I would go every day and eat 3 minis if I could afford the cupcakes and the new clothes to wear after eating so many.

i like the cakes that they offer and i LOVE the frostings.

the flavors and ingredients are top notch.

the service is slow, but you know what, they are so good i don't care.

unless i was about to go into shock and needed a cupcake.

fleur de sel, eat one and realize why you were put on this earth. to eat them.

Place is adorable; tons of flavors of cupcakes and very cutely decorated.  I love that they have mini cupcakes for the individual who pretends to be on a diet yet still seeks out cupcakes every day.  They also have tons of options beyond cupcakes for the sugarholic who isn't in a cupcake mood.

I did notice the "service" issues that some people have said they had... I gave em the benefit of being a new store in a sometimes difficult location.  Check it out!

The decor is perky and appropriate for a cupcake shop. Points for locating downtown. Not cut from the Sprinkles mold by any means. I tried a Mocha cupcake. The actual cake was spongy and dense, not what I expected at all. Seems more like a mass-produced cake rather than something made in a small bakery. I prefer rich, moist cakes, and this was not that. Frosting, as others have noted, was minimal and very light. Again, I prefer a more traditional cupcake, one that has a moist cake and plenty of rich, sugary frosting. For the price you pay you want to get more taste than this.

Perhaps if they billed their goods as being light, or low-cal, or something along those lines. That might help with expectations.

In following my husbands sweet tooth and the wonderful people at Yelp, we came upon loves. The first time we went we took the whole family, so trying one or two Cupcakes. Then a month later (October 31, 2009) we went alone. Knowing the kids would be filling up on candies, we tries multiple cupcakes and yum!!!
My personal favorite is the Strawberry and my new top pick in the Pumpkin. The icing is not Whip Cream, but it sure is light like Whip cream and the strawberry icing is not the imitation flavor like all the others I have tasted.
This place is new and a must try on anyones trip to downtown San Jose.
Enjoy!

After 3 long classes I decided to treat myself to a cupcake. I was actually just browsing yelp to see what was nearby when Loves popped up! I walked the block and a half to it cause i was crrraving a lemon cupcake. To my sadness there was none. There were actually only about 6 to choose from.
I got the red velvet. So this review is only for this particular flavor.

When I first bit into it the frosting caught my attention...it was obvious I ate one from when they first opened cause the frosting had that texture tht it had been left out. It was 3:30 when I went. The red velvet didn't really have anything to point out that was great, it actually was a bit blan. Not something you want when you just paid $3 for one cupcake. Not to mention my fingers were all oily after, too much butter? :/
Over all I need to start making cupcakes at home...

Loves Cupcakes is amazing!! I don't agree with most of the people giving one or two stars. They complain about the frosting being "melted." Just a heads up...the frosting they use is a meringue frosting! It's not your typical Sprinkles or Kara's frosting, which is purely sugar. The meringue makes it lighter and not so sweet, and maybe a even a LITTLE better for you (I said a little). In the end, the lighter frosting does make it more prone to melting, but that just means you have to eat them fast!! What's wrong with that, because they are so good!!

The decor is really cute. The service is friendly, but not always on top of things. I do agree that they need better carrying boxes, but I can relate to having a new business and all.

I highly recommend the strawberry cupcake. When you get chunks of real strawberry, you know its authentic and fresh! It's amazing!!!

For those not in the San Jose area, I would also recommend Sibby's Cupcakery in San Mateo. They don't have a store front, because its purely catering. BUT they often have leftovers for sale that are delicious!!

Came here yesterday night. First time hanging out in San Jose. After eating at Boiling Crab we wanted to grab dessert. My friend doesn't like yogurt so we decided on cupcakes. There isn't too much to chose from and the place was eerie quiet. It is a Saturday night. I don't know.

I ordered the Mocha, the chocolate dream, and the red velvet. What exactly is a red velvet? They have it everywhere. Anyway, I think the frosting was kind of weird for all of the them and the cake part wasn't to memorable.

We sat at their only table outside. They have around 4 stools inside for seating. O They also have a bathroom.

Their cupcakes are blah. I've been there 2 times and they were out of almost all their cupcakes and have a small variety to choose from... the frosting was a big melting pile... nothing to b rag about.. I wasn't impressed at all...

First time I went here I ordered 6 large cupcakes in whatever they had left, and 6 minis.... the girl didn't use cupcake separators and handed me the box, when I got to my destination all the cupcakes were smashed together and the frosting was all over the place....I had bought them as a surprise for someone....that was ruined

Second time   I went there they were out of most cakes and I just ordered one coconut cupcake and it was ok.... nothing special.

Their staff/owners seem unexperienced and are not nice.

Terrible.

I walked in and received a half-hearted greeting from the girl behind the counter. I asked about red velvet cupcakes and was told that they had just run out and I should have come sooner because they usually run out of those early. I didn't know you had to be psychic to buy cupcakes!

Instead I ordered a mini-chocolate coconut cupcake which was ok. I did like the cake part but the frosting had the texture of melted whipped cream. Gross.

I will not be back.

Finally a cupcakery in dtsj! We had a hard time finding it, but it was worth the hunt.  When we got there, they were closing up early so as a pleasant surprise, we were given a dozen red velvet mini cupcakes!  Thank you!  I especially liked the frosting on the red velvets.  They aren't overly sweet and are well proportionate to the cupcake.

I had tried one day during a break between classes at sjsu to find out that the frosting machine went kaputs before the day even started for the bakery, leaving me quite sad that I didn't get to try it...

A week later, I finally got to go in and try one of their minis. I went for the Fleur de Sel... and OH EM GEE. I honestly didn't know what to expect... but I'd have to say that it was a pleasant surprise. This probably had to be one of the best cupcakes I ever had. It was really moist and had just the perfect amount of sweetness.

Until I'm up for taking on the calories again - this review is based solely on this cupcake..

These cupcakes are to die for!  I come in her at least once a week and have tried every cupcake and have never been disappointed.  The customer service is great and they really do care about every customer that walks through their doors.  All their cupcakes are delicious but if it is your first time going I recommend the strawberry madness.  I had two dozen cupcakes made for my birthday and everything went smoothly.  I asked them to give me an assortment and they gave me an even amount of the cupcakes and everyone at my party was asking for seconds.  I highly recommend trying Loves Cupcakes!

I really liked Loves Cupcakes. Went there today to order a dozen for a party. ( This way I get to taste more flavors also...hehe). I chose a little bit of everything. Vanilla Coconut, strawberry, red velvet, fleur de sel, black and white, blueberry vanilla, and chocolate.
Since we cut them in half I was able to try the red velvet, strawberry, chocolate and coconut vanilla. I loved them all. I think I just really like cakes. None of the cakes were dry, I actually didn't eat the red velvet till 7pm and I bought the cakes at 1pm in the afternoon and it was still moist. I really liked the coconut and the strawberry best. My favorite part is the frosting.
The frosting is not plain sugar and it's not really buttercream. It's a little hard to pinpoint but it has a whipped cream quality to it, therefor the cakes we not overly sweet and I really like that. Even though they can be loaded with frosting it's not overwhelming. I find Kara's Cupcakes to have such a thick very sweet frosting that it cancels out the cake aspect and is just a too much.
Either way it's a nice treat to try a cupcake from Loves even if I can make the cupcake myself. Who doesn't like going into a bakery and choosing a pretty cupcake?
(They have mini's also for those who just can't choose one)

I went to Love's on a Friday afternoon around 4:30 to pick out some cupcakes to pick up the following day.  They didn't have a whole lot left to see but a very friendly employee helped me pick out 6 different types to fill up my 1.5 dozen box.  I ended up ordering Black & White, Chocolate, Vanilla, Coconut, Fleur de Sel, and Red Velvet.  When I showed up on Saturday they were all waiting for me and service was again good.  They were all quite a hit at my party.  My personal favorites from these were the Black & White and Fleur de Sel.  The cake and frosting on all of them was superb.  I will definitely be going back.  I'm dying to try the strawberry.

Thank you Love's!

I really don't understand what the reviews are about with the one & two stars because I have a pleasurable experience, but maybe I came in on a good day!

Well, this place is now my new spot for cupcakes. I've had Kara's, i've had Sweet Passions, but Love's just really did it for me. I went with a friend, and we were instantly greeted with a smile. Always a plus. We said it was our first time visiting and got some recommendations for popular cupcakes. I kind of had my heart set on red velvet (but I do have a couple in mind for next time), so I got a mini-cupcake, which was just the right size!! Can I just tell you that it was DELICIOUS...moist, rich flavor and the frosting was fabulous! I was very impressed because not everyone can make red velvet cake/cupcakes! We also got a frequent customer card, and a couple of extra stamps too. Great customer service! Great cupcakes! What more can you ask for? I'll be back before the week is over...

Undesirable
Nice try... not a "wow" cupcake
Look at the melting glob of frosting :'(
Ordered: Lemon Zest ($3.25) and mini Red Velvet ($1.75)
Very innovative concept: sugar free cupcakes and cupcake box holder
Empty store... empty cupcake trays?
Disappointment

For months this place was in construction. I'd be on my way to the downtown library and peek through the glass windows to see the progress. They opened late last month and I was FINALLY able to step inside this cupcake store. I thought, "Finally! A cupcake store in Dowtown SJ!!" I was excited and intrigued to try this new cupcake place. I was expecting something great!

Where are the cupcakes? I came in one day right when they opened (10am) and I was disappointed that they were just setting up their cupcake display. Nice little framed artwork on the walls (scrapbooky kind of feel), but it wasn't clear on the wall what were the flavors of the day. I saw one of the flavors listed was a Chai flavored cupcake!! Ohh I love Chai!! So I asked for a Chai cupcake and then they told me they weren't selling it today. -.- The staff recommend the Lemon Zest and Red Velvet instead.

Cupcakes (2.5 stars): I bit into the Lemon Zest and couldn't believe how dense and dry it was. It wasn't that moist, soft, and fluffy kind of texture that Kara's or Sprinkles has. The Red Velvet was moist, but the frosting of both cupcakes were melted and looked quite sad.  :(

Cupcake box (4 stars): Brown cardboard box with a removable white divider that prevents the cupcakes from smashing into each other. LOVE the box more than the cupcake! ahaha

Like all new stores, it's rough in the beginning. There's much needed improvement. I hope within the next few months or years that they'll be able to meet customers' expectations... with a tastier cupcake.

I am not sure who loves "Loves Cupcakes." I know I don't. But that doesn't mean I won't come by for a little taste here and there. I know it isn't Mira Cakes, but sometimes, it doesn't hurt to have a little something on the side.

I had the red velvet and a chocolate cupcake. The red velvet was excellent. It was moist and had an awesome cream cheese topping. This was easily a 3.5 to 4-star cupcake.

The chocolate one was okay. There was nothing special about it. I'd give it 2 stars or so.

You have the option of a small or regular sized cupcake. So if you watching your calories and just want a small nibble, it is possible here.

The store itself is really cute inside. It's a nice addition to San Jose. I just wish the customer service could have more of a smile on their face.

I don't love "Loves Cupcakes." But I'll take a taste here and there. When it comes down to it, It sure ain't Mira Cakes. Mira Cakes is definitely wifey material. Loves Cupcakes is mistress/sancha material.

I'm a fan of the cupcake trend. I can't help it. I like small things. As long as they're not on my man. So I "loves cupcakes." And what's better than a cute, little cupcake? A cute, little mini-cupcake! Because that means I can try a variety of cupcake flavors without the guilt of eating a full cupcake.

The ones I chose (for $1.75 each) on my first visit included a mixed berry (cupcake of the month), black and white, fleur de sel, and lemon supreme.

Get the lemon supreme!!

I am SO happy the person helping me behind the counter recommended it. It was by far the best and I will return to purchase the full-size version.....along with another assortment of minis, I'm sure.  The order of my preference was lemon, berry, fleur (which is like caramel) and black and white.  The Fleur one tasted a little dry, but the flavor was nice.

The main thing I didn't understand was the fact that they put 2 of my minis in a box and 2 in a little white paper bag with the top cup off,. They didn't have any sort of bag I could conveniently carry all of them in together or a box that would accommodate 4 minis.  I was afraid I was going to drop my cakes all the way back to my office! Personally I think they should have boxes that fit different numbers of cupcakes because the white paper bag was a disaster waiting to happen and half the frosting came off since the sides of the bag kept falling into the cute little cupcakes.

Other than that, I really enjoyed Loves Cupcakes and recommend you get your cupcake lovin' on there too!

My co-workers are cupcake fiends, and they all agree that these are some of the best -- and best-looking -- they've ever had.

That said, the business is new, and experiencing some growing pains. Sometimes a particular kind of cupcake is not ready first thing in the morning. Sometimes they run out of cupcakes toward the end of the day. Sometimes the credit card machine is down. Etc. Hopefully, they'll iron this stuff out over time.

I'm not in "loves" with these cupcakes.

I came here with some friends last weekend, mistakenly thinking it was their grand opening with coupons from their website in tow. (The grand opening was actually the week before. Oops.). My "buy two cupcakes, get one free" coupon was still good though (check the website for coupons) so we took advantage of that.

We arrived at 8:30, before they closed at 9:00. Since it was so late there were only two flavors of the large cupcakes ($3.25) to choose from, Caramel and Red Velvet. (They also carry mini cupcakes for, I think, $1.50.) The counter girl highly recommended the Caramel so we got two of those. My friends got the Red Velvet. It's a cute little cupcake store, but the only places to sit are stools around the counter facing the windows (no tables) so we had our cupcakes wrapped to take home where it would be easier to cut into them with knife and fork (I know - blasphemy!).

My friends liked the Red Velvet, and said it was better than Sugar Butter Flour's rendition. (I'm trying to avoid artificial dyes since I'm preggers. Otherwise I would have been all over a Red Velvet cupcake.) My husband and I were very unimpressed with our shared Caramel. The frosting added nothing and we actually did a frosting-ectomy. At least there was less frosting on it than most places. The Caramel really didn't taste very caramelly, and the best part was the piece of Caramello (the candy bar) on top. That was probably the most dissatisfied we've felt with a cupcake purchased at a cupcakery.

It's not a good sign when you give away your second cupcake.

Since the Caramel is the only cupcake I tried I have to give Love's two stars. Wow, I just looked at the Yelp reviews and it's a review bloodbath.

I was stoked to find that Love's had opened. I had walked by many times anticipating the day when the doors would open for business. I skipped inside with eyes full of wonder, hoping to find a beautiful case filled with sugary delights. The place is definitely bright and cheery, but they did not have much of a selection of cupcakes available.

We picked out a red velvet, lemon, chocolate bliss, and the carmel. All of the cupcakes were very dry. The red velvet was the best one, but  was just okay. The lemon had a wonderful frosting. Not too sweet, and with the perfect amount of lemon flavor. Sadly- the frosting was the only thing worth eating. We licked the frosting off and thew the hard cake away. The frosting on the chocolate cupcake was melty, and left a film on my mouth. The caramel was okay, but I felt that for $3.25 a cupcake- they could decorate it a little more nicely than putting what appeared to be a half of a Rollo candy on top.

I wish this new business well. I will give them another shot when they have had time to tweek their baking times, alter the recipes, and iron out the quirks.

Yay!!  I am so happy I went there today.  Some of my coworkers came back to our news room with an assortment of cute cupcakes -- although I didn't get any that time, I rushed over there before it was time to go home.  I was sad when they announced they ran out of the Red Velvet, which is my favorite, but I was intrigued by their vanilla and chocolate flavors.  I settled for strawberry -- my second favorite and was not disappointed.

It melted in my mouth and I can't wait to try the Red Velvet cupcake.  Early arrival is necessary!

A lovely co-worker left a lovely little cupcake on my desk the other  afternoon from Loves Cupcakes. Hallelujah! It's finally open! And although I didn't go inside of the store to pick up this little goodie, I have peeked in scores of times over the past year as the "coming soon" sign in the window called to me.

The store is quaint and modestly sized....but it's a cupcake store after all, how big of a place do you need?

I had their mini red velvet cupcake which is the perfect size for an afternoon pick me up. The frosting had a whimsical piping pattern which I enjoyed and the flavor of the cream cheese was spot on. As for the cake itself, it had a beautiful rich red color that we all love but I needed it to have a little more "oompf" of flavor. Maybe a little more cocoa powder?

As for now, I'll give it 3 stars. We'll see what the other flavors taste like :)

After reading their reviews this may sound redundant but I don't love Love's. I can certainly say I like them but love doesn't even come close. Or maybe I should say I just "kinda like" Love's.

i was eager to try their cup cakes because I have this red velvet cupcake fetish and have to have one as often as my waist line will allow it. Also, it is close to my job so that is a plus. Too bad food isn't like real estate and high marks aren't earned by location, location, location.

As to why I kinda like Love's, the red velvet cup cake was pretty decent. It comes close to the Betty Crocker cake mix but what sets it apart is the cream cheese frosting. I assume that makes it worth spending the same as I would on 3 boxes of Betty Crocker, right?

But..... the chocolate cup cake was not so good. It was somewhat dry in and the frosting reminded me of Cool Whip in a strawberry color. If I wasn't sharing the chocolate cup cake I may have not even finished it.

Though the cup cakes aren't exceptionally good at least the decor is cute and fun.

Since math was never my favorite subject here is my simple equation to sum of Love's:

2.25 for the cupcakes (minus the chocolate one)
+
1 for decor
=
3.25 as a whole.

Always on the hunt for a new, better cupcake, I was hoping that maybe the previous low reviews for Love's cupcakes were from opening day issues.  Unfortunately it didn't seem to be the case...

The place was small, but nice and clean.  The staff was friendly and quick to help.  They seemed to have a decent assortment on hand including:

Red Velvet (regular and mini)
Hummingbird
Banana
Mocha
Vanilla with milk chocolate frosting
Lemon
Fleur de Sel
Coconut
and one or two others...

I didn't try the 'make your own' as a group had gathered, but I bought half a dozen cupcakes to bring home and try.  The cupcakes were expensive and on the smaller side for the over $3 price tag and the texture and taste was just ok overall.  The frosting was a little on the skimpy side... while the flower was cute, it almost seemed to emphasize how small the cupcake itself actually was.  I might try it again... or at least go back for the red velvet. I have the coupon for buy 2 get 1 free in August, and I would like to check out the 'make your own' cupcake, but as it was, I was underwhelmed.

Oh shoot. :( I should have known that it was too good to be a true.

I live around the corner from Loves, so I've been waiting VERY patiently for this place to open.  Their "Coming Soon" sign had been up since May 2008 (which was a very mean trick, indeed), but I would always let it slide. "Good things come to those who wait," I kept telling myself, as I skipped along, passing the chained-up store front and imagining my first bite of ooey-gooey chocolatey cupcake goodness.

Fast forward to the Grand Opening on July 25th, 2009, the day that all of my cupcake dreams were to come true.  I walk in with my husband, starry-eyed like Alice in Wonderland. Before I can even blink, a nice lady hands me a free sample - perfect! The moment has finally come. I look at my husband with a child-like grin, peel the paper from the confetti cupcake and...*record screech* "Wait a second," I pause. "Is this Betty Crocker funfetti mix?" There was only one way to find out, so I bit into the little morsel and...er...*chomp, chomp*..."Oh no!" I think to myself, as I slowly lift my sad eyes toward my husband. "Could it be? Is it true?!" I swoop my finger through the tiny dollop of frosting and give it a stealth lick, just to be sure.

And yes, it was true.

For all along, Loves Cupcakes was a mere fantasy of squishily-moist cupcakes oozing with decadent flavor and dripping in magically-delicious frosting.  I was quickly forced into reality where the awful truth was this: the cupcakes were very sad. :( Not only did they lack personality, but they were dry and crumbly like a stale muffin. Strangest of all, they were lacking sugar and tasted (dare I say)...salty!

I felt obliged to continue with my order, even though you couldn't have paid me to take a second bite of the sample. My husband and I walked away with our two cupcakes - red velvet and carrot cake - heads hanging low, dreams ALMOST crushed. We opened the box of cupcakes as we turned the corner and a tiny fleck of hope twinkled in our eyes. "1,2,3," we counted, mustering up a bit of glee as we simultaneously bit into our choices...

...and it was at that very moment that the magic faded (and the cupcakes were tossed into the nearest garbage can). A sad day in cupcake-land, indeed, for Loves is a land of which I will never return.

I looooooove Love's Cupcakes! I stopped in for the first time today. I'm a really big Sprinkles fan and I don't like Kara's. I got the Fleur de Sel, Black & White, Vanilla, and Chocolate Dream.

I loooove the texture of the actual cake, especially the Fleur de Sel.  It was nice and moist, not too heavy and not too fluffy (which I really hate.)  The majority of the cupcakes were frosted with whipped cream (which is one thing I don't like about Kara's) but it's a little bit more substantial, so I'm guessing that they stabilize it a little.  Anyway, it was good and I enjoyed all the flavors thoroughly.

The lady working was really nice and made sure to acknowledge me as she was taking a large order from another customer. It's definitely a different style of cupcake compared to chain bakeries, in a very good way.

OMG LOVE IT!  It says it in the name!

So yeah, they had a bit of a hard start on their opening day.  It's a family owned business, and it's their first store.  But I must say, their cupcakes have improved tremendously - in size as well!

My faves: Strawberry Madness, Fleur de Sel, Red Velvet.

Had a chat with April (store baker and owner) and she's so freakin NICE.  She's a doll.  She's really committed to what she does, and to satisfying her customers.

LOVE THE STORE!  Seems right for a shop named Loves.

This review is based on the fact that there was a Coming Soon sign hanging out front for well over a year before this shop actually opened.

I don't feel they were prepared for a Grand Opening. I went in Saturday morning and asked for a menu to browse before ordering. All they had is what was on the wall. Names of their cupcakes with no explanation and when I asked what one in particular consisted of the girl frankly didn't know. She also told me that not all of the flavors were available, just what was in the display case. So I asked for one of each since there were only 6 different varieties. I used my bring a friend coupon so that was cool.

I felt bad for starting a long line behind me due to all of my questions, but if they simply had printed menus available that would not have happened.

I ended up walking out with the banana nut, vanilla, red velvet, and the free cupcake- not sure what it is. They did not give me one of every flavor like I asked.

As for taste, it's really mediocre. Like something I would bake myself at home. Miracakes are still the best I've ever tasted and I'll continue to order those for special occasions. But in a pinch, when I feel like having a cupcake, I'll drop $3.25 since the location is convenient.

I walked into Love's not really knowing what to expect. I picked the Chocolate Orange cupcake and it was good but not the best that I've ever had. I prefer the frosting on a sprinkle's cupcake to theirs although both are tasty. Actually I kinda have a soft spot for the frosting that's on costco cakes :P The cake itself was tasty, soft and fluffy. I actually liked the cake part more than the frosting. Anyway Loves has an adorable name, very cute storefront, and friendly service. If you're looking for a cute dessert place to go after a dinner date or a place to grab something sweet with friends, this place won't disappoint.

Loves Cupcakes, let me get this straight. You're located next to a university and near a lot of clubs. You make the perfect stoner food. Yet you close at 9pm? (7pm on weekdays). Someone needs to rethink their business model.

I got the red velvet cupcake here - unlike other reviewers I liked it a lot - good texture (not too dry) and delicious cream cheese frosting. I also tried my friend's caramel cupcake, which was dry and just not very good. So it seems like this place is capable of making a good cupcake but is hit or miss.

I'm always looking for the next best cupcakery and this place sure does beat Kara's! I didn't want to ruin my appetite for dinner so I only had 1 mini but left w/a dozen for those at home. The blueberry lemon was to die for! Not too sweet with a tart icing. Yum-o! My other faves were the strawberry madness and lemon supreme. Not so great flavors? Sadly, red velvet and coconut. :( Can't wait till my next sugar filled visit!

Went to the grand opening and used my "bring a friend get a free cupcake" coupon.  The store is adorable and it definitely stands out among the mojito bar, Cinnabar, and the Indian restaurant on the same block.  Staff was super friendly and many "thank you"s were exchanged during the transaction.

Now on to the cupcakes.  I didn't think they were bad, I just didn't think they were worth $3.25.  I would expect something a bit larger and definitely more frosting!  I didn't do the build your own cupcake option, so perhaps that would've been the way to go.  The ones we tried were the red velvet, chocolate delight, and coconut. There's very little seating at the store and any outdoor seating they had wasn't ideal either just because they are on a busy street (San Fernando).

As a work-break indulgence, I was hoping this would be my new spot, but I would much rather go to Phillz Coffee or Yolicious for a treat.

I would have preferred having a selection, but my husband and I arrived around 8:30pm a couple of weeks ago (maybe opening weekend?) and nothing was available except red velvet. No biggie, I like red velvet, but what I like even more is options. Also, there was no menu advertising the flavors that are usually served. huh? I would have waited a week or two to get a menu/storefront up and a hearty stock of goods before announcing any openings.

The cupcake itself was good (maybe a 7), cream cheese frosting made it.

We may be back. We may not.

I've been waiting for this place to open up for about a year.  My coworker and I went for an afternoon treat.  I was not overly impressed with the cupcake but I didn't find it awful.  I hadn't realized that my order was messed up until I got back to my office, but I originally wanted two mini cupcakes but was given a mini and a regular size.  Oh well, I ate the regular lemon cupcake and it was decent.  Flavor was pretty good, icing wasn't too sweet, although there was a lot of it.

I can't say that it changed my life, like I usually like my baked goods to be but it was ok and the sugar helped my afternoon sluggishness.

What I like best about Love's is that their cupcakes are the sugar bombs most bakery cupcakes are. They are lighter on the sugar, so the flavor of the cupcake has a chance to come out.

I've tried the Red Velvet, Chocolate Dream (love the pink frosting), Strawberry Madness, and the Fleur de Sel. I loved the Red Velvet , Chocolate Dream, and Strawberry Madness - fluffy cake and good frosting. The Fleur de Sel was a bit drier and was fairly salty (I know I know, the Sel stands for salt; I just think in this case it could have been a bit sweeter).

What make's Love's good is that you know you'll get a quality cupcake each time. I'd love to see them they expand some of their flavors.

I live downtown and walk by Loves Cupcakes' storefront almost daily. I have been anticipating their arrival like a child anticipates Christmas. I stopped by on my way home from work yesterday and picked up a few cupcakes for my husband and me to have for dessert.

The shop itself is cute and whimsical. The cupcakes look pretty. I was kinda bummed that there were no displayed descriptions of the cupcakes; I didn't want to ask the lady behind the counter, I just like to order and go.

Apparently they sell "pupcakes," dog-friendly cupcakes, but these weren't listed anywhere! Had I known, I probably would have gotten some for my two dogs. The lady behind the counter listed off the ingredients to me after I inquired about them. I only found out about them when a woman, who started talking to the lady behind the counter while I was ordering my cupcakes, said her dog loved them. Oh, and she brought her dog into the shop. Yes it was in a travel bag, but still.

The red velvet cake was not red-velvety enough. The cream cheese frosting was good though. The Hummingbird was alright, but nothing to write home about. And I think I would be okay with paying the price for their cupcakes if they tasted better. I will try them again later, maybe they're still working the kinks out.

I hit up the grand opening this morning. I tried every flavor except for vanilla. The angel food is special, a moist delicious little thing. My friend liked banana the best (somewhat like a banana nut bread with buttercream frosting). You can stay and enjoy your treats at the shop, or take them with in a secure (plain) box.

Some other flavors available are chai, red velvet, and chocolate. You can customize a vanilla or chocolate cupcake with a choice of frosting and toppings, as you would ice cream. They have regular and decaf coffee from a decanter and real half-n-half or flavored creamer. No lids for the coffee cups. There is also milk and some other drinks for sale. The cupcakes are all attractive, topped with a flower of frosting as opposed to a full head.

In comparison to Sprinkle's and Kara's in Palo Alto. I have to say that if you are looking for a chocolate fix, I would stick with either of those rather than Love's. Also, if you want tostop a while and have a full on Cupcake Experience, it might be better to walk on to SJSU campus or the Fairmount Plaza rather than planning on staying at Love's.

I went back about 7pm with a friend, and they had run out of cupcakes - ? I am not sure if this is a good or a bad sign - are the cupcakes not baked on premises - ? At the same time, I agree that a place like this really fills a gap in downtown San Jose, especially if they can keep the cupcakes available at night. I can see myself stopping by for more angel food, then riding on to Philz or Caffe Trieste for coffee and to hang out.
