Neighborhood: Queens/SunnysideGREAT SUSHI! This place is so random and fantastic. I had the spicy yellowtail roll with miso soup and edamame, and enjoyed every last bite (to the sound of a live blues band, no less). My dining companions had everything from burritos, to pulled pork sandwiches to lamb sirloin and nobody had any complaints. The food & drink at Lucky Mojos is prepared well and priced well too. I haven't been this excited about a new restaurant in the area in a long time.

So...coming outta water taxi beach about to go back into the city, 2 girls target my group of guy friends and lure them with free drink tickets to Lucky Mojo's. It's a cool seafood spot. Large main dining area with a live band, walk upstairs (in the evening no one was there), then walk out onto the balcony and it's another chill outdoor spot. We ordered the spicy tuna, catfish fingers, and the steamed gulf shrimp (u have to peel them). And a round of beers. Although service messed up a little and was kinda slow, we gave them the benefit of the doubt. It is a hassle serving people all the way downstairs and also up out here on the balcony. We got a round of Don Julio shots on the house when we left so they stayed on our good side. Food was okay at best. But since i liked the atmosphere and the fact that they took care of us, i would recommend it and come back.
Note: One of my boys got the Porkslap beer. Our waitor described it as "the cheapest beer imaginable." It was cheap and gross. Not worth it. Ew.

Located on a spare stretch b/w the Hunter's Point 7 stop and the LIC Tennisport and Water Taxi Beach, Lucky Mojo definitely pushes its luck/mojo by boldly touting it has BBQ and Sushi on its outdoor signage.
BBQ and Sushi? What's the best case scenario - kick ass unagi?
But after putting aside those reservations, I've got to admit that I've liked the BBQ and Southern food I've had here.
The fried chicken is very good - it takes 20-30 minutes to prepare but it's worth it. Flavorful on the outside, juicy on the inside. It's an authentic take on Southern fried chicken.
The pulled pork BBQ sandwich was good as well. Nice portion. The pork was moist and the accompanying sauce had a little bit of kick to it. The other BBQ items on the menu include ribs, brisket, and southern fish like redfish and catfish (available grilled, blackened, or fried).
On apps, I liked the Shrimp and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake. The fried catfish fingers and buffalo wings were both solid. On sides, the mac & cheese was ok. Cole slaw has a nice vinegary taste. They had cajun corn last time I was there and that was really good.
The space is huge. Two floors and a outdoor deck in the back. There's a stage on the first floor where they have live blues on Saturday nights. Good beer selection on draft and in bottles. Prices are pretty cheap.
So 4 stars for the BBQ/Southern food. I've yet to try the sushi though...not sure I'm feelin' the mojo there...

Interesting menu...sushi, BBQ, cajun all on the same menu. Isn't there some saying where it goes "jack of all trades, master of none".
Well, the chef(s) certainly is a master of none as the food was average at best. However, given the variety of stuff you can order from, it's a good place to go to if you or your date can't decide on what type of food cuisine you want for dinner as there is pretty much something for everyone here.
Being an avid sushi lover, I ordered a few of their rolls. Tuna roll, Salmon Roll and Coconut shrimp roll. All were average. I felt it was only slightly better than the ones you can get at grocery stores. The rice was a bit overcooked I thought and the fish wasn't as fresh or high grade as other sushi places, but hey, they're not advertising themselves to be a japanese restaurant.
We also tried the ribs which were good and tender, but they could have used a bit more sauce. The shoestring fries were good as well as the red beans and rice, but nothing to crave for.
While the food was o-k, I thought the atmosphere was kinda fun. They have a stage for a live band though the only music playing the night we were there came from the speakers. Drinks were fairly priced, maybe cheaper than Manhattan come to think of it.
On Wednesday nights, all residents of Long Island City get 25% off their sushi order which was nice for me since I live there. They run other similar promotions each day of the week though I've forgotten all the details.
Yay! A fun new discovery in L.I.C. This place has a random menu (sushi/BBQ/Mexican?) which makes it much harder to decide between all of the appetizing choices. Do I want a special "Coconut Shrimp Roll" (yes please, next time), some BBQ ribs, or tacos? After much deliberation I had the Blackened Chicken Burrito, and it was delicious. Not too huge, perfectly cooked chicken, yum. I went for dinner on a Saturday with 4 friends and everyone enjoyed their meals. Fun atmosphere too-- live music! I will definitely be heading back to Lucky Mojo.

I came here for a couple of beers during the week and initially thought I'd stumbled into the wrong place. It looked like a cross between a family restaurant and a Western bar.
After downing a beer I took the advice of the bartender and ordered the fried chicken. Fried chicken with pickles?? Holy moly!! Now, I've had some fried chicken, but this was a real treat! Very impressive.
I've gone back many times and every time, I've come away happily satisfied.
I even took a chance on the sushi and I was extremely impressed.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. Give it a try.

This traditional BBQ spot has reemerged adding New Orleans-style cuisine and a sushi bar to round out the menu so there is something for everyone. The live music on Saturday has been excellent, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The only time I had a complaint, they were quick to make up for it and made sure I left happy.
I once took a large (15 people) party of diverse eaters and everyone left very pleased. I haven't had a bad meal, though the sides could be improved. The fried chicken is fabulous, and the brisket and ribs are wonderful. I finally got fed up with no one wanting to share the Alligator and Chicken Sausage Cheesecake, so ordered it for myself last night. It came with a wonderful rue and was passed along among the party.
My only warning is that they can struggle to fit groups larger than 4 downstairs, so it is a good idea to call ahead. Now that the weather is warmer, I'm looking forward to eating in their outside area upstairs.

Barbeque and sushi in one place? Lucky Mojos does both very well.
The atmosphere remind me a lot of House of Blues, a touch of New Orleans and southern comfort, so it was surprising to hear that they served sushi as well.
My friends and I went last night, and we all left full and satisfied. From what they told me, the fried chicken and grilled fish were good and the ribs were amazing.
I organized the vegetarian burrito which was filled with a mix of cheese, vegetables, and grilled tofu. Being from California, I have very high standards for burritos, and this one passed the test. It was delicious! All of the flavors were right, and it was piping hot. Mmm hmmm! My burrito came with a side of beans and rice, which I barely touched because the burrito alone was very filling. Oh, and the creamy chipotle sauce was amazing!
My friends gave me a taste of their sides, and I'm definitely ordering the mashed potatoes and mac & cheese next time. So good...! I can't wait to go back.
The also have a good selection of beers. I don't really like beer, but when I drink, it's usually a Blue Moon. My friend ordered a Purple Haze, which was like a Blue Moon with a hint of berry. Delicious!
