Ambiance: 3.5 stars
Overall: 4 star
Loving Hut is definitely worth trying out. I'm a total meat person, but i got roped into trying out this vegan restaurant by my girly coworkers. Turned out very delicious and creative in their representation of "meat". The shrimp (Spicy Cha Cha) was the most impressive, in that it looked just like real shrimp. We also had the Golden Era, Tasty Glory, and the Eggplant Tofu. Everything had a very unique and differing flavor without clashing on the tastebuds. The Milpitas location has a very clean & crisp ambiance, and the waitress was friendly. Lunch gets pretty packed, so come a little early.
From reading the other reviews,we went with:
Spicy Cha Cha: tastes like fried shrimp, but it wasn't spicy, lacked flavor
Three Cup Wonder: fake meat and whatever seasonings..my mom can make a way better version of this.
$1 charge per bowl of rice.
To me the food was just OK, nothing special, and overpriced. Not coming here again!
So I've been to this place a handful of times and each time my tummy leaves satisfied. However, I'm always exiting the building in a really bad mood.
It's a given that for the most part, the food here is pretty good. Some items on the menu can be nixed but if you stick to the Asian entrees, you can't go wrong.
Today I strayed from my usual Au Lac sweet and sour soup and Claypot sensation and attempted to be a bit adventurous with their Champion Burger... bad decision. The vegan patty was super salty-- and I usually like salty things but it was disgusting. Also, it was served with like 5 french fries and a fucking spoon to boot! Dude. Who eats a burger with a spoon? WHO? I needed a knife to share with my brother, but the server was just chillin and being unattentive behind the counter. Thanks.
Okay so maybe I come off as a nitpicky bitch with this review, but honestly this isn't the first time they messed up on our order. Oftentimes they take their sweet sweet time to take our order and serve us the wrong plate. Service here is always bad. I can understand if it's an "off" day, but does everyday I come in to eat with my brother have to be an "off" day?
For the prices here, you can find decent food elsewhere. Tofoo Com Chay downtown is still my favorite buttcrack in the wall vegetarian place to go to. And its WAY cheaper.
I'm mad at this place. Grrr.
I first tried Loving Hut at Oakridge Mall and fell in love with it...I love this place! If the world replaced McDonald's with places like Loving Hut, we would all be a lot thinner and a lot healthier! I enjoy that Loving Hut is healthy and uses no meat products. It helps me from feeling guilty when I eat!
Yesterday I got take out food from this location. I had never been to this location before so I was excited to see their much larger menu then the Oakridge location. They also have a dining area and a front counter to order food to go and also buy some of their vegan groceries in the case. I ordered the Schezwan Eggplant to go. It took a while to make but I remembered how fresh and delicious this place is, so it wasn't a big deal. They had my bag of food on the counter for a while so after about 5 minutes I asked if I could take my lunch and the guy said "Sure". Kinda funny because on my receipt was written "White Lady" LOL! I guess they don't have a lot of White Ladies coming in to eat here LOL!
When I got to work which is in Los Altos, I was happily surprised to see that my food was still pipping hot! The container they used was very efficient in keeping my food warm. In fact, their containers and all of their utensils and napkins are eco-friendly, so that makes me feel good.
The food was amazing! Loved it and for $8, I got a lot of food! I had to take most of it home that day to eat for dinner. Definitely worth it for such great healthy food.
I would definitely be back....wish I lived closer to this location since the selection is so much bigger then Oakridge Mall.
Not only does the location of this place rock since it's near my hood, but it also has gorgeous decor. Not too complex, not too simple. Beautiful and efficient dividers between booths. A big screen TV showcasing why you should eat only vegan. Sells Tofurky in the front entrance.
The menu is extensive and hard to choose from - so many enticing choices! Pricing is reasonable, especially for a vegan restaurant. We ordered the Clay Pot Special and the Spicy Cha Cha off of the seafood section. We also got the Mushu Rolls appetizer. Everything was AMAZING. They even toned down the spice on the Spicy Cha Cha for my mom.
I will so be back again. I'm thinking that when I find future boyfriend material I'll take him here to see what he thinks. If he doesn't like it, he's gone. JK of course.
If I could give a 6th star here, I would.
I love my girlfriend since she is so open to trying new types of food, especially vegan cuisine. I did have my concerns, a Vegan place called "The Loving Hut?" Could it possibly be any good? I was totally blown away that everything I ate was so delicious with not even a trace of meat, fish, or seafood to be found!
We started off with the "Flying Buddha Soup" A great way to start off a meal with something light, warm, and flavorful. The soup came with shrimp, tofu, vegetables, and taro. My favorite part was the taro, never experienced it in a soup before.
My friend suggested we get the "Spicy Cha Cha" The name does not do it any justice. I couldn't believe it wasn't shrimp, it tasted like shrimp, looked like shrimp and felt like shrimp! This was by far my favorite dish out of entire meal, the blend Yam flour crescents crumbles, spices, bell peppers, chilis, and onions were so flavorful.
The last dish we order was the Szechuan Strips. It was basically white protein that resembled chicken, sauteed with bell peppers, jalapenos, and ginger in a Szechaun sauce. This onc was just ok, we wouldn't order it again at our next visit.
Rice choices are white or brown, we opted for brown, I enjoyed the brown rice a lot with the dishes, it had a great texture and it's a bit healthier too. All of our dishes range from $9-$13, service was decent, I will definitely be back again in the near future for that Spicy Cha Cha!
Calling all vegan friends! I've found a great Chinese restaurant. Hopefully this place won't close within 2 years like all the other ones that I loved.
For Chinese vegan food, this place was a real delight. I was sad when I found out Wulai, another vegetarian Chinese restaurant in this same plaza closed (apparently almost two years ago-where have I been?). So to my surprise, there was Loving Hut which served such a great variety of Chinese vegan food. I came here during the moon cake festival with my family.
Pros:
-Clean, modern environment
-Efficient, no wait to sit or order
-Fast, friendly waiters who smiled at my group as they served
-Fav foods include:
--Wonton soup-great broth flavors and fresh wontons
--Formosa noodle soup (this is basically Taiwanese beef noodle soup done vegan style). Amazing! I loved this dish, especially since it tasted just like from Taiwan.
--Clay pot sensation: a tofu/seawees claypot, cooked Chinese style, very authentic (my dad loved this dish)
--Three cup wonder: a mixture of soy protein, goji berries, dates, ginger
--Yay for brown rice
Did not care for:
-Vegan cheesecake (perhaps I am too used to the dairy version, but this didn't taste right to me). maybe they should stick to asian desserts.
-Spring rolls: were ok, but tasted average, nothing special
-Large, unnecessary photos of famous people who are vegetarian at the entrance. should it matter whether richard gere is vegetarian? seems a little odd to put such big mugshots of these folks in the front.
I don't know whether the SF or PA locations are any better. I would imagine this location in Milpitas to be very authentic Chinese given the area.
No doubt about it, a vegan or a vegetarian will be willing to pay a pretty penny to wine and dine here for their non-standard and creative Chinese vegan dishes. Most of their dishes consisted of tofu, bean curd, or soy protein which are fried to create the "meat" texture and fragrant taste. What is the point of eating vegan/vegetarian if your putting grease and oil instead of chicken and beef down your gullet?
Don't be fooled by the words vegan and vegetarian. Still just as unhealthy as regular food if you prepare it deep fried and stir fried with massive oil to cover up the blandness of the lack of meat.
How can they make all these yummy dishes without ANY meat??? Their selection is bountiful and the food is delish! I don't know any other vegan place that has a better selection!
The ambiance is clean and neat- a very sterile cafe feel. So go for the uniquely flavorful dishes and not to take a date.
The stone pot dish was pretty good. I would recommend but I'm sure they have many other dishes that are just as spectacular.
Friday night my mom and I checked out Loving Hut. They are a franchise and have other locations. I particularly wanted to try this because when I saw Alicia Silverstone, she mentioned she ate at the Palo Alto location. The facilities are very nice, clean and pretty. It was kinda schmantzie for a vegan spot. My mom and I ordered the following:
Spicy cha cha - like deep fried shrimp, it was yummy with a spicy kick to it. This is always my fave at vegan restaurants. It never lets me down.
Kung pao - similar to Kung pao chicken, it was good and had a spicy kick to it. To be honest, I don't even like real Kung pao chicken. But if you like that, I'm sure you'll love this dish. ... Read More
Thai tea - yummy!! How could you go wrong?!?!
Taro drink - I'm not a huge taro fan, but my mom liked it. Tasted like a milky taro shake.
Caramen flan - more like a caramel rich jello, my mom became a fan.
Mocha chocolate cake - this was good. Moist, rich.... Yumm.
I'd totally go back here in a heartbeat. Actually, I'm glad it's pretty close to my house!!
Yes, I finally get to eat here!
And truth be told that I was sober the whole time. You know, the place was a lot better than I had imagined, not that I visit places that I imagine patronizing places that lack taste. The place was packed with taste. Somethings I thought they replicated the feel of the targeted meat, and others not so much.
It's funny that the company I was eating with actually thought the 'claypot sensation' was actually fish. WRONG! And the three cup wonder was a tad too chewy to be chicken. With all that being said, I look forward to checking it out again. I feel healthier already after eating those 12 tofu courses like it was going out of fashion. I of course don't remember them all, but the experience was eye opening.
Though I did treat myself to the flan, but dropped it like a bad habit since it was jello dressed up like flan. I don't personally care much for jello. Actually, I don't really care for flan.
bleh
Don't get me wrong, I love vegetarian food but this place doesn't do it for me. Nothing looked good for me but I tried the pho. I had maybe a few noodles and a sip of soup but it was way too bland. I even tried going to another location and got the fries. Eww! Freezer burn.
We came here with my dad for some soup while I was pregnant and ordered the Spicy Thai soup and a stir fry dish. The soup was really good and the stir fry just "meh".
The creepiness factor is the reason I will most likely never return. They show Supreme Grand Master propaganda on a flat screen tv and the waitresses are all dressed alike and have the same demeanor, haircut and clothing. They were nice enough, but still a little weirded out by the whole experience.
I've been wanting to try this place after I saw it many times during our trips to McCarthy Ranch... and being the meat-lover kind of gal that I am.. I was kind of skeptical.. but thanks to my http://restaurant.com coupon we had to come here..
My boyfriend and I were amazed at how nice the inside of the restaurant is .. the glass windows and the nice white leathery chairs.. extremely nice for a restaurant that is moderately priced. We ordered the Golden Era which was some fried tofu with a lemony dipping sauce and the Spicey Cha Chas, basically fried shrimp with onions and scallions. Both dishes were very tasty, but we didn't know they were both fried dishes.. wish we would've ordered something savory to balance out the flavors. We also had a side of brown and white rice to go with our meals.
Some of the dishes can be a bit expensive for a vegan meal.. dinner dishes ranges from about $9-$15. The servers were extremely nice.. now after reading other reviews.. I guess I could understand why it seemed a bit creepy..
Hopefully we have better luck next time w/ the dishes because I still have another coupon left..
I came here today with a friend and let me tell you, I was more than skeptical of a vegan restaurant, but this place was really good.
Because I went for lunch (don't know if they do it for dinner too) they gave us a small cup of a brothy soup. This was actually quite bland and made me fear for the rest of my meal.
After I drank the soup, my main dish came. I opted for the Guru lunch, this is a curry dish with tofu, potatoes and peas. It came with a side on lentils as well. It was actually very flavorful and filled me up. If I don't eat meat, I usually get hungry right away again, but that wasn't the case here.
Overall, this place is pretty good and I'd definitely go back. Don't mix up vegetarian/vegan with healthy though, my tofu wasn't greasy, but it was deep fried and that never means healthy.
Went here for dinner last night with my family. Was not too busy, and the service was good. We were all impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the place. Everyone loved the chow fun, and I liked the silken fried tofu. Seemed a bit overpriced for dinner; lunch specials seemed more reasonable
Overall, food was good. Definitely go back when I'm in mood for vegan food
I think the food is a bit overpriced for what it is. I love vegetarian food and the food here is not that bad.
eggrolls- my mom makes better ones
tofu- it was good
healthy rice- really good!! brown rice within a salad
Spicey cha-chas- best dish of the night. our family scarfed it down like no other
clay pot- it was ok...pretty small
since it was my mom's birthday- she got a flan. It wasn't too sweet.
Would I come here again? Probably not. I'll hit up the joint on 10th and Santa Clara and orde the 'bun bo hue' there. Or the other place Capitol.
They did really well. Their Mongolian beef is like Mongolian beef fat...but it was tasty...veggie-beef fat...whatever you want to call that. It was good though. 4 stars!
First thing i noticed when i walked in here was that everything was white, bright and CLEAN.
I've been here twice already and i thought the food was pretty good. I wouldnt wanna say it's the best i've had but it was okay for what it is.
Mongolian beef & egg rolls are good, the happy crispy rice in metal pot was good too.
items to skip:
fried tofu appetizer - bland & the tofu is too soft, not crunchy & fried enough on the outside...breaks when you use your chopsticks which gets annoying.
kung pao - too much sauce & it sour which makes you bored of it after a few bites
singapore curry mi fun - bland & boring.
flan - REAL flan w/ eggs is MUCH better! not custardly enuff here
Overall i like the place and i like how they have pictures for most of their items, which makes it easier and harder for you to choose at the same time. I love how they don't only just Asian items... ex: burgers, pastas... cool. I'll try those next time too. Service = great.
Ok, I have to say that I was quite disappointed in the Loving Hut. I really was expecting this place to be great considering all the reviews but man, was I not at all impressed.
So I went there with my friend at lunch time and they were busy but we were one of the first ones to arrive. But we ended up standing there for like 10 minutes even though we were the first ones there and there was an empty table for 2 right in front of us. All the waiters looked like they were really busy but it seems they were just busy running around, not really serving anyone. So 1 stars taken away for the wait to be seated.
Another star taken away cause we were pretty much ignored by the waiters for like another 10 minutes after we were seated and we were ready to order.
The 3rd star was taken away as the food was kind of blah. We ordered the spring rolls and they really lacked flavor, I was quite disappointed. The next dish was the joy luck deluxe? The flavor was slightly wierd in the sauce and well, it was all right but not that great. We also ordered this deep fried dish that had a lemon/lime dipping sauce. That was pretty good but quite salty.
The whole meal was all right but let me tell you, I was super thirsty afterwards! Which means the food was really salty. Oh, we did order the flan which was quite impressive. Pretty much the only thing that impressed.
I have come back to this restaurant a few times since my last review, and I've found that I've come to like the fried tofu appetizer (soft tofu, delicately fried, paired with a tasty sauce) and the fried mushroom entree. I also like the vegan brownie plus ice cream (1 scoop vanilla, 1 scoop cherry recommended). However, I wish that they'd offer a brownie only pricing (to order to-go) for us girls who need a chocolate fix every once in a while and would like to conveniently pull out a brownie to munch on. I asked for a brownie to go and they elaborately put together the brownie and the vegan ice cream in to-go boxes, but I couldn't really just let the ice cream sit because it would melt, so I had to eat it right away. Oh darn, poor me, right? hahaI feel mediocre about the spring rolls (typical spring rolls, so effectively pricey for what you are getting). I have also found that I am not particularly a fan of the szechwan strips (too much fake meat for me) and the fried chow fun (the noodles were too stuck together and not particularly crispy fried but more like overcooked.) 4 stars for slow service- probably best to not come if you're in a hurry.

Yummy!!! This is my favorite vegetarian restaurant in the area.
The inside is very cute, makes you feel like you're in Asia. The food is delicious, I especially love the Three Cup Wonder, so flavorful and fulfilling.
I'm a meataholic, but I could still eat here any day!!
This is probably my favorite south bay veggie joint.
Walking through glass doors to a tidy restaurant gives off a very classy feel. The menu is the cutest thing ever with its rather unique categories like Earth, Ocean, Heaven? Sounds pretty out there to me.
My favorite dish would probably be the Sizzling Tofu ($10.95). It's made with silken tofu, rather than the more solid kind, so the taste is very different from the average tofu you think about. Love the sauce they use for it too! I've also tried Steamed Chinese Broccoli, Tasty Glory, and Pad Thai, all of which were to my liking.
Good service. Comfy seating (because come on, if you're sitting on something uncomfortable, how the hell are you suppose to feel the comforting foods?). And a happy tummy by the end of my meal.
Since my wife is a vegetarian and all attempts by me to convert her to the ways of the T-Rex I cave into my herbivore wife and we got to vegetarian restaurants from time and time. My wife loves the Vegetarian House in San Jose and since moving to Union City , she's been craving to go back. She recently discovered that the same people who own Vegetarian House opened up a spot called the Loving Hut and thus my journey into No Meat land began.
Located in an Asian Strip Mall, Loving Hut is easy to find and parking is fairly easy. I have to admit, I'm not too fond of the décor here. The bleach white walls, table, and chairs, with Asian Accent pieces kind of reminds me of walking into some sort of highly clean medical center.
We got a booth and the waitress gave us our menu. As mention everything here is vegetarian but they do include a couple of faux meat item. My wife was so happy to have a full menu to herself. I looked over the menu and while 80% is dedicated to Asian Vegetarian Foods such as Pad Thai, Stir Fried Tofu, Spring Rolls, and Mu Shu, they do offer a couple of Western Vegetarian options such as burgers and lasagna. One good thing is that a majority of the food here is under $10 with the rest being under $15, so it's definitely affordable.
Looking over the menu I decided to get the Mu Shu Rolls and the Spring Roll Noodles. My wife got the Heavenly Salad and Won Ton Soup. We chatted for a while and up came the Mu Shu Rolls. It came with about 8 rolls and a plum sauce dipping sauce. They were packed with veggies and tofu. The filling was good but the shell of the rolls was way chewy.
We got the Won Ton soup next and it was served in a large bowl and the waitress brought us two small bowls so we could share. The serving size was nice and the Won Ton were generous but like the Mu Shu rolls, the shells of won ton were very chewy.
Up came the main meal of the Spring Roll noodles and Heavenly Salad. Both the noodles and the salad were very generous in portion. More than enough to serve 2 or 3 people. The major issue with both the noodles and the salad was that they were over dressed. I mean they really dump on the dressing on both of them. On the noodles they were overly generous with the sprouts and the spring rolls they skimped on. They only gave a couple of small spring rolls cut up. They should have at least double that amount.
The waitress came and packed us up our things. She did a good job and was attentive but wasn't in our face about it.
Overall it was decent enough meal. My wife would like to come back in the future and would say they are a decent vegetarian restaurant and would give them 3 star rating.
My family being vegetarians, love this place. I visited for the first time a few weeks ago, to have lunch with my sisters and mommy.
Everything we ordered was delicious. We had the Spicy Cha-Cha's, Sweet and Sour Soup and Clay Pot. The Cha-Cha's and Soup are highly recommended.
I am a carnivore, but dining here satisfies me.
Service was also great.
Let me start by saying that my LUVing Hut would be more like a brazilian steakhouse, but for a vegetarian place, Loving Hut is pretty delicious.
Spicy Cha Cha ($12.95) is fried so really how can you go wrong even if it is fake shrimp. Sizzling Tofu ($10.95) is nice and sizzling. Mum's Stir Fly ($10.95) is light and tasty. The only down side I would say is for being vegetarian, this place is a bit expensive. At $12.95 it should not be fake shrimp.
My first impression of this place was that it is super clean. Sterile even. You wouldn't expect the place to be so bright. Most restaurants would prefer the darker furniture to prevent the obvious wear and tear of their place but not Loving Hut! They just keep it sparkly clean and blemish free.
This was my first time eating at an Asian vegetarian place and I loved it completely. The atmosphere here is warm and the menu looks like it leaned towards Asian fusion. My friend Jasmine introduced me to this place for lunch. We had the pad Thai and the formosa (beef) noodle soup. I forgot what our appetizer was called, but it was spring rolls with a spicy peanut sauce. Absolutely delicious! Fresh and healthy to the very last bite. The portions are generous and the prices are definitely friendly with a college sized wallet. The bill was less than $25 for both I think.
Our waitress was also very attentive and super nice. We forgot to ask her name, but everyone else on staff seem to have the same genuine cheery disposition about them. So anyone you get is going to be great! Service was definitely great, especially during their lunch hour.
Can't give it 5 stars yet until I try the rest of the menu!
Small portion for lunch especially for a vegetarian restaurant.
This was our second visit to the Loving Hut. The name cracks me up---it sounds halfway between some clandestine private club or a massage parlor.
When we asked our vegan friend, J, if she'd like to go to the Loving Hut with us, she hesitated ,"Er, ah sure, what is it?"
Hubby and I went there about a month ago and would have returned sooner but since it is 50 miles away, we had to make a day of it
(my other Fremont reviews will follow).
When we walked in one of the servers smiled at me and said, "Hi, welcome back!" Most mere mortals would feel a little disconcerted to be recognized like this. But this happens to me all the time. So I am either ravishingly beautiful or freakishly odd--or both.
The restaurant is clean and sparkly and is operated by followers of
The Supreme Master.
It always seems that some of the best vegetarian restaurants are run by religious groups...
The three of us ate:
Mu Shu rolls
(Steamed mixed vegetables and soy protein rolled in rice paper with a spicy peanut sauce) A little on the bland side----B+
Fried Tofu
(Soft tofu with a delicate panko crust) with a slightly sweet sauce--
A- I think I liked it better than my fellow diners. But hell you could coat nuts and bolts in panko and I would happily eat them!
Heavenly Salad
(Shredded cabbage with tofu, fresh herbs, and soy protein in a light vinaigrette, topped with peanuts) Could have used some more peanuts.
Delicate and refreshing--B+
Gurus Curry
Tofu, potato, tomato, peas in a rich curry gravy.
We all loved this dish, especially our friend, J. She loves any kind of vegan gravy or sauce--and this one was very tasty. -- A
fyi this is not spicy like a typical Indian curry, but it was quite flavorful
Au Luc Crispy Chow Fun
Crispy flat rice noodles with tofu and mixed vegetables.
I really liked this dish but probably would have enjoyed it better if the crispy noodles were on top of the dish instead of the bottom where they became soft and gelatinous---didn't slow me down, though......-B+
Healthy Brown Rice
Roasted pine nuts, sesame seeds, nori, vegetables, cucumber and a slightly tangy sauce. We all loved this dish--it was our favorite .May not be for everyone--you have to be a nori lover------A+
Vegan Flan
Heavenly! A
Vegan Cheesecake
Ditto havenly-- A
We'll definitely be back!
i have to admit, i actually avoided this place because, well, the name first of all, and it seemed like a bunch of tree hugging weirdos decided to open a restaurant. and i am NO vegetarian! but my friend said that other people recommended this place, then the yelp reviews verified it for me. plus, my grandma is vegetarian, so it's hard to find a good vegetarian place to take her to have a nice meal at.
we got the fried tofu appetizer, which has a sticky, crispy light batter, and the tofu inside is soft and silky. the dipping sauce that comes with it complements it perfectly. we also got the spicy cha cha, which are flour crescents that look like battered fried shrimp. it even has orange striping on it, and the texture is unbelievably like real shrimp. i was a little nervous that it was real meat, so i just didn't say anything to my grandma (i didn't want her to feel bad). turns out they were purely vegetarian imitation shrimp. we had some of these leftover, so i tricked my cousin when we got back. i told him they were fried shrimp hahahaha. he liked them, but commented, "this shrimp is really good, but what kind is it? i've never had shrimp like this before." hahahahahaha.
the clay pot was another smash hit. it's tender bean curd dressed up to look like simmered fish. and again, it even kind of had the texture of fish! the gravy sauce was most excellent as well. my grandma absolutely loved the place, and couldn't wait to go run off and tell her friends that her wonderful grand-daughter found this amazing vegetarian restaurant just for her :D
This seems to be a Buddhist Chinese restaurant.
This restaurant is located Milpitas square, same complex as in Ranch 99 and Chettinad Indian Restaurant (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Pure vegetarian though some dishes will look similar as a non-veg dish.
I do not like to go any place that do not serve non-vegetarian, this was exception. I found this place amazing. Very lively, well lit place, good service.
Menu has picture of all the items that you can order. Kids were able to choose what they want to eat.
About food
Crispy roll: Found it really crispy.
Gurus Curry: Its like Indian curry, with lot of potato and soy protein. Enough for two to share.
Chow Mein: Was good. Good thing - little oil used
Rice (Medium): good for two
Cheese Cake: Kids liked it.
Very clean, very comfortable, and very nice staff / service. Can't go wrong with Vegan either if you're trying to count calories. The bun hue was reeeeeally good, and for $7, the medium sized portion was more than enough to fill me up. Happy rice was pretty good too, comes in a hot clay pot and is slightly crunchy with lots of fake meat, mushrooms, veggies on top to mix in. Not as good as my Bun Hue though.
There are so many interesting sounding things on the menu that I'll just have to come back and try something new. I'm still loyal to being carnivorous though. Veganism can't fool me.
YUMMY!!!!! Loving hut has SOO many options of different types of food, all vegetarian. I can't vouch for everything since I've only been there once, but during this one time, I was definitely WOW-ed and impressed. I got the Pad Thai which was super flavorful and even better than the ones I usually order at Thai restaurants, and my friend got a salad but I can't remember which one. Since recently going vegetarian, there aren't too many options of vegetarian places to eat out at, so I yelped it and found this place.
I love the all white decor of the place, gives it a really great clean feel. I also like how in the front they have Tofurky and other veggie goods that you can purchase and bring home to cook.
Last note, which topped it all off, was the service --- which was GREAT! Our waitress was super cute and attentive and offered her opinions of the plates that we were having a hard time choosing, and overall polite and friendly! Isn't it awesome when you find a place that serves great food along with great service? I do :) I am going back next week!
3 for the food, but borderline 2.5 for the creepy ambiance factor.
Really, I appreciate vegetarian food for health reasons. But to be knocked over the head throughout my entire dining experience with the Supreme Master TV channel with messages of "it should be illegal to eat meat" and that the "greed of consuming meat" is responsible for every global disaster? I like to eat healthy, but not when I feel like I'm being forced into it. No thank you.
That being said, the food was fairly good. We had the lemon grass fish, fresh spring rolls, and sizzling tofu with veggies. The sizzling dish served silky tofu cubes inside a slightly crispy skin. I would have liked the vegetables to have simmered in the black bean sauce, too. The texture of the "fish" had a meaty bite, with a strong lemon grass flavor.
It's definitely a solid place for a good variety of vegetarian options. However, I've had better vegetarian dishes at other places, and without the unnecessary "brainwashing" bit.
To be honest, v's are probably one of the most annoying types of people that exist out there. I mean, they think that just because they are abstaining from animals that they can act all high and mighty. I think it's soooooo funny that even though they aren't technically eating meat, they still eat things that RESEMBLE meat in terms of taste and texture. The only difference is what's in their iron-low consciences.
Ok rant done!
Now the food is good here. I tried the Spring Rolls and Bun Hue (or "bun bo hue"). I've had some pretty legit bun bo hue in my time so although this isn't exactly it, the dish is good for what it is. The broth is rich with flavor and the ingredients taste fresh. I would gladly get this again! The medium size is $6.95 (they don't offer a small) and the bowl doesn't look big but it is packed with stuff. I only drank half the broth and didn't completely finish the stuff in the bowl. The spring rolls weren't too far off but they came with the most bland fish sauce I've ever had. Please change your fish sauce brand! Luckily they have sriracha that you can just grab.
The staff looks really cute in their matching baby blue shirts. Makes you feel like you're in Asia. Food came out fast and the service was generally pretty good. When my friend and I first came in, they indicated that we should sit next to each other in the booth (as opposed to across) so that sun wouldn't get in our eyes (it was facing one side of the booth). I would definitely come back with more people so we can try the other dishes family style.
So we came here for lunch one day and it took about two hours when everyone who decided to keep waiting for their food, actually got their food. There was a lot of waiting. The staff didn't seem to know who ordered what or when it was ordered. They were so packed that they probably just plain didn't care about getting people their food in a reasonable amount of time. I ended up with frozen yogurt next door because it was faster. They are getting two stars because they manage to be popular despite bad service and the long wait, so they must be doing something right. Probably the desserts (which looked awesome).
Not your typical vegan restaurant; there were a lot of fried and grilled stuff on the menu. The food was quite tasty but a bit overpriced.
Ah ma gad. This place is to die for. x)!!
Their seafruit plater is great. Their "fish" is crispy, and their vegetarian dipping sauce is unbelievably good. With extra noodles and rice paper, a plate was enough to feed all four of us.
Nice setting too. They also sell vegetarian packaged food as well. Saves a trip to the local grocery store when you're feeling vegetarian inspired. :)
Most of the dishes we ordered were varying textures of tofu. It was alright, but I am not a fan of 'fake' meats. Yes, some of the tofu's emulated beef, chicken, and fish to a good degree. But it still tasted weird to me. The prices were quite high for the small dishes they served their food in.
As other reviews have stated, service was pretty slow to start. Although slow, our waiter was very funny & sweet.
We shared the:
Spring rolls - best veggie spring rolls I've had, wasn't super oily
Heavenly salad - similar to Vietnamese goi ga, VERY good!
Szechuan tofu - very soft & silky but the sauce was sweet. Not for those who aren't a fan of sweet entrees like myself
Spicy cha cha - great alternative to fried shrimp! you can't tell the diff.!
Clay pot sensation - disappointment. Go to Vietnamese vegetarian houses for this dish, we make it right!
Don't think I'd come back again for dinner but, I'll give their lunch a try. Hoping the bun hue/pho lives up to the hype.
