i was really excited when i started working in the area since i love LOVE mexican food. however, i've been disappointed at the restaurants nearby in terms of flavor and quality.... until i found los jarritos! they recently remodeled so it looks a lot more open, clean, and welcoming. inside there's plenty of seating and every time i walk by there are always a few spanish speakers sitting leisurely at the tables next to the register. there are fountain sodas but a few bottled choices as well (including coke in the glass bottles) and a jukebox that i believe is filled with mostly mariachi music.

checked it out today and ordered the chicken / beans / rice burrito. at less than 5 bucks, a good deal for lunch. the chicken is boiled... not my favorite way but it was still pretty flavorful and moist. beans delicious, rice decent, and the tortilla, YUM. the tortilla is fresh with that chewy almost flaky consistency that only lard can offer. granted, the portions are just enough to fill me up for lunch (not overwhelming huge like other places in the area) and unfortunately doesn't come with chips. also heard good things about their tostadas.

With this place my Pomona Taco Tour is running out of steam....this will be one of the last ones...

Anyways this place looks like a small run down house.

There wasn't anyone else besides the family inside and they didn't seem to give a shit at all about business.

A taco cost almost two dollars but I got one anyways.

They were going to put lettuce on it and  I had to ask for onions.

The meat had a decent flavor but was a little tough and chewy.

    Would not come back

I've always noticed Los Jarritos across the street from the Western University of Health Sciences parking structure. I figure a place THAT close to campus would  have lots of reviews from hungry and potentially lazy students.

The sweet purple/pink paint job probably draws a lot of attention while driving by. This place is almost built like a house, you walk in and there is a seating area, and walking further into the restaurant takes you to the main section where the cash register, kitchen, and more tables and  a flat screen television are. It has lots of windows so it's bright and it felt pretty well ventilated.

We were seated and given menus. They have all kinds of reasonably priced Mexican foods: burritos, dinner plates, tortas, tacos, enchiladas, seafood, even hamburgers and hot dogs. So there's something for everyone and any one who remotely likes anything Mexican.

I ordered the Burrito Combination which had beans, rice, and I believe sour cream inside. I got it with shredded pork. They put lettuce and guacamole on the side which was cool and refreshing. While we waited for our food, we snacked on the free chips and salsa. The chips are fresh but on the super crispy side, so watch your gums. The salsa was a rich red with the perfect level of spiciness and hint of sweetness. There wasn't any chunks of tomatoes present which I personally like in salsa.

The food came out pretty quick. I would have liked to pick up my burrito and eat it with my hands, but after cutting off the end and doing that, I was fearful it'd fall apart in my hands and get all wet, so I finished the meal with a fork and knife. The burrito wasn't soggy, the meat was juicy, had a bit of chewiness, was a little fatty, and for some reason, the pork reminded me of meat I've had in some Vietnamese dishes, which was... weird. The beans weren't overwhelming and the burrito was definitely complimented well by the salsa used for the chips. If there was sour cream, I wish there was more to contrast the SLIGHT saltiness of the juices. The lettuce and guacamole helped. My buddy across the table said out loud "Man, this burrito is great!" he ordered the Burrito Supreme. Not too sure what was in it, but he got it with shredded beef and it looked creamery than mine.

A satisfying experience overall! I would definitely come here again to try different things on their menu, especially since they're so close to campus.

    It's still awesome.

But points of concern include the guacamole (flavorless, pretty much), and the huevos rancheros.  Tortillas are served on the side; two nicely cooked eggs topped with chile verde, including a big hunk of tender pork.  So those things aren't technically bad, but from what I've experienced, not technically "huevos rancheros." Maybe I'm wrong.  But I'll still take that fried tortilla 'neath those eggs, thanks much.

Also, I've decided to avoid the tortas after two underwhelming experiences.  Don't dig the roll they use at all.

But please, let this information only make you a more informed consumer; don't let it keep you away from some tasty biz.

Inflated prices, bland food, moderate portion sizes. Suffice it to say I know what a gem some hole-in-the-wall restaurants can be and I was looking forward to some good authentic Mexican food today--while it may have been authentic, the food was far from good. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere if flavor or quality is at all a concern.
