Neighborhoods: Southeast Portland, Ladd's AdditionThere is alot of stuff in here. It took awhile to find, but they did have exactly what I was looking for. Bonus, it was cheap! The girl that helped me was really cool.

You'll do some digging in the rough to find your midcentury diamond at Lounge Lizard, but you should definitely try. It's the thrill of the hunt. Next to that stained and broken IBM office chair is a Danish Modern sofa - without cushions - but it's in perfect condition and cheap, so buy it and make some cushions already.
As a kitsch connoisseur, I was in bliss. A whole wall of starburst clocks. Swag lamps hang from every part of the ceiling. A great collection of black velvet paintings, gravel art, and paint by numbers. Lots of Orientalia. Mel-Mac. Oh, and a good collection of shoes and handbags as well.
Everyone is super-friendly, and the prices are darned reasonable on most things. Every once in a while you'll see a crappy table or chair or shelf and wonder why in the hell it's so expensive, but that's an exception.

I don't understand why this place gets such good reviews. Sure, they sometimes have some cool stuff (the light fixtures come to mind), actually, they have VERY good pieces often, but THEY ARE INCREDIBLY, UNBELIEVABLY OVERPRICED. I saw a blender there (that wasn't even vintage-looking, just dusty and dirty and OLD) for $20. I DON'T THINK SO.
I did have a love affair with a chair there once, but the upholstery was worn, the paint was chipped, and it was priced at $49, which is ABSURD for something in the condition that chair was in.
If you want to be gouged by bins-pickers, this is the place to go.

Such a perfect name for this place! A very retro furniture store, with lots of other small treasures to look through as well. A great selection of awesome wall hangings ala the 60s or 70s, which if I had the right place for it, I would love to get. I've found with all stores like this from the cheapest thrift place to the priciest antique stores, you generally have to dig and look at a lot of miscellaneous stuff before you find that one great treasure. We found the coolest mirror ever at this place and for a really great price. As a great bonus, the was super friendly. Its definitely worth coming here!

You know when you walk into a friends house and you instantly become jealous? Jealous because they have fantastic taste and spend hours scouring thrift stores, scanning craigslist, and being able to generally pick out good stuff?
That's exactly how I felt about Lounge Lizard, until I realized that I could buy things in here (as opposed to when I just steal them from my friends) and everything was very reasonably priced for a place that is so immaculately merchandised.
I was finally able to purchase one of those silver orb lamps that I've had my eye on forever. If I had more room in my trunk I probably would have purchased a couple of teak chairs, a sofa, and a vintage set of tupperware.
The owner was very helpful and fixed a flaw I found in the lamp I wanted and then gave us honest advice on where we should go shopping next. I will be checking in here everytime I come to PDX for a little tax-free shopping.

This place is basically like a Value Village or Goodwill, only merchandised (sort of) nicely. Pretty much all their stuff is garbage. I suppose if you go every week you might turn up a gem or two, but overall, not worth the effort.
EDIT: After having been in Portland for awhile, my view on Lounge Lizard has softened somewhat, mainly because Christopher, the owner, is a total sweetheart, and just seems to be intent on giving people a good deal on vintage furniture. However, you really do "get what you pay for" in the world of vintage, and while some great stuff does sneak through here (and it's usually out the door faster than you can say "SCORE!"), a lot of what's here feels like the cream of the thrift store crop...which is still not that good. However, if you need a sofa, and you've only got $200 to spend, this is definitely the place to look first.

After looking at the retro stylings on this Hawthorne vintage furniture stores sign, it comes as no suprise that this would be the place to bu alll of the furniture, housewares, and decorations you need to transform your boring apartment into a LOUNGE LIZARD's bachelor pad.
Plenty of furniture, housewares, lamps, and decor hailing from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. You'll even find a handful of clothes and shoes, too.
Inventory turns over fast here.

I've been to Lounge Lizard several times to look for unique vintage pieces to decorate with, and I always find something fabulous at a reasonable price. The staff is friendly, helpful and never stuffy like some places in town. And they avoid seeming like a museum because the merchandise is ever-changing. The only problem is that if you see something you like, you may have to buy it right then as it will likely not be there when you come back- I learned that lesson the hard way! So rock on with your bad selves, LL- I'll be back when I move into a bigger apartment!

Great staff, very helpful and sweet, but ooh how high the prices were! Even after Home up the ways a bit, I still thought that $100 for a wooden table with too many imperfections that looked pretty new was a bit much. Call me cheap but I just couldn't see shelling out 20% more than I thought most of their merchandise was worth.
Christen is right, the whole vibe here is much less "too-cool-for-school" than other places on Hawthorne, but I didn't see any bargains. Oh well, maybe it was just a bad day on the scene.
Whoa. A used furniture (and other housewares) store on Hawthorne that doesn't flip me a bunch of attitude? I'm down.
Most of the stuff here is in the Extremely Hip, Rather Pricey vein -- Melmac dishes for scads of money, for instance. But it is mostly high quality and it's possible to find reasonably priced pieces -- I got a nice lingerie chest here for $15 once, for instance, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
