How have I not reviewed this place.

It's where I go for quick sammys that always taste good and Consistent .  Sure there are a lot more specialty sandwich shops, but this is where I get my basic salami sandwich... usually when drunk.

Small deli that is open late and is cash only (there is an ATM in the corner)

Good beverage selection (including squirt in a glass bottle)

Portions are generous - the wife and I shared the:

Love N' haight special. 1 sandwich filled us both up.
For me the 3 stars of the sandwich was the yummy avocado.Good falafel.

Small place with only one lady behind the counter and another worker that I dubbed "Chuckles".

For the dill pickle fans out there: Pickle for a dollar was worth it.

First off let me say that I'm sort of a sandwich snob. Not that I need something fancy but something of the ordinary is what I look for in a sandwich. For example, my favorite place ever is Little Luccas in SSF and burlingame. Their sandwiches don't have amazing/unique ingredients but the one thing they do have is their special garlic sauce and pepper sauce. To me that gives sandwiches a whole new meaning.

Anyways, so this place is a great for a decent sandwich. Prices are super affordable and they like to pile on the meat. Other places portion it so you don't get a heaping pile of meat but here, if you ask for two meats.. they just give you two portions.. AWESOME! I love how they have more than just regular mustard so I lathered on the honey mustard. The staff is friendly and always has a smile on. I'll be back here again but probably for a late bite since it stays open so late.

I just devoured one of the most delectable falafel sandwiches I've had in a really long time.  My girlfriend and I just arrived here from LA an hour ago and, so far, SF is living up to the hype.

My friend and I were gonna eat at the Ethiopian restaurant nearby, but we realized it was closed for lunch... so we started looking around and we found this little hole in the wall sandwich place. Ahhhhhh I LOVE hole in the wall sandwich places!!!!! The sandwiches here remind me a lot of Erik's Deli sandwiches, which is a really good thing because Erik's Deli is awesome, except these guys here have way more vegetarian and vegan options. I'm not even vegetarian and I still got a sandwich with faux chicken and it was pretty darn good :D I also liked the Atlantis artwork and the freakydeaky bloody hand coming out of the ceiling bahahah ;P

Their [sic] vege duck, a mock meat, sandwich is killer, and packed with all sorts of veggie goodness sweaty with tasty condiments. I'm a huge fan of sprouts so the obscene amount they shove in each of their creations only makes me a happy man, but I've heard complaints about their inclusion. (But it's best not to pay attention to such silly complaints about there being more stuff than one requires.) All of this on toasty bread, of which there are several kinds, and it is the best sandwich to have for pretty much any occasion, but especially in the summer! Pick up one of those oversized prepackaged cookies at the register (which are still better and more wholesome than nearly any other cookie in a plastic wrap) and that's lunch seven days a week.

The deli is really small and i didn't even notice it for a while but they do have seating inside if you wish to eat the sandwiches there. I have had sandwiches from this deli a couple times and they have been amazing each time. Their faux meat is extremely good and taste / texture is freakishly similar to real meat. It kinda freaked me out at first but I got over it.

I've had the vegan duck sandwich and the vegan chickensteak sandwich so far. Both were amazing. If you want them vegan you have to ask them to exclude mayo. Everything else is good to go!

The sandwiches are reasonably priced, approximately 6 or 7 dollars each. They are cash only so be prepared! I am definitely going to be coming here more often! I want to try out the rest of their faux meat because there are lots to choose from! =]

Love N Haight has the best vegetarian sandwiches in the city. I usually get the fake chicken on a french roll. I love how they come out hot and tasty. The people who work there are friendly and fast. The best part is you can take it to go and bring it into Toronado's or Molitov's. These are the best sandwiches to accompany a beer.

I ain't no vegetarian but I'm loving this place.

    THEY HAVE THE BEST SANDWICHES.

Recommend: Roast duck on the dutch crutch roll with avocado.

    Good service. Friendly staff.

There's only one lady making the sandwiches so be patient.
    Parking? Good luck.
    Opens late night.

I have driven to SF from Oakland just for the sandwiches for about 3 times so far.
I've even taken the bart/bus for the sandwiches before haha (DESPERATE)

Really unassuming little place in the Haight. I kinda had to look twice not to miss it!

My husband and I split the vegan chicken steak sandwich on sourdough, and we really liked it! I thought the vegan chicken was a little dry, but the avocado we got on the sandwich did help some with that. The sandwich was HUGE, and definitely enough for two people! The price was really good, I forget exactly how much it was, but I know it was under $10 for a sandwich and a drink (and I added avo to the sandwich, which was an additional small cost).

Overall, worth checking out :). Plus, I love the name!!

PS: I'm pretty sure there's little to no room to eat in the actual place, so be sure to be ready to carry it out! It's pretty close to Duboce Park & Alamo Square, so there are picnic spots galore nearby! :)

It's all about the Vegan Chicken Steak sandwich! It's a simple sandwich with your normal fixings (with optional hummus, avocado, etc.) but it's so satisfying and at a price you can't beat.

Also, there's a decent selection of chips, drinks, and vegan cookies (via alternative baking company.) Combine this with friendly employees/owners and late night hours, you've got a great little sandwich joint.

FYI, if one of their vege options on the board does not say vegan, it's probably not. And make sure you ask for your sandwich without mayo (again, if you're vegan.) If they had optional vegenaise, my heart would be full.

Vegan Smoked Duck sandwich for the win! All of the veggies, on rye, please! I don't even know what real duck tastes like, and maybe now I don't wanna know. Friendly ladies behind the counter were kind enough to let me charge my phone while I ate there (Silly tourist!). Toronado's is all-too-conveniently located next door.

Fresh ingredients, creative menu options, clean shop, fast service, good prices.

Eat a sammy. Drink a Pliney. Be hoppy.

At 1am on a Monday, Love N Haight saved my life. I was waiting for the N-owl after a long night at the bar. I was desperate for some food and the vegan options are scant at that time of morning. I rolled in here, got a sandwich and ate it on the bus. IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER. If they had vegan mayo it would have been better, but still awesome. The next day all I could do was talk about this sandwich but I was not convinced that it was that awesome since I was drunk. I had to go back and try again, and it was also awesome.

Tip: make sure to get the sourdough roll, not the sliced bread. I made that mistake when I went a few months ago and it was mediocre. On the right bread the sandwich will rock your world.

I have fallen in love with this little deli.
And I hate myself for not coming here sooner.

The typical carnivore might not be impressed, but it's the assortment of delicious faux meat that sets this place apart. Not that I am a die hard sandwich lover, but all this time I figured my morals have condemned me to a life of veggie burgers and tomato mozzarella sandwiches. Both being favorites of mine- but the lack of variety was starting to wear on me. Mock meats aren't too common in delis and restaurants, but when you come across them- I find them to be better than the real deal.

The meatless chicken is a very generous portion- almost too generous. I'd opt for the vegan chicken, which is shaped more like a patty and not as overwhelming. The faux duck is the next on my list- which appears to be one of the more popular choices.

Keep in mind- this is a hole in the wall. Perfect for take out AND open until 2am. (cash only)

They have the largest selection of chips, drinks and vegan cookies too. Did I mention that they are open till 2 in the morning? Best drunk food ever. Pain in the ass that it's cash only, but they do have an ATM inside for when you forget.

It took me a while to get this just right:

    -veggie chicken steak;
    -toasted whole wheat;
    -add swiss cheese;
    -add avocado;
    -hummus instead of mayo;
    -everything else.

Makes me feel good just typing it.

I've only had one sandwich here, the Love N Haight  special.

The Up - Great falafel, tasty hummus, lots of veggies, incredibly filling. I was impressed with the veg*n options on the menu. It was the best selection I've ever seen at a deli.

The Down - Ease up on the hummus a little! there was so much that it was kind of killing the taste of everything else. I had to scrape some of it out of my sammy to enjoy it.

For me, this deli rocks.  They make amazing sandwiches for very good prices, for very picky customers (veggies, gluten-free lettuce wraps, etc.)  I would say it's the In N' Out of delis (though, of course, not a chain) -- lots of unusual varieties on a very simple theme (think animal-style lettuce wrap sandwiches).  I also like the exotic chips they feature (usually dried fruit of an unusual kind).  All in all, Love N Haight is a great local deli featuring food for everyone at an amazing price.  Really, though, a locals only place -- I wouldn't travel to Lower Haight just to get a sandwich here.

This is the best sandwich-deli in the Lower Haight. Eating the vegetarian sandwiches makes me very happy  - they are cheap, fresh, healthy, and delicious. Great selection of drinks (from delicious Amy and Brian's coconut juice to Coke in its classic glass bottles). There is also room to sit and eat which is nice. The only crappy thing is its cash only.

just finished one of the best veggie sandwiches i've ever had: the fake chicken meat sandwich on wheat and loaded with veggies! Would have appreciated a little more of the fake tofu meat, but for $5.50 this is still a good deal.  Apparently they are open until 2am so now there's no excuse for not eating healthy at any hour of the day (or night)

    Surprisingly tasty for fake meat!

I love meat, but every so often I like to experiment with fake meat. Nothing wrong with that. I got the Vege Smoked Duck on Dutch Crunch and it was really good. Didn't taste anything like duck, but that's ok. It had this smokey taste and it wasn't too rubbery (b/c you know fake meat can get funky and rubbery).

My sandwich was huge and only cost $6 or $7 (can't remember since I also picked up food for friend). I polished off the whole thing and didn't feel like I had a pit in my stomach afterward. I'd definitely come here again!

It's not fast food - only one lady making the food and manning the register, so be patient.

    Loved it...

Went in late night for a roast beef sandwich...

Got it on Dutch Crunch roll... SOOO GOOD...

Made in under 2 minutes, with a perfect balance of all the standard sandwich ingredients with the addition of sprouts, and out the door for $5 flat...  I will definitely be back, especially late night when nothing but burritos are open in the Mission... It's nice to find something REALLY good, homemade and cheap that's open late, with friendly staff and tons of veggie/vegan options too.

    Thanks!

Love N Haight sure has a special variety of sandwiches, especially if you're a vegan/vegan fan.

I've been to this little spot a couple times. Throughout my experience, the sandwiches were consistently tasteful. I had only two sandwiches throughout my time eating here; Vegan Chicken Steak and Vegan Duck. Both have this unusual taste that's so addicting. Trust me, it's well worth your money. And, I'm not even a Vegetarian!

They have handful varieties of chips and drinks to choose from. Name it, most likely got em. Overall, the sandwiches has a great twist of taste that keeps me craving for it more and more.

We roamed over to Love N Haight Deli because of the amazing reviews from Yelpers. I even heard on their website about them having the most amazing vegan meatball sub in the US (voted by PETA). So I headed over hungry and excited to have the best vegan sandwiches and meatballs ever.

Well, they never have heard about a vegan meatball sub or even a meatball sub. So I sadly ordered a vegan chicken cutlet sandwich on sourdough with the regular toppings. They had veganaise and that was also a delight.

The sandwich was ok, but I've had better. They heated it up in a small toaster oven, slapped some lettuce on it and called it a day. So, meh for the food. It's cool they have the vegan options on the board, but I wouldn't come again.

If you aren't careful you can end up with a sandwich bigger than your mouth.  You might be one of those jerks that thinks that's a good thing, but it's not.  Sure, you can try and cram it in there, but let's be honest - it's just too big.  And you don't need to eat that much.  Really, you don't.  But you will any way, since it's fucking delicious.  Game over.

PS. I always think it's weird when people order non-veg*n stuff here.  Don't make me feel weird.

Love N Haight was unexpectedly really good. When I heard my friend say "vegan" & "fake duck", I was a bit thrown off. Why would I want vegan food? I'm a carnivore & cheese lover. My low expectations were definitely lifted after a bite of their sandwich.

Fortunately, we didn't go as far as to pick a vegan choice but more of a vegetarian choice. We got our sandwich on dutch crunch (they had an array of bread choices), pepper jack, the condiment & veggie fixins' & the vegan choice of meat which apparently was suppose to taste like duck. IT WAS SO GOOD. The sandwiches were like $5 dollars & all of us devoured ours & left crumbs in a matter of minutes.

The best thing about this place is that its in the heart of Haight St. amidst the bars & its OPEN LATE! Great for drunchies (drunken-munchies lol). However, make sure you bring cash or know where an ATM is. CASH ONLY!

Yo, word. I judge sandwiches by taste first and foremost over anything else. Love 'n Haight delivers that plus size and value. I usually get vegetarian sammies, but I don't doubt the yumminess of their other ones. I first went to this place in March and I think I'll go again. Today. Win.

Came in on the late late last night. Ordered the Turkey on Sourdough w/ L&T, light onions, mayo and black pepper.

I can say I was impressed by how fast the service was. Because it came up in like under 3 mins. When I ate it, I noticed that there wasn't a generous amount of meat on it. There were literally 2 slices. Now, I guess that's ok, if you just want something to appease your appetite. But, I wanted a sandwich. What I got was a fast take on a sandwich. The service was friendly and attentive. The downside is they didn't have a toaster, and didn't gut the inside of my roll. So, I literally ate like a full Sourdough Roll.

That's why I love 3rd ave. Food Mart. Tony makes the best sandwiches in the Bay! He stacks the meat nicely, He goes down the options list as each portion of the sandwich is made. You can tell he takes pride in his sandwiches. He toasts the bread. He isn't 1, 2, 3 and I'm done. He perfects the art of sandwich making. He can melt the cheese and heat up the meat together.... Soo Sooo good. Tony makes sandwiches the right way. Plus, you get the chips and a drink...

I can see how this place would be great for vegans and vegetarians, but I wouldn't advise my fellow meat eaters to go out of your way to come here. The non-vegan sandwiches are your standard "pick your meat, pick your cheese, and pick your condiments" that you can easily make for yourself at home.

The vegan sandwiches are more interesting. I'm not usually a fan of tofu-based fake meats, but thanks to many Yelpers' accolades I tried the "smoked duck" sandwich, and I must admit it was not bad. It did taste a bit like duck and the texture - usually the downfall of fake meat for me - was pretty close.

If Love N Haight was marketed as a vegan-only restaurant then it wouldn't be fair for me to criticize it based on my meat-eating tendencies, but since they serve both I think their boring meat sandwiches are fair game in my review.

Perhaps my sandwich standards have risen since my first visit. Don't get me wrong, totally dug the veggie duck (a favorite of yelpers that prompted me to come back for seconds), just didn't blow me away. They are still rocking the wheat rolls as well as tons of veggie options.

Wonder if I'd be feeling the fifth star if I ate the same sandwich on top of Dolores Park. Everything is better up there.

Love N Haight. War & Peas. If it's a pun, it's all Gouda with me!

Some say that a pun is the lowest form of humor, but a good play on words has always made me smile. I have a feeling that when Love N Haight opened up, they beat more than a few people to the punch. I've been hearing about how good their vege duck sandwiches are for the last two years from a friend of mine who not only loves the real thing, but buys duck fat to cook up some high caloric potatoes at home. Now that's some quack happy grease I can't say no to! Needless to say, I had to see if the expert was right.

I walked into Love N Haight and anxiously awaited the arrival of my feather friendly, meatless sandwich as well as their vege peppered steak version. No sprouts available today, but 5 minutes after I stood at the counter I was lovin my first bite. Tasty, soft and crunchy--I am hooked! Each sandwich half is the size of a 99 cent cheeseburger, but 99% better for you. Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I like to give myself kudos for trying to be a little healthier. OK, scratch that--I ate a bag of chips selected from not just a couple of varieties, but SEVENTEEN kinds of Kettle Chips! And yes, I sat there and counted the rainbow of heavenly bags.

On the ceiling is a 60s inspired mural of San Francisco, swirling into blue ocean water with random people floating around in bubbles. As much as this sounds like a crazy tofu induced dreamscape, I found myself enjoying the character that it gives to this narrow little deli. Painted not in the Summer of Love, but in 1994 by Rebecca Dahlin, the inscription reads:
    ____

    The Enchanged Kingdom of Atlantis.
17,000 B.C. There is a theory that San Franciscans were once citizens of this city lost beneath the sea. Now we're back...We must return together to the sea.
    ____

Perhaps we should return together to a time when we were one cohesive people. Or maybe it's about returning together to respect and love nature. Whatever this artist meant, it's open to interpretation. I guess you and I will have to return together and see what else we find at Love N Haight.

I ordered a Turkey Sammy... pretty good. Fresh produce and delicious bread...and the slices weren't thin! What a score.

Went in during the night shift...The young guy working behind the counter was nice..but the older dude didn't say a damn thing.

My friend ordered the falafel (i know, she should have gone with a diff. veggie dish..come on) But, still...how do you mess up a falafel? She couldn't even eat 'em because the middle was like eating kidney stones. no joke.

but, whatever, I would hit this place up if you're looking for some yum yum after midnight.

This was my first time trying a vegan sandwich and I was pretty impressed. This place is extremely vegetarian/vegan friendly.

I chose the vegan chicken steak sandwich and I was expecting the "chicken" to be bland and dry, but it was quite the opposite. The "chicken" had a meaty texture and it was actually very tasty.

Get it on a Dutch crunch roll like I did and you'll be satisfied. It wasn't a heavy sandwich at all and for $5.49 you really can't go wrong.

It's CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM machine inside.

I absolutely love this place!  Their vegan sandwiches are delicious.  I usually order the veggie BBQ steak, but I have also tried the veggie peppersteak, veggie ham, and veggie chicken steak all of which live up up to my standards.  The best part about it is that you get a pretty big sandwich for around $6-7 (depending on what you order).  I would recommend this place to anyone, even for their non-vegan choices.
