Went there yesterday and finally waited with the throng outside for our precious table time. I was impressed but I certainly expected to be with the Frankenstein lynch mob type crowd I see gathered outside every weekend morning.
Home squeezed orange juice is delicious. So is the buttermilk biscuit and strawberry jam. We ordered beignets (N.O. donuts) but alas, they never came. Aside from that, the service was great.
I got the Eggs Pontchartrain which is 2 poached eggs, incredibly delicious home fried potatoes, and breaded, fried Mountain Trout covered with hollandaise. It was good but I think the trout was unnecessary in that dish, the potatoes and the eggs really made the dish.
I would go back but its tough for me to wait 30-40 minutes for a table for 2 for breakfast. I am a Foodzilla in the AM before I get my grub on!

Definitely a must visit when in Boulder. Living in Boulder I had a Lucille's craving about once a year, because it's too rich for me to go more often. Interesting place to take visiting friends and family.
*My fav's: the chicory coffee, biscuits and jam, amazing Chef Mickey's sausage gravy, eggs Sardou, eggs Benedict - and you can't go wrong with anything they do with fish (eggs Pontchartrain...).
*the omelettes are overwhelming.
Cajuns live to eat, not eat to live... which is exactly why this place is a must-stop in Boulder. Cajun country would be proud!
In Boulder, there are some good breakfast stops, but nothing as tasty as Lucile's. I mean, you can hit up the greasy spoon Villager, the eclectic Burnt Toast, the latin flair brunch at Centro, or the gourmet organic goodness of The Kitchen... but I will take Lucile's any day!
Here is why Lucile's delivers...
1. CHICORY COFFEE. Chicory root (some sort of flower) is ground and blended with the coffee to give the most delicious dark brew. Unique, local to New Orleans, and delicious!
2. BEIGNETS. Basically a cajun/french donut with a ton of powdered sugar... except a million times better than you can imagine! Served fresh and hot.....MMMM,
3. THE BISCUITS. Holy Dough Rising, these things are amazing! They're humongous, mouth watering, and top them off with the homemade jam and it is over!
IF you can make it this far... try one of these:
THE EGGS PONTCHARTRAIN or EGGS NEW ORLEANS.
OMG they are so good!
Both are eggs benedict, but the Pontchartrain is over fresh mountain trout. Oh man it's amazing. The Eggs New Orleans is over fried breaded eggplant.... lord have mercy!
If you can't tell, I love Lucile's! Definitely the best breakfast spot in Boulder.
Laissez les bons temps rouler !!

The wife and I got up early Saturday morning to try out Lucile's, after seeing how much people enjoyed it on Yelp.
We got there around 9am, thinking that we would beat the crowd. We were mistaken -- there was already a 20 minute wait for a table for two! Thankfully, the food well made up for it.
Everything was right at Lucile's. The homey feel of the dining room, the painting of said dining room on the wall, the cotton rags used for napkins, and most importantly the food. We started off with the beignets, which were as delicious as fried dough and powered sugar should be. I had scrambled eggs and cheese grits, and even though its fairly simple fare, they were the best I've ever had (outside of the context of my own home). So many times, I've eaten at "true" Southern restaurants that do grits wrong, but these were properly thick and creamy -- not at all lumpy or watery. Wife had the Farmer's eggs (eggs, potatoes, peppers, sausage, & cheese scrambled together), which she reports being delicious and ridiculously filling (I didn't partake because I don't eat pork). And the biscuits! They were bigger than my fists, and very tasty. This breakfast sated me for the rest of the day.
Lucile's isn't your everyday 'bacon-and-eggs' breakfast spot (if I ate here everyday, I'd have a heart attack by 30). It is special. The food is wonderful. It was the best Southern-style breakfast my mom didn't make.

I love this place!!!
We came here for lunch today and were seated right away. This restaurant carried a very festive ambiance. We ordered their Monday lunch special, which was their BBQ shrimp over rice and it was absolutely delicious! The fiance is a big fan of bacon and decided to order a side of bacon as well. He absolutely loved it and thought it was one of the best bacon side dishes he's ever had. Our order came with a large piece of cornbread before our meal.
The service was great and our server did a wonderful job refilling our waters and checking up on us. Our dish was only $9.50 and it was enough to feed the both of us, along with 2 other side dishes we ordered. Our total bill was $15.00 for 2 people.
I highly recommend this place! And how often do you get to eat inside a cute victorian house?

This is one of my all time favorite places in Boulder. The restaurant is in a converted house, which makes it cute and cozy. Their giant, fluffy biscuits are to die for and are, in my opinion, the best part of any meal there. This was one of my regular haunts when I was in college at CU, and I've never had a meal there I didn't like. My favorite dishes are the various potato, egg, creole sausage dishes that are put together in a scramble. The beignets are also heavenly as is the pain perdu, which is their take on french toast. They also have the most amazing home made condiments. My favorite is the ketchup, which is made in house and puts Heinz to shame. My friends and family, however, swear by the preserves.
Lucile's is a Boulder favorite and is particularly crowded on weekends, but it's well worth the wait.
The one area in which Lucile's is lacking is accessibility.

You can find out 'most all you need to know about the food at Lucille's by perusing these other reviews and their menu online. The food is so good, so good, so very good. So marvelously good.
This is the original Lucille's. Usually crowded but worth the wait.
Since my local relatives are currently out of town, and I had a bit of a Lucille's craving, I went there alone today. I was lucky to be at a tiny 2-top next to some people having the most interesting scientific theory conversation ever! Mitochondrial DNA, the origin of the universe, string theory, and the meaninglessness of individual existence were some of their topics du jour. I didn't even get a chance to read the newspaper.
Tables are intimately close to one another at Lucille's which was a joy on this particular day after Christmas.
Another neat thing about Lucille's: a few of the waitpeople there have told me I am one of their favorite customers and they're glad I'm back. I feel so loved here, and you know dining experiences can be impersonal, so it's nice when such experiences are warm and personal in a positive and comforting way.
Good food, phenomenal service, and brain stimulating conversation even when dining alone--what more could I ask for?
Life is good.

Expect waits of at least 30 minutes, but it's always worth it. The chicory coffee. The jam. The corn bread. The jam. The entire front page of the menu.
You either won't be hungry for the rest of the day, or you'll go home with breakfast for tomorrow.
Mmmmmmmmm!

The hottest breakfast spot in Boulder without a doubt. Terrific creole cooking that always hits the spot. Plan to arrive early on the weekends as the waits can be long. Once seated service is super friendly and fast. Highlights for me include the eggs benedict, cajun breakfast and buttermilk biscuit. Menu items are available in half sizes which I often take advantage of.
Whenever I visit Boulder, Lucile's is a must for breakfast.
This place is by far the most delicious breakfast restaurants in Boulder. It's a hidden gem I was told about to a friend before I came to school here, and decided to try it with my boyfriend one morning. The wait was twenty minutes, so get there early!! But the food gets to your table practically right after you order it. the waitresses/waitors are busy but helpful.
It's very creole style and a fun place to go on a sunday morning breakfast or whenever. Haven't been there for dinner or lunch, but I've seen the meal and I'm sure it's fantastic.
A little pricy, but you get your money's worth with the food delivered. You MUST get the beignets, they're so so so so good. Totally worth the calories in every way. Biscuits are yummy too.
Go, and enjoy! :-)

First off, arriving early on a Saturday is a good thing but, don't let them seat you anywhere near the kitchen entrance if you want to hear each other speak because numerous pots and pans being tossed into stainless sinks or dishwashers creates the worst f@ckin pain in your head on a Saturday morning that you can imagine. I didn't pay attention at first but eventually it wore on me. But on to the food...
The beignets were very good (but I think the lid may have fallen off of the powdered sugar shaker because instead of being dusted, they were avalanched, buried, sugar was falling off of the sides of the plate covered). Love the chickory coffee. I asked the waitress for some picks and she recommended the Hank's Eggs and the Eggs Jennifer which I regretfully ignored and ordered the Cajun Breakfast and the wife ordered the Eggs New Orleans. The Eggs New Orleans were the winners of that order and for us definitely the potatoes over the grits. Now for the bad news. My order wasn't good. The red beans served with my Cajun Breakfast tasted three days old and re-warmed without enough liquid being added back in (or cooked on the stove and left in an oven to overcook and dry out). The menu mentions meat in the beans but I couldn't even discern that this was at one time whole beans let alone there being another protein mixed in. The grits were too thin and LUKE-WARM! the butter pat just sat on top until I pushed it aside to splash the heck out of them kiss-my-grits with the hot sauce.
I've got a bad feeling that I'm jinxed not to get a good meal at a Yelp highly rated restaurant :(
Thank god for the all the other plusses like the MOnster tender biscuits, the always full coffee cup (attentive staff), the beignets, my wife's breakfast, I'll be back a little wiser hopefully to enjoy the blissful breakfast I had envisioned.

I used to live in Boulder, now I reside in NYC and I kick myself on occasion when I think of the food at Lucile's and I never tried the beignets....what a stupid decision on my part!
Anyway, the food here is awesome and when I'm back in the area in December I will certainly be standing in line, most likely with a smile on my face as I bite into my very first beignet! Then I will become even happier when I venture inside and have a bite of the fresh, steaming biscuit and the cajun dish with eggs and hot sauce!! This place is not to be missed while in Boulder.

Amazing breakfasts that are well worth the wait. I lived in Louisiana as a kid and the cuisine offered at Lucile's is truly authentic. FYI--the Lucile's in Longmont is equally wonderful and has less of a wait...
some damn good breakfast to be had here. I've had pretty much everything on the menu over the years, so far I've like everything, which is saying something.
Get in early, it gets crowded easily.
One of my very favorite breakfast spots in Boulder! Absolutely not to be missed!! (And little known fact- they also have super delicious lunch!
First off, beware of the lines on weekends- hit it up for a weekday breakfast unless you enjoy a healthy wait. I waited tables here back in the day, so I know the menu like the back of my palm, and I know what goes down in the kitchen and I would continue to frequent it all the time if only I still resided in Boulder.
DO NOT SKIP THE BEIGNETS!! The OJ is fresh squeezed, the Chai Lattes are delicious and I LOVE LOVE the biscuits and cornbread. I love all of the egg dishes, particularly Hank's eggs. I also love the atmosphere, a cute little Victorian house- sit out on the porch if you can- and the waitstaff is super friendly. Oh how I miss you Lucile's!!

When I leave Boulder, this will be the one place I'll miss. Most likely, you'll have to wait for a table, but it's worth it from their homemade ketchup and jams to the best darned beignets outside of NOLA. You'll hum while eating.
I visited twice for breakfast in four days on a recent business trip!
Wed 8/29 - 1/2 order of Beignets, coffee, and Eggs Pontchartrain (Fresh pan-fried mountain trout, poached eggs, barnaise sauce; served with cheese grits and a biscuit.). Hit the eggs and fish with the homemade hot sauce and you'll be done for... great homemade apple butter for either your biscuit or beignet. About $15 + tip.
Fri 8/31 - Beignets, coffee, juice, and Eggs Sardou (Creamed spinach, Gulf shrimp, poached eggs and hollandaise; served with potatoes and a buttermilk biscuit). Friends both had the Farmer's Eggs. All three of us raved about the meal.
Two of best breakfasts I've had in a long, long, time...

The food is great but the portions are way too large for me. The food is pretty heavy, which makes it great for an every-once-in-a-while splurge.
Lucile's is good for your whole body : heart, soul and stomach.
I had Beignets, the Orleans special (poached eggs over grilled eggplant with a spicy red sauce) a HUGE biscuit, and chicory coffee- Outstanding, as usual. I love the jams they have, they always have that rhubarb one that's so sweet and tart and perfect with a buttery biscuit.
My friend Lisa had the Ponchartrain Trout, she said hers was excellent as usual too. W only waited 15 mins which is a new record on a Saturday morning- hands down this is the best breakfast place ever- the only better one is the Luci's in Longmont, and that's only because they don't have as long of a wait and parking is free.
Parked in front of the Boulderado - we had no trouble finding parking at 9:30 am - this place isn't a cheapo greasy spoon either, bring some cash 'cause you'll spend $20 for breakfast, but really it's lunch too since you're so full you can't eat until dinner. Yay for Lucile's!!
Lucile's was...uh, incredibly awesome. There really isn't too much more to say about it....
----
Ok, fine...pushy aren't we:
1:Homemade apricot and apple butter
2:Their hot sauce was seriously awesome: not so hot as flavorful, which is where it is at
3: Good vegetarian options. The eggs Jennifer was excellent
4: The French Coffee was amazingly tasty
5: The old house setting works pretty well. The huge windows let in a lot of light
6: The service was good.
The crowd? I was wondering where the twenty somethings that graduated but hadn't left boulder yet (sounds familiar) were hanging out. Now I know.
Alas, New Orleans...alas! (Republican) Government didn't fund your levies so now you are still screwed?
We lost a lot more than a city when New Orleans went under....

Lucile's is without peer when it comes to breakfast. I love their creole omelet and their beignets make me weak in the knees. Their homemade strawberry rhubarb jam goes good with anything, and my girlfriend is nuts about their Eggs Jennifer (a delicious vegetarian version of Eggs Benedict with spinach).
I've experimented at times with the Pain Perdu (New Orleans french toast), their homemade granola and their egg dishes, but for me its all about the creole omelet--spicy sausage and ham in creole sauce tucked inside a flipped rather than rolled omelet (served without cheese, which suits me fine) with potatoes and biscuit.
I'm not a fan of grits. I've heard people rave about their grits. I've tried them, and it's just not for me. I'll stick with my potatoes. They also make a delicious homemade chai tea. They make a homemade spice tea as well, but it's a bit too strong with the cinnamon.
I've been to two Lucile's locations--the ones in Boulder and Steamboat Springs. The food was equally good at the Steamboat Springs location, but the setting just couldn't compare. I'm sure the other locales are fine as well, but nothing compares to the original in Boulder--a house that's been converted into a restaurant. Nothing beats waiting outside for your name to be called, knowing what delights await when your table opens.

I always visit Lucille's when I'm in Boulder, always, always, always. Cajun cooking at it's best. Chicory coffee, red beans and eggs, or creamed spinach and eggs, farmers eggs. We freak on this place! I wish NYC had a place like this because when you hanker for a hearty N'olins style breakfast in the afternoon, nothing will do but Lucille's. I definitely wouldn't take my vegetarian friends here though because it's fairly heavy on the meat. Service is good, nice staff, beautiful old victorian style house, too. Highly recommended.
This is hands down my favorite brunch spot in the U.S. I went to college in Boulder and this was my Saturday morning haunt. My order stayed the same all three years. I walked in....immediately started with coffee and asked for my biscuit (this thing is a whopper, but totally fluffy and awesome. When the biscuit hit the table I would break it in half and slather it with butter. Then one half got the beautiful rhubarb jam and the other side got honey. I always ordered the Eggs Sardou with no shrimp (b/c they are the little guys) and instead got extra creamed spinach and cheesy grits with my eggs sunny side up. When this hit the table I went to work breaking open my eggs and letting everything meld together. I hit it all with hot sauce and went to my happy place.
Note. Sometimes this order would include beignets if my bf of the year decided to come along or anyone else I dragged with me. Also...Lucile's does half orders so for those of you who are not a fan of the food coma go ahead and ask...its not on the menu but they do it.
I have Lucile's withdrawals all the time and will have to make trips to Boulder in the future probably partially for the fact that this gem beckons.
Also in the summer, Lucile's patio can't be beat...go after 1:30 to beat the rush and fritter away the afternoon sipping coffee or anything else you fancy.
Delicious. The food here is great and the service, seating, and price is all good. I still prefer the one in Denver to the one in Boulder just because its a little closer to home and the drinks seem to flow a little easier, plus its just got that something special.
Eating at Lucile's is like having breakfast at grandma's house (that is, if my grandmother could cook like the chefs at Lucile's). The food is always comforting, and comes in huge portions. The atmosphere is colorful, filled with conversation, and has a really cozy feel. Lucile's is located in a beautiful Victorian-esque house on 14th street between Spruce and Pine in Boulder. Every time my husband and I visit Lucile's, we always end up waiting at least 20 minutes. The wait is 100% worth it, though, because the food is delicious. The beignets are the best I've tried, save Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. The chai tea is amazing, with either soy or milk. The grits are authentic, and never chunky or gummy. The biscuits are HUGE and buttery. My husband and I usually split an entree because they're so huge (and we always order the beignets, too, which come in huge portions). I've never been disappointed at Lucile's, and I recommend it to everyone!
Best bets: Chai, beignets, biscuits, grits, any of the entrees!

Love this place. When I lived in Boulder, this is where we would always go with the out-of-towners' for b'fast. They have wonderful beignets and eggs sardou - it's all creole food. They also do half orders on certain dishes which I appreciate.
The only thing that I don't particularly like is that it's so crowded that it tends to have tight quarters. That's the only reason that it received 4 stars instead of 5!
I think this place is awesome. Positive, energetic atmosphere plus great food.
Lucile's is a must go when in Boulder. Seriously, this place is so quaint - like you're going over to someone's house for breakfast!
I used to take all my visitors to Lucile's and everyone *really* liked the experience. Great food (unless you don't like eggs or cajun) and the service is friendly and excellent.
Jam. Jam. Jam. Can I say it any more? Get toast or a biscuit, and then eat that jam they put on each table. You can almost skip breakfast this stuff is so good.
Lucile's is insanely popular in Boulder for good reason - old style Southern charm practically oozes out from the old house that hosts the restaurant. Biscuits, homemade jam and ketchup, gumbos, creamed spinach, andouille sausage, decadent praline waffles, chickory coffee....basically it's the Big Easy in Boulder, and it's pretty damn authentic.
Cajun food in Colorado! Cajun's not really my favorite or it would have gotten 4 stars easily. Right off the main drag in a great converted house with nice porch and lots of cozy rooms. I was there for lunch, but apparently hugely popular for weekend breakfast.
i went to luciles for the first time when i was 5.
i ordered beignets then, and i order beignets now.
oh my god amazing.
try the strawberry rhubarb jam.
you will die.
delicious.

personally, i like to go for both. at the same time. i like to leave luciles feeling to full and slightly nauseas. in a good way. no, really. i like it . a lot.
