12 reviews for Loui's Pizza
Fantastic greasy square pizza. Something about the sauce and the crispy crust that will keep you coming back!
Fantastic antipasto salads as well. I am not going to go too much into additional details because other yelpers have covered it all so many times before!! Some of the best pizza around!
I've been going to Louie's since my parents took me as a kid. For some reason the first thing that I always noticed were empty, bamboo covered wine bottles all over the walls. This is a true hole in the wall gem and a great place to eat.
As far as the pizza goes, you can't go wrong. My old man used to get the meatball sandwich which is huge, and covered with sauce. I've never had it but he swears by it.
Great staff, great laid back atmosphere (and yes, they do have a bar..key), and great pizza.
This is my first visit to Loui's Pizza since Jr. High. I'm not sure why I waited so long... It is as good as I remember as kid.
The antipasto salad and large pizza, sausage, and cheese pizza. The salad was outstanding. The pizza toppings were fresh, the crust just the right crispness, ample cheese and tasty sauce.
I will be back often!
I honestly know of no better pizza available on this planet. Could such a thing even exist? Possibly, but I've never encountered it, and I lived in Chicago for 3 years. This is the best I've ever had, and it really puts Buddy's to shame. Buddy's is a "Second Place Is The First Loser!" to Loui's, but when Loui's is closed for vacation, Buddy's will suffice somewhat.
Nothing beats the best, however. The winner is Loui's by a mile.
I was expecting better, I really was...Good things hands down were cheap drinks and a good beer list...also reasonably priced for sure. I am pretty much agreeing with Joe C's review here...
We started with the antipasto salad...I am more of a greek gal but didn't want to disrupt the table chemistry...it was ok...I mean it was totally fresh and all but there was nothing else in it but the meat and cheese and iceberg...onion? hello? The salad dressing was awesome and god knows how much oil(and I mean the bad kind) was really in it...our waitress wasn't around a lot so I didn't get the try the ranch, which is essential with pizza and salad.
Another disappointment...as a Buddy's fan I was looking forward to some type of Buddy Bread spin off...there was none to be found.
The pizza...holy crap. Apparently this Loui guy and the owners of Buddy's used to be partners....but whatever reason for split, I do like Buddy's better. This pizza was TOO big and too greasy. While I am not one to complain about places that don't screw you on the cheese...there was WAY too much cheese for the little amount of sauce, and it tended to make the crust greasy as opposed to that crisp deep dish flavor we all know and love so well here in the D. ALSO-CANNED MUSHROOMS....gross....I knock places down for canned mushrooms instantly because people, they do NOT cook well and taste nasty mixed with grease.
I guess overall it was just ok, but as my hubbs and I were driving home I was like, "damnit, that just was NOT worth all the calories we just consumed" he agreed instantly. Will I go back? Yes, if it's a group thing or whatever...will I make a special trip down to HP for it alone or with my husband? Def. not. I would rather have Buddy's or my fav. Jet's anytime over this. I would give it 2.5 stars if it were an option...3 is too much and 2 is too cruel...
Loui's has been a family favorite since I was a kid. My grandparent's would often take us all out to eat for pizza there.
I still love going there and we get our pizza with everything, but anchovies. Along with an antipasto salad. Their pizza is great and so is the salad. And the crust is amazing!
Great Pizza for the area but even better Antipasto Salad.
I cant believe I'm saying it but YES they really have great Salad.
You have to try it!
The salad dressing will haunt you,
You'll dream about it.
You'll beg them to sell you a 55 gallon drum of it so you can put it on everything.
OH, ..and I really like the Wine Bottle decore.
Like any typical college student pizza quickly became a staple in my diet and at times was all my diet consisted off. And with so many options and varieties deep dish, thin crust, Chicago style, Brooklyn style the options are endless. Yet every time I stop into Hazel Park's Loui's I fall asleep dreaming of their food.
Located at Dequindre and 9 mile this pizza joint is where to go when you want the best of the best. And expect to wait on the weekends, families' line up to get a seat in the moderate sized restaurant.
The salads are crunchy fresh and chopped to ensure every bite is filled with the flavorful goodness. They are known for their antipasti salad, but I always opt for the Greek. The feta cheese smooth and creamy and the beets are sweet. The pizza is cooked to perfection and the toppings like mushrooms, pepperoni, onions, and peppers not scare.
The wait staff at Loui's have been waiting tables for what seems like an eternity. They know how to provide a great dining experience to parties of 2 or 12. For a friend's birthday a gaggle of us came in for some pies, wine and salads, and the waitress didn't even flinch we changed our order a million times. And it all came out correct and delicious.
One quirky thing that stands out is the décor, the empty Chianti bottles decorated by customers and used to line the wall. So, order a pizza and a bottle of Chianti (bring your sharpie or borrow one of theirs) and enjoy one of Metro Detroit's most underestimated pizza joints.
Atmosphere - it's Hazel Park so who cares.
Pizza - okay but I can't put it up there with some of the better ones I've had. The sauce was good and ample, the cheese was good, the toppings tasted fresh, the thickness was right for deep dish but the crust was very greasy and over powering...sort of sat in the bottom of your stomach like a rock. I'm a huge crust type guy and usually fight over the corner pieces but after eating one I was fighting for the edge pieces just so I could get less crust.
Loui's has been around for as long as I or my father can remember. It's a place that my granddad took my dad, and a place that I'll take my daughter when she's old enough.
Right off the bat there's something about a place that's been perfecting their craft for that long. Few places around Detroit can boast being open for generations when they make pizza. (I can only think of three places off the top of my head that can say that)
The pizza is exquisite. That's not what you'd usually hear about pizza... but it really is amazing.
Prices are good, the pizzas are portioned well, and the atmosphere of the place is great!
They don't shy away from graffiti; far from it! They have hundreds of wine bottles with wicker-woven cradles, absolutely covered in names. Part of the fun of Loui's is reading names and phrases from decades ago. These things have been hanging for a long time! Bring a sharpie and add your own little piece of history: one hand on the marker, one hand with the pizza!
Louie's really is the best place to go and have pizza. their deep dish is absolute heaven. crispy crunchy crust. perfect amount of sauce. ooey gooey cheese. fresh toppings. YUMMMMMMM.
Their antipasto salad is also really good. it's the perfect pizza & salad combo.
Complete the trifecta with a nice cold beer.
Now - Louie's is by no means a fancy pants restaurant. but what they are is a Hazel Park landmark. They've been around for years and it's really easy to see why!!!!! the restaurant is typical "mom & pop" style but it's cozy. the servers are always friendly even when they're busy.
As an added bonus ... if you'd rather sit in your pajamas in front of your TV eating pizza but don't want to order from a "chain" place -- Louie's has frozen pizzas for sale.
can't get much better than that!!!!!
This is by far the best pizza I have ever had. My mom and dad are from Warren and almost every time we came to visit family we would go here to eat. While they are a little pricey, it is definitely worth it. I don't even know if they serve round because the square is so good you'll never look back. They don't skimp on the toppings at all and the crust is delish. The atmosphere is very cozy. There is low lighting and used wined casks hung all over the walls. It has been like this forever. They also have to best antipasto ever. If you are in the area I definitely recommend stopping by. You might be in for a wait though.
