenpoint from Wiliamsburg in this neck of the woods, and Driggs is decidedly north of that line.

AMEN!  I've lived in this neck of greenpoint for 5 years and thought it incredibly cruel that we would have something as novel as a dog-owners boutique but NO good coffee for many many blocks on McGolrick Park .  From the first sip of my latte I was like. FINALLY. somebody got it right.    Not watery, not bitter, not burnt, not stale.   This espresso is sublime in the way that espresso is supposed to be.  FINALLY!!!!

I believe it's the same owners of Variety, the one on Graham Ave. Same concept here but only in Greenpoint. Same great stumptown coffee, and great spot.

Best damn cup of coffee in the neighborhood. I have never once in my life been able to taste the subtle flavor notes described on bags of coffee until I had a dainty little french press from this place. $1.50 opened my eyes.
