1 review for Lowell National Hisorical Park Visitor Center
When you think National Park Services, you probably imagine trees and wildlife with hiking trails and boating. Lowell is unique in that the National Historic Park is actually the urban downtown area of Lowell where the massive old mill buildings and the extensive canal system have been declared a national treasure and are preserved as a prime example of the industrial revolution.
The NPS has done a great job of preserving and protecting a lot of what makes Lowell historically meaningful. There are plenty of signs throughout the city to help guide you to the main attractions, and overall, the city is very well kept- which is in part due to the dedication of the NPS.
The guided tours for Historic Lowell all begin at the Visitor's Center. The parking lot is actually off of Dutton St. & Broadway St. Many of the summer tours include a trip along the canals in a boat and a ride on the historic trolley. The tours are a great introduction to historic Lowell and the Industrial Revolution in New England. Good for all ages.
Important note: make sure you call in advance to find out what tours are being offered that day and to reserve tickets. You'll also want to arrive 30 minutes before your tour in order to guarantee your spot.
