This is a course to play. Amazing character on the layout and some great ideas of hole design. Starts out easy then gets brutal fast, with at least a 225+ yard carry off the tee box on the 3rd hole. Lots of forced carrys here. Fairways can be from tight to very wide. Course itself is in great condition, although bunkers were a bit hard packed in places and tee boxes could use a haircut. I would definately play here again, and actually played it twice in the same day. Very fun.
Shadow Course:
Great golf course here. It's in awesome condition in fairway and green. Bunkers could use a little work and the tee boxes were a bit soft and grass could use a trim, but still in great shape. Course itself is fun and decently challenging. A good mix of doglegs, uphills, and forced carrys to make it interesting. Great finishing hole here as well. Not as amazing a course as it's brother Sky, but still nothing to scoff at. Cart girls are stationary at 2 holes, as they are not allowed to drive because one crashed before. But the cart girls are just as amazing as the course.

The description of this golf course is in its name -- Lost Canyons.
Lost meaning lost balls.
Canyons meaning high winds.
I lost two sleeves of balls in the front 9 thanks to the wind and all the hazards ( my game, uh, had nothing to do with it, I swear).
Beers at the cart location/stand are a reasonable price ($3.50 domestic, $4.50 import), and the stand is positioned just at the right place to help you ease your frustration.
Nice clubhouse. Lockers and showers for the men, just lockers for the women.
It's a tough course (Shadow), but it's well maintained and those dang canyons sure do make it purty.

Played the Sky course on a weekday 10:00 am tee time. On this day the couse was very difficult because of the winds. I would suggest playing from the shorter t boxes unless you can consistently break 90.
Don't let your ego get the best of you. From the gold T's- On some holes you need to hit a solid 220 to get on the fairway 250 if it is windy. Unfortunatelly the staff- Including the golf shop-the starter- the food server- seemed to be miserable with their lives. No one was friendly or helpfull. NO one gave a s.... that we were there. What a shame?.
They gave us a bag of 40 balls to share for 4 people to hit before teeing off. No water anywhere in site. No drinking fountains- No stations- No cart service.. Are you serious????
I hope the owners are reading this and really consider getting some good people. I loved the course and would love to play there again. For gods sake please change the entire staff and get some service......
I would never go back with the lousy or should I say lack of service they provided.

If you plan to have your event at this place, you need to think again. Rude staff, especially the event coordinator. Unorganized, SLOW for dinner.
On the other hand...The golf course looked great!
The designer Pete Dye is always changing the way course design goes. This is a brutally tough course. Shadow (the one I played) is supposed to be the lesser known one of the two. It was pretty darn fun even though the greens had recently been punched. If your spraying the ball around off the tee it's not going to be a good day. Finished pretty decent with 5 pars in a row, and and also picked up a few skins off my playing partners. Nice clubhouse with some very polite staff. Overall a nice facility and restaurant and I definitely want to try the Sky course next time I'm in the area.

Hope you can put. It's a very difficult course. Well maintained and very picturesque you can have a great round tee to green but if the flat stick ain't working expect some 4 and 5 putts. Fred Couples shot a 78 the first time he played it. Good luck!

Bummer for a Mothers Day brunch event. Overpriced - Understaffed.
Unfortunately the promotion for this event was very decieving - the menu alone is what made us choose this for my BIG DAY as mom! (of older children)
I sent this to their general in-box so I'm guessing I won't hear back.
I wanted you to get some constructive criticism/feedback on the mother's day event that my husband, daughter and son took me to there.
I won't be back unfortunately because the amount we paid was far above the food and service. Here is why:
I guess you were understaffed. We had our reservation and were seated 20 minutes late. The food was "ok" really, flies were landing all over and hot things were cooling and cold stuff warm, there were no place settings on our table, we had to wait 15 minutes for water then 10 more minutes for coffee which went cold and no one came around to get us freshened up for almost 20 more minutes.
Our reservation was at 11am, we were 5 minutes early to comply with the rules you set about being there on time.
So, I had 4 people there.
We were seated in a tent outside with SCREAMING KIDS and it was not good for being sound proofed and it ricocheted making it even louder than it was. Also kids running around all over the place. It was a zoo. The girl that brought us to our table moved VERY SLOW for some reason. The table was for a party of 6 so all 4 of us were super far apart making it necessary to yell in order to hear each other.
Before deciding to join your event I called and was put on hold for about 3 minutes so the person could answer my simple questions.
I was required to give a credit card.
When we got there I saw my name and all of my credit card information left at the Hostess podium for anyone else to see, take (it wasn't being held onto or anything). My husband mentioned this politely to the Hostess but she just stared at him as though he was speaking German...no comprehension...so we repeated it. Then it sort of "clicked" so she carried the paper with her.
I'm very unhappy about the expense of $135.00. It was just not worth it for myself and my family.
Hopefully you can make some changes to improve it. My suggestions:
1) You have the information about the event readily available for ANYONE that answers your main number
2) Never put credit card information on a sheet of paper that s accessible to ANYONE
3) If someone makes reservations, ask whether or not the party will include children..put the children groups in one area.
4) Have more help on hire - especially since I saw you were busy every minute and could afford it with what we were being charged.
5) Have the tables ready for the people BEFORE they sit down, including the chairs being wiped down.
I hope they get this figured out - the location is BEAUTIFUL!!

played Shadow course 3/21-greens were just punched but what concerned me was the overall condition of the course-the fairways and tee boxes looked like they hadn't been cut in a week and other basic maintenance items have been let go...dandelions were growing in the middle of the fairways!
I hope this was just because they just punched the greens, but if this is regular practice I have to question whether or not the courses are making it financially...
I came to this course expecting big things - and it delivered. It's not too far of a drive from the heart of LA (about 1/2 hour with no traffic), completely idyllic setting, and great staff to boot (thanks to the bartender who left us water bottles after she closed the place :) )
I played the Sky course, but will certainly return for the Shadow. This course is very tough for most players, even if you're not playing the tips. The elevation changes are very fun, you're not going to find that anywhere else in or around LA for the most part.
Best part is - if it's brutally hot everywhere else in LA (i.e. today, it was 100+ when we arrived at 1:30) - it's not THAT hot at this course. Being nestled in the mountains, you get a very nice breeze from the setting.
Overall: difficult course, great surroundings, feels like it's your own course when it's hot, staff is great - you pay for what you get, and you get a lot (green fees are high, $75 for twilight - but I'm not complaining). I will be back very soon - can't believe more people don't know about this place.
36 holes of brutal canyon golf in picturesque Simi Valley.
Shadow is the tougher of the two courses. Sky was much easier to play after a round on the Shadow. Well maintained course. Not a lot of room to miss even hitting the rough. Not a course I would recommend for a novice. Bring lots of balls.
Great clubhouse, great practice facility.
Green fees at this place have come down in the last few years. Get on their mailing list to get the best deals.

Nestled up in the hills in Simi Valley, Lost Canyons provides 2 courses designed by famed golf architect Pete Dye with consultation from PGA Tour star Fred Couples. Both courses, the Sky and the Shadow, both provide a great challenge for golfers of all skills.
I've got to say that this golf club, or rather the Sky course should stage some sort of Tour event. Whether it's for the PGA, Nationwide or LPGA tours, Lost Canyons is in a picturesque area of the southland and the courses are really up to par with TPC courses like the nearby TPC Valencia.
Since you're in Lost Canyons, you have to deal with a lot of elevation changes. With that said, you should be able to hit the driver as hard as you can. But, this course really puts pressure on your irons. You should gauge your distances, trajectory and spin. Because it's not getting onto the green that's difficult, it's hitting to a certain part of the green which is more important. Pete Dye designed greens have so many undulations and tiers. Seriously, you have to take a yardage book with you so you would know the variances in the humps and speeds of the greens.
There's not much more to say about the courses. I think they are possibly two of the best in the Southland. But the clubhouse at Lost Canyons is beautiful. They have great practice facilities like the huge range, short game area and putting greens. They have PGA professionals on staff there. And there are clinics with fames coaches like Dave Pelz (Mickelson's coach) and Eddie Merrins (former UCLA head coach).
Of the two, I like the Shadow course more, especially the Par 5 18th where the drive is difficult but the approach is downhill, downwind. 200 yards with an 8 iron for me tells you how much fun the approach shot here is....Wind is a factor on the Shadow course...is it me or does the front nine make your look like a beginner but the back nine is quite easy? Any other golfers have this happen...I went 6 over for the first nine then1 under for the back nine. This always happens to me here.

2 fun, challenging golf courses... in Simi?
Pete Dye did a great job of integrating the Sky and Shadow courses in the natural terrain near Tapo Canyon. Both courses sit at the bottom of the White Face Mountain. A very peaceful experience awaits you. You might even catch a hawk, eagle or coyote. Price is over $100 on weekends though, so bring plenty of money. Both courses are hard, especially from the tips (experienced players only).
I would also suggest practicing there or even stopping by for lunch.

aka 'lost balls' among those that have played the shadow course regularly. the sky course is a bit easier though by no means a cake walk.
the dye/couples-designed courses offer spectacular views and very challenging layouts. the sky course is one of the toughest in the nation, i believe.
lost canyons was designed for the avid golfer with deep pockets.
