I love dining out, but what I hate the most is the moment when the waiter or waitress appears to take my order. I can see the eyes roll, and hear the muffled groans of, "oh no... here she goes again".

But.

This does not happen at a place that offers "Build your own _____". Special requests, additions, deletions and all sorts of stuff are not only allowed, but welcome.... with open arms.

So.

For this, and the variety of options available to build your own pizzas, pitas, sandwiches and the like.... I'm a fan. For the laid back atmosphere, neighborhood bar - slash - family restaurant feel.... I'm a fan. For the fact that you can order a glass of half way decent wine, a beer that you've probably never heard of, OR indulge in a milkshake, given your mood.... I'm a fan.

I wonder if I can "build my own" milkshake flavors. Hmmm.

Meh.  This is the third time I've eaten here and tonight's meal was as average as the rest.  The barely warm Fat Molly Sandwich ($6.95) was covered in lumpy, formerly frozen spinach.  The Italian fries ($2.95) were greasy.  The bowl of chicken corn chowder ($3.95) was good - well seasoned with large chunks of chicken.

Service was good.  The waitress fixed a problem quickly (the cooks forgot the chicken and feta cheese on my sandwich) and kept our drinks topped off.

This restaurant is LOUD.  We sat at a table in the bar area and could not hold a conversation without raising our voices.  It was happy hour on a Friday evening and very busy.

Bottom line:  this place wants to be liked.  The dog-love theme is admirable but the food disappoints.

Because I'm stuck in suburbia at the moment, I can't get to 2 Amys or Paradiso.

At Lost Dog, the Big Red Pie (one of the few that isn't named after a dog or a breed) seems the closest to my favorite: the margherita.  But where's the basil?  How come the Rin Tin Tin doesn't have the promised herb, either?  And good god, frozen spinach?  Blech!!  The sauce is good; just give me a little less.  Then maybe the crust won't feel like a wet paper towel.

That said, they're quick to correct a mistake and do so gracefully.  Their delivery boys remind me of the frat boys I went to college with, the nice ones, not the assholes.  Their menu is entertaining, and I like a restaurant with a noble mission.  If I did adopt an abandoned animal, I'd probably share my pizza with it.

**The 'Redskin' bbq beef sandwich vs. The Washington Redskins**

Similarities:
-Can't stay hot for more than 15 minutes
-Gets burnt on the edges
-Clearly dead

Differences:
-One is a great value, the other feels like felony sexual assault to my wallet.
-One takes 10 minutes. I'm in, I'm out. The other takes about 3 hours to exit the parking lot.
-One has a pretty cool owner. The other shouldn't own a poopball team, let alone an NFL team.

Just finishing lunch at the new (June '09) location, and I'm impressed.

Excellent service, extensive menu, good quality food.

Their roasted chicken corn chowder is great.  A cup of that and a toasted pastrami 'n cheese sub made for a tasty lunch.  A fun and friendly place.

Ahhh, Lost Dog Cafe... Definitely a mixed bag... or breed. Heh.

For the vegetarian, Lost Dog has a surprising amount of vegetarian sandwiches and pizzas. Their menu is very extensive. They're pretty tasty too. I've tried the Veggie and the Healthy Dog, which were both pretty good. It does kinda stink that you have to tag on an extra 75 cents for chips and a pickle since the sandwiches aren't that cheap. But that's more nit picky...

The worst thing about the place is that the service is TERRIBLE. Granted, I went there when it was just reopening on a Saturday night, but they can do better than that. We got in around 6:15 and were not seated till about 7. Then the waitress was so slow and flaky that we didn't get out till 9. It may be better to visit during off or lunch hours.

On the other hand, the proceeds go to help homeless dogs and cats. And it's decorated in ridiculously cute doggie posters that celebrate the wonder that is the dog. So, for the menu, the decor, and the benefits to local shelters, I support the Lost Dog Cafe!

The Lost Dog Cafe has some of the best food in the Arlington area!  Their sandwichs are excellent!  The appetizers and salads are always hearty!  The pizza is always exceptional, and you can even order a pizza par baked, bring it home and cook it in your own oven when you are ready for dinner!

They have an outstanding beer selection!

And hey, what's not to love about a business who donates a portion of your bill to help rescue animals in need?!

Why people love this place is beyond me.
I ordered salad and pizza to go and the salad was brown and mushy, and the pizza rubbery and tasteless.

Lost Dog Café seems to be a pretty solid representation of Va pizza and perhaps local non-ethnic food culture in general.  The quality of the food is average.  It's not memorable in a totally neutral way.  Considering its forgetability, the prices seem a tad high.

That said, the service is decent, the staff is friendly, the environment is pleasant , and the owners are publicly passionate about a great cause.  I wouldn't recommend this place as must-visit, but if for some strange reason you get lost and find yourself in the neighborhood, Lost Dog Café wouldn't be a bad spot to grab a bite to eat, either.

ps
they've got a huge beer selection here.  If you're looking for a place to grab some good beer with your pizza, Lost Dog Café might actually be one of the area's better options.

Came here last Saturday for the Knights of the Round Pie UYE, and I must say that I was pleased. Got there early with HP, who was nice enough to give me a lift from the Metro to the joint but not quick enough to warn me about the Lost Dog Ale. GROSS.

When our table was ready, we settled and ordered three main pies: Polynesian, Kujo, and Pittbull -- my personal favorite, and not just because I picked it.

With its ham and pineapple, among other things, the Polynesian is very reminiscent of the Hawaiian pizza, which I'm not really a fan of. It tasted okay, but nothing really stood out.

The chicken in the Kujo pie turned out to be a little bit too dry, which really detracted from the overall taste.

And then there was the Pittbull pizza; this pizza is meat galore, complete with pastrami, ham, pepperoni, and salami. It was as succulent as you can imagine, and quickly became my favorite.

This place is pretty tiny, so be careful if you decide to show up with a biggish crowd; be aware that they don't take reservations and that you may be in for a bit of a wait. Thankfully, they have a bar. Just stay away from the Lost Dog Ale.

I haven't been to the Lost Dog Café since I moved to Alexandria and found new places to eat four years ago.  But I was able to have a little reunion with the place for the first outing of the Knights of the Round Pie!

It was as cramped as I remember it, although an expansion is finally in the works.  The huge selection of mostly domestic microbrews was still available, although I was not able to take advantage of it due to my lack of fundage.

I was reminded of the restaurant's self-important attitude when the bartender gave us a hard time about not letting us be seated "until the whole group was there" even though five out of our party of seven was already in attendance and blocking the aisle at the bar.  I was also informed that there was a three-beer limit there because this was a "family place" and "they didn't want people to linger."  Get over yourselves guys, you are not the only game in town.

Luckily, we were seated in the back room, which had a lot more breathing space, and were assigned to a server who easy-going and generous in contrast to the management.  We settled on three large pizzas for the group, the "Polynesian," the "Pitbull Pie" and the "Kujo Pie."  All had unique combinations of toppings and they covered all of our interests.

After a reasonable amount of time, the pizzas came out to our salivating group.  Unfortunately, they were all overcooked.  Now, I like a little brown on my cheese, but all three of these pizzas were completely brown-colored, to the point that we couldn't even recognize the toppings on them.  They were still edible, so we didn't send them back, but the inattention of the kitchen certainly reduced the quality of the pies.  And that was on top of a crust that was too dry and crunchy to start with.

So the bottom line is that you never know how the pizzas are going to come out here.  Why take the chance when the pies cost so much?

But we were sufficiently filled up by the end and were anxious to move on to the next stop on our quest for the ultimate (or at least decent) pie.  Onwards and upwards!

The 1st Knight's of the Round Pie UYE finally got me in here. It was probably good that there were only 7 of us as the place is pretty small and cramped. But with not long a wait they were able to seat us in the back room and pie time did ensue.

ATMOSPHERE / SERVICE

The place is tiny, they won't take reservations, and as others have commented they won't seat you until all your party is present. When you are gathering up 7 people - this makes for a very awkward wait in the narrow space by the bar. I think this place is much better served for a casual dinner with a friend or two as opposed to any group exceeding 4.

Our waiter was very friendly and efficient. He took very good care of us even though we had a large(ish) group and he was also taking care of the 4 other tables in the back room.

FOOD

The Pizza in general:
Crust - Severely lacks character. Its thin and crispy (good) but really doesn't add anything positive flavor-wise to the experience. Literally just there supporting the toppings.

Sauce - I really liked their sauce both for the flavor (just the right amount of sweetness and acidity to complement the other toppings) and the quantity (just the right amount)

Overall pie experience: We ordered the Pitbull, Polynesian, and Kujo. Every one of them came out with the tops burned. I'm a huge fan of Neapolitan pizza - I embrace the little char that the edges of the crust might get from the oven, this was not that. The toppings were over cooked approaching burned and particularly on the Polynesian the burnt ham significantly detracted from the taste.

Price - Maybe a bit pricy (especially when you consider ours were singed) but they are very generous with most of the toppings so I'm not going to ding them there.

From those ordered, I tried the Polynesian and the Kujo.

Polynesian (Homemade tomato sauce, shrimp, hickory ham, pineapple, bacon and extra cheese) - This was ok. For a pie boasting "extra cheese" I really felt there was just a normal quantity. There was a generous amount of ham but not really a discernible amount of bacon. This was my pick for pie and I think I had higher hopes for it than were delivered.  I missed "shrimp" on the menu and the 1st slice I tried so there wasn't a huge amount and not really sure it added anything to the pie other than price.

Kujo (Homemade tomato sauce with pesto, artichoke hearts, grilled chicken breast, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil) - I was really excited about trying this as I love everything it boasts and in particular the artichokes and fresh tomatoes but the dry chicken was really detractor.

OVERALL:

I love LD's support for pet adoption.

I like its quaintness and could see pulling up for a soup and sandwich particularly on a drizzly day. From the massive display of beers at the bar and in the shop area, I can easily spy some of the labels I like - so no more beer hunting. I know just where to go for my favorites. There are plenty of things on the menu other than pizza (which I'll pass on probably in future). So I will be back to sample further from them.

I debated a while about writing this review, b/c I love this place.  In addition to it's huge selection of decent pizzas, subs, and beer, Lost Dog Cafe is a great establishment serving a wonderful cause.  My pizza this time was not a disappointment.  We made our own unusual creation which included chicken, pineapple, bacon and onions--and it was great!  So it wasn't the food that upset me, it was the leaky bathroom where stuff was dripping from the ceiling and onto my head--YUCK and it was the baby cockroach that crawled by me on the wall near the table (after we paid our bill) that made me squirm.  I killed it with my napkin and walked out wondering if I'd ever feel the need to come back.  The leftovers---yummy as they might have been--are still sitting in the fridge untouched.  Sigh.

Lost Dog North, how glad am I that you reopened!!! Though you continue to hire the most insanely clueless people to answer your phones and take orders (seriously, your phone service is quite the joke around here), I love your food, and I love how earnest you all are -- a good attitude goes a long way toward excusing bad service.

Yummy!!!  I was really impressed by the pizza here... ample toppings, delicious crust, lots of cheesy goodness.  My biggest complaint about most pizzas is usually that the cheese to toppings ratio is off, or the toppings are too chunky to easily eat without a knife and fork.  Lost Dog tackles this by chopping the veggies into small pieces (the green pepper we had almost seemed like it was shaved into tiny slices) and putting them mostly underneath a blanket of cheese.  I even liked the onions, which were cooked through and sliced small instead of giant raw rings.  Some of the best pizza I've had in a while!

The beer selection is substantial and offers something for everyone.  There are also some mean looking root beer floats and milkshakes that the kids at the table next to us plowed through.  The sandwich menu boasts something like 52 choices, which combined with the myriad options for pizza toppings gives you quite a selection.  Gotta be something for just about everyone there, too.

All the tables were full pretty much the entire time we were there from 7pm-9pm or so, though we didn't actually have to wait at all for a table for two.  It is a very cozy space - expect to share not only bits of overheard conversation but practically table space with your neighbors.  If that's not your scene, you can pick up orders to go at the adjacent deli.  Our waitress seemed like she was being pulled in a lot of directions and didn't have much time for us, but she got our order out quickly and kept our waters full.

I would eat here all the time if I lived closer: great food, fun and casual atmosphere, supports a great cause (Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, http://www.yelp.com/bi... ) - winner all the way around.

Among the best pizza places in the DC area.  Lost Dog has a wide variety of homemade pizzas. I sampled one with shrimp, scallops, and crab; it was a white pizza and was delicious!  Also had one with portabellos and artichoke hearts; and another with sausage.  All were very tasty, and the crust was good as well.

The downside is that the place is not metro-accessible.  Also, I believe that the pizza at Dogfish Head pub, at Seven Corners, is better because the crust is crispier and has a wood-fired oven flavor.

When you walk in, you stroll past what appears to be a wine and beer shop.  Lost Dog has a wide variety of beers.  My party had Turbodogs and Purple Haze from Louisiana.  I had Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale (they also had Aprihop, 90 Minute IPA, and Raison d'Etre.

I give this place two thumbs up.

Positives: The pizza boasted a thin, buttery crust that had a nice balance between crispyness and chewiness. And the draft rootbeer was perfect---not too sweet with a little bite.

Negatives: My boyfriend and I were immediately salivating over the long list of draft beers. And we had a while to make a selection, since no one came to our table for a full twenty minutes, even though the restaurant was not full. After trying to get someone's attention, we were blatantly ignored by one server who watched us sitting there, trying to get her attention, as she ate a slice of pizza. Eventually a server came over and informed us that the only draft beverage they were offering that night was root beer. We got a bottle list (again, great selection) and my boyfriend ordered a beer and received one about ten minutes later--- although not the one he ordered.

As I ate my pizza, I watched two very large ants scurry across the floor. Upon leaving, they were already mopping the floor by the exit and had left unavoidable puddles of water right by the door, even though the restaurant still had plenty of customers.

It's too bad, because the pizza is excellent. And though one may respond with "Well why don't you just have it delivered?," I have, many times, and every time it has been ice cold, while the beer has been lukewarm. I figured eating at the actual restaurant would make the Lost Dog experience better. My mistake.

I heart Lost Dog.  Not only is the artwork and overall "vibe" great, but the food is delicious and they support a noble cause.  Sure the tables wobble more than a bent record and the seating is more cramped than a Metro car on July 4th - but what can you do?

Don't miss the Italian Fries (Supposedly baked in addition to being fried).  I also recommend the Pound Hound.

Over 200 beers here but no Labatt's Blue? I somehow always seem to get screwed over with this at most places, disappointing but I won't hold it against you that much.

So we ordered the Pizza Di Mare, Yankee sub, and Cowgirl sub. The pizza was awesome, I highly recommend it for seafood lovers. Its covered with scallops, crab meat and shrimp... all brought together with creamy cheese sauce. Best seafood pizza I've had in a long while.

I didn't have the Yankee sub but it looked great and my friend gave it a thumbs up. The cowgirl was a little underwhelming, I wished it had some more meat to make it a nicely balanced philly cheese chicken like sub.

The service here was great, our waiter was friendly and conversational. He made little comments like "ooh good choice on pizza, this looks great!" and "yeah, Labatt's blue is one of my favorites", that made us feel good about our choices and excited for our food, lol. He even brought out a couple of beers from the cooler to pick and choose from when we said we wanted something Czech.

I've only had Lost Dog delivered so I can't speak for the experience at the cafe itself. But there have been times where the delivery guys were VERY familiar with my crew and I. The food here is quite good and they have a great selection of sandwiches, my favorites being Da Basil and Healthy Dog, while my husband has devoured the Phoenix and The Bird. We have some family members who request Lost Dog when visiting from out of state...often that includes the Tomato & Feta, Pointer and Cheesesteak Pizzas. The food can stand on its own, but when you add the fact that the owners run rescue foundation for lost dogs and cats, I am just smitten.

I'm still not sure what keeps me coming back.  Is it the Muttly or HCBLT or is it the nostalgia I get from returning to my old high school hangout.  It's a little bit like the Max from Saved by the Bell where you'll very likely run into someone you know.  Unfortunately, I never see Zack Morris here.  Even though I've been coming here over 10 years, I think I've only tried 5 things on the menu.

The Muttly  is great because you feel good about eating spinach (even if it is loaded with a pound of cheese).  If I'm not feeling in a sandwich mood, I usually go for the delicious 7 layer dip.  Don't forget to try their Clemson Tiger Tea.   A great hang-out place, especially since they never make you feel bad about sitting around long after you finish eating.

I ordered the Italian pizza and garlic cheese bread. They promised delivery within 30 minutes and within 30 minutes, my order came! I'm impressed, considering I'm used to waiting for pizza to arrive within 45 - 60 minutes in California.

Their pizza is pretty good. The slices are large and have the toppings under the cheese. The cheese bread arrived more like a melted cheese hoagie, but it was good. It could have used more garlic though.

With their fast service and large selection of pizzas, I'm sure I'll order from them again and again.

Solid, 3.5 and I know that's well below the average here.  I'm willing to go again to see if it can get that extra .5

I was sold on their mission of helping out their animal adoption program, so I needed to check it out.  The place was super packed, and very small.  I would be that they can still have every seat in the house filled in a place twice as large.

Beer selection was super primo, a pleasant surprise for a little Arlington joint.  Problem was they were a little bit overpriced on the drinks.  That's ok, it's a good cause.

We ordered pizzas, but the sandwiches looked way better. Certain to order next time.  Pizzas were decent.  Crusts were on the soft side and definitely large, even the "smaller" ones.  Now, I love cheese and all, but these slices were a bit on the overload level.  Way, way cheesy to the point of other ingredients being overshadowed.  Solid pizza, but not great.  Certainly will be back for more.  Wait staff was extra nice and made the wait for a table comfortable.

This local sandwich/pizza/beer/wine joint totally rocks it out of the park....and I cannot believe I didn't find this cafe any sooner!  Who's the sick, little lost puppy now?!

They have the best gourmet sandwiches ever...with about 50 variety of sandwiches to choose from, all of which are named cleverly.  It's no wonder they can offer this much, I'm sure each one is spectacular in taste.  I am pretty sure you will find one (or several) to your liking and if nothing suits your fancy, you can build your own damn sandwich.  Because of the plentiful choices, know that they have been smart in highlighting the "Lost Dog" favorites, so hopefully, that should help narrow down your selections.  I picked a favorite no.36 and it was delicious!  Fresh amazing toppings, excellent everything...very easy to stuff your face.

I have to rave additionally about their baked onion rings.  BAKED!!  Which I hope is the equivalent to semi-healthy.  It had a nice jalapeno kick to it.  They also serve tons of wine and beer variety...and even carry a ton of beer brands that you may purchase to go.

Lastly, they support and aid efforts in the adoption of dogs.  I mean, seriously--very cool cause.  Loves it!  If you like cats, check out their sister rstaurant, Stray Cats which is a few doors down.

I have heard nothing but good things about Lost Dog Cafe since I moved to Arlington.  It seems to be a really "hip" place to go, and I was in the mood to be trendy.  I finally had the chance to try it last week.  I was pizzaed out and opted for one of the sandwiches.  They offer a ton of sandwiches on their menu, probably more than 50.  I opted for a Republican sandwich.  It was good, although I'm not sure how I feel about the cole slaw used as a condiment on it.  I also saw they had Boston Creme Pie, which is my ultimate dessert weakness.  The sandwich was a 6, but the pie was a 10.

The place was packed when we went, so much so that there was no way we were getting a seat for a long time.  We got ours take out, where there was also a huge line.  Lost Dog seems to have cornered the Westover neighborhood market.  I guess its good for me, though, that they're moving to Columbia Pike across the street from the Drafthouse, which is much much closer.

There is a well stocked beer store in the take out area that is perfect to peruse while you wait for your food.  It shows that they really care about their brewdogs, which is refreshing.  As a pet owner, I also appreciate the work they do helping strays and such.

The impending move will be a real loss for Westover, but a huge gain for me.  So that works out perfectly I'd say.

Three words:
AWESOME
BEER
SELECTION

My aunt asked if they had a list of available bottled beer and the waiter's response was:
"Go ahead. Tell me what you're looking for and I'll tell you if I've got it."

They've got even the most obscure labels... pretty much anything you want is there!

Went for my dad's birthday, he loves their pizza, so I just had to see what all the fuss was about.

Started off with the "Dog Collars" - baked Tabasco flavored onion rings with ranch dipping sauce.  Being the spicy food-connoisseur I am, I had to try them - and they were awesome... definitely tasted like Tabasco, but just spicy enough.

Ordered a cheese pizza with onions and tomatoes and the Greek Pizza... both were great - I'm not a fan of olives so I left the Greek Pizza (after trying a small piece) to the fam, but it was good.  The crust is great, sauce is awesome, and they put plenty of cheese!

I ordered a side of sesame noodles for $1.95 because I heard a girl outside talking about them, and they were decent - unfortunately couldn't finish the last couple bites because they were absolutely SWIMMING in sesame oil... which is a bit potent.  I wish they'd been a bit spicier... and the serving only had about 6 or 7 bites, so it was a bit disappointing.

I gave the place 5 stars because the food was good enough, service was good enough, and the cause they stand for is stellar.

I'm a dog lover and would support any business that partners with the humane society to try to save dogs... great idea.

I'd go back - would love to try one of their dozens of sandwiches!

I definitely think the place has promise, and I'll be back, but our first visit was somewhat nauseating.

We got some kind of meat lovers pizza with pastrami on it, and I knew that I wasn't going to get a healthy meal.  However, I didn't expect the entire pizza to be totally soaked in grease. Our leftovers were so greasy that they actually stuck to the bottom of the pizza box - I only tried to eat one slice of the leftover pizza, but I had to scrape the cardboard off the bottom of the pizza to do so.

The beer selection was good, but beers were really damn pricey - not what I'd expect for a place that's not Metro accessible at all

I'll go back and get a healthier-sounding pizza someday, but if it's even half as soggy and greasy as my first try, that's the end of this place for me.

I love this place - great pizza and sandwiches, good beer. Some of the staff is in perpetual bad mood, but the food makes up for it.

My friend and I ended up going there because it was going to be cheaper than Faccia Luna in Arlington.  You get what you pay for.  I can't say the pizza here was anything good; it's a step above delivery.  If you are feeling like endulging in junk food, this would be a good place, but I wanted a more traditionally Italian pizza.  The beer selection was extensive, but I can't say it was spectacular.

GREAT beer selection - Super yummy pizza.

I told the partner (after a few beers) how I felt like I was on an 80s date - Local pizza & beer w/ a cute little ice cream shoppe down the street to boot.  Of course this local pizza joint has pies with a yuppie twist and belgian beers :)

This little area just has that vibe at nighttime - and I love every minute of it.

I want to love this place, because of the whole saving the dogs thing.  But I can never really bring myself to dig it the way others do.  Basic breakdown:

Pros:  Awesome beer selection, very cool atmosphere, and you help puppies by eating there.  The vegetarian sandwiches tend to be pretty good.

Cons:  The food overall is not great.  I think their meat always tastes overdone and dry, and their pizzas are soggy (either due to too many toppings or an insufficient crust).  And if you get sat in that back room, it is super loud.

So in theory, I like the Lost Dog, but I can easily think of places in Arlington where you can get better sandwiches or pizza.

The atmosphere is intimate, yet boisterous with a hint of frat. It's wholly casual, and proud of it. The service fits this description as well but it's not a detractor by any means.

They have a huge selection of sandwiches and pizza. I often find myself ordering either a fancy grilled cheese with some soup or the Mexican pizza called the Burro Pie. The whole wheat crust with the refried beans, crispy wantons, lettuce and ranch type sauce is very satisfying.

Their beer selection is a reason alone to visit. Sitting at the bar is a great option and sometimes your only option if you don't want to wait for a table. Well, sitting at the bar is a bit optimistic. I really meant to say standing near the bar. It's that popular.

They have a phenomenal selection of alcohol that you can purchase to go. I am often torn as to which I prefer, this place or the stray cat.

Good food, good service, well thought out place, and best of all, the place where I feel best eating foods that I may not need.  You might be concerned that a place with such great ideals wouldn't be able to follow through on also having top notch food, well don't be.  I find the best places to me are those that can balance itself between two things that I care very much about.  In this case, its a place where you know you are supporting one of the most important domestic causes, that of protecting less fortunate animals.  The other factor, and more importantly for a place that serves food, is that it is top quality and delicious food.  Many interesting combinations and they all seem to work.

This place isnt far from my house, but not close either, but every single time that my gf and I dont know where to go, its an unspoken assumption that it is going to be either Lost Dog or Stray Cat Cafe  (which is my favorite, my gfs is Lost Dog).

Try either the sandwiches or the pizzas, you can't lose!  And come back often.

The name fit me well, since I love dogs (especially chihuahuas) and I was lost here (lost in VA, lost in someone's piercing gaze/overwhelming presence).  I knew I would like this place just by the name, so you businessmen/women out there start really thinking seriously about what you want to name your future companies.

It's a local joint, just a few minutes walk away from where I was staying.  Pretty much a diner, with random blown up posters of dogs and next next door to a cat cafe (I don't like cats but I bet if one person's gone to one cafe, they'd go to the other).  The food's good and fresh, edible and satisfying.  Just the typical American dishes.  'Nuff said, really.

Nothing struck out to me that dramatically, but not every restaurant I go to really needs to.  If I lived nearby, this would be one of those joints I'd walk on over to all the time, placing my same order and reading a silly teenage type book like Twilight (with the cover off, so no one could tell what I was really reading).  You know what I'm talking about...I see you readers do this on planes and other restaurants all the time as I attempt to peek and see if you're reading the same book I am (which has happened once already).  Ain't no shame in it.

There are already a million reviews so I'll just say this - I LOVE THIS PLACE.

The spinach & artichoke dip is to die, the pizzas and sandwiches (in their dizzying variety) are great, they have Dogfish Head beers (and again, a huge selection in general), and I've heard great things about their desserts even though I've always been too full to try one.  Plus, what's not to love about a local, family-owned restaurant with a heart?!

Looking forward to bringing my baby sister, the frustrated dog-lover, here for lunch this weekend!

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER.

Did that get your attention?

Well the Lost Dog Cafe seems like a haven for beer drinkers - as the entire bar wall is lined with bottles from all over the place - so much so that it almost persuaded me, an adamant non-beer drinker - to try one.

but it was a Tuesday night and I am lame. so I didn't.

However, I did try some truly yummerific pizza - with oodles of choice for toppings. We went with half pepperoni and half chicken with mushrooms and black olives sprinkled all over. They were served up on a super thin crust, which still managed to not be all that crispy - which, personally, I enjoy. And it was rounded out with a full, fat round hunk of chewy delicious crust around the edges. Crispy on the outside, chewy in the middle. Mmmmmm. Generous portions of toppings were also a plus, especially today when restaurants are cutting corners everywhere.

There was a 20 minute wait for a table (8ish on a weeknight) but they let us sit at the bar and wait -but the comfy atmosphere made the wait fly by and the bartender didn't hound us to get drinks. This is the type of place where you instantly feel like a regular when you walk in, and I plan on making that a reality.

A dizzying selection of pizza and sandwiches - perfect for the college set or easy-breezy after work meal.

GO!

Great sandwiches!  and so so so so so many varieties.  I went for an Italian - reminiscent of the Italian heroes I grew up with in Jersey.  Salami, provolone, awesome.  I was a very happy camper.

I haven't tried the pizza so I will have to go back and try that.  Went for lunch on a Saturday and had to wait awhile for a table (about 20 - 25 minutes).  I'd hit it up again if I was in the area.
