Two months in a hotel bed, and my back was starting to complain. I'd actually gone to Mary Shutan and Lotus Bodywork based on the other Yelps, and though the price for non-students is a bit higher ($75 for an hour), not only is the studio filled with beautiful Asian art and music, her massage is pure magic.
I'd asked about reiki (a non-touch redirecting of energy flow), so she integrated the reiki with the massage, saying she'd reserve the last 15 minutes for the reiki. Even during the regular massage portion, I caught myself snoring more than once, but once the reiki started, my subatomic particles immediately became nonlocal, existing everywhere simultaneously in the space-time continuum, winking out into an invisible field of potential before resuming their three-dimensional existence as the subatomic particles, however temporarily, that happened to make up the thing I call myself.
It was that good. -

The entire treatment was painful. Every single needle hit a nerve and felt like a bolt of lightening going up my body.
I told her that I wanted to be treated for Fibromyalgia. She said "what is that?" Are you kidding me?
The office wasn't clean and she didn't wash her hands until after the treatment. It was horrible. -

Wow, Mary Shutan was amazing - I had a 60 minute signature massage for her - it is usually $65 but I had a school discount for only $55 and the massage was heavenly. Now, I'm really picky since I've taken massage classes before (Tui Na and Sweedish massage) but Mary was perfect.
She does work out of home which just makes it cozy and comfortable. She's very professional and good at what she does. Knots that I never knew existed were immediately worked on and I felt so amazingly relaxed and soothed. She used multiple techniques on me - I could feel the tui na on certain parts and shiatsu on the others, and the rest - I was in euphoria so I stopped judging after that. Also, if you mention her website, you can get $10 off your first massage - here's a tip - she's cash only for first time customers, but after that, you can pay her with check or credit card. And the week of your birthday, if you bring her your id and show it to her, that's $15 off. -

I had my first massage with Mary tonight and am more than impressed. I've never found a therapist that I really wanted to return to - but I feel like Mary might be that person. She really took time to walk through her intake forms, and to talk through what I was comfortable with and had experienced before. She did the massage, but incorporated some of her other areas as well, which resulted in, I think, a far superior experience.

She is a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac) with a Master of Science degree (MSTOM), a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), Reiki Master or Practitioner in multiple systems, has certified and taken Advanced training in Zero Balancing, and has Advanced training in CranioSacral Therapy.
