Talk about the new (old) hang out!
This entire area (not just "Lover's Point Park") is sooooooooo wonderful. Off the beaten path & away from the touristy/ trendy Monterey.
The beach, water, & wild life are up close & personal. The residents of Pacific Grove & people in general are very nice & personable. The area is well maintained & respected. It's quiet & peaceful (no ninjas & Harley's roaring through the streets).
The beaches are wheelchair/walker accessible, dog friendly, kid friendly, & you can bring your own BBQ! What more can I say - I love PG & Lover's Point.
Ocean squirrels roam these rocks, which overlook the sea. For this alone, Lover's Point garners five stars.
But really, there is a charm and natural beauty here that reflects what I love about Pacific Grove. Watching kayaks drift out to sea, listening to seagulls fly above, hearing sea otters in the distance, daydreaming about owning my own little cottage along the water, searching for tidepools...
I have fond memories of this place.

Beautiful place, and climbing the rocks is fun. You can also spot sea otters out in the ocean.

A great park! Really scenic ocean front park! Nice grassy areas for a picnic or some light sports. A rocky point to climb on, which is probably not the safest thing to do in the world, but sure is fun. There a rocky shoreline that is uncovered during low tide for a tidepooling kind of experience. Plenty of above shore wild life like birds, otters, and seals. There's even a little snack shack and place to rent kayaks and stuff open during the summer. Public restrooms are available and opened daily around 8 or 9 in the morning.
The biggest draw for me is the protected dive entry on inner lover's. Even on the roughest of days, you can probably enter here with little or no problem. There's even a nice landing with bench build into the wall which makes a great place to put your gear together, settle your final dive plans, and don your gear before entering. There's great sea life too, probably my favorite dive spot in the area when there's some swell. If you're willing to make the swim out to edge of the kelp line, there's people who pay 100 bucks a day for boat to drop them off at the same place.
Be sure to check with a local guide or dive with someone who has dove here before, if you're not used to diving around here.
I've never had trouble parking here, since there's lot space with a 2hr limit with some exceptions for weekends and holidays (I think) and a ton of street parking if that's filled.

I've been here twice this year and the second time was as great as the first. This place is so much fun. Climbing the rocks and taking fun pictures and the beautiful view you get from every angle. There's a little beach area just a stairway away. Or the park where you can have a nice picnic, be careful of the squirrels that are not scared of humans. There's also a walkway along the park. The diner there looks okay, but I'd recommend going to a restaurant nearby or just go to Cannery Row that's only five minutes away. Just come! There's no way to be disappointed.
Really a beautiful park to go see! Lush green grass and steep steps down to the beach coupled with some pretty interesting Rock Scapes makes this place a great place to see!
Lot's of picture opportunities at this park with lots of sculptures, etc.
The only thing that is hit or miss is the cleanliness of the restrooms...someday's they are fine while others your better off digging a hole in the sand to pee in. (I am NOT suggesting that you do this!! It's just for effect! :) )
As we were driving along we stopped by this park. The 1st thing you'll notice is the lush green grass & huge trees. The weather was cold, but there were still people having picnics & I can see why. I only noticed 2 picnic tables, but where they were located were great. They had a perfect view of the bay. There was also another great view of the bay by these boulders that I saw. If you're willing to climb a little bit it will be worth it. Once you get to the top you have a perfect view of Monterey. If you're looking for a nice place to take your sweet heart then come here. You can have a nice little picnic, sit under the trees, or have a nice quiet moment sitting on the rocks. Which ever choice you choose you'll always have a great view of Monterey.
I wouldn't make a special trip to Pacific Grove just for the park but it is one of the coolest small parks I have ever seen. It's got a tiny beach, a decent amount of grass with picnic benches and a rock railing that goes for most of the park that you can sit on also. The rocks on the ocean that you can climb on are cool and I even saw a couple getting some wedding photos taken there.
Free parking on the streets which was ample on a Sunday. Lot of people were running, biking, or renting bikes.
Some really great views and has a different feel to it from some of the other ocean towns in CA.
absolutely breath taking here! The views are out of this world! Great place for a picnic with that special someone, or heck even the family! Best time to come is when the butterflies are in town beginning in late October. Its amazing seeing so many Monarchs!
Lover's Point is worth a visit.
Warnings:
-Kites that dive toward your head & parents that laugh at you running away from their children's kites diving toward your head.
-Many bridesmaid dresses.
-A lot of fleece-covered tourists... A lot!
-Some of the birds in the area have started a coup and will fly right at your head.
Why the aforementioned only takes away one star:
-Beautiful view, and plenty of photo opportunities. (Bring your tripods.)
-The beach gets great sun before noon. It is sunny enough to dip your feet on lucky days.
-It could just be the name, but it is a great place to catch a smooch, or five, from your lover(s).
-You can sit on a rock, and feel as if you are on top of the world.
-You can take your shoes off, and feel the grass between your toes.
-You can have a picnic here. I suggest "hookah-ing" it out here.
-The list goes on....
I am not saying that this should be "your spot" or anything, but I do think this is worth a stop.

Why don't we have a "Yeah we don't want to get married but at least we aren't backstabbing cunts" Point?
Anyways, for those that are all about the Love and creating beautiful moments to enjoy for the rest of your life this park and little parcel of beach do it up quite nice. The grass in the park seemed very well maintained and I really wanted to kick my slippers off and just feel it all between my toes. The beach is very small but it was big enough to hold my brother and sister-in-laws wedding party.
Maybe one day I'll care enough about someone to have a "Hey I really like you and trust that you won't go choking on some random asshole's cock every time you have two vodka sodas" kind of ceremony here. Probably not though.

Nice park and beach area, the water is bright blue in some areas and looked tempting to go in. Nice gathering of unique looking rocks and gives you a moment to hold a love one's hand and enjoy the scenery.
Definitely the biggest tourist draw next to cannery row. If you have to come here, please stay the hell out of my pictures!
Also, there are a few restaurants nearby, 2 motels within walking distance, and an outdoor volleyball court. This is also where a lot of kayakers enter to get out into the open seas.
I would be careful of standing on the highest rocks during bad weather as several people have been eaten alive by the waves.
Rent a bike and go down to the rocky points that have a better beach.

I never swam here.
I goofed off with my friend who used to work at the rental place.
I sat on the beach and relaxed.
I watched some silly people play hacky sack while I relaxed on the grass.
I read a whole book in one day there.
I watched a friend train for a triathalon and totally fail attempting to navigate the kelp beds.
I watched the undulating calm from a nearby apartment window of a home I almost rented.
This place is amazing... and my recent memories are dwarfed by my early childhood memories. So crazy.
So beautiful!

The view is breathtaking! The sand is huge like playground sand.. it's interesting.
This place is awesome to people watch and relax. As i was laying down in complete vegetation, i couldnt think about anything. ANYTHING. What a great way to spend the end of my week. So chill, i will definately be returning.

Agree, not only for lovers!
Beautiful like everyone else said.
Great for running! It's mostly flat and good distance.
Reasons to visit Pacific Grove:
The Annual Feast of Lanterns
http://www.feast-of-la.../
and my home beach -- we have photos with me as early as a year of age on this beach...eating sand I'm sure...
go, see, do...and DIVE if you are able! will never forget the summer we all saw JAWS...then NONE of us wanted to learn to scuba dive OR surf...
back in the day there was a glass bottom boat...and I have many wonderful memories of this beach...and tidepooling in the same place that Doc Ricketts conducted his marine research...and the train coming through here...read Steinbeck's Cannery Row...and glimpse back in time...it hasn't changed all that much...

This is a must see when you go down to PG. The rocks brought back childhood memories.
When I checked in @ our hotel, the FD host suggested to take the "walk" to lover's point. I was so delighted we did go, because we got cool pictures and got a bench to ourselves and just watched the waves rush in.

Forego the park, unless you want to compete with a gaggle of performance fleece-clad tourists for a panoramic photo op of the bay and, well, other tourists. Scale the rocks [dusk or dawn, for those breathtaking views] and see the water and marine life up close for yourself; but be wary of the waves! I swear they threaten to swallow you whole.

FYI...you can just drive by it on your way to 17-mile, skip the stop and just admire on the drive by
It feels a bit weird reviewing a random park with a rocky point (as opposed to a restaurant or bar), but if you're looking for something to do specifically in Pacific Grove, this should be on the list. It does admittedly get crowded (as I noticed while driving by the second time around). The first (and only) time I actually walked into the park, it was around dusk and the full moon was rising. The moon shadow glimmered in the water, and the rocky crevices created multiple good nestling areas for couples or families to dream, photograph, or cuddle. It's a short walk from the downtown, so I would suggest avoiding the small parking lot hassle and park away from this touristy spot.
BEAUTIFUL! one of the best places for picnics or barbecues. Great place to meet up with some friends. Amazing views!

Great views, and it's free! Plus, nice strolling on either side of park along bluff. Would love to rent a kayak! Good beachcombing and/or tidepooling, as well.

Awesome views! It's very relaxing and breathtaking just sitting on the rocks and taking it all in especially on a nice, sunny day! Great place to just hang out :)

So many good memories here as a kid. Used to be ballsy enough to swim out quite far. Not sure if I'd do that anymore since you can get tangled up in those kelp beds. You can throw parties in the picnic area but don't feed the squirrels. I saw a lady get bit once.

I overheard my boss and one of our patient's talking about Lover's Point and I wanted to check it out if I was ever in the area. I had it on my list of things to see for the day, after the food & wine festival, but we accidentally ran into it in the morning and we had time to kill so we went. The view is so beautiful and it really is a Lover's Point. It would be a cute place to have a bbq or just to sit in the park, on the beach or on the rocks. There were also a bunch of fisherman out in the morning and they look like they were catching stuff.

I came here for my initial open water certification and missed a lot of what there was to see. Today I went freediving here and had a blast, It sure felt good to get back in the ocean again. I'll be back again soon.
