Look, I know it's trendy. You know it's trendy. Heck the guy that weighs the yogurt and takes your money knows it's trendy. But whatever. Lotus Yogurt is good.
My favortie: Vanilla and Coconut yogurt with fresh papaya and bananas, covered in shredded coconut and almonds.
All for $3. Plus I had a coupon so it was more like $2.50. I'm cheap, what can I say.
Quite possibly the best lunch you could have after a morning on the beach watching volleyball.
For my first experience with "trendy yogurt", Lotus didn't disappoint. For all the hype surrounding trendy yogurt these days, I managed to never try any up until now.
I got the chocolate yogurt with fresh strawberry and almonds. The chocolate is almost rich enough to be ice cream, but doesn't leave that heavy ice-cream feeling. For someone like me who's not big on sweets, the serving hit the spot nicely.
Price is by weight, and for a small cup with a moderate amount of yogurt and toppings, it came out to only $3 and some change.
Lotus is conveniently located across from Hermosa Pier. After long days surfing and playing volleyball, Lotus will definitely make it on my list of end-of-day treats.
how many faux-pinkberrys are we going to end up having?
Lotus was pretty busy on a sunday evening. as it should be. it serves all the things pinkberry's been serving for the past couple of years plus A LOT MORE flavors. i thought the mango/ peach combination was very good. the original flavor tasted a little tart-er than that of pinkberry's. but i actually prefer it this way. pinkberry's beginning to taste a little too sweet for my pallette
and yes. you do get to do everything yourself. so that means you have no one to get mad at if your fro-yo didn't come out looking fabulously swirled. and since they charge it by the ounce, don't skimpy & pile on those yummy fruits & mochis & fruity pebbles..because you get what you paid for...my friend.
now. if someone could tell the store manager about how dirty the floor gets from all those food droppings..and make sure they have more of those sampling cups...
then we'd be in yogurt heaven~
This is a mini Yogurtland. Walked by here on my way to dinner and decided I had to try to for dessert even though I just had froyo an hour prior. What is wrong with me. I think froyo is the next nicotine.
Speaking of nicotine, you know the town in Mexico called Puerto Nuevo? Well, I found out that it's called that not because it was a "new port," but because Newport Cigarettes had a huge billboard there that served as a landmark and the town eventually took on the name. So sad. Good thing it wasn't advertising for Virginia Slims, or Marlboro. I digress.
We went back in there since it said $.39/oz. and it was self-serve. They had a variety of flavors and your regular toppings and the fruit was really fresh. I got a dollop and so did my friend and that came out to $2.41. Totally worth it just for a taste. It was good, creamier and tartier (hee hee) than Pinkberry. A definite stop next time I'm in Hermosa and have a craving for some froyo. Plus, the guy behind the counter was just so grateful for us stopping in and he kept on thanking us profusely. I almost felt bad for not buying more, but I told him it was good and we'd be back.

I came here with Antho today after a UYE lunch. We tried various different flavors which were all good but I went with the original which is just the plain one like at Pinkberry because I wanted fruit toppings and I didn't want multiple flavors.
I like that it is self serve and you pay by the ounce because I like a smaller portion and 50% fruit and 50% yogurt.
They had lychee, mango, papaya, watermelon, honeydew, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, blackberries and a few more fresh toppings. I chose the blackberries because they are my favorite.
I suggested that they have pistachios to put on the pistachio yogurt...maybe they will then I will get the pistachio.

My roommate and I are on a "Tour De Yogurt" in the South Bay and when Lotus opened a few weeks ago in our hood we had to check it out. If you don't live within walking or biking distance and you're not already in the area I wouldn't recommend driving all the way down here because most of the time ,parking is a challenge. The owner does stand out front at times handing out coupons or samples and there are always flyers on cars so it's become a bit overkill.
It's self serve so you grab your cup and you get to pull the lever and fill your yogurt. They have a plethora of flavors including strawberry banana, green tea, cafe au lait etc etc. I decided to go with a sampling of 4 fruity flavors, peach, pineapple, blueberry and pistachio. The Pistachio was by far the best the rest weren't doing anything for me. Then again, I am a lover of all things pistachio and a bit of a pistachio whore if you will. They also have a do it yourself topping bar. As someone who doesn't like dealing with salad bars and buffets I didn't like the concept of having to fill my own yogurt cup because when you're holding a wallet and phone or keys it gets tricky.
What I really found confounding was why they had a tip jar up by the register.... I DID ALL THE WORK! Were the tips for me?
I might return for the Pistachio, but my heart still belongs to Yummy Yogurt in Palos Verdes, then Tri Wave in Redondo, then Penguins THEN Lotus!

There's a colorful, shiny new addition to downtown Hermosa Beach!
And it's just what the town needs: frozen yogurt!
Lotus opened its doors a week ago. I was walking by tonight and decided to stop in. A friendly young man was out front on the sidewalk, handing out little paper sample cups. He told me it's their Grand Opening, so how could I resist?
Inside I met Kathryn, the owner. Yes, she's heard of Yelp, and she was so excited when I offered to take some photos and add the new listing to the site. We chatted a bit, and I learned that the man outside whom I had just met is her husband, and this is her first venture into entrepreneurship. Check out the photos of this beautiful space.
I am impressed! What a perfect location for a yogurt shop - a block from the beach.
I am also impressed with the system that is used here:
You serve yourself & pay by the ounce. I have never seen that done before with frozen yogurt.
There is a wall with dispensers for 12 flavors, which are constantly changing. They are all non-fat, and there is one sorbet, also non-fat.
You take your little sample cups and try which ever ones you wish. I tried pistachio and green tea. The green tea was on the tart side, like that other *cough* pink place serves.
I settled on a mix of strawberry & vanilla for my final choice.
Then you proceed to the toppings bar & go crazy! Haha it's great fun, like a yogurt and toppings buffet!
Then your overflowing cup of goodness goes on the scale & you pay 39 cents an ounce.
There was a kid in there who looked like he was having the best time of his life, haha!
Kathryn is a doll. You will love her when you meet her.
Lotus will be a great success! It already is.
Welcome to the neighborhood. Well done.

Love! Love! Love!!
Very excited about Lotus coming to Hermosa Beach! It's a great little twist to Pinkberry!
You're in charge and you have so many cool flavors to choose from, and what's best is is the self serve bar of toppings.
I think it's a great place to end the night after a long days work or after a day out in the sun!!
Can't wait to go back!!

These type of yogurt places are cropping up all over town and now there's this one in downtown Hermosa Beach.
It had all the signs of being a copy cat of Pinkberry with the 80s colored design scheme for their signage and modern minimalist decor of plastic chairs and tables also in the 80s mode.
The only difference is at this place, you actually serve yourself! I thought it was a novel concept but wasn't sure if I would end up with a $10 cup of yogurt or what!
The owner was nice enough to let us try the various flavors which was nice to see that they had more than 2-3 unlike the other asian froyo places.
I decided on the "no sugar added" strawberry froyo and loaded up with kiwi, watermelon, pineapple, blueberries, honeydew melons. Ha! Aren't we funny sometimes, I thought I'd save some calories on the yogurt but then loaded up on the fruit! Kinda of like robbing Peter to pay Paul, um, er, maybe not such a good analogy. Meh, anyways, they charge $0.37 an ounce and my concoction came out to $3.72. Not too bad I thought! Definitely less than what I'd pay at Stinkberry.
The dude's got a killer location right off of Pier Avenue on Hermosa Avenue so come summer, this place is going to be jammed with dehydrated skin-cancer-in-the-making beach goers. He said he was already busy all day last weekend! I guess the asian froyo idea has taken off in Hermosa.

this place was great! it had a bunch of options for the yogurt flavors and the worker here was really nice :]
i had a coupon for 50 % off any size so i got a large and filled it up to the top with the original flavor. i also added strawberries, mochi, and fruity pebbles. it was huge! and since i had the coupon ,it was only $4.88! such a good deal :]
my first time at a self-serve froyo place. they have a ton of flavors and toppings, including fresh fruit, choc, cereal, brownie, etc. i had the orig tart and cookies and cream yogurt last night w/ a lot of fresh fruit like blueberry, strawberry, mango, kiwi, lychee, and raspberry. at 39 cents an ounce, it adds up, but it makes for a healthy dessert!
My review is based on just one single visit. That was all that it took to determine that I am officially addicted.
(REVISED 5/26 - Went again today and am *totally* beyond words hooked on this stuff. ZOMG)
+ 1 Star - Delicious product. Oh, it is so tasty. I cannot begin to tell you how dang good it is.
+ 1 Star - Multi flavors. Not just a few like that *other* yoghurt place.
+ 1 Star - Serve it your self. It's nice to make your own arrangement. We are each such picky ppl here in the US, this is like our special nirvana, to put our own food together. Yippee to us control freaks.
- 1 Star - A tad pricey at 39 cents and ounce, even with my 20% off coupon from the local paper, a small cup with loads of fruit and not a ton of yoghurt clocked in at almost $4.
+ 1 Star - Fresh add-ons. Not frozen. The bananas were not even a touch brown, though exposed to the air in their little bins along side the berries, kiwi, lichees (holy crap I love lichees - if they only had vodka I would make a lichee yoghurt vodka martini right here and now), chopped this and that including nuts, granola, and all the naughty bad things like cookie dough and crushed oreos that make us fat and happy.
+ 1 Star - No other crap. It's a yoghurt place. Yoghurt places should serve nothing else - NOTHING - but yoghurt. So I decree.
+1 Star - Coolio vibe. Good music, a few chairs outside (all they could squeeze into such a small space - but those nice aluminum ones that I wish I could abscond with for *my* house) and lots of seating inside. Vibrant paint, clean floors. All in all, good times.
+ 1 Star - Sample the heck out of anything and everything. They give you tiny cups and you can try whatever you want. How cool, and how thoughtful.
+ 1 Star - Super nice help. The gal at the counter was just so darn nice. Bless her heart for talking me through every possible option and topping, including my new favorite, Mochi bits - I will have to go back again and have it with Kahlua yoghurt.
This is one of the best ideas to come to this part of the Hermosa Pier area in a while. I am addicted.

i had a feeling this would be good - they should change the name to fcuk pink berrry. i basically had a dollop of every single flavor and only had one (original) that i did not go nuts over - all the rest just puts pinkberry to shame. - can't wait to see this blow up like pinkberry did - well worth it - i would venture to say that coldstone creamery across the street is sweating right now.
