LOVED THIS PLACE!
Kate H and I stopped in to warm ourselves up from the GoCars (and to take the edge off of the bad experience).
Danny, the bartender made me one, ok two, of the best bloody marys I've had in SF, complete with pickled beans. Super duper spicy, just like I like it, and strong-$4 during happy hour. We chowed down on free snack mix while people watching.
Great people watching, I mean GREAT....old women in fur DRUNK, old drunk man being lead back home by said drunk woman. Hilarious. Definitely want to come back.
And yes the bathroom is great! Free tampons, a cushy toilet seat cover. LOVE IT!Listed in: Meal in a Drink

Happy Hour from 12pm-7pm
$3 Well Drinks
$3 Chimay (bottle)
$2 Beers
FREE bowls of chips with salsa and walnuts
LOTS of little stuff in the women's restroom including a box of variety tampons... seriously, see it for yourself...
As I walk home from work today (Manic Monday), I decided to stop by Lou's at the Square for a drink... $2, that's all I wanted to spend on a beer to fulfill my craving. There was about ten people at the bar, all seem to be having a good time, drinking lots and socializing. There was an awkward silence when I entered and a lady at the end spoke, "Can I help you?"
"Yes, I need a beer!" I say.
I sat at an empty bar stool in the middle of the bar, next to me was a group of women and to my right is an older man who was drinking vodka on the rocks. The older man kept staring at me, a little creepy, but he was harmless -- talked to me some, but I wasn't paying attention. In less than forty-five minutes, I acquired two free pints of beers. Sweet!
On my third beer, Luis M., shows up, finally... thank God! I mean: thanks Luis! We finished off our drinks and headed out to dinner.
Great service (guy bartender and Lou the bartender), good people (older, locals), cheap drinks -- Lou's has become one of my weekly bar... I'm here every Sunday afternoon enjoying a Bloody Mary, baby :-)!Listed in: The NoBe (North Beach) List

Randomly ended up at this place last night when in north beach. Friendly staff~ it was grand opening night so there was free beer, wine, soda and appetizers for everyone.. (i couldn't say no to that) They also had a jazz band playing (who were great btw) and dancing on the floor. Crowd is a little bit older but nonetheless I had a great time there.
Would return when in the area =) -

The joint was jumping! The bar tenders were pros and the vibe is excellent. I had given up on Avenue G and was thrilled to see this place happen. It is what the neighborhood needs.
They said they are starting a tapas menu in the near future and I will try it.
But in the meantime I will enjoy the music. -

"there's five atm's and six banks down the street"

the price was right though -

Sorry folks but this place is gone. Eviction notice on door and everything are gone. I sure hope something good will take over this spot, such a great space.

The owner is heinous human.
Some friends and I had paid in advance to go to Lou's on Halloween. By the time we got there at 10pm the bar was packed and the owner was blocking the door. When we told her that we had paid in advance to be there she immediately started screaming things like, "fuck you", "you paid my ass" and "you damn liars". When my friend tried to explain the situtation, Lou got up in her face and yelled, "you little bitch". Not the best way for a NEW bar to treat potential patrons.
We later found out that the bar had been oversold, which notedly was not Lou's fault. She could have just said they were at capacity instead of swearing at us. Her behavior has ensured that we will never return. -

just peeked my head in on my way home from work - nice bartenders and a nice fellow standing outside drawing in some people . . . unfortunately it was like 85 degrees out, and simply too early to be inside at a bar.
by the vibe inside, and the looks of the decor, i will definitely come back later (maybe even tonight) for a beer and listen to some smooth mellow tunes. i can't say the same for the previous Avenue G unfortunately. this looks like a decent remodel, and hopefully bring some nightlife to the square. -

Went to Lou's during the North Beach parade during Fleet week and sat outside at tables they had set up for the parade. Catered food was available as kitchen is waiting final inspection from city. The food was very good. Given the crowd the service was excellent. Cash only but I believe that is only temporary due to the large crowd they had in there for the parade and festivities. Drink and food prices were very good as other reviewers have said. Once they get the cabaret approved and the kitchen open it should be a great new addition to North Beach.

Are they closed permanently? I have no idea, but apparently they decided to remodel after being open for only 6 months. Seemed like a decent spot, but was always dead...as in EMPTY. My personal opinion is they tried too hard to make it classy. Sort of felt like you were walking into a furniture store...North Beach bars need a little grunginess and character in order to get a crowd.

had been here on the http://sfcrawl.com north beach bar crawl and it was fun - tried again on a Friday evening for happy hour and was disappointed by the over-40 crowd. Fun to come with a group, but I'd stick with places down the block for young and fun.
