I am having a moral dilemma... do I share my secrets with the Yelptastic peeps or do I horde them all to myself so you don't know all the good details...

Ah who am I kidding... never could keep a secret! :)

So background before secrets -
It was a girl's breakfast for our friend who is preggers. She wanted delicious breakfast and heard Lucile's was the place to go. There were 8 of us and we knew the place was small. They said we would have to wait but it usually isn't too long.

Secret #1 - there is a room upstairs where you can sit and wait if you don't want to be outside or have small children who can't stand for 30 min while you wait for a table.
And yes, you will wait for a table.
Lucile's is really charming. Adorable house, eclectic staff and table settings.

Secret #2 - If you are claustrophobic, don't go. It is a tight fit. The tables and chairs are jammed in there and the wait staff bump past you to get to the tables.

Secret #3 - Don't bring your white mink coat... (okay, honestly, who has a white mink anyway?!) But the point is, our server spilled coffee everywhere and acted like it happens all the time so... we just moved our jackets and tried to stay out of drip range. Like I said above, it's a tight fit so your sunday best might be at risk. I'm just saying... don't freak out because now, you have been warned.

Secret #4 - ORDER THE BEIGNETS!!!! And don't you dare shake the sugar off... amazing... I could have made a meal of those.

Secret #5 - When you look at the menu and see that the entree is $8 or $12 and you think that is quite a bit for an entree, remember this - That is like two servings at LEAST! The portions were HUGE (okay I can really only speak for breakfast)!! Two girls at the table shared the farmers eggs and I thought that even a half portion would be too much!

Secret #6 - You want a biscuit... not kidding. Order one. Right now. But... consider sharing with your neighbor. Don't balk when you see they cost $2.25 for one. It isn't your grandma's biscuit... It's a loaf of your grandma's biscuits! They are huge too!

Secret #7 - There is a bathroom on the main floor but there is one upstairs too... the main floor one is kinda awkward...

Secret #8 - You're gunna be full... and wanna come back to try something else. :)

Secret #9 - One of the jars of red jelly on the table is pepper jelly... I'm just sayin' ... when you think it's strawberry and it's not... not so fun. :)

We ordered beignets for the table then I ordered an egg how I like it and a biscuit. That filled me up! Granted, I don't have the biggest appetite out there but seriously. It was good.

Definitely make a date to go to Lucile's but... bring your patience for the wait.

This is one of the easiest five stars I've ever given.

My husband and I visited a friend in Boulder about a month ago. I turned to my fellow yelpers for places to go, and this seemed to be the one. You could not have recommended me to a better place.

Adorable setting, with unique scrap fabric napkins on each table. Portland would love you. I love you. We even watched squirrels playing outside the window. They were jumping from branch to branch doing crazy acrobatics. It basically was breakfast with some free entertainment.

The Beignets (I topped mine with strawberry rhubarb) were warm mouthfuls of sugary goodness. The Eggs Jenny : Thomas' english muffin, spinach, tomato, avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise. Served with grits or potatoes was to die for. Or at least worth giving up a pinky toe.

I accompanied mine with the grits. I've had grits before and they were bland piles of white crap, but this was a swirl of sensations like none other. I LITERALLY scraped my plate clean. Not a speck of food was left. Really, you could have put the plate back on the shelf, and nobody would bat an eye. I would be obese if you came to Portland. But at least I would be fat and happy.

The Lucille's salt-free seasoning was great and they even sell it at the front counter, for something around 4 bucks. I was so pumped. I tried to convince my husband to buy several, but he gave me a look and encouraged me just to get one. That doesn't mean that I won't order more when I run out, because I will.

In Boulder for a weekend. Two breakfasts at Lucille's, because the best is good enough for me.

Saturday a.m.: Blackened Salmon and Collard Greens, with Earl Grey tea.

Sunday a.m.: Pan fried Trout, with two poached eggs, delicious potatoes, and Earl Grey tea.

Biscuits both days, but I did share them (nice excuse). The apple butter is decadent.

I've been coming to Lucille's for longer than I can remember, and it's always wonderful. Plus, it's very reasonably priced.

Bravo.

All I can say is I told K I think I loved my biscuit & gravy more than I love him. That's a LOT.

Holy brunch batman! WHY have I not been here sooner? Fresh from the grease beignets? Awesome cinnamon spiked hot cocoa? INSANELY fluffy biscuits smothered in some of the best sausage gravy I've ever had with a side of cheese grits?

Oh I'm so in love right now. SO in love. I may propose. To the biscuit.

Lucile's has been a Boulder fixture for years, and perhaps is taking it for granted. My last two visits were extremely unpleasant. The restaurant is cramped, and tables are very close together. Prepare yourself for listening to a number of other conversations. In the summer, it's incredibly hot and poorly ventilated; my client couldn't deal and had to leave mid-meal.
The food is decent, but the ambiance is that of a bus-station, crowded, noisy, and rushed.
When I need a Lucile's fix, I now go the the Longmont location which is roomier and less hurried.

Lucile's is a Boulder INSTITUTION.

I recommend Hank's Eggs -- a tangy mix of eggs, potatos, avocado, and everything else that's amazing in the world. Lucile's also has their own hot sauce, ketchup, and hickory coffee.

It's like eating in New Orleans, but without the poor service and sporadic hours.

I moved to Boulder from New Orleans, and I can honestly say that if Lucille's were IN New Orleans, it would be an average breakfast spot.  Lucille's offers NOLA local sounding fare, including beignets...it's just that they're missing the New Orleans attitude...at least on the weekends.

Sat/Sun morning popularity has resulted in the staff rushing the breakfast for top table turns....complete with check delivered well before you're done.  The egg dishes are definitely genuine Creole....the atmosphere is not.

I'm hesitant to proceed on this one because I feel that any review that I write can not and will not do this place justice.

Hands down my favorite place for Eggs Benedict in the entire US.  Where should I even start? The ham.  The ham is to die for.  It's actually REAL shaved off the bone ham (as opposed to the processed ham that comes in pre-packaged round slices), huge generous portions with that off the bone texture. The hollandaise sauce is very traditional - rich, creamy & flavorful just how I like it.  Next come the grits.  These are to die for. I'm not southern and I don't even LIKE grits!! But these grits man, they are orgasmic.  Splurge on your calorie count and order the ones with cheese.

I'm also a huge fan of the giant fluffy homemade biscuits. These are huge, super fluffy & piping hot.  So delicious!  Add the jam on the table.

Lucile's in Boulder always has a wait but it's well worth it!  If your one of those that can stand to wait (like my father) try the location up the diagonal hwy in Longmont, CO.  Equally quality food and I've never had to wait at the Longmont location.

Yes, Lucile, I'm just *that* into you.

A friend wanted to set me up with Lucile. I was a bit hesitant, because well, Lucile is in Boulder and I'm in New York. I've grown accustomed to a different class and thought perhaps I might get bored with a small hometown local gal. But my friend insisted and said that I should look her up online.

And what I saw online caught my eye. Creole/Cajun. Oh my. I love the spice, the fire, and soul of Southern gals. I was intrigued and agreed to meet even I had no time and was on my way out of town.

Lucile had me at hello. Lucile is in an cute little Victorian house turned into a restaurant. The porch was filled, so we sat inside, but I already knew before even taking one bite that I would be back and I WILL sit out on the porch.

I ordered the sausage and biscuits and just about died. Both from the pleasure of eating and from the richness of the sausage gravy. There was some really lovely spice and heat in the gravy, which cut through the richness.

The biscuits were warm and fluffy. Delicious with their homemade jams (real whole blueberries with their blueberry jam! And you can buy their jams, biscuit mixes, teas, etc in their store.) and just as delicious without anything. The grits were so creamy. The red beans . . . mmmm . . . sooooo gooood.

Lucile, I'm sorry that I had to leave you so soon, but believe me, you're no one night stand. I am *that* into you. I'll be back. See, I even called like I said I would. Okay, maybe not as quickly as I had promised, but I still called.

Just don't expect me to move in with you. At least not yet.

Creole breakfast?  Yes!  Lucille's is the type of place with traditional breakfasts as well as breakfast with a Cajun flair.  The OJ is not to be missed... it is fresh squeezed and it was fantastic!  We had a half order of beignets while we browsed the menu.  The beignets are New Orleans style donuts covered in powdered sugar.  They are served fresh and piping hot!  My breakfast came with a biscuit that was large enough for 3 people to eat.  It was an amazing biscuit though... so good that I wrapped it up to take home.  My creole omelet was wonderful with the sausage and ham.  The egg was nice and fluffy and served with a creole sauce on top.  The pseudo hubby had the eggs benedict which was not your ordinary eggs benedict due to the shaved ham that was served on top.  Simply delicious!  Grits are an option to many of the dishes and they taste great with a dash of the hot sauce.
The condiments on the table are great as well... there is a hot pepper jelly, a strawberry rhubarb jam, a cajun type hot sauce, and a house blend ketchup.
The seating is tight and be prepared for a wait if you are arriving at prime weekend breakfast time.  But above all, do miss out on Lucille's!

One of my all time favorite places to grab breakfast. Unfairly colored by college memories, I travel back here nearly every time I'm in Boulder and have yet to be disappointed.

Sure the place is a little dogeared and it appears they've been refilling the same jam jars forever, but the jam is strawberry rhubarb and the chicory coffee is just like it oughta be to go with the buttermilk biscuits the size of your head.

It's all good. Just go.

I hear there's one in Denver, too.

Southern Food-New York Manners

I used to really love this place, but I've gone off of it. The last time we went for a late breakfast, the place was empty but the host crammed us onto a small, rickety table. When we asked if we could have something slightly more comfortable since the place was empty, the host begrudgingly told us to go ahead with the caveat that we would have to move if someone else needed the table. We didn't move, but to add insult to injury, the man seated the next couple that came in on a large round table that seated six people. It was unwelcoming and freakishly rude. Lucille's may have southern food, but they have no knowledge of southern manners.

Another reason I've gone off this place is that the portions are just hideously large and expensive and I never feel good after eating here. Further, there is something slightly unsanitary about Lucille's. I hate the pots of jam that get used over and over again, their spoons dragged against each bite of toast, stuck back in and then used again for the next group of customers. The old house is cozy and interesting, but there is fine line between old and charming and just dirty.

The first time I ate here I thought I'd be a fan forever. But between the crowds, the management that takes it's customers for granted, the prices and the grime issues, I'm a little done. It doesn't mean I won't go back occasionally, but there are too many other good options in town. I always wonder why the brunch at Red Fish was never packed. It was $11 for an all you can eat southern buffet, the atmosphere was great, and they had a jazz band. Sadly Redfish has been replaced by the mediocre Boulder Draught House or I'd be over there over Lucille's anytime.

Serves mimosas and has some patio seating, but the patio is enclosed. Not really outdoor seating per se.

I like Lucile's.  However, I'm not one of those Lucile's nutcases who think it's the best thing since sliced bread (or beignets) and congregate like crazy people outside the front door when it's -15 outside talking about how they'd wait 5 HOURS TO GET THEIR TONGUES ON THAT ANDOUILLE OH MY GOD.

Seriously, you will wait if you choose to eat here, and you will probably wait outside, since their waiting area is oddly miniscule.  Once you are seated after a half hour at least, if you're lucky, you'll be literally touching knees with enthusiastic Boulderites shoveling $14 veggie scramble into their mouths, getting knocked in the back of the chair by waiters toting pots of chicory coffee and trying to respond to all the waving refill cups, and breathing in powdered sugar dust that's rising in clouds from whatever table has just begun devouring their beignets.

While I don't understand why anyone would come to Lucile's to eat a cheese omelete or an $8 bowl of granola, the actual Creole dishes are, I have to admit, pretty damn unique and pretty damn good.  I'm partial to the Eggs Pontchartrain (now why is this plate, all trout and bearnaise, only $10 and the veggie scramble $14?) and the Carlin county, the best biscuits and gravy to be found anywhere except for at the defunct Whistler Cafe in Nederland, may it rest in peace.

I don't get the hype about the beignets; to me they just taste like sugary dough that chokes me every time I try to take a bite.  For real, don't breathe in even a little bit when raising one to your mouth, or you'll be out of commission coughing for 5 minutes.

Those who haven't eaten authentic creole food before might not appreciate how perfectly New Orleans Lucile's dishes taste. Then again, I'm hardly a Southerner and have only been to New Orleans once, so it's possible that Lucile's merely matches my memory and not reality. Whatever the case, Lucile's is one of the best places in Boulder for breakfast.

The premiere item on Lucile's menu is the beignets, a New Orleans style deep fried donut covered with powdered sugar, just like the ones from the street stands in French Quarter. With four of them for a reasonable price, they make an excellent start to the meal for a group or a meal in and of themselves if you're on your own.

The rest of their menu features a delicious andouille sausage based Creole Omelet, several great egg dishes including Eggs Jennifer, and a small selection of bready breakfasts such as French Toast, named on the menu in French style as "Pain Perdu" (Lost Bread).

While the food is excellent, there are a few negative aspects to Lucile's. Due to the location, there's often a long wait for a table in the white house they've set up shop in. The prices aren't cheap, though it's still affordable every once in a while. And it's lucky winters in Boulder are mild because the lack of an indoor waiting area means that if you're set on going to Lucile's, you may be trapped out in the cold.

Not all their food is to my liking. though I know it's the Southern style and many people prefer them that way, I find their grits to be too heavily buttered. Their jams and jellies, while tasty, are often too gourmet for my liking (give me a classic strawberry or raspberry jam any day). And their fancy coffees certainly are more Starbucks than down-home Southern.

While I can't lie and say I don't love the food at Lucile's, the deterrents are strong enough that I'd only end up chowing down there once a year or so. So if it's a special occasion, Lucile's might be a great place to go. The rest of the time, you're probably better off hitting another one of Boulder's great diners.

amazing breakfast!  Lucile's is really a charming breakfast spot built into an old house, with a bunch of little tables scattered throughout what would be the living room and dining room of this house.  my friend ordered the eggs sardou and i had the cheese omelet, which had ricotta, cheddar, and muenster cheese.  we both had the potatoes and biscuits.  i also ordered a small glass of orange juice.  the total bill was around $23, which is a bit high for breakfast, but we were both full until well past dinnertime.

the eggs sardou were amazing; the spinach was perfectly creamy and delicious and the shrimp was prepared wonderfully.  the omelet was also good, but not as good as the eggs sardou!  the cheeses were really creamy and were a good compliment to the eggs.  the potatoes were slightly salty, crispy, and really well spiced--everything a breakfast potato should be!  i tried some of the ketchup on the table after much prodding from my friend, and it was delicious.  this is coming from someone who rarely uses any ketchup.

the biscuit, as many others have pointed out...were to die for.  they were HUGE and buttery.  after slathering some of the jam on it...i felt like i was biting into a piece of heaven.  seriously.  amazing place.

As someone who does not like eggs in any way, shape, or form, finding a good breakfast spot can be challenging when traveling.  Luckily there is Lucille's.  While my husband was happily eating one of the many egg options from the menu, I was enjoying the cornmeal blueberry pancakes.  YUM!!!  We liked it so much we ate there twice.

Damn, Lucile's is delicious! I tinkered around with their menu, but found my new favorite dish...Hank's eggs. It's a mix of eggs and cheese and their awesome potatoes and veggies with this great sauce. mmm. It is quite rich though...get it only if you need a good colon cleansing.

Great chicory coffee. CORNBREAD...yes!!! I wonder how closely Lucille's food resembles real southern/cajun cuisine. Hell, I don't know the difference.

Do yourself a favor and hit up Lucille's...just not during peak hours (11 am - 1pm on weekends) or you'll be put on a waiting list. Waiting lists are annoying, but they usually are a good sign of a place where people want to go!

Fantastic breakfast place.  Fantastic.  I still like the drunken hungover Village experience, and I adore the Buff.

But you want to do something with a great girl the night after you feel lucky enough to still be with her, and want to up it from Foolish Craig's or something along those lines....

this place is dynamite.

WAIT is long.

The best breakfast I've had (out) in Boulder so far.
(Out, because my wife is a better cook than you'd believe.)

My wife got the Cajun Breakfast.  I had the Pain Perdu.  Father-in-law had some omelette.  We were all absolutely elated with our meals.

Their biscuits are renowned.  I'm not a big biscuit fan, so I'll just say they're better than I expected.

The food is just spectacular, ok?  There's nothing more to say about it.  There's enough variety to please just about anyone.

The setting is terrific.  It's just an old house.  We were seated on the porch, where there are 5 tables.  The rest of the house has tables throughout each room.  I didn't get a tour, but there's space.

When we got there (around 10:30am on a Monday), the wait was about 15-20min for a party of 3.  A bit surprising for a weekday, perhaps, but a testament to their well-deserved popularity.

TIPS:
Lucile's has multiple locations, which could explain some of the apparent confusion in the tips below.  This location is an old house.  This location has a limited lunch menu.  This location has NO BAR.

Whether or not they're good for groups is debatable.  Your wait will be longer with a group.  That said, if you show up at a slow time or have enough time to wait ... it would be a blast to go with several people.

They're not cheap.  Most breakfasts are in the $9 range.  And well worth it.

The customers were typical Boulderites in typical dress.  Some nice, some fresh off their latest run.  Whoever voted formal attire in the tips has a great sense of humor.  One group of people there had a young lady with her triathlon number still visible on her calf, and another guy talking about his most recent marathon.  Shorts and technical shirts.  They weren't turned away.

I don't think there's a wheelchair ramp in the back.  There certainly isn't one in the front...

This location DOES have outdoor seating.  See above.

Who doesn't love grits on a Sunday morning????

I love Lucile's.  For me, it's a Boulder staple.  When I moved to Denver after college, I was so happy to find a Lucile's close to downtown.  The restaurant owners know they're doing something right.  From the little jellies on the table, the fresh hot beignets, the little cloth napkins made from a lumberjack's shirt....they have the cajun theme down, and it tastes goooooood.

9/10 times there will be a wait to get seated.  But in both locations I've been to, there's ample room outside to mill around until your table is ready.  Their food is such a good hangover cure, that I usually don't mind waiting for a table no matter how haggard I am from the night before!

The service is prompt and the servers are usually really friendly.  Tables are small and close together in both locations, which is a little intimate, but doesn't really bother me.

Oh and did I mention they have grits?

Let me just tell you something so you can get an immediate feel of the place:  They wont serve you water unless you ask as is an effort to conserve water.

Additions to the above:  the place was an old house and was converted.  They have variously colored/patterned kerchiefs as their napkins.  The juices are squeezed by your waitperson.

Its a creole-style New Orleans breakfast place.  They have a lot of things with poached eggs if you're a fan.  I have been here twice and have gotten Hanks Eggs both times.  Its a large meal and is pretty tasty.  The biscuits are damn good.  I am not that huge a fan of the beignets but they are good.

When in town, I will try and get to this conveniently located place once for breakfast, but I will plan for the ~30 minute wait for 2 on a sat  morn.

I got STRONG local recommendations for this place, and figured it would be just the thing for Sunday breakfast before heading home to SF. The food sounded, looked and tasted great - until we discovered a big, long, dark hair in the pile of potatoes that came along with the Eggs Benedict... I certainly realize that this can happen anywhere, but as it came along at the same time that we were realizing how sickeningly overstuffed we were after having eaten perhaps a third of our plates, it didn't sit well at all. We toddled off for a long slow walk and then made our way to the airport, feeling not well at all. By the time we arrived back home, it was clear that we were feeling the effects of more than a stray hair - something in that huge pile of breakfast had been off.

My recommendation would be to go for coffee and beignets (half order unless there are more than two of you), and MAYBE split one of the main plates. We arrived at 8am and didn't wait at all, but the crowd showed up moments later, and by 8:45 there were at least a dozen people waiting on the sidewalk.

Very good, authentic Cajun & Creole breakfast in Boulder.  Wow, I never thought I'd say that but, upon return to Boulder, I was finally introduced to the place.

I don't know how I missed it having lived their for 4 years (and being Cajun!), but I wish I had known there was a place to get great grits and beignets in Boulder.  Oh, well, now I know - just another excuse to visit...

A very rustic dining experience.
I have had breakfast here on a number of occasions and have enjoyed every visit.  Eggs, Grits, Beignets and coffee you could stand a spoon up in!  Who could ask for a more rounded breakfast?
I have usually visited as part of a group (5 people) and the layout of the old building combined with small tables and huge plates is just not conducive to a great time.
Another word of warning if you are going as a group, they will not seat you until all of your party are there!
A very Boulder experience, but i will be back.

YumYumYum. I grew up in New Orleans and this is the real thing. Do yourself a favor and have an amazing brunch here. It is great and well worth the wait.

Cajuns live to eat, not eat to live... which is exactly why this place is a must-stop in Boulder. Cajun country would be proud!

In Boulder, there are some good breakfast stops, but nothing as tasty as Lucile's. I mean, you can hit up the greasy spoon Villager, the eclectic Burnt Toast, the latin flair brunch at Centro, or the gourmet organic goodness of The Kitchen... but I will take Lucile's any day!

Here is why Lucile's delivers...

1. CHICORY COFFEE. Chicory root (some sort of flower) is ground and blended with the coffee to give the most delicious dark brew. Unique, local to New Orleans, and delicious!
2. BEIGNETS. Basically a cajun/french donut with a ton of powdered sugar... except a million times better than you can imagine! Served fresh and hot.....MMMM,
3. THE BISCUITS. Holy Dough Rising, these things are amazing! They're humongous, mouth watering, and top them off with the homemade jam and it is over!

IF you can make it this far... try one of these:

THE EGGS PONTCHARTRAIN or EGGS NEW ORLEANS.

OMG they are so good!

Both are eggs benedict, but the Pontchartrain is over fresh mountain trout. Oh man it's amazing. The Eggs New Orleans is over fried breaded eggplant.... lord have mercy!

If you can't tell, I love Lucile's! Definitely the best breakfast spot in Boulder.

Laissez les bons temps rouler !!

hands down best breakfast food ever. i find it impossible not to order the PERFECT eggs benedict with some cheesy grits. also some mean biscuits and gravy. i am from the dirty south and these grits are my favorite. whoever cooks their eggs is an expert and can poach an egg to the exact level of soft/medium/hard that you desire.

also, love the feel of the place - cajun breakfast in an old house with mismatched cloth scraps for napkins and staff that doesn't loiter or bug you, but is right on top of things. love it. i ALWAYS bring out of town guests here for brunch... and they ALWAYS leave happy.

Went there yesterday and finally waited with the throng outside for our precious table time.  I was impressed but I certainly expected to be with the Frankenstein lynch mob type crowd I see gathered outside every weekend morning.
Home squeezed orange juice is delicious.  So is the buttermilk biscuit and strawberry jam.  We ordered beignets (N.O. donuts) but alas, they never came.  Aside from that, the service was great.
I got the Eggs Pontchartrain which is 2 poached eggs, incredibly delicious home fried potatoes, and breaded, fried Mountain Trout covered with hollandaise.  It was good but I think the trout was unnecessary in that dish, the potatoes and the eggs really made the dish.
I would go back but its tough for me to wait 30-40 minutes for a table for 2 for breakfast.  I am a Foodzilla in the AM before I get my grub on!

My only weekend in Boulder (so far) really had me getting very picky about the 3 or so meals I would eat here. After tons of looking around (and research), it was good to see a busy place where people were hanging outside waiting for their tables. Lucile's - the small home-like restaurant that serves some of the best cajun/creole brunch I've eaten.

First thing I was asked when I sat down was, "Could I get you a beignet?" I couldn't start with it - but the coffee I started off with really woke me up. Beats them Starbucks folks. After tons of deliberation and looking around into other people's plates, I decided to go with the highly recommended special. It was a zucchini + tons of cheeses (feta, mozzarella, cream) omlette with a red pepper & tomato sauce. Fantastic. The awesome and huge buttermilk biscuit that came with it, even better.

This place has bigger plates than I could handle, so after half of it, I was done. But I wasn't done - it was time for that beignet I was saving a seat for. Out came a hot beignet, and dunked in the chicory coffee, it was just a perfect way to end the brunch. *sigh of satisfaction*

I also left with a couple of their Creole seasoning bottles, and some really good suggestions from the very helpful hostess (the friendly one who gets you seated, not the slightly brusque one who's mostly at the cash register). Definitely a place I would recommend, and visit any time I come to Boulder again.

You can find out 'most all you need to know about the food at Lucille's by perusing these other reviews and their menu online.  The food is so good, so good, so very good.  So marvelously good.

This is the original Lucille's.  Usually crowded but worth the wait.

Since my local relatives are currently out of town, and I had a bit of a Lucille's craving, I went there alone today.  I was lucky to be at a tiny 2-top next to some people having the most interesting scientific theory conversation ever!  Mitochondrial DNA,  the origin of the universe, string theory, and the meaninglessness of individual existence were some of their topics du jour.  I didn't even get a chance to read the newspaper.

Tables are intimately close to one another at Lucille's which was a joy on this particular day after Christmas.

Another neat thing about Lucille's:  a few of the waitpeople there have told me I am one of their favorite customers and they're glad I'm back.   I feel so loved here, and you know dining experiences can be impersonal, so it's nice when such experiences are warm and personal in a positive and comforting way.

Good food,  phenomenal service, and brain stimulating conversation even when dining alone--what more could I ask for?

Life is good.

We were hungry and just bumming around Boulder.  We stumbled upon this place and for sure thought it was amazing!

Timing must be everything, as we did not have to wait.  Although, talking to locals this is a hot spot and there are celeb that stop by (so we heard).  I understand why as it was tasty, the sausage choices were unique and spicy with flavor.  The beignets were good for not being in New Orleans, but memorable.

I would for sure go back.  Great brunch and lunch as we all ordered different things and shared!  Large portions.

This is one of my all time favorite places in Boulder.  The restaurant is in a converted house, which makes it cute and cozy.  Their giant, fluffy biscuits are to die for and are, in my opinion, the best part of any meal there.  This was one of my regular haunts when I was in college at CU, and I've never had a meal there I didn't like.  My favorite dishes are the various potato, egg, creole sausage dishes that are put together in a scramble.  The beignets are also heavenly as is the pain perdu, which is their take on french toast.  They also have the most amazing home made condiments.  My favorite is the ketchup, which is made in house and puts Heinz to shame.  My friends and family, however, swear by the preserves.

Lucile's is a Boulder favorite and is particularly crowded on weekends, but it's well worth the wait.

The one area in which Lucile's is lacking is accessibility.

The wait is worth it - the biscuits are as good as they say. I would give it 5 stars, but the beignets were not as flavorful as I expected and the hollandaise is good but not amazing. I had the fried mountain trout breakfast and I liked it. I eat a lot of brunch and have pretty high standards and I would return here when in Boulder again. They also have Irish oatmeal, which is great and unusual to find in a restaurant. The homemade jam is solid, the hot sauce is very good.

I used to live in Boulder, now I reside in NYC and I kick myself on occasion when I think of the food at Lucile's and I never tried the beignets....what a stupid decision on my part!

Anyway, the food here is awesome and when I'm back in the area in December I will certainly be standing in line, most likely with a smile on my face as I bite into my very first beignet! Then I will become even happier when I venture inside and have a bite of the fresh, steaming biscuit and the cajun dish with eggs and hot sauce!! This place is not to be missed while in Boulder.

I love canjun food and the food at Lucille's was good but nothing really to rave about. I went there for lunch and ordered the their turkey & andouille gumbo special of the day. I think it was a little over priced for what you get. The restaurant itself is very homely and seemed very crowded even though there wasn't a lot of people there. I ordered something to go and the guy taking my order asked me to wait outside while they prepped my food I was a little taken a back to say the least. But I will go back and try something else and maybe hopefully get a little better service.
