I love the Upper West Side, and this hotel is close to some of the best little restaurants and bakeries (Levain's cookies, anyone?) It's within easy walking distance to Lincoln Center.

The rooms are incredibly spacious, and the staff is friendly.

The only remotely off-putting thing is the really loud, really early '80s soft rock/love songs blaring in the common areas (which only gave me flashbacks to junior high dances.)

Wonderful, clean hotel. My mother stays here every time she comes to the city. Hotel staff is very courteous, friendly, and helpful. Excellent location on the UWS.

I wish I could give 4.5 stars.  You simply can't beat the location of this hotel--a short block to the subway and a long block to the Museum of Natural History.  The room was small but clean and the staff was friendly.  The only problem we had was that the housekeeper kept taking away our cups and not replacing them.  I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Love this hotel and will stay again. Friendly, accomodating and polite staff, including the doormen and housekeeping. Beautiful decor, respectable, clean. Room had a safe, no mini fridge, which most hotels offer at this price, wifi, heater and a/c, and a nice clean bathroom.  Location is fabulous, wine bar across the street, excellent restaurants, a couple blocks from Central Park, the Met, Natural History Museum, and the subway stop is one block away.

My favorite hotel in NY.  Close to the subway and  lots of lovely neighborhood restaurants.  Only a block from the American Museum of Natural History.   Walking distance from midtown if you're a walker. The hotel is comfortable, the staff is friendly.

We used to stay here years ago when it was a bit rundown, but still comfortable.  Then they renovated the place and the prices went too high for us.  But, with the recession, the prices have come down to earth - we stayed last weekend and it was a delight - really nice and quite reasonable, for NY.

My parents stay here most of the time when they visit New York.  It's a great location on the Upper West Side and is comfortable, clean, well-run, and well-maintained.   Not a 5-star-er, but catches the charminess (which is different than charm) of the neighborhood very well.  Very beautiful pre-war building that could be historic one day.

However, as with most New York spaces, the rooms are fairly small yet the prices are still high, though not Times Square high.  Only other real hotel option nearby in the UWS is the Excelsior, which is right across from the Museum of Natural History Hayden Planetarium.

My company puts me up here whenever I travel to NYC.  I like this hotel.  It's a nice boutique-type place with pretty rooms and flat screen tvs, although not as nice as the Kimpton hotels.  The sheets are high thread count and soft, the towels are plentiful, the toiletries are good quality, and the coffee in the room is good.

The front desk staff is polite and helpful and the location is great and an easy walk to my office.  I love the neighborhood and it's always a pleasant stay.

Friendly staff and extremely helpful, located in a very nice area, clean hotel and rooms...only 1 problem though - no mini fridge. I ended up using the air condition as my water bottle cooler.

The Lucerne is a solid boutique-style hotel.  Staff was very friendly.  My room was clean, cozy and equipped with the essentials (i.e., flat-screen lcd, wifi, comfy bed).  All in all, a good value for the money.  Send your parents here when they visit.

The Lucerne Hotel is a clean, well run, turn-of-the-century brownstone hotel located on the Upper West Side. I believe, years ago,  it was used as dorm rooms for the Barnard girls. Anyway,  I stayed here by default due to my favorite UWS hotel (I like staying closer to the park) being totally booked up. I guess the caveat is... this is a budget hotel so don't stay if you have to over pay.

The Lucerne surprised me, although I shouldn't have been at the rate.  It is well located on the Upper West Side, with respectable rooms that feel well made.  The turndown service was excellent, and the bed is comfortable, although they don't use a fitted bottom sheet, which is a pet peeve of mine.  However, for the quick traveler, it is an excellent hotel.

This is a nice hotel, with quaint, cozy rooms.  The location on 79th and Amsterdam is great.  It's surrounded by great places to eat, is near the subway, but isn't touristy.

I liked it at the Lucerne....it's not extravagant, but cute and cozy.  The staff was really nice and it's conveniently located to a bunch of stuff.  :)
