So what if it's a chain. This Louise's has great food and service. I love the Pappardelle with Italian Sausage. The full order is pretty big so it's enough for dinner and a snack. The restaurant is a bit on the small side but the service is always very attentive.
I took my parents to Louise's once and we sat outside because we also brought our dog, Billy. The waitress at Louise's acknowledged his existence (which I'm sure he appreciated) and while we were looking at the menu trying to decide what to order, she brought out some water for him. Dogs in LA are so spoiled but I love it.
We went at a very slow time of day, so we were only one of two tables there.
THE ORDER:
Ceasar Salad: 4.5 stars....soooo effin good....crisp, fresh, tasty dressing, freshly shaved parmasen, crunchy croutons.....THE BOMB!
Fettucine with Scallops and Shrimp: 3.5 stars.... I am torn!!!! i LOVED the pasta itself; the texture was perfection! the Scallops and shrimp were also AMAZING!! however, the sauce lacked flavor....i also felt theat the artichoke and tomato weren't the best cmpliments fopr this dish.
Bottle of Proseco bbubbly: 5 stars for the price...sweet and went down nicely!
i will definitely go back....

Another typical restaurant on Larchmont Blvd. Small, quaint, decent service. Trendy mommies with their cute children. Gay couples with their trendy outfits. The average good looking model-or actor- in- training that serves your meal.
And I have been to this Louise's several times throughout my 25 years on this planet. And in all honesty, it's just your average and slightly commercialized "traditional" Italian spot where the recipes seem butchered and lack any real Italian history, but it's fairly cheap and you get what you pay for.
But this experience today, takes the cake. And not because of the food. Because the food was just ...meh...well, average.
Phillip- our server was just the cutest, nicest, gayest and most attentive server I've experienced in a long while.
Plus our table neighbors, a 3-year-old boy and his fabulous mother were the best damn table neighbors I've ever had. My aunt starts schmoozing with the kid and he proceeds to ask my aunt as he points over at me:
"Who is that lady over there, is she YOUR mommy?"
*ahem*
Do I really look THAT old?
My aunt laughs and replies with a "No cutie, that is my niece." Like he knows what niece means, auntie.
Then my aunt says to the mother, "He is just the cutest charmer on the planet. He's going to break many girls' hearts"
To which mommy replied, "Well we're not really sure which direction he's going in at this point, but yes, he certainly will be a heart breaker."
So instead of getting a lesson in Italian food and beverage, my aunt got schooled. This day in age, we can't assume that our children will always be heterosexual heart breakers.
Yelp buzz kill, right?
Oh and p.s. my BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad was pretty decent.
The most disheartening thing about my visit to Louise's was that I've never been here before. The waiter suggested helped me whittle down my choices and recommended the Grilled Chicken Panini, which I ordered with a side of fruit. Next time I'm going to try the salad, but the panini was delicious. And to tide me over until it arrived, I munched on the delightfully delicious bread delivered to us while we wait. The bread was warm, soft, fluffy, and flavorful - my favorite kind. Add the superb food to the affordable prices and the great services, and I'll definitely be going back. In fact, I've already recommended Louise's Trattoria to all of my friends!
This is a great place for good food at a reasonable price. The salads are awesome, the pizza is great. I'm surprised at the 3 star reviews. I've had just about everything on their menu and it's all good.
I'm so bummed that the Melrose location has now closed. Oh well, there's still Larchmont. I love the food here.
The service was attentive and the food was delicious for its price. I have recently reviewed their sister location in Los Felix (a bit disappointing), but this is a much friendlier environment and the food was better.
Tiramisu was wonderfully prepared, light on sauce. Excellent finish to a savory meal.
I actually really enjoyed my experience at Louise's. My department decided to treat me to lunch, and we trekked over to Larchmont.
We were immediately given tables. We sat outside, and though it sprinkled, the big umbrellas shaded us (for the most part). The manager came out once or twice to check on us, since we were a bigger group.
While most people seem to have had mediocre food with excellent service, my experience was actually the opposite. We received drinks and bread (which is fantastic rosemary and onion focaccia), and then waited over 45 minutes for our food. Our server was practically ducking from our table to avoid the inevitable questions about how long it would be.
I ordered the pappardelle pasta with Italian sausage in a light tomato cream sauce. So good! There was fresh tomato and fresh basil on top, and my leftovers were even better. Everyone loved their food. Our whole table was silent as we ate. Everything came out steaming hot, and even the half portions were filling. And you're given an option for whole wheat pasta.
We didn't stick around for dessert, but this place seems like it has a lot of regulars. 4 stars for the food, probably 3 for the service.
After going to Louise's on friday...we found out that they do Catering and delivery...We ordered a catered lunch for the office yesterday (kind of a last minute thing) and Paul the manager took such good care of us...Had the Chopped Salad and Penne Asparagus...Very Profesional and Delisious

Our last visit at Louise's was perfect. Rob, our server, was very attentive to the needs of our table and a very personable and charming guy. The food was excellent and brought out from the kitchen at the perfect time intervals - you never felt rushed and you never felt that you were waiting too long for your food. The quality and value of this food they offer here is really wonderful - I'd recommend this place to just about anybody looking for a good dining out experience.
Great tasting food. Attentive servers. A bit pricey. The salad special of the day was amazing!
Confession: I ate here a few times many, many years ago. I never had what I thought was a good meal and so didn't bother to ever walk into one until last year and well, a woman is entitled to change her mind isn't she?
My favorite meal is the Chicken Marsala with a side of mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies. The best part about this place is that if you want a HOT meal, you actually get one. When my chicken arrived, I actually had to blow on it to cool it down. A rare occurrence in my culinary world.
Not only is the food good but they'll put up with your kids too. As my friend and I left with three kids in tow (two for her, one for me) our table looked like it had been hit by a tornado. I immediately apologized to our waiter who told me not to worry about it and truly meant it.
Best of all they have crayons and paper to give my little one so that I can actually enjoy my meal for five minutes, after which she loses all interest in coloring and instead puts her straw into her mouth and starts to blow bubbles in her water glass. Well, at least the meal is never boring
Even with low expectations for picking up Louise's on a Saturday night, I was still really disappointed. I'm not even sure why we ordered it but didn't think you could do much harm with chicken parm and spaghetti and meatballs....or should I say spaghetti and a meatball when you do a half-order. Would it have been any better in-house? I still think Louise's is average Italian at best, and maybe it's my fault for expecting more.
I give this place 1 star because the food was almost inedible. We came for dessert. We had a tiramisu and the red velvet cake. They were both the worst I had tried in either desert in my entire life. I literally gagged when I tried the red velvet cake. It tasted almost rotten and definitely had been sitting a looooong time.
The service was fine. I can't give an extra star for service since the food was so bad. If you're in the restaurant business, don't sell gross food!
Anywhere from 3.5-4 Stars.
If you come on a night when it's not so crowded, the service is fast and accurate. But if you come on a normal, busy night. Expect to get not so great service and they'll end up messing up your order.
I usually get my orders in half sizes and I usually still can't finish them.
Penne Arrabiata - Average. Tastes like every other Penne Arrabiata.
Chicken and Portobello Mushroom Ravioli - A bit heavy and creamy but it still tastes good.
Vegetable Lasagna - They messed up my order for the regular lasagna so I got stuck with this instead.. and it was definitely dry.
Italian Meatloaf - Pretty good. I hate dry meatloaf but this wasn't dry at all.. and the veggies were cooked exactly right.
Foccacia Bread - YUM. I just love bread. I can eat this all day long.
Red Velvet Cake - (From Sweet Lady Jane) DELICIOUS. Amazing.
But the best part of Louise's is that they have dessert from Sweet Lady Jane. MMM. That was probably the best news I heard that day. I don't need to drive all the way to Melrose and find parking a mile away and stand in line forever just to order a slice of cake?! Anyway, the Red Velvet Cake was amazing. Moist and not too sweet.. just perfect.
This is my favorite local "Italian" place, which I have to say isn't saying that much. I think Italian is Los Angeles' weakest food category. I have yet to find a great Italian place at a reasonable price, or rather, where for the price, I say "Wow!" ...and where I can actually find parking and sit down :-P Yes, I know that's a lot to ask.
That said and knowing something about Larchmont, this Louise's is actually a good restaurant for what it is...a small neighborhood place. Now if you know Larchmont, you know to avoid this boulevard like the plague on weekend nights, because the neighborhood really does descend on the neighborhood restaurants. If you cannot avoid it, then expect appropriately, i.e. that the waits will be long, parking hazardous (you'll probably have to park in the neighborhood and walk in), the service confused, and everyone will be frazzled.
I would definitely not take a large party to this location ...are there even more than 10 tables, 1/2 of them for 2 persons only? And certainly not on any busy night, which unfortunately can be most nights.
Once you get past the busy-ness, we find their service and food to be one of the best of the Louise's, including the one on Melrose and Los Feliz (particularly the Los Feliz one...argh -- a couple really bad experiences there so will never go there again, and that's a much larger restaurant).
We've always had very nice and attentive waiters. Our food has been good, unless it's very busy. I remember one wrong dish on a night where it took about 30min to get seated and the waiter was very polite about it.
As for the menu, we have probably tried everything. My personal favorites are the baked portobello mushroom, baby organic salad, angel hair pomodoro, penne asparagus, and penne arrabiata. Hubby likes the crab cakes , chicken marsala, and the grilled salmon.
this isn't a place that's worth waiting in line for, and i almost prefer any other place on melrose to eat, but... if you want something quick and simple, they don't really fuck anything up. in fact, i was extremely surprised by the salad i had for lunch once. my gut instinct is to hate on this place because it's a chain restaurant, for italian food, but it's really not all that bad. if you're looking for authentic sauce recipes handed down through the generations and hand rolled pasta made on the premises, clearly you're in the wrong place.
i tend to come here late, usually after 9, and join some friends who like coming here for dinner. the servers are pretty nice about me crashing the table and ordering dessert or a glass of wine and letting us linger until close, so i appreciate that.
Good: foccacia bread w/spicy dip served at the beginning, the service (we dined pretty early but it was still crowded), the portion sizes, the option to choose half sizes, the penne arrabbiata w/chicken
Bad: cramped seating, Louise's original salad was just average
Truth is I can make the same pasta dish at home but the food was decent and filling and service was great. We were asked at each course how the food was and water/check were brought promptly.
the service was excellent.
the bread in the beginning was good too.
they're a little overpriced for their choices in food. especially for being a chain.
the food was less than mediocre. i had the california fettucini. now i tried REALLY hard to like my food. the sauce was more creamy than pesto and garlic. actually the sauce just looked like i was eating soup with gigantic noodles. and the ladyfriend's fettuccini with chicken at least tasted like something. it wasn't great.
if you're looking for italian food on that strip, la bottega across the street has better food. and good dessert! they're just a smidge slow on service.
Louise's Trattoria is a great place to wine and dine, especially on a warm summer night, because this place has an outdoor sitting. The only negative would be that there are plenty of people walking by every minute on Larchmont, including lots of mama's with babies, or dogs. It's not Louise's fault, the pavement it's not wide enough! But there is always a good vibe, plus great food:) Lot's of menu choices, various salads, pastas and pizzas, you won't be disappointed!
Ps. Park behind Larchmont, on Gower and avoid traffic and parking situation.
I love their bread! Salad and pastas were good. But I do think the pasta was a little overcooked so it was a little soggy.
We ate here a year ago. I remember that it was okay.
We ate here again tonight. It was so not worth it. The fettucine with chicken that we ordered was too peppery for its own good. I ordered the Louise's chopped salad by some mistake thinking it was something else (my fault though). It wasn't good, the combo just tasted weird. The waiter was a bit snobbish as well.
one of my friends took me here when i was visiting her one day. i had their chicken parm with spaghetti instead of the alfredo that it comes with. at first they had mistaken and gave me the alfredo, so i tried it and was delcious but unfourtanatly they took it back and gave me the spaghetti which i didnt like nearly as much. they give you a generous portion of the chicken parm which was pretty good but not the best i've ever had. the bread that they give you at the beginning is the best bread ive ever had at an italian restaurant. it is topped with parmesan cheese and different herbs. dipping it into the oil and vinegar made it just that much better.
ive come back here several times cause i wanted to try the chicken parm with the fettuccini alfredo..it wasnt nearly as good. the service was horrible and it took forever to get our food. when my chicken came out it was so mushy and drowning in tomato sauce. it was hardly edible. but for making us wait the manager gave us 20% off..but it definitly wasn't worth my hour drive up here.
i would give this restaurant another try just because im obsessed with chicken parm&fettuccini. i cant have a bad meal twice in a row here!!
we had a medium size party come (14??) and they made us order only from a set menu. i think it was either chicken or beef.
REALLY????? like you can't handle making food for 14 people? i'd rather ordered from the menu. but seriously, i don't understand why i had to pick some mediocre chicken or beef. NOT fantastic.
I've tried everything on the menu here because I used to work here. All the items are pretty good. My recommendations are: Fettucine with Chicken, Papardelle with Italian Sausage, Chicken Picatta, Chicken Parmegiana, Blackened Salmon, and all the salads served with homemade dressings are excellent. Your server will ask you if you'd like to hear the specials and you should because the specials are usually really good. Eat on the patio with a glass of Rosemont Shiraz and watch all the Larchmont people go by. Service is pretty good depending on your server. :)
Me and a few friends went here to enjoy a nice meal but I ended up getting served cold food. When the waiter took it back to warm it up, it was almost 35 minutes before a server brought it out again and that was only because the waiter notice that I still was not eating anything and my friend's were finishing eating. By the time I got the food again I was filled up on bread and was no longer hungry. When the bill came my friends suggested that I should not have to pay for the meal but I did not want to make a big deal out of it. One of the girl got up and ask to speak to a manager but the waiter came out and said he would speak to the manager. He later came back with a meal receipt that was only adjusted (less) by $5. My friends' were outrage and swore never to step foot in the place again. The manager never came out until after we paid the bill and even then all she said was (with a smile) do you need anything else. Oh by the way when my friend explain to the waiter why I should be comp for the meal and they the restaurant should have offer this on their own. The waiter told her that since I did not complain myself. They didn't have to offer.
What has customer service come too!
Excellent chicken parmesan, the bread is very good as well. This place is one of the best Italian places to eat in Los Angeles. This place is not a place to go for a diet, but I don't have that problem since I am not a fatass haha.
This is not real Italian food. I have eaten there a few times, each time a disappointment. Give me Chef Boyardee anytime! Service is good though.
Too expensive for the kind of food they serve. Didn't realize this is a chain- Not authentic to start off, (hell they serve jambalaya pasta -_-) but they use too much lemon in everything. Tried the salmon and jambalaya pasta, both too sour. Good service, but pretty sure I will never visit that restaurant again.
My favorite dish at Louise's Trattoria at Larchmont Blvd. is the Fettuchini Alfredo without meat. The chicken doesn't really go nor does shrimp or other seafood. I've had this dish many times. The bread they bring out to you before your food arrives is amazing. It tastes great hot with balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil and herbs. They bring that out to you too. I've also had the vegetarian lasagna which was OK. It could have been better in my opinion. I never really ordered a salad there but the salads on their menu all sound delicious. Whenever I go I can usually get a table for 4 that has comfortable couch like chairs even when I'm by myself. But of course I don't go during peak hours. I usually go on Sunday mornings or in the afternoons after lunchtime or a couple of hours before lunch. The service is great. Some of the waiters know me by now and wave hello when I walk by. Louise's is a nice place when going out with friends or on a date.
be careful not to eat the entire bread basket as it is yummy and can fill you up before your meal comes. we ordered the papardelle with italian sausage. pretty good! i definitely recommended eating on the patio.
