It gets an extra star because it is right around the block from me.
Basic MSG Chinese. I love this place. No frills, just cheap and tasty chinese favorites. They actually do have an extensive menu so you can order beyond egg drop soup and cashew chicken. Try the mini eggrolls, you won't be dissapointed. They aso have Thai selections. They are BYOB and don't charge a corkage fee. Last time I brought a case of beer and the waitress brought out a shovel-full of ice and threw it on top of the beers for us.
Take a date here and see if she ever talks to you again.
M-F for lunch is great too: For around $5.95 you get a pop, soup, eggroll, and entree. For under $6 in Chicago!!

When I lived in Chicago this was one of my go-to spots..
Just great Thai food. Cheap and extremely tasty.
I usually get:
1 Chicken Pad Thai
1 Pad Se Eiw with Beef
1 Lad Nar with Beef
and sometimes a Catfish in the Clay Pot, all extermely spiced out.
Their Pad Thai is different from most other Thai restaurants. It's real good, I like the tofu they add in it. Their Pad Se Eiw and Lad Nar are just fantastic...
The service is always good, and the hostess (owner) is extremely friendly and just really cool. I see her around sometimes in Chinatown or hanging out in the Northside, just a very cool person...and that always adds to a restaurants arsenal.
If you like thai food this is definitely a place to check out...The food's great, affordable, tasty, (optional spice)....
and it's really cheap...
My only issue is that parking is a little hard on Ashland. There are two spots in the back of the restaurant but it's only two spots...
Good Shit.
Hard to find good fried rice in the city. I found a pretty good spot.
whoever posted above 2 stars have no idea on what asian food cuisine is supposed to taste like. trust me on this one. i live very close and have tried almost every dish simply because of the convenience. food is not bad, but its really not that good either. just edible to tell you the truth. and im not the most pickiest eater either.
i do highly recommend their fried rice #26. that dish is prob one of the best fried rice ive tried in chicago but everything else is very mediocre
I have been eating here since 1997. This is one of the best Thai places in Chicago. They have unique dishes you won't find anywhere else, most notably the Kao Pad Thai fried rice , which is probably the tastiest fried rice I have ever had. And it's red. The place is no frills but the staff is nice. And yes, the prices are very low. You shouldn't just try it, you should make a habit of it.
Fast, cheap, friendly and tasty. I've had a few dishes that were nothing to write home about but their Pad Thai and fried rice dishes are great. There's not much atmosphere but for as close as it is to my apartment I'm amazed I have the willpower to not order carry out every other night. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Love this place! Delicious food and very inexpensive! My favorite is the pad siew (I usually get it with shrimp - yum! ). I also recommend their crab rangoon (they call it crab fried wonton), satay (chicken or beef or a combo... I prefer the beef), small egg rolls (they taste like lumpia!). They have an awesome lunch special - $5.55 gets you an egg roll, soup, entree, and a can of soda. I usually get the Chinese Broccoli Beef or the Panang Curry. The atmosphere is ehh, not much there, but I usually get take out so that's not an issue. The service has always been very nice. Definitely one of my go-to-places.

BYOB without a corkage fee. Fresh, delicious Thai food at an unbeatable price (two entrees and an appetizer for 21 bones? Fuck yeah.). A seemingly endless menu full of great choices.
This shit should be 5 stars, but I'm gonna knock it down to 4 because the atmosphere is less than desirable. A little Pizza Hut-ey?
But guess what. You mother fuckers get that star back because your restaurant's name is basically my name with "Thang" tacked on the end. Awesome.

Great place for good food at a decent price. The Vietnamese grilled beef noodle is amazing!!!
This place seems to get better and less expensive. I think they have a new chef and the food tastes that much better.

I like the service and the fresh vegtables. This is great for take out or eat-in. There is nothing… Read more »
Pretty much what everyone else has said. This was our first meal as residents of Wicker Park. Ordered the lard nar and the pad thai. Lard nar, was NOT good, the pad thai, however DELICIOUS! Will definately be ordering from them again and trying different things. The two meals plus the spring rolls and delivery were less than $19, you can't beat that at ALL in the city.
i just love this place. i love that the service and food are excellent and that it's not a pretentious wicker park joint. the family that runs this place is very sweet!
my friend has a tall 10 year old son with cerebral palsy and it's challenging taking him out to eat sometimes cuz he's non-verbal and he likes to try to walk around sometimes.
the folks at luc thang are *always* so gracious when we're there. they never freak and, in fact, they're very helpful.
eat here & support the few, "real" mom & pop places left in the hood!

I am amazed at the low ratings this place has gotten on yelp...
This is probably my favorite place to eat in Chicago, and when I lived there I was here at LEAST once a week (yes I did live half a block away, but its GREAT)
Yes the place has no atmosphere, BUT, it is
1. BYO
2. Really nice family owned place
3. Really good, really really really CHEAP too
4. Close to the blue line, so stop coming up with excuses
5. WAY BETTER THAN PENNYS
I have tried almost everything on the menu and its all killer except those dishes thrown in to please the average bland westerner like "Chicken with vegetables". I took my family here once for dinner ( 6 ppl) and I think the bill was $50.

Tried take out from Luc Thang once on Valentine's night 2009 - two entrees Pad Thai and Pad See Eiw with Tofu. Worst Thai food I've ever had... neither of us could even choke it down. We ended up throwing it out and eating frozen pizza if that tells you anything.
I used to live pretty close to Luc Thang. And the one and only item I ever ordered off their menu, the Vietnamese Grilled Beef Noodles, is seriously on point. Strips of beef grilled to crusty perfection, fresh basil leaves, and an egg roll, all on a bed of cold rice noodles for something like $5. I wish i was eating it right now.
Unfortunately, I can't rate this place based on one dish. Every time I've gotten food from Luc Thang with someone else they have, literally, always been disappointed with their order (as I sit there, wolfing my VGBN).

With the amount of thai restaurants in the area its a pretty fierce competition. Sadly Luc Thang, which is the closest to my apartment, is also in the back of the pack when it coems to quality food. I was so excited to try this place that the first time I ate there was on my birthday.
Everything at Luc Thang tastes overcooked to me, the noodles are way too soft consistency wise.
A nice little family-run restaurant that serves a combination of Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese dishes. The food isn't outstanding, but tasty nonetheless. It's great for take-out if you live in the neighborhood and don't want to fuss with the other, more expensive Thai restaurants in neighborhood. Try their yummy curry soup and pad siew. It's close to the Blue Line stop, and I've gotten a quick lunch here after coming home from work.

my challenges:
-i was craving thai on a monday (many thai food places are closed)
-i didn't want to spend a lot
-i was super hungry
-i want it to be close to work (near united center ish)
my solution:
luc thang!
holy cow! for $6 i had a can of diet coke, generously-cashew'd cashew chicken with white rice, an egg roll, and egg drop soup.
is it the most delicious of chicago's thai food choices? no. but given everything else, it was a pretty sweet deal :)
To get my local Chinese/Thai fix, I couldn't ask for anything more. Tons of vegetarian options & they gladly veganize the dishes. Plus it's cheap; we ordered the MEE KROB appetizer - crispy rice noodles (highly recommended), pad thai, fried rice, & 2 entrees, for delivery, all for $28. The tofu is tasty and fresh, cut into strips instead of lame cubes & not all deep-fried & crusty, which can get tiresome. Leftovers the next day. Quaint, friendly place.

This is a good spot for take out or delivery. The restaurant itself lacks incredibly in ambiance and it smells kind of weird - not like a restaurant should. But the food is good and super cheap, even for Thai.

I love this place! there is a lot of variety on the menu and everything i've gotten has been tasty and cheap. their food is mostly light and healthy like my mama made it for me. service is good, never had problems. i've tried the potstickers, the pad thai, the green curry, their tom yum soup, and their ground chicken salad. all were awesome and something i crave when i'm not in chicago.
Not the best and not the worst thai food I've had in Chicago. Not a whole lot I can say about this place - just your generic thai spot. The service was fine and the flavors weren't amazing but the price was pretty good. Personally I'd rather pay a couple bucks more and have some tasty thai somewhere else.

I have been going to this place for years. Not necessarily becuase the food is overwhelmingly tasty...but becuase of the pricing in comparison to other restaurants in the area. You can get some Vietnamese and Chinese food here, in addition to Thai. They do have excellent curry soups, however. They do deliver after 4PM, and they cook the dishes very quickly...usually within 15-20 minutes of your order. I rarely eat at the restaurant (always pickup or delivery)...but the service is decent.

I tried it a couple of times and have to agree with the majority of posters. Its a pleasant family place. Prices are good. But the food just seems bland - even for Thai food. I drive by on Ashland Ave often and love Thai food but I never am compelled to stop.
This is some sort of Chinese / Thai fusion. Well, not exactly. Mostly Thai. Except that they call their crab rangoon 'wonton' something-or-other. Whatever they call it, it's no good. The best way that I know how to explain them is if you take the fries at the bottom of the McDonald's deep fryer at the end of the night, then dip them in warm cream cheese. My entree came out a bit cold, which I found odd. Usually at these places, the food is so freaking hot you burn your tongue. Flavor was good, if not a bit bland. I had some of the rice, too. I think we got the bottom of the barrel, because there were a few too many dried up crusty chunks of rice in the bowl.
Overall, not a horrible experience. And the service was fairly good. Not much atmosphere, but for five bucks an entree, what do you really expect?
Probably no return trip for me. Even if I lived in the neighborhood, I'd get my Thai somewhere else.
yeah, loses translates to "soupy, flavorless waste of thirty bucks"

I tried some Thai dishes and they were pretty bad. Bland chicken basil, a woon sen with 2 shrimp and noodles, etc. Ughh.
