Los Verdes Golf Course

26 reviews for Los Verdes Golf Course
3 Stars because it's hard to get a good tee time, but it's kind of expected. I am on the fence if that should affect the rating..
Beautiful course, scenic, good grass, maintained greens. Some fun holes and a great price. Some tips, wave people on par 3's, be aware of the ocean break (90% of the greens will break towards the ocean even though it seems uphill), put aside 6.5 hours to finish a full 18, bring a jacket if you start past 4pm.
Pros:
fun course, and well maintained
cons:
long wait time
I was very fortunate to be playing golf, for the first time at this place; it is a beautiful golf course. I love the view throughout the whole 18 holes...ocean view...wonderful weather.
We encountered some fiesty squirrels who would steal food from the golf cart.
Although the course is beautiful...the driving range is not so pretty.

Good for a daytime wedding because you can see the golf course and ultimately the ocean. But if you're expecting bluffs, you won't get it from here. Structure itself also shows its age...60's!

I'd give it one star for playing over SIX hours long but the views are so good you have to give it an extra star. SIX HOURS? come on! Driving range is good for kids. Course not so.
This is a very beautiful course! A lot of different challenges, and one of the best scenery's around. Course can be very tough especially the back nine. Now you do have to deal with the slow pace, place tends to get over booked. I would have rated this place 5-stars, but their driving range is an embarrassment! They need to upgrade that eye sore.

had the privilege to play here a few weeks ago and let me say, the best american golf golf course I have played so far. Some of the fairways were still under repair, but the layout of the course and AMAZING view make up for it all.
There is nothing that can top playing the back 9 holes as the sun is setting, unless you carry a bottle of wine, some cheese and have a date carrying your golf bag, in Palos Verdes.
Los Verdes is an absolute gem.

More like 3.5 stars, but not bad at all. Really, it's the spectacular ocean view coupled with the extremely affordable green fee that gives this course four stars.
The course is not too difficult. If anything, it's the greens that will keep your score a bit high. Otherwise, this course is very playable for the semi-beginner. The fairways are not too narrow, and there aren't too many trees to raise your blood pressure if you happen to have that "natural hook" or "natural slice." If your ball lands in the sand, don't get too stressed out - all the ones I landed in allowed for a "shootable" lie.
I hear that a major downside to this course is that it's almost impossible to book a good tee time without super advance reservations. My dad dealt with all of that, so I don't have any tips for that issue. If you can get over that, though, I would highly recommend this course. It might be the perfect course to take an out-of-town visitor, to show him all of So. Cal's Pac. Ocean glory without having to break the bank.
Ps, If you do play here, remember to check out the view from the 15th hole, their (understandably) impressive signature hole.
Pps, My tee time was at 7:03 on a Thursday morning, so the course wasn't so backed up. In fact, we managed to play in four hours' time. I don't know if we got lucky, but the pace of play was really perfect.

Outside of shooting a shit score since I suck at golf, there's nothing to complain about Los Verdes.
The 18 hole golf course is definitely not an easy one to play at, but the scenery here is beautiful. Especially Hole 15 where it's practically next to the Pacific Ocean! Los Verdes doesn't feel like a Public Course and we sure didn't pay a lot to play here. We played the weekday twilight prices ($16.25 WTF?? That's it?) and it's definitely a great value for an 18 hole course. If you want to rent the cart, it's $30 and the push cart is $4. I toughed it out and walked the whole way, but it probably didn't help me with my game.
The driving range is adequate, but Dominguez is definitely a lot better. My suggestion is to play 18 hole here or at Victoria and go to the range @ Dominguez.

Great course for a muni. Only bad side is that it is very slow, and you see a bunch of angry old asians on the putting greens yelling at each other. Guess a lot of money is on the line.
Views are amazing. Can see Catalina Island in the distance and ocean on most holes. Prices are reasonable for the course and location. About $40 to ride on the weekend.
It will take about 5 hours or more to finish, but you get plenty of time to soak in the scenery.
Los Verdes Golf Course looks great as a golf course, but this is certainly not one the best country club to have a wedding. The couple tied the knot at the popular Wayfarer Crystal chapel and had an outdoor reception here at Los Verdes. In my opinion, this outdoor area wasn't designed for an event or a wedding. To me, it was just a corner around the buildings. I saw another wedding on that day, and it was held in the meeting room(or the people at Los Verdes wants to call it a "Banquet Hall"). The landscape is beautiful, however the B&G cannot take advantage of this. Los Verdes doesn't allow B&G to step onto the green to have portrait sessions. You just need to view what Los Verdes can offer best, just don't take picture in it.

FIrst disclaimer: I've only played this place in a company sponsored tournament (shotgun format) So, I've never tried to get on during the week or weekend. But from what I've heard, it's incredibly, no, heinously slow (Ocean View golf course at county golf course prices).
So, thus, the 4 star rating. 5 stars for the view, 5 stars for the price, 1 star for the pace. Go here on a sunny day, and you'll fall in love with Palos Verdes and realize why all the homes in this area here cost a zillion dollars. The air is invigorating and the views of the real estate and the ocean are truly magnificent.
The layout of this course is incredible! The whole thing is basically on hill and everything slopes down towards the ocean. Don't forget that when you're putting!!! Hands down beat the layout of any course in Long Beach. Lots of elevation change and sidehill lies--very challenging.
Since I get impatient from playing a round that takes longer than 4 hours, I don't opt to play here.
Suggestion to tee-off very early during the week. Probably the best shot of playing a sub-5 hour round. Be advised though, the older population who make up a fairly large percentage of locals in PV get up very early and tee it up very early. As stated previously, if you don't mind playing an incredibly slow round, go here.
what a joke, 6 hours to play 18 holes of golf. Beautiful course, too many people. Honestly, I'd rather play Wilson.....
3 stars, all for the views, otherwise, it's a one for the waiting, the service and the county for doing such a shitty job managing what should be LA's answer to Torrey Pines...

The best muni course in the South Bay/Long Beach area. I would give it extra stars but like everyone who has reviewed this golf course...this course just eats up your time. No matter what time you plan on playing this course, you are going to wait. Once you check in...it's usually an hour long wait until you tee off. Luckily there's a practice green and a range there. Bucket prices are $6, $10 and $20.
And once you start playing, the rounds are long and you end up playing in fivesomes. That is never fun. Even if I was playing in a group with myself and four Playboy Bunnies, i would get sick of them after 7 holes. But the views from Los Verdes is beautiful...the ocean breezes and overall fun nature of the course makes up the long rounds.
The course itself has a lot of elevation changes. Example the Par 5 first hole. With a downhill tee shot which you really need to draw a five wood, then hammer the same club to an uphill approach. Easy eagle? Sure. Then the best hole is the downhill drivable Par 4 tenth. Too bad that is is the only drivable Par 4. But this hole is fun, while most of the Par 4's at Los Verdes are actually quite difficult. Overall, if you have some game, the Los Verdes will be fun. But if you're a 25 handicap or above, expect to have a long day.
Overall, this muni course lacks the grimyness and the ghetto feel of most munis. Make sure to call to see if there are no tournaments, because it's quite a drive going up Hawthorne into the course. Rounds will cost between $45-$15. That's with or without a cart. So give the course a try, it's one of the best in Los Angeles.

So when you live in Orange County and your regular golf buddies who used to live close by now live in Long Beach and Santa Monica, Los Verdes is a great place to meet up and swing the sticks.
The views are great. The course is forgiving. And the green fees are very attractive.
Just don't plan on playing a round in 4 hours. No way. Not happening. It is usually a 5+ hour transaction. Just have fun.
One thing to know is that they only take tee time reservations one week in advance. What some regulars do is spend the night in the parking lot or get to the course before the sun comes up, to make a tee time for the next week. It's either that or try to get through on the phone, which rings constantly. Thanks Pete for getting up early and taking care of this once a month for us. Remind me to buy you a bag of butter toffee peanuts the next time we play.
Last Friday afternoon I managed to get in 9 holes before the June gloom blanketed the course. Los Verdes is a tricky course due to the fact that quite a few of the fairways slope down toward the ocean. This meant a lot of sidehill lies, which I'm not the best at. The fairways were in decent shape and greens were a helluva lot slower than the practice greens!
At 2.5 hours (starting at 5:20pm), the pace was decent for a fivesome. $15.50 was the twilight rate really is a fair price. Too bad I couldn't get on earlier.
There also is a two-tiered driving range there. Cost I paid for 125 balls is $10, so about average. The range also takes some getting used to cuz its sloped from right to left.

I have been lucky enough to play with guys that get really early tee times. But have to say even without anyone in front of you, this course is usually 5+ hours to play. Could be that they put out 5 people at a time.
The views are spectacular, the conditions are OK (a lot of players out there).
But for $42 with a cart ... hard to beat.
The only good thing is the scenery... in a few holes.
The bad things: playtime (ave. 6 hours), maintanance, hard to get tee time among others.
Although I live in the vicinity, I never play here.
omg, los verdes has got to be the most gorgeous county owned course i have ever played on in LA.....period! when playing, i feel as though i am playing on a windswept course in pebble beach....well...maybe not. lol.
los verdes is tucked into a quaint lil neighborhood in rancho palos verdes. the first time i played there, i got all ass backwards in the hills and arrived just in nick of time to tee off. subsequent trips out there provided me with better results. lol.
the course is truly a gem and you can see catalina from many of the holes on a clear day. why pay $375pp to play a round down the street at trump national golf course when you can pay around $40 at los verdes? sure, you don't have peons wiping down your clubs every other hole, but seriously, i could pay a homeless person $20 and buy him lunch and have the same service at los verdes.
***i do not condone picking up a homeless guy off the street to become a caddie ala happy gilmore style***
the course is a tad tougher than other county courses as it was carved out of the side of a hill. you really have to watch your shot placement here! the fairways and greens are also in pretty darn good shape considering how trafficked the course is.
i really really like this course.....BUT!!!
los verdes plays HELLA SLOW!! i have never finished a round in under 6hrs. wtf?

This is an abomination of how a golf course should be ran. Yes, the views are amazing. The price is ultra cheap. Yes, the course is in decent shape considering that it must get a hundred thousand rounds or so a year. They put out a group every five minutes, fivesomes abound, and the rangers are ineffective if not totally non existent. It took 2 hours to play 4 holes. Are you kidding me!? Bring a book, you will have time to read War & Peace.
This is a very beautiful course with a wonderful view of the ocean. But I give it 2 stars because of the terrible experience we had there. We had visitors from out of town that wanted to golf so we made reservations for a tee time 4 days in advance. When we got there they did NOT have us on the reservations list, someone messed up and we ended up waiting for an hour to tee off. The employees at the counter were rude, sarcastic, and unprofessional. I don't think talking shit about other employees who are right in front of you is professional at all. And I don't think talking sarcastically to customers who don't speak English well is nice either. Then when it was finally our turn, there were no golf carts available. The guy told us to start without it and come back later when more carts would be available. Um..okay? We were happy to find that a cart was indeed availale to us. But they gave us a golf cart that barely had enough power in it to make it to hole 3. Before starting the 4th hole I came back to trade carts. I was so worried I wouldn't make it back and at one point my guest had to push the cart for me. I had to apologize a hundred times over to my guests for all the inconveniences at this place. By the way, we weren't the only ones who had a terrible experience that day. Apparently everyone else in line in before and after us were having trouble with the staff. Terrible service.
Golf with spectacular views of the Pacific for how much??? Well there is a catch, you'll have helluvalot of time to enjoy those views as you wait, and wait, and wait.... One round we humming along pretty good until we hit hole #12. Around the corner and BOOM, the 405 of cartpaths, gridlock, no exaggeration there were 12 carts parked, players fading in and out of coma. I have never seen a course this backed up. We went back to the clubhouse ate lunch and returned and still two groups ahead of us. So be warned, bring a book, crochet, whatever. I will never understand it. Just hit it, this ain't the Masters!!! The course was in average shape the last time I was there but they're ripping up a lot of ground around the first three holes. Still 4 stars for the value.

well the view alone gets it a 4 star rating with $30 green fees. Cheap- but the golf cart paths are worn out- the fairways are in bad shape. The public golf course is no frills but this place always takes focus away from the game with breathtaking views of catalina and the pacific.

This is my favorite public course in LA. It has great views of the PV bluffs and the Pacific Ocean but like other reviewers plan on spending the whole day here because it will take that long to finish 18 holes. The driving range is a double decker and the putting green allows for chips and pitches. The staff is also pretty cool. Sometimes they even run specials like a free sleeve of balls with your $42 green fees (includes cart).

This place for a public course is awesome. Its right by the beachside cliffs with an outrageous view of the ocean. Even if you dont play golf, its a wonderful sight. Luckily for me, I have a connection here that lets me play when ever time permits. Otherwise, expect long waiting times and weekends are rediculous. There are many tournaments here for obvious reasons but the course is very challenging and they do pack in the players so be patient on the wait times between holes. Just keep in mind that you are playing on a public course and not a private course where you are paying top dollar for a course as beautiful as this one. Once you play this course, you can offset the wait times, pace, fee and realize that you just played on a beautiful course. And, as the saying goes, "its better than any bad day at the office"

the course itself is pretty sweet... nice views of the ocean, greens were in good shape, and being built into a hillside adds a few challenges. it's also priced reasonably, so i like this place except that they overcrowd it like crazy. it's takes daaaays to play a round... so in my mind, it's just not worth it.
There are some spectacular views on this course and the price is fantastic. However, like the other reviews said, this may be the longest round of golf you ever play. A round can easily run 6+ hours.... I've never played a course where they allow groups of 6!?!? WTF... It's a shame because the course itself can be so picturesque. Layout is ok, not too challenging. The water pull messes me up everytime. So hard to get tee times unless it's during the weekdays. Go here if you have a lot of time and just want to enjoy the scenery.
