I love Louie's! It is my go to week night casual dinner spot. It is a total dive and completely unpretentious. It's Dark lit, has old furniture, but new TVs that are great for watching a game!
Hand down one of the best Caesar salads that I have ever had ( p.s. I'm kind of a salad connoisseur)! This is the main reason why I keep coming back. The pizza is good too. Way better than Campisi's, but I still think I prefer fireside pies more. They also have good crab claws but they seem to be out of them a lot. My boyfriend is also a fan of their famously strong drinks.
A few warnings - This place is a no frills no fuss establishment. There are no garnishes on the plate, a stack of sharing plates is dropped in the middle of the table, they only take AMEX, and accept cash and there is quite often a wait. If you keep these things in mind you won't be disappointed!

Like the Force, Louie's has a good side and a dark side.

The Good Side:  The pizza and the bar.  The pizza here is better than most.  It has a light, thin, crispy crust.  It's not over-topped, soggy, or greasy, though it is a little over-sauced.  The bar is very well stocked, and we didn't think the prices were bad.  Keep your order basic, though.  This isn't the type of place for fru-fru drinks.

The Dark Side: Hours, parking, payment options.  We have been here a grand total of one time because every other time we've tried to go it was closed.  Sometimes it opens at 4:30 p.m.  Sometimes it opens at 5:30 p.m.  Sometimes it opens earlier, but doesn't serve food until later.  Naturally, they don't have a website that lays out their byzantine schedule, or even post it out front for that matter.  Parking is a nightmare.  If you're lucky you'll be able to grab a spot up front next to the building, otherwise you will end up wandering up and down Henderson and the adjacent streets hunting for a spot you will likely never find.   Finally, payment.  No cards except American Express.  I'm sure the crummy little convenience store across the street makes its entire business off ATM fees.

As for service and attitude, we didn't have a problem with either, contrary to what a lot of people say.  Neither was outstanding, but they weren't particularly bad either.

I would like to go back to get a better grip on the place, but that depends on whether it decides to be open and if I happen to have any cash.

So this is how it went through.
    1. My boyfriend and I got there Thursday night at 5:05PM starving for some pizza. My friends and I (a group of 6) have tried to eat there before unsucessfully because everytime we have been is full and the wait time is ridiculous. We atempted this time because we thought it would be empty and quick, and It was empty indeeed.
    2. 5:10PM, a waitress tells us what would we like to drink before even showing us the menus and I quickly said" diet cokes, but we would like the menus, we are starving". She said "honey the kitchen opens at 5:30 so you still have some time". Ok so we decide to wait.
    3.  5:23pm, I tell the waitress, "we are ready when you are", and she said the kitchen is not open yet, so you still have some time, the pizzas won't come up until 6". What?????? , What??????, 3o minutes for a pizza????? 1 hour of wait, unbearable.
    4. My boyfriend already aggravated due to his starvation and the fact that he works at the airport late told me to just go to other place quick so I told the rude and not nice waitress to just charge the 2 glasses of cokes.
    5. She says 6 dollars. SIX WHAT??? for 2 glasses of diet cokes?? Is not a lemonade dude?
    6. We paid the six dollars and we were out the door ASAP.
    7. We ended up going to Greenville Ave, the best ever!!! I shouldn't have cheated not ever.

Considering that we eat out a lot and that we go to a lot of restaurants in the downtown/Greenville/Henderson Area, because that's where we live, this is one of the worst services ever. Even if people say the pizza is good, service sucks. They won't ever see me again.

On the other side we went to Greenville Ave Pizza and the people there wouldn't stop asking about how the pizza was and if we needed something else, a total 360 change. Learn from them Louies.

Great Pizza!  I am a huge fan of pizza and to be honest, I can't rank this on my list..  Why? Because there really is no pizza you can compare it to..  Ive never had anything like it.  Coal vines is still my all time fav thin crust, ifratelli I love the chicken artichoke, elbow room is a classic regular crust and then Louie's.. Thin crust and delish..The sauce is amazing!!!  It's actually on the sweeter side and you can't go wrong with a thin crust pizza.. Some of the ends were a bit burnt but nothing the dogs wouldn't eat.  We had pepperoni and hamburger.. I could have done without the hamburger.. It wasn't bad by any means but I didn't think it brought much flavor. Jake thought otherwise and loved it.  The price was great! $17 for a large with 2 toppings.. We did a carry out order and the pizza was still hot and fresh by the time it got home.  Don't forget it's cash only and parking is a pain, but we will be back.

I love Louies! It is my favorite pizza in town AND the best Caesar salad.
It is a dive (which I also enjoy) so you have to go expecting casual atmosphere and service, few smiles and jolliness from the staff, can be crowded/long wait at peak times and only one not-so-pretty bathroom. It is basically a dark bar with great food.
But it is worth if to me for the great pizza, salad and drinks. My hubby enjoys his beer in a can and I have my old school Manhattan and we laugh with friends. And, it is no longer smoky since they now uphold the smoking ban.
If you go expecting it to be what it is you will love it. We do!
(BTW, cash only and it can be cold in there so wear long sleeves)

I'm blown away at that in this day and age, AMEX is the preferred card at a bar.  Suck it up and accept the merchant fee, or add a convenience charge for card users who don't carry cash on them to pay for slow service and expensive drinks.

I love the food and atmosphere here, but the customer service and payment method blows.  You know that Texas hospitality you get at so many places? "Hi. How are you today?  Will there be anything else? Order come out okay?" - don't expect that here.

The service can be sketchy, but Louie's has the best thin crust pizza I've ever had, and Louie's mom makes a phenomenal chocolate silk pie. Ignore the wait and the (lack of) service, and just enjoy the delicious cracker crust!

As a Dallas native I've been coming to Louie's for a long time now, and it has become too much to bear anymore. I'm writing this review at 11 p.m. on a Tuesday, right after getting home from Louie's; it was so bad I had to write a review.

We got there around 8 and waited a solid hour for a table (no exaggeration). When we were finally seated it took our waitress another 15 minutes to give us any service, and another 30 for our pizza once we ordered. I understand this is an old school joint, but the wait is outrageous, and the waitresses are downright rude. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives killed everything I enjoyed about this place.

The pizza was good, but not spectacular. I had an old fashioned at the bar and it was sickly sweet (although I was pleased that they had rye). They need to focus a little less on "attitude" and a little more on service, but that probably won't happen since Guy Fieri ensured the place will be packed for years to come.

I won't be back; you can find me at Campisi's, Olivella's, Bryan Street Tavern or Grimaldi's having some good pizza with a side of decent service.

This place is no fancy. A dark bar with sturdy oak tables and old plastic chairs. Must try thin crusted pizza which you can customize. I had it with jalapenos, chicken and fresh tomatoes. Crispy crust, not too greasy, perfectly sweet and thick tomato sauce. This place gets a gold star.

One thing to note - they only accept cash or AMEX.

    Meh.

I just don't get it. First of all, forgive me for my old lady tirade, but: if I want to eat, I go to a restaurant. If I want to drink, I go to a bar. I don't really know which of the two this place was trying to be, but it wasn't working for me. I feel like the atmosphere is about 80% bar...maybe 90% bar? But every table in the entire place seemed to be eating pizza. Confusing. Bottom line, I just don't enjoy having to scream at my friends over dinner.

As others have said, the service here is dismal. The bartender admonished my husband for trying to order a drink from the bar after we had been seated, and subsequently abandoned, at a table. Once we finally got to put a drink order in, refills were never offered. The food took forever to come out. Once it did come out, the pizza was extremely forgettable, in my opinion.

Payoff is not worth the wait, the poor service/poor attitude, or the uncomfortable atmosphere.

Louie's was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and I'd say that Louie's fits into the "Dives" category.

They are known for their pizza so that's what I ordered. Even though the guys that run Louie's are from Chicago, Louie's makes a thin crust pizza. The pizza had a really good taste to it, and I think the sauce is what made this pizza rock.

One of the owners, Louie, was one of the bar tenders and he was a really friendly guy. He's also a Cubs fan, which makes him even cooler.

You could tell that Louie's has a pretty loyal local following, as I talked to several guys at the bar that seem to go there quite a bit.

The only funky thing about Louie's is that they only accept cash or American Express. I had to run across the street to a convince store to get money.

Cool dive bar with really good pizza and friendly service gives Louie's five stars.

Been here 3 times and all 3 times I wondered if I would come back. Yes- this place is featured. Sure- this place has charm.

What it doesn't have anymore is my plastic, belly or patronage. I'm sorry Louie. I can't afford you, stomach your pizza (Eno's beats you hands down IMHO) nor can I handle your slow service.

    Belly out.

Part of the reason I go out to eat, is to be served.  The service here is TERRIBLE.  The pizza was alright, but I've had much better and there are many better options around Dallas.

This place would be a waste of your time.

    This place is Ok.

It's hole in the wall. The chairs have questionable stains and it looks like it was once an office building or something... a very tiny office building. It's average pizza. Pretty greasy with a nice crunchy crust. The other food (e.g. meatballs) is ok as well. It's pretty greasy and touted as Italian food (but is really just extra food for a pizza joint.) They serve sodas and the expensive beer ($3.50 for a domestic) in the can...

There is virtually no parking. You have to nab something on the street (of which is extremely limited).

The most annoying part is that it's cash only. People rarely carry cash these days and having to take some out or remember to bring enough for a whole meal and expensive beer isn't worth the hassle.

Tied for my favorite pizza spot (Grimaldi's).  Louies has cracker thin crust; the way it should be.  Simple pizza, I go with 2, maybe 3 toppings at most.  I would give it 4.5 stars if I could.

I love pizza. Seriously, it has it's own food group as far as I'm concerned. And I love all kinds of pizza, crusts, styles etc. So when I heard about Louie's and their yummy pizza just minutes away trying it was a must.

I'm borderline between 3 and 4 stars here. We got there close to 8 on a Thursday night and they were on a 30 minute wait. Not a biggie, we nabbed 2 seats at the bar and had a drink. I will say that I was overly impressed with the liquor selection, especially that the whiskey and scotch choices outdo the vodka by a lot. That's a plus in my book. We ordered our drinks and the bartender informed us of the cash/amex issue and that there was an ATM across the street. Who takes amex over visa or mc? Whatever...problem was solved easily enough. I did like that they just rolled our drink tab to our table b/c we were sat almost immediately afterwards (a lot of bars will make you pay out at the bar before you go to your table).

Service was a little slow, but friendly. We got a pizza, of course. Lots of toppings, crust was crunchy and delicious, sauce and cheese were fresh and amazing. Overall, it was one great pizza. I can't say that I saw fireworks or anything, but I was a very happy camper and made sure I didn't eat myself into a coma and there was enough for me to save for lunch today.

The menu is interesting in its variety but hey, it caters to everyone I suppose. I'll definitely be back...just have to figure out what to try next.

Pizza places in Dallas are soemthing I've been hearing a lot about lately.  I love Piggie Pies, but some of my friends have been talking about how amazing Serious Pizza in Deep Ellum is.  Cane Rossi has also gotten some mention, but my friend Marco suggested we head over to Louie's.

Louie's is located on Henderson, pretty close to Taqueria Lupita, which I reviewed yesterday.  Louie's is listed as a dive bar, and after going there I can see why, but they also make one hell of a thin crust pizza.

We ordered two pies- a large with pepperoni, sausage and jalapeno, and a small with pineapple and 51st state bacon.

The crust was crispy, burned in some areas, and just how a thin crust pizza should be.  The toppings were plentiful.  The pineapple was entire pineapple rings, not just the little chunks like most places give you.  We devoured both pizzas; something that we were doubting we could do about halfway through them.

The only complaint we had was how the pizza was cut; instead of slices, it was cut into squares.  Pieces without crust are a waste, especially on a thin crust pizza.  I'm wondering if they'll cut it differently on request.

My only other warning about Louie's is that it is cash or AmEx only, so make sure you're prepared when you go in.  They have a great selection of bottled beers, but nothing on draft.

This is hands down the best pizza that I have had in Dallas. I am a thin crust lover and Louie's is the very best by far.  The greek salad is pretty good as well. I can not stress enough how great the pizza is!!

Place is a total dive but you have to go and try the pizza.

Downsides:  Guys behind the bar are pretty nice but very slow to serve you.  The waitresses and the hostess are pretty bad.  Service is not what you come for here.  Also, for a reason I will never understand they do not take Mastercard or Visa but take Amex and Cash.

I never saw the DDD feature on Louie's, but I didn't need to. The first time I came here several years ago, I knew I needed to make it a habit. Needing a fix, I went back again this weekend with a bunch of friends.

Nestled way down on Henderson, close to Ross, Louie's could probably be considered a dive. The stucco building is nondescript and the sign is easy to miss. Once you've found your way inside, things feel nice and cozy. It's a small space, and the tables are packed in pretty tight, but it's not particularly claustrophobic. The place was packed, but it wasn't rowdy or noisy. It's a nice comfy place to eat some great food. And even under the strain of a packed house on Saturday night, the service was prompt, if not overly friendly - the servers were busy, so they were all business, which was fine by me.

Anyhow, on to the food. We had a crew of nine, so we decided that three large pizzas would cover everyone. A couple of us wanted a Greek salad, so we threw in for a large in case anyone else decided it looked good. That was we had plenty food for everyone, and the last few straggling pizza slices eventually found homes before we had to raise a paw for a doggie bag.

So how's the food? Well, first off, I'm a big fan of their Greek salad. The dressing is tangy, but not oily. Plenty of feta cheese hunks are present to provide company for the kalamatta olives and the crispy lettuce. Plus, by my count, the large salad fed five of us. It's a great salad and a ton of food.

As we polished off the greens, the pizzas arrived. We had one veggie, one meatie, and one with plain cheese. For those not familiar with Louie's, make a note that their crust is thin. Cracker thin. I think that's a good thing, as it has enough crunch and flavor to be a good complement to the toppings, but it doesn't wield enough heft to pound your stomach into submission too early. Sliced into little pizza strips, it's eminently scarfable. Left unattended, I might've consumed an entire pizza before realizing what a terrible idea that might actually be. It's damn good.

And when you factor in the volume of food you're going to get, it's a pretty darn good deal too.

FYI, and this may be a deal-killer for some, they don't take anything but cash or AmEx. Plan ahead and hit the ATM, you'll be glad you did!

I missed the hype. Loved the bar vibe and comfort of the place. Warm, friendly, dirty (which is a good thing) . The Pizza? Sauce was great, Sausage was great, didn't care much for the cheese or other toppings and the crust was hit or miss. As a NYer, I like my thin crust but this went a little far. Too much cracker and not enough crust. Several folks told me to go for the pizza, I tell them to try Phoenix, Hartford or even NY, go figure.

Can you say Mulligatawny?  Don't worry about being able to pronounce it just order it.  This curry flavored Indian soup is flavorful and meaty.  I sucked it all down to the last drop.

The thin-crust pizza with homemade sausage was also quite tasty and this was the first time in a long time that I've had a domestic beer and much less one in the can.

The waitresses were quite nice as well.

At times the service did seem a bit slow and it was mega crowded in the joint.

The decor is nothing special but that's not why you really go to Louie's anyway is it?

The parking is atrocious and perhaps this is why it didn't get a five star rating from me.

I'll concur with others that complain about parking, atmosphere, wait time for food / tables...

Its a small, growingly popular joint.

It also has the best, freshest pizza in Dallas.  This is, in my educated opinion (having eaten at the best pizza places in Chicago), the best thin crust pizza in Dallas.  The owners / chef are from just north of Chicago and brought authentic recipes, they make their own Chicago style sausage (as in grind it themselves), their own dough, sauce etc... they use the freshest ingredients and you can tell by how delicious the pizzas are.  The Greek salads are pretty good too, the burgers are ground / made fresh to order... oh and the Mulligatawny is on the menu cuz the chef likes it and just put it on there.

Get there early or be prepared to wait, that simple.

These negative reviews are just mind-numbing. I would NEVER usually give online reviews a second glance, but when it comes to Louie's, I will waste my time and defend them til I die.

I've been a regular for about 2 years now, and the bartenders, servers, and everyone involved, treat me like I've been there since day 1, and do so with all guests. The servers are some of the most on-top-of-their-shit I've been around. People bitching about seating time: dude, it ain't Applebees! It's a small joint, and not that big! Not to mention, it's a popular place, hence the table wait time! As for food wait-time... Once again, it's a small, neighborhood place. If the kitchen has an influx of orders, it may take a sec! Get over it! Either enjoy a beverage, or don't bother making the drive south of 635, or whatever suburb you live in!
I won't even dignify the complaints about the food, because anyone that does complain, is just too used to the bullshit they eat throughout their mundane life.  Eaten over 200 meals there, all of which were exquisite. Develop a palate!

In short, if you were a patron that did not enjoy the Louie's experience, as a loyal regular, we didn't want you there anyway....

Pizza is one of the BEST in Dallas.  Salads are also exceptional.   Beer in the can, need I say more...

Total dive but one of my absolute favorites on Henderson.

Awesome pizza, good (strong) martinis, great atmosphere. One of the house favorites is the crab leg appetizer. The meatballs are also phenomenal. Order both, you won't regret it.

There is a main bar, with people milling around, and a bigger side room that has less character but offers a lot more seating. Be willing to wait if you go friday or saturday but any other night you shouldn't have to wait too long.

The management and wait staff are great too. I've never had a bad experience here.

I was leery about going here for a birthday party, because of some of the reviews.  But I loved it.  The pizza was great; I'm a sucker for a good thin crust. The sauce had an original sweet taste to it.  Our server wasn't the friendliest, but she had no problem keeping up with drink/food orders even though we had a large party & it was packed.

Parking didn't really seem to be much of a problem as long as you were willing to walk across the street.  I dug the dive atmosphere of the joint and I can't wait for my next trip!

I love, love, love their pizza.  They get really, really crowded on Friday and Saturday nights though so if you can manage to go on a weeknight instead you'll be better off.

I always get a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and black olives.  Their sausage is really good, much better than average.  Their sauce is tangy and flavorful which really is what makes the pizza for me.

to Jesse G. - I lived in New Haven for several years and yes, they do have spectacular pizza there - however, New Haven pizza is a very different style than this, and it is comparing apples to oranges.  You can't compare deep dish pizza to New Haven pizza either.  New Haven sauces are mild, basically crushed tomato + garlic and nothing else.   If that is what you're looking for, you won't find it here - try Palio's for that style.

Best ever pasta with Alfredo and broccoli. The bartender makes a perfect margarita, not too tart, and certainly not overly sweet. The vibe is great and undoubtedly you will leave the place having met at least one new friend at the bar.

Okay, finally went tonight.  Had been meaning to go for like a year.
Was impressed, but can't give it 5 stars.  Good place, worth checking out.

    OUTSIDE
Called a dive, but not that bad.  By gentrified area near Barcardia.
Parking is kind of a pain.
    INSIDE
I thought it was neat and clean.  Not the Ritz, but okay.
    SERVICE
She was pretty good.  No complaints.
    FOOD
This is where they lost the 5.
    Pizza was very good.
Crust was burnt (see many other reviews).  If you are going to do a crust that thin, you gotta watch it like a hawk.
Sauce - was good, but too much on it.
Sausage - this was excellent, homemade.  Very impressed.

    Good place, check it out.

I finally had the infamous Louie's pizza today!

And sure enough our waitress was a bit surly. It was really early so she was just setting up the tables and it took a bit before we got menus. Off to a rocky start but within 10 minutes the place was packed and 3 more waitresses arrived.

The small Greek salad is plenty for two and has a great tangy vinaigrette. However, it came with one tomato wedge and one pitted Kalamata olive. ONE of each, not cool if you want to call it a Greek salad.

But thank the good Lord for the super nice redheaded waitresses that took over and kept us happy. She kept tea glasses full and delivered our piping hot pizza. The Italian sausage was delicious and they did not skimp on the cheese or pepperoni either. The table next to me ordered a plate of pasta with meatballs that looked amazing.

The bartender was really nice too. I loved how dark it is inside and they had the coolest Art Deco pendant lighting above the bar. I was also a fan of the AC on full blast.

I figured out why the aforementioned surly waitress has such a sour attitude. You see, Louie's has been around for ages and it was obvious that the manly men at the bar are long time regulars. Way before second hand smoke was the devil, I'm sure this placed was a fun bar with strong drinks, dark, and smoky. But now you have to smoke outside in the 100 degree weather and come back in to see people bringing their toddlers and small babies! It's not what Louie's was ever meant to be and she's pissed. So rest assured, I'll be back with my cash for some thin crust pizza but I'll leave all children at home until they are old enough to drink! I'm just hoping I get the nice waitress again.

Ok, had a lot of anticipation going in here seeing as it was featured on Triple D.  Yes, it is a dive, but that was good.  Service not bad, a bit slow though.  Food good but not anything exceptional.  Pizza - Campisis is better.  Burger - could have flipped one in the back yard better.  Calzone - good, not great.  Atmosphere - fun, loud, Cowboys game on.

Overall, would go back for a beer and bar food, but really think it is no more than that - would never recommend a trip for dinner as we did this evening.

It's "ok" here.  The service and the bartenders could use a personality tuneup.  After reading the below reviews I think I have an idea why. Lastly, parking is worse than Manhattan at rush hour as others have stated.  Much better places to go where you don't have to worry about your BMW getting dinged and your ears blown out by a screaming owner.  Check YELP.  Come out of your not so secure box.

I totally imagine mob bosses making deals at a back table.  That's what Louie's reminds me of.  Part bar and part pizza kitchen, this is the real deal when it comes to great places to hang out.

Real bar, not one of these places trying to look like a dive bar to attract the trendy uptowners trying to look like downtowners.  And it's not a dive.  It's just a real bar, though some of the tables are charmingly wobbley.

Real pizza--some of the best thin crispy crust pizza in town.  Quality toppings. The large will run you $12 with $2 a topping.  I think.  I have had my share of favorites, but this tops them all.

Real BIG salads--a small easily feeds two folks easily.  And yes, that means two of me and I eat a huge amount of food.

Real people--meaning you will see everyone in Louie's.  From the folks adding up change to pay the bill to celebrities.  I'm pretty sure that was Pat Summerall at the back table.  It's a great mix of folks.  And yep, I'll be there adding up my quarters and dimes to make sure I have enough to pay the bill and still leave a good tip.  Remember AMEX and cash only.
