I've lived in the Sunset for about a year and this is my favorite liquor store to go to. It has a great selection of drinks and candy. Their sandwiches are a big staple in my house as well. Their meatball and chicken tender ones are a favorite of my girlfriend and I.
The staff has always been friendly and I love their hours. When Walgreens is closed, I can always count on Lucca's to be open to get my late night snack fix. :) -

Great sandwiches and the selection of snacks at this store is amazing! Cookies, candies, chocolates. Foreign stuff too!
Had the italian and pesto on dutch crunch. Meat's fresh, bread's moist, and the toppings are delicious.
Parking sucks but you won't be staying inside long (there's no place to sit). We grabbed and went on our day trip to the california academy of sciences. -

Lucca's online sammie prices are about a dollar understated. just saying. didn't look online before ordering. the deli section is on the right side as you enter. only one guy was making sammies.
eats: hot pastrami and cheese(choose provolone and dutch crunch)5.99
-not a lot of meat, provolone not tasted. only bread stood out.
-sammie warmed in pizza type oven.
-meats and cheeses sliced to order.
-sammie about average.
crumbs:
-not entire sammie warmed
-boar's head, evergood, and harvest meats used.
-other choices available on this street.
-steady, courteous service. -

I moved to the sunset half a year ago & this is the first place i got a sandwich from.
THE BOMB! the wheat rolls are the best i had (sourdough doesn't fall far behind) A cool little spot out in the outer sunset -

OK....SO, I desperately don't want to leave this review based on the deli, because of course, as everyone else states, the sandwiches are great. I've lived in the neighborhood for over a year and frequented the place for not just the food but the liquor. I am writing because of the shady-ness...
I noticed it after a while and I'm sure it was going on LONG before I noticed it! The owner would sneak in the extra cost for cheese on the tuna when I didn't get cheese and eventually I finally noticed it because I would catch him ringing up my shit and call him out on it. Eventually, it turned into other items such as the chips would be on sale and he would try to rip me off and I'd point him out and he'd apologize. Blah blah, same story every time. I definitely get ticked off my husband goes back there because I WILL NOT any more because of this shit. I cannot stand insincere business. Ripping people off is NOT how you run a business. HONEST business people especially when there is another liquor store selling the same shit a few doors down...ONLY difference, they don't have a deli!
If you plan on going back for just sandwiches, watch when you get run up AND look up the prices before you get rung up at the register!!!!!! You can get the rest of the shit at the store at the other liquor store a few doors down and they have NEVER ripped me off!! -

Meatloaf sandwich was just meh. Nothing special. Considering the quality, it really isn't that cheap either.

It was late in the night and my BF and I were looking for some wine and beer. We had abandoned all hope of any place being opened (except for a bar, but we weren't in the mood for that) and we find that this spot was still open. We figured we'd get something basic but as we walk in, we come to find a pretty good selection. So here's to you Lucca, for having a great selection of alcoholic beverages.

Had the chicken salad sandwich. It wasn't anything special. I asked the guy to cut the crust off. He had a hard time understanding what I meant, so instead he cut the sandwich in half. SMH

I used to come here a lot until i was sold a quart of milk for 5 dollars. I brought it back as soon as i looked at my change. Sure they exchanged it, but i had this weird feeling that the guy at the counter knew what he was doing. As soon as i walked back into the store he knew exactly why i came back. He apologized but it never felt sincere. it felt like i was doing him a disservice.
Anyways if you come here don't buy beer, wine, or spirits. Handy Deli on the same block has a better selection and prices. Everyone there is awesome too. -

Awesome. Wonderful. Fantastic. Dope. Killer.
All of these words describe my sandwich.
I got the pastrami with sharp cheddar on dutch crunch and a side of potato salad. Simply delicious... and they don't skimp on the good stuff!
Service was quick and efficient, while being friendly at the same time.
Also, I feel its noteworthy to mention this place has an impressive beer selection. If you have read some of my other reviews, you know I'm a huge beer fan. Lets just say I would come here often if I lived in the area. -
Review from Leana L.
This place is awesome! I recently discovered I love corner markets! The employee behind the counter is usually super cool and really nice. This place is no exception. We grabbed some drinks to accompany our pizza from down the street.
The girls I went with knew the employee really well and introduced us. We asked what alcoholic beverage would go well with a pizza and he started pulling out bottles of Smirnoff. Four to be exact - one for each of us. Hahahaha. He put them back and then walked over to grab is some watermelon beers from the fridge wall.
We took them back and popped em open. They were delicious! Nice and refreshing!
Apparently they have really good sandwiches here, too. For about $4 you can get a tasty lunch and you can get it hot anytime before 4pm (I think that's what they said...).
So excited for the possibility of making this my new corner market! -
Review from Chanel L.
I was craving a dutch crunch avocado with sprouts sandiwch and found Lucca on yelp. Sandwiches are huge and def filling. I even shared my sandwich with another.
They pulled out the vegetables from the fridge, green and fresh. Also, grabbed a chunk of turkey and cut it/ sawed it front of me. I haven't had sandwich meat prepared like that in a long time.
My vegetable sandwich with turkey was only $7.50, added a Heineken beer and a bag of flamin hot lays = a perfect dinner!
I will be back! -

Thank you Yelp for this spot for sandwiches!
Got a hot sandwich (pastrami and cheese) on a dutch crunch. They dont skimp on the meat but the only thing was that they ran out of provolone cheese ( which is not a big deal for me). The lady apologize but i just ordered american instead.
During the " nice lady"making my sandwich they were 2 other customers at the counter. Seems they are regulars at this place because they seems know the owner and the staffs. The staffs here are very nice.
Good sandwich and I also got a slice of their chocolate cake---yumm!!!
Will definitely come back!!! -

Went to sf for outsidelands. While hanging out at a local dive bar across the street decided to check this place out. I was blown away! Great sandwiches and for a great price. Needless to say my friends and I went back the next day and grabbed some lunches for the festival.

Yay for sandwiches!!!!!!! They are so yummy. This place is like a traditional Ike's. Great amazing bread. Meat and cheese cut fresh for each sandwich. Fresh veggies that actually taste like vegetables.
Most importantly they make a=sandwiches until midnight. And if you stumble off the N with a full bladder late night to get a sandwich on the way home, they are chivalrous enough to let you use the bathroom.
Nice people, great food, cheap prices, and close to my house. Ahh ya! SO GOOD! -

Lucca is THE liquor store/deli in the Inner Sunset .
Great staff, best prices locally, neighborhood folks, yet right off 19th Ave. and Irving Street. Conveniently located right by Golden Gate Park and 19th Avenue.
Awesome regulars, open late, later then some flaky spots in this area.
The guys at Lucca will do you up right!
BAM!
Hot dogs on the 4th! -

This place is pretty good. I love the deli. The sandwiches are great, but they do take their time making them. The meat is fresh and the bread is is good especially the dutch crunch. My friends and I always go through all the displays of European candy while waiting for our sandwiches. This place is good, but the people that work there can be a little weird.
Oh and on July 4th, they give out free hot dogs! -

Come in to say hello to Sam, Ken, and Billy. They are the best. But my gift to you my friends: Tim Tam. You can get it HERE.
Also, their chocolate cake is one of their best kept secret. After being tempted for many years I finally asked Sam if it was worth trying. He didn't even think twice and said it was his best seller.
I've been buying a slice every week since then. My guilty pleasure: Whiskey and cake. Thanks guys! -

Good Lord are these sandwiches huge! My Italian sub was piled so high with meat and veggies that it was nearly impossible to eat. Great location one block from Golden Gate Park makes it super easy (if you can find parking) to grab some sandwiches and head to the park for a picnic. Awesome beer selection as well. I've found my new favorite sandwich place when I'm in the Sunset.

Read about this place on yelp. Had the hot roast beef club for $5.50. It was large and delicious, with plenty of freshly sliced roast beef! I pass this place pretty frequently and couldn't believe I hadn't tried it.
I will be back to try several other sandwiches that caught my eye. -

San Francisco, CA
I'm proud to have had the opportunity to call this my local deli. The sandwiches are great, even better if Billy is the one making them. Sandwiches range from $4-6 making them a great and tasty value.
The owner prides himself on keeping a steady stream of craft label beers in the freezer, and he doesn't disappoint. For alcohol, sandwiches, or drinks I'd suggest you go here.
One caveat though; I bought cheese from this place once and it had expired months before. I guess they don't get much traffic in their dairy section, but to leave spoiled product out and available is a testament to what they consider fundamental to their business and what they consider worthless. -
Review from Gajan K.
Awesome little sandwich shop/convenient store right on the corner of Irving and 20th. Whenever I'm craving a sandwich, even late at night, I can always count on these guys for one. The best part is the cheap prices. I got a really good sized Chicken Teriyaki sandwich for a mere 5 bucks. Now that's a deal!!! They even offer Dutch Crunch bread for those of you who are like me and are now obsessed with this bread.
The service here is fantastic too. I will admit that when I came here, I was craving a Chicken Tender sandwich and was very disappointed when they told me they ran out. But to make up for it, they hooked me up with some extra chicken when I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki sandwich. Score!!! No matter how many people are in line or how late it can get, they always have a smile on and serve you happily. Gotta love it! -

San Francisco, CA
Love this place. It is my regular lunch spot. Great sandwiches at a reasonable price (~$4-6) and great selection of beer too. I love the Italian Combo, but every sandwich I've had has been good. While you wait for a sandwich you can check out their variety of beers or European candies, watch some futbol on the TV, or just chat with the owner (or whoever is working there). Everyone is super friendly.

The guy that's on the phone a lot is hella cool.

Okay, I am really slipping on my review writing.
I love Lucca's I'd have to say it is one the places in this neighborhood that really ties the community together. Everyone at Lucca's is so nice, they always say 'hi', ask you who you're doing, etc.
There's so much I could say but if I don't stop now this could be a ridiculously LONG review!! -

From the outside, this looks like your standard corner store: slightly overpriced market items but has a wide variety of drinks and beers.
The deli is where this place routinely shines- 2-3x a week I will come here for a freshly made, decently sized sandwich complete with all the toppings I want on a french or dutch roll for $5. -

Kinder eggs and other European fine confections are available at Lucca. I highly recommend Kinder eggs as a dessert/conversation & fun maker for dinner parties.....probably the toys offered in Cracker Jacks back in the day were once as cool as the treasures (assembly usually required) inside of a chocolate Kinder Surprise Egg but you know the Germans still have it going on whereas here in 'merica our candy sucks.
Lots of British packaged food too, so if you need Spotted Dick in a can or Salad Cream they'll set you up. -

I usually come here to buy those baby Hen bottles (you know...the personal sized ones. They're so cute!) or when I'm craving junk food. Lots of chips, candy, ice cream and alcohol to choose from! Its nice working close by.
They also serve sandwiches here. Even though they're pretty cheap, I'm still traumatized from the first and last time I had one. I remember this mean lady who made my sandwich. She wore these gloves to prepare my sandwich (which is a good thing). HOWEVER she didn't bother taking them off as she collected money from me! On top of that, her gloves were all nasty and shit. Ugh. Gross. What? I'm a germophobe. But I guess I'll have to come back one and give their sandwich one more chance. The other workers here are always very nice. =P -

When I moved to San Francisco, I knew I was in for some new and exciting divey-food joints to frequent, but I didn't expect that Italian-style sandwich counters would be one of them. I mean, I just figured Subway/Quizno's had it covered (Ah, those naive and suburban days). Yet it seems like I'm always going to these sort of places now. And that half of them are named Lucca.
Actually, Lucca has a lot more in common with Roxie than with Little Lucca, as it's sort of a corner liquor/convenience store that also serves sandwiches.
But be warned: they stop serving hot sandwiches at 4 PM. I learned this the hard way (and the whole reason I came after work instead of before was so I could eat it hot--true, I could do weekend lunch, but those are in short supply). Anyway, dutch crunch may be the queen of sandwich breads, but it's utterly lifeless when unheated. Fortunately I was able to salvage things nicely with my toaster.
Still, if you were to go into Roxie's at 6 PM, you'd not only get a hot sandwich, but a long line of customers. It also seems like they have more variety there, and more dedicated sandwich-makers. In short, they're more hard-core.
My suggestion: if you're in the Outer Sunset and get a sandwich craving, give the Banh Mi at Irving Cafe a try instead.Listed in: Mid-Outer Sunset

San Francisco, CA
Is it just me, or is Miller High Life better in a 40 than it is any other way, even in the 32oz variety? I know, I know, I'm not supposed to like High Life at all, but we have a history.
Let's look back a bit, to 2004. Republicans controlled Congress; milkshakes brought boys to all manner of yards. Eric Steele and his camera crew were camped out somewhere near Fort Point accumulating the footage that would become The Bridge, and further down south, at the bottom of the Mission, a broke, unemployed young man could find a cheap sublet. And that was me.
I had almost no possessions. I had almost no money. My days were split between reading physics texts in the library and blanketing the city in unimpressive job applications. And in the evenings? Not a lot of options; what few friends I had were all off doing things I couldn't afford to do.
There was a liquor store a block from my apartment. There's a liquor store a block from everyone's apartment, I've come to realize, but this one was a block from mine. They had two dollar High Life forties there; Mike, the guy I sublet from, actually used that as one of the main selling points of the place, and I quickly understood why. The mean, crazy Bulgarian couple who I lived with, the loud sounds from the street, the army of cockroaches so great it could have evicted us on a whim; for two dollars, these things could be tolerated.
I moved back to San Diego, by way of my Mom's basement in Boise, after things hit the fan out here. They don't have High Life in forties down there, or at least, not anywhere I could find. Just 32's. Those get you exactly four-fifths of the way into the horrible depths of being. They are okay. I would get them often anyway. My cool friends would criticize, that I should get real beer, whatever the prize. My insecure friends would just get embarrassed when I bought it.
When I returned to San Francisco, and not in much triumph, I was pleased to return to the forties as well. They are handsome. They are stately. And, for some inexplicable reason, they taste better. They taste like kissing tears from the cheeks of an angel. And it's true, they cost between $2.30 and $2.75 now, depending on where you go. But I am not such a poor man these days, and though the part of me that will always count cents notices, and cringes, I cannot say it bothers me.
I stepped into Lucca's today seeking a late-night drink. They have been good to me before; you can get a handle of Morgan's for $30, which is very reasonable in the world of liquor stores. And their selection of other, none boozy stuff is ample enough. Plus the guys behind the counter talk to everybody like a person, which leads me to suspect that they haven't been doing this for very long. But it is still appreciated.
I considered my options, contemplating the selection of alcohols carefully, not too impressed but not expecting much. As a wealthier man must feel at the only brothel in town, looking over its living menu... Eventually I settled on the High Life 40, for its history and whatnot. I had been comparing prices, but there were none marked here. But so what? I am not such a poor man any more, I remind myself, that I must worry about the prices of forties.
I bring it up to the cashier. There is one person in line: He buys two packs of condoms, and the clerk makes some joke about his implicit sexual prowess which I don't quite understand. I am grinning politely, the obligation of the man who has overheard, as I come up to make my purchase. "Two something," is all he says, except the something is not the word, just something unintelligible. Exactly what I expected; but as he hands me back eighteen dollars, I check the cash register. Two, just two. The "something" he said must have just been "dollars", and I go slack-jawed. The thing in me that still counts the cents is rejoicing. The cashier seems to notice a little and seems inquisitive, but I shuffle off before he can inquire. It is something too much of a story to tell. -

I work half a block from this great place. I love their sandwiches. Hot or cold? Your choice. They make it fresh and right in front of you.
The people working here are always friendly and nice. I usually chit chat with them about Life and the meaning of it. Yea right, we usually talk about beer because they have a wide selection of it. They open late so if you are hankering for a small bottle of smirnoff, this is the place to be.
Go try their sandwiches, cuz I once bribed this chick that I will get her one from Lucca, if she brushed my teeth in bed and wash my feet while I watched TV. It works! Works better than diamonds and designer handbags!
Another sandwich? What will you do for me? -

When you walk into a liquor store- you expect what you get it- shady cheap booze, lotto tickets, and maybe a halo of questionability/hobo-ishness when you walk out with that "winners cup" vodka in a brown paper bag. Lucca my friends, trumps this in about every way.
Not only do these fine people sell all your favorite charcoal-filtered fun, but they do it in a friendly way. In fact, they seem to know my name- how? I don't know (maybe i'll put the blame squarely on said charcoal filtered swill).
In addition, they have super-tasty boars head coldcuts (perfect for my panini making addiction) at HALF the price of Adronicos (aka skrillonicos) a couple blocks down the street.
And finally- what gets them the vaunted 5 star rating? Two words kiddoes: Kinder Eggs. Nuff said. -

Oh Lucca, you were so good to me. Remember all those late nighters we spent together. I...drunk, you...open, begging me to come in and purchase your sweet sustinance. Your sandwiches were always good (before midnight) and I could never get enough of your employees. Especially the night when we got to go behind the counter and play keyboard on the sandwich boards...now that was fun!
You were always good for a cheep bottle of Crown and a hershey-almond bar! -
Review from Jeremy L.
Sandwiches? That's something you can make on your own, right? Just meat, cheese and bread? Yeah, only if you feel like making one. Get someone else to construct a piece of food art that looks and taste great has to have it's unique twist or fresh ingredients with plenty of choices. I can say one thing for sure, it's not a Subway thing.
I've tried Lucca's sandwiches from time to time and I love the choices they have on the menu. Portion size is adequate for a lunch meal, so don't expect belly busting sandwiches. Prices for each sandwich is dependent on what you're ordering. Standard fare for a ham sandwich on a soft roll is about $5 and up to almost $10 for the hot sandwiches.
Which one to try? It's up to you. There are plenty to choose from and I do have trouble choosing some times. In terms of a deli, Lucca's is good, but sandwiches, in my opinion, has to stand out in outrageous ways before I can say it's worth more than three stars. -

My sister lives up the street on Judah & 20th and she's been raving about this place since she moved there last Fall. We spent last weekend at her place so we decided to check out some of the places she frequents...one of them being Lucca's.
I had the 'Italian Combo' on Sourdough Roll. You can't beat the classic combination of Genoa Salame, Mortadella, Provolone and I also had them add some Prosciutto. Delicious is an understatement. Next time, I think I'll try their signature Pesto sandwich, with your choice of 2 meats.
Another great little treat we had was their Baklava. It had a Pistachio filling that was too die for! My wife loved it so much, we bought 6 more just to take home!
Lucca's is a great little Deli on the corner of a bustling little street. If you're in the mood for a good deli sandwich, you gotta hit this place up!
