I've contemplated dedicating my 100th review to something special and meaningful. After weeks of forcing myself not to post any reviews (just yet), I've come to the conclusion today: After getting my driver's license for the first time (i know i know, a bit late...) that I should write a review for the guy that helped me get to this wonderful moment.
Unlike some bigger driving schools that are way too corporate and make you feel insignificant, Durane Love's driving school is warm, welcoming and personal. There is only one instructor, Durane, and he's friendly, kind, patient and has a great sense of humor. On top of all, he has a way of making driving relaxing and easy--but by no means is he sloppy on the rules and details! Definitely an experienced instructor and a great teacher. The best thing about driving Love Driving School is that you always get the same guy, you don't need to worry about having to get used to different people and following different instructions each time.
I took 8 lessons with Durane and by the end of it, I felt confident and comfortable driving in Cambridge and Boston. The lessons are $40/hr now and if you buy 10 you get a discount. It doesn't seem cheap, but all the driving schools are charging at the same rate, and I thought it was $320 well spent, not a single complaint or buyers remorse.
3 weeks, 8 lessons (and some practice with my friends) later I successfully passed the driving test in 15 minutes. How awesome is that?
I selected Durant & Love Driving School based on the favorable reviews I found online and I was a satisfied customer!
I am a teacher myself, and I noticed right away that Durant was very savvy about helping people learn based their current skill level, and he is also very personable and patient. He was very attentive and struck just the right balance between telling me what I needed to do and letting me figure it out myself.
He is someone you actually enjoy spending 10 (total) hours in a car with!
Durant was very nice and helpful. It was also nice that his hours were so flexible. He also gave tips on how to pass the driving test which was great. My only complaint is that the majority of the time driving was spent driving to pick up his next appointment. After taking 9 lessons with him, I was surely able to do city driving, but knew almost nothing about parking and three-point turns.
Update on review for Simon G. I took driving lessons from Durant while I lived in Arlington. I think he only does lessons north of Boston, i.e. Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Belmont, etc. I believe Durant is the only person who gives lessons.
After 8 lessons once a week I finally got my license today! Doran is so awesome.
There were a few flaws, having to spend a few lessons just driving to pick up someone else, not telling me I needed certain forms on the day of the exam. He was comforting especially for someone who was terrified to drive.
$35 per lesson x 8 lessons for a brand new driver = $280
$100 for him to be your sponser and to use the car
$60 to the DMV to get your license
Total Cost to get my license from start to finish = $440.
Spread out over 3 months. It's not terrible. But I only had one objective in mind, and that was to get my license...and thats what Love Driving School did. 5 stars.
