Rachael came to me highly recommended by a friend.  So I asked her to come over to my place to take care of my pet, who needed to be put to sleep after a long fight with cancer.  I have to confess I wasn't thrilled about her.   She was running 15 minutes late so I called her.  She was short on the phone and did not apologize for being late.  Once at my place she seemed eager to get the job done.  She didn't say much BUT I did feel a bit rushed.  She was about to administer the euthanasia medication for exmaple when my pet was still not fully 'asleep'.   I had to ask her to wait.   She did allow me to have the time I needed to say goodbye in the end, but again, I would say my experience was just average.

I called her cause I knew about her 'eastern practices' background so I thought she would be more compassionate then a vet that just carries a
'western/medical model' type of mentality, but I did not notice a difference.

I like Rachel, but I don't like my time wasted.

The form on the website is a great idea and should make the process flow smoothly. Scheduling was a problem and followthrough as well. Then being 35 minutes late is not ok.

I would highly recommend Dr. Feigenbaum.  She has provided great veterinary care for both our dogs.  She made a life saving diagnosis during one examination that resulted in early treatment of a tumor.  She also provided end of life care that gave our terminally ill dog a chance to enjoy her final days.  Also, practically speaking, house calls save a great deal of anxiety for my dogs.

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to write this review!

Dr. Rachael Feigenbaum is amazing on so many levels!

Perhaps it would be good for me to start in chronological order.

    PART ONE:
My elderly kitty cat was displaying a decrease in appetite, and needing some care, and Rachael came over to assess him.  (First of all, how great is it that she is COMING OVER to my home?)

    right?

Cat owners know.  Cats & Cars, not-so-much-fun.

So, yes -- you read that part right:  SHE COMES OVER TO MY HOME TO ASSESS MY KITTY!  What a relief!  And my kitty purrs quietly.  Dr. Feigenbaum is lovely with my elderly cat, Maps.  And Maps just purrs and purrs while she makes her assessment.

Dr. Rachael Feigenbaum gently listened to Maps' heart and lungs, palpated his kidneys and belly - and recommended some routine bloodwork, and perhaps some acupuncture.

    Acupuncture?

    For my kitty?

You bet I'm interested!  I am an acupuncturist myself, and was so happy to know that this holistic medicine could be provided for my own feline sweet kitty.

Turns out that Maps LOVED acupuncture!  He received about 6 sessions in all, and it was so lovely to just relax on my own sofa with Dr. Feigenbaum while Maps received his loving and healing treatment.

After the first acupuncture session, Maps went right over to his food dish and started eating!  A huge success!  I would absolutely recommend Dr. Feigenbaum as a veterinary acupuncturist!  My kitty just loved her!

    PART TWO:

More time goes by - Maps actually was able to out-live his litter-mate brother by FOUR years - and I attribute some of this "extra time" to Dr. Feigenbaum's excellent veterinary health care.

But, when the time came -- as it sometimes does -- Maps was very old, and had stopped eating -- and Dr. Feigenbaum was there for me again.  She came over in a moment's notice to assess Maps.

It was time.  It was Maps' time.  He had become very sick - and would not recover.  Dr. Feigenbaum was able to offer me something so beautiful -- something I didn't even know  could be as important as it was to me -- something I will remember for the rest of my life...

.... a beautiful & gracious & peaceful HOME euthanasia for Maps.

It was the most beautiful death for one of the most beautiful kitties in the world.

I will never forget how loving and gentle she was with him.  And her assistant, Lexie, was also amazing.  Just could not have been better.  To say "good-bye" to your sweet-little-kitty -- and have it be loving and beautiful and peaceful.

I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL TO YOU DR. FEIGENBAUM!

    PART THREE:

Fast forward.  More time goes by... it has almost been a year since Maps has passed on.

And now, we have adopted two new kittens:  BASIL & SAPPHIE.

They are sweet little kittens (not so little anymore!) -- and they met Dr. Feigenbaum during our first week with the kitties.  They needed examinations, assessments, de-worming medicine, injections, flea-medicine -- you name it!  These kitties needed health-care!

These kitties needed Dr. Feigenbaum!  She and Lexie came over - and offered me these great services in the comfort of my own home.

I cannot even stress this amazing benefit!  She makes house-calls!  Amazing!

So - with every little health issue that these kitties encounter, Dr. Feigenbaum is there for me.  And might I add:

    She returns my phonecalls promptly.

    She is always patient.

She is always careful to explain things to me - so that I feel I really understand completely.

    She truly loves animals.

There may be no greater gem than Dr. Rachael Feigenbaum, on yelp, in San Francisco, or perhaps -- in the world.

Thank you Dr. Feigenbaum!  Our household loves you!

    ~Amy P.

I highly recommend Dr. Rachael.  I recently had to put my dog of 14 years to rest.  It was a highly emotional and difficult situation and Dr. Rachael handled it with much compassion and empathy.  She was caring in her approach, ensured we all knew how it would proceed and allowed me to include a few moments of prayer and song that I wanted to include.

And even though she wasn't accepting new clients, she generously agreed to help me through this difficult time.  I feel fortunate to have been referred to her.  When I'm ready to have a new pet, I will definitely call upon her for my veterinary needs.

Rachael is amazing! She's intuitive, sensitive, nurturing and above all uber-compassionate with the animals she cares for (and their owners). I feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life and should you manage to get your loved ones on her schedule I'm certain you'll feel the same way. Thanks Rachael!!!

I highly recommend Rachael for anyone who has a pet fearful of hospitals or vets.  Recently, I had to make the decision to have my cat of 15 years, Maggie, put down.  She had been ill for some time, and her health had been declining rapidly the past 6 weeks.  I knew that during her final moments, I wanted that to be in familiar surroundings, with her family around her.

We were very fortunate to have found Rachael Feigenbaum, who makes house calls, and she was very sensitive to our needs.  Maggie hated just about everyone, but especially vets and hospitals.  But when Rachael and Lexi came in, Maggie remained very calm.  Although I was a mess, they remained very soothing and calm.  And soon, I was able to bring it together so that Maggie's transition wouldn't be so traumatic for her.

Rachael and her assistant, Lexi (Alexis), walked us through the process so that we would know exactly what was happening and what to expect.  It was all the more odd as my partner was in Argentina, but wanted to be supportive and also say his goodbyes, so we were using Skype through the entire process, and Rachael and Lexi were always aware and inclusive.

Most importantly, there was never any hurry.  Rachel and Lexi's calm and reassuring nature helped me calm down.  Maggie didn't budge when they came in, and didn't appear anxious at all.  She allowed them to pet and hold her.  Rachael and Alexis were very gentle with Maggie, and she went very peacefully while lying at first on my lap as she was sedated and then later next to me on the couch.  I petted her, calmed and reassured her, speaking to her softly during the process, until she had left us.  It is very hard to hold your composure in these situations, and my partner and I were certainly no exception.  I sobbed openly afterward hugging Maggie, as did my partner, virtually.  Rachael and Lexi gave many reassuring hugs afterward, both live and virtually for my partner.  And, they gave us some time alone with Maggie to grieve.

There is a definite quietness and emptiness in the house now that Maggie has left us.  And my dog and remaining cat are processing what has happened.  Maggie was a special creature and will be missed by her family.  But Rachael's care helped us through, and we know that Maggie is stronger now as her breath has joined forces with the wind and her voice, the rustling of the trees.  Maggie, may the journey you've already begun be a glorious one!

    Thank you Rachael and Lexi...

I recommended Dr. Rachel Feigenbaum to a good friend with a 13-year-old dog, suddenly seriously ill; and with vet phobia.  Dr. Feigenbaum, although not taking new clients, agreed to see Kiri.

Kiri had a mass in her abdomen, was in obvious pain, and it was decided that there was not much point to extensive diagnostics.

A week or so later, it was clearly time for Kiri to transition.  Dr. Feigenbaum, and her wonderful vet tech assistant Alexis Perez (who does in-home animal services), came to Ruth's house to euthanize Kiri.

Both she and Alexis were kind, sensitive, unrushed, and very caring.  It was a good transition for Kiri, and as easy as possible for Ruth, her mother, and myself.  Never easy -- but necessary.

I would welcome both Dr. Feigenbaum and Alexis Perez into my home to help my animal friends, should the need ever arise.  Neither is vet-phobic, but at-home euth is the way to go, should that sorry day ever come.

Rachel, thank you so much for the email today.  I have gone back through my emails and I did find yours.  I only wish it could have been a call instead, due to urgency, but at this point it seems as if it may not have made a difference in the ultimate outcome.

You actually appear to be someone who cares more about the pet than the money, and that is much appreciated.  Hopefully this update will cancel out the previous post.  I didn't want to delete it in case it might be referenced.  I do retract my post.

My dog Zoe and I have been teamed up for 14 years now.  In that time we've lived all over the globe (Manhattan, San Francisco, North Shore).  We've had our fair share of vets and we both knew we had a good one the first day Dr. Feigenbaum came through our door.  Yes, our door, she makes housecalls.  She returns phone calls (promptly).  Listens to us (me & Zoe).

MPH was snotty, played the guilt card for expensive tests and generally disinterested.  Rachael was the inverse of these things and then some.

Sometimes I wish I was a dog so she could be my doctor.  That's about the nicest thing I can think of to say about her.  I almost didn't want to post this review because we want her all to ourselves.

"Dr. Feigenbaum's name is a mouthful but don't let her name scare you off. She is one of the most compassionate doctors I've ever met. I believe she cares as much about my dog's health as I do.
She's helped us through accidents and illness and help keep my dog healthy for nearly 8 years. In fact, my dog is so healthy from the good care that people often ask how old is my PUPPY.
My dog is afraid of most everyone but she actually wags her tail in excitement when she sees Dr. F.
I have recommended Dr. F. to friends for in-home euthanasia for their old, sickly pets. My friends said they appreciated how she took time to calmly and lovingly examine their pets and how compassionate and patient she was with their process.
If you have an animal in pain Dr. F's acupuncture can help. It's worked for my best friend."

Anyone who has pets knows what a pain in the a** it is to rally them into carriers to go to the vets office.  Once you are at the vet you have to "socialize" with other people who feel the need to say stuff like "oh you have rabbits?  I used to when I was a kid".  Like I care about their childhood pets.  Next thing you know they are trying to pet your animals and be your best friend and bond over the experience.  Can't stand this.  Thank god I found Dr. Rachael Feigenbaum.

She came to my home, treated all my bunnies in a safe and knowledgeable manner and even did acupuncture on them which was beyond cool.  It was the least stressful vet visit I have ever experienced.  Rachael has a great way with both people and animals.  Definitely recommend her!

Dr. Feigenbaum was excellent. I first tried her out because the idea of a house call seemed perfect for my dog (she gets really nervous in examination rooms), and I needed to get some things looked at. The help and advice that I got was spot-on. The doctor was patient and understanding with my dog and had an answer for every question I could think of.
After years of taking my Dweezil to go see vets who are either callous and uncaring, or too eager to resort to expensive and invasive methods, it's just really good to know I've finally found a vet I'm entirely confident/happy with.

I actually saw Dr. Feigenbaum at Pets Unlimited, where she works one day a week.  But I initially contacted her for a house call.  She responded with her available times, but also mentioned Pets Unlimited, which was free for the first visit because I had recently adopted my cat from a shelter.  It obviously would have been more lucrative for her to do a home visit, but she chose to make me aware of a better option for me.

She was very gentle with my cat, patient with all of my questions as a first time pet owner, and very professional.  She also offered to clip my cat's nails when I asked her a question about how to trim them.  She (and her vet tech) made my first vet visit as easy as possible.

Recently I had to put my dog of 10 1/2 years to sleep because he had developed a fast growing cancer and was suffering.  It was probably one of the toughest emotional situations I've had to endure.  I just moved to San Francisco 2 months ago and saw Dr. Feigenbaum's Lotus Veterinary on Yelp and noticed she had glowing 5 stars only.  Plus she does house calls and that is exactly what we wanted for our dog.  We didn't want his last few moments of life spent at his most hated place, the vet office.  So Dr. Feigenbaum came to our house to do the procedure and brought an assistant as well. They were both so kind and caring.  And the whole event went as smoothly as I'd hoped.  She helped us and our dog out tremendously and on short notice as well.  I would strongly recommend her.

I wanted to update my review so I could mention that Lexi, Dr. Feigenbaum's assistant, is starting an in-home pet care service called A Pet's Tale.  So if you're out of town, you can get a sweet, 100% trustworthy and medically trained pet sitter! I adore Dr. Feigenbaum because she's the best vet I've ever had (in over 20 years as a pet owner) and Lexi is perfect as her assistant.  She can even calm my practically ferrel crazy cat so they can draw blood, or whatever needs to be done (outside of surgery.)
I know Lotus is really busy because there aren't a lot of vets who make house calls, and they're so good at what they do.  It's unfair that someone left a 1 star review because he filled out a form online and didn't get a quick response- if he had called, I'm pretty certain he would have received a call back, or a message that would have cleared things up.  Sometimes vets take vacations! (it was on her voicemail...)

Dr. Feigenbaum came to our home on time and ready to work. She handled my two scardy-kitties with gentleness and professionalism. Murphy and Maxine are indoor cats and I don't take them to the vet, because they have been so healthy. But at 10 years old, it was time to have a checkup! Dr. Feigenbaum checked them out, pronounced them fit and eased my mind. I was delighted that I didn't have to take my cats to her, and cause us all such stress (what a baby I am!). Thanks, Dr. Feigenbaum!

I highly recommend Rachael Feigenbaum! We have a 16 year old dog named Maggie, who has terrible arthritis. Rachael has been treating Maggie with acupuncture for two months now, and we see such an improvement in Maggie's mobility and overall quality of life. Rachael also sees our two younger dogs for routine health care. Best of all, she makes house calls! Rachael is so compassionate, and we are thankful to have found a veterinarian who offers a holistic approach to caring for our pets.

Dr. Rachael is compassionate, professional and trustworthy.  Having just moved here from Texas and not having a vet to turn to, she was recommended to us by our cat sitter.  I now know that I will never have to look elsewhere for a vet.  Making house calls is an absolute plus, especially for an elderly cat that does not travel well.  I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Our old sick cat had always gone into paroxysms of fear over visits to the vet's office. When it became painfully clear that it was time to put her down, Rachael came to our house twice to help us through the process and allow our cat a dignified and peaceful exit. Rachael was friendly, caring, and, above all, very patient. While we were sad to see our cat go, we are very thankful that we had a professional and empathetic doctor to listen to us and give our cat a calm and loving end.

Having just moved from the East Coast, I was a bit worried about transitioning my dog to a new vet.  After much researching on yelp, I found Dr. Rachael Feigenbaum. She came over to our house to take care of Ruka (who is a big baby when it comes to vet visits!)  Ruka really enjoyed showing Dr. Rachael all her toys and seemed to remain calm throughout the entire exam.  Dr. Rachael's prices are actually below what I would have paid for the same service back East and it was a great experience for me and Ruka.  Rachael is very responsive (i.e. send her an email and you'll hear back within 24 hours, but usually much sooner) and personable.  I would recommend her to anyone!

I could not be happier with Dr. Feigenbaum. I wrestled with myself for a while about whether the price tag for having someone come to the house was worth it and I finally decided to just go ahead and do it. It was nice having her come and see my pets in their "natural" environment. It saved me time and it certainly made for two happier kitties. What has made all this so spectacular, though, has been the followup. The kitties needed an appointment with a specialist and Rachael took care of everything. She made the appointment, she dealt with the vet when things needed to be rescheduled. She called and made sure everything was okay. She is simply wonderful. And, if you want someone to be there for you every step of the way, she is the person to call. I recommend her very highly. She also noticed a potential problem in my elderly kitty that explains his weight loss when no other vet could figure it out.

Dr. Feigenbaum is the best vet I have ever had and that's saying a lot.  I have probably had (5) different vets in the Bay Area over the years and while all were quite good, Dr. Feigenbaum is fantastic!  Currently my dog Soleil suffers from arthritis and some nerve damage in her back legs.  At 14 years old, my Lab is everything to me and when she was running out of options when we decided to try acupuncture and Chinese herbs.  She is doing great after only 6 - 7 weeks  and she doesn't mind the procedure at all!  Dr. Feigenbaum is so gentle and insightful, I trust her totally with the care of my beloved companion!

Dr. Feigenbaum was a very nice (lovely) person who has great energy and patience.  Unfortunately, she mis-diagnosed my cat as having an infection and put him on anti-biotics when what he really had was advanced lymphoma.  Sadly a few weeks later I had to call her for a home euthanasia and it did not go well at all.  She was unable to get a vein and kept trying and trying and trying while my poor cat lie there struggling.  I finally told her to stop.  My cat passed away on his own minutes later.  I still think about how a vet tuned into the animal completely would have stopped poking and poking and realized that she couldn't get the vein and let it go.  I also wonder what suffering could have been spared had he received the proper diagnosis from the beginning, and not subjected to anti-biotics which likely made him feel worse.  It was after rushing him to the ER that he was diagnosed properly.  The upside of Dr. Feigenbaum is that she is a nice person with a good heart but her diagnostic and technical skills need improving.

My two dogs would not be alive without the excellent Dr. Feigenbaum. Three years ago, Cocoa could hardly walk. Her doctor said she had arthritis and kept increasing anti-inflammatory drugs. This had been going on for over a year. Dr.  Feigenbaum took one look at her and knew there was a thyroid problem. Today Cocoa is 14, playful and extremely active. She fetches sticks, plays with her toys and takes a walk every day. My other dog, Trixie, has epilepsy. Dr. Feigenbaum has helped me manage her disease through a combination of traditional medications, Chinese herbs, acupuncture, etc. At one time I was close to putting Trixie down because she seemed to be failing, but Dr. Feigenbaum realized she was reacting to her bromide medication and restored her back to health. I have complete trust in her ability to do what is right for my doggies.
