This place should win an award for VALUE.  Seriously, they serve huge portions at awesome prices.  That wouldn't mean much if the food weren't tasty, but it's consistently pretty good.  Love the fresh red salsa.  The roasted/smoky one is pretty good too, and I'm not usually a fan of the roasted salsa taste.  The green salsa is different and delicious, but their traditional red is my first love.

I've had burritos and chimichangas, and next I'm definitely going to try the tortilla soup and something a little more traditional... a seafood dish, probably.. they also have mole that I'd like to try.  I'll write an update once I give a few things on their menu a try.

Service is good and the people are nice, even in spite of language barriers.  :) And they have huge water glasses!  I'm a real fan of huge water glasses at a Mexican restaurant.

We stopped here for the first time, wanting fish tacos. The original plan was Quality Seafood, but this was closer and laziness won out.

The service was fine; they had an entire 'seafood menu' but no fish tacos. They have fish and tacos, but no fish tacos. Hmm. So I ordered the shrimp quesadillas. Gross. The tortilla wasn't cooked at all, cheap cheese, and what tasted like/appeared to be frozen microwaved salad shrimp. My pal's ranchero sauced fish filet was non-spectacular. We were already kicking ourselves when the 5000 decibel mariachi singing along to tejano cds set up. Serious, we were 10 inches apart and had to shout at each other.

So, after paying the bill, (pretty cheap, but that's likely because everything was putrid and unpleasant) we ran out of there whilst "OOOMMMPA OOOMMPA OOOMMMPA pit-CHU! Pit-CHU!" blasted the backs of our heads. I am full of regret.

I love this place!!!!  I don't know much about tex-mex food, but what they serve here is really good!  I haven't find any other restaurant who can serve good chicken fajitas.

Sometimes their staff forget about checking on you if you need anything, but it is still a good place for a good (cheap) meal.

I have a head cold or major allergies and am in desperate need of a very spicy soup loaded with garlic to open up my sinuses. I am not up for shopping for all the raw fix ins and cooking.  So, I am sitting here day dreaming about my second favorite Chicken Tortilla Soup outside my kitchen and Taqueria Los Jaliscienses wins hands down.  I sooo wish they delivered.

If I were feeling better I would get in the car and drive here as fast as I could.

It was originally a Chinese restaurant which explains the Lotus Flower shaped building - my friends and I refer to it as the  "funny shaped taqueria" when we can't remember the name.  The first time I ate Mex food in this location it was El Rancho Grande and it did not taste as good  as the current incarnation..

The Mexican Seafood here is very good. I also recommend the Tostada De Fajhita.  And I must add the Super Burrito can feed 2 teenage boys or a family of 4...

I have eaten here about 15 times  and the food is consistently good...

Someone please bring me some Spicy Garlic Chicken Tortilla Soup so I can breathe........

With Austin Mexican and Tex-Mex joints, the question is:  how is it any better or worse than 100 similar restaurants in town?

Ways Los Jaliscienses is better than average:

-Better carne molida in the enchiladas
-Better seasoning/preparation for Spanish rice
-Pretty good salsas, with a neat chile verde in particular
-Really interesting 1950s-esque architecture
-Decently clean/tidy for a dive.  Still not fancy, but nice vinyl tile floor, fresh paint, well run.

So nothing too amazing, but decent TexMex with good salsa, worth a visit from the local area.

I've been here a three times now and the food is not bringing me back... is the freaking awesome salsas and chips they have. They give you three kinds of salsas and all of them are good, based on food alone I would give it 2 stars.  Today I had the menudo and it was very, very good, last two times I had some of the lunch dishes and they were nor good or bad, just OK.
The parking is limited and the place is small,  in  but again the Chips and Salsa are worth it.

Holy. Crap. This place rocks.

A friend introduced me to the taco shell shaped mexican restaurant. I was massively skeptical - the place shares the parking lot with an econo lodge, it was understandeable.

We entered the restaurant and I wasn't even allowed to look at the menu - superburritos it was.

We ordered 2 superburritos - one for each of us - and the waitress looked at us as if we had just been strapped into electric chairs. It was a chilling experience.

Over the course of the next 10 or so minutes as our meal is being prepared, I try to shake off the creeping feeling of dread, this task being made more difficult by my accomplice, or perhaps, traitor's knowing grin.

They finally brought out the superburrito, and it could not be more aptly named. The thing was sliced in half and each half was a good 1.5 normal burritos. We each consumed (shockingly) our whole superburritos. Superburrito becomes a state of mind after you've consumed it. It fights back after you're done eating and somehow this enriches the experience.

All for like...seven bucks, how do you beat that.

May I have your attention please?  Can you say "Mexican breakfast for $2.50"?

Can you say, "GOOD Mexcian breakfast for $2.50"?

Migas, huevos mexicanas, etc.  along with grilled potatoes, refried beans that rival Las Manitas', bacon or ham, and tortillas.  For $2.50 if you get there before 11 am.

I almost hate to share this secret.  But damn.  It's good.  Get your lazy butts out of bed and eat a Mexican breakfast for $2.50 once in a while.  You'll be glad you did.

Please note that much of the staff does not speak a lot of English, as the clientele is heavily Latino.  If you try out your Spanish on them, or are polite enough to ask what the proper term is, they will treat you well.  Show respect and ye shall be rewarded.

(In general, when visiting any genuinely ethnic restaurant, it's wise to keep in mind that they, not you, are the boss, and that they will be serving you a meal, so it's in your best interest to be polite and to communicate in a language they understand to the best of your ability.)

North Austin is turning into a haven of good, inexpensive ethnic food.  I hate to share my secrets, but for you guys, I'll give it up.  :)

The constant presence of low riding cars and pickup trucks adorned with airbrushed roman lettering and the occasional Vigin de Gudalupe in the parking lot of this otherwise generic looking taqueria compelled me to finally stop in a give it a try. Walking in and being the only gringa in the whole place only reaffirmed my suspicions--I'd found a taco gold mine.

First the server (in this case a cute little Mexican lady who only speaks Spanish) brings 3 little dishes of different salsas and a heaping basket of warm tortilla chips. I ordered 2 tacos Al pastor and one with breaded steak. The Al pastor are the best I've had in Austin--or anywhere for that matter. The corn tortillas are fresh and soft and loaded to the gills with tender, saucy pork mixed with sauteed onions. The breaded steak was delicious as well, but paled in comparison to its kingly Al pastor brothers. I washed the tacos down with a tall glass of cold horchata, also some of the best I've had. And the final bill? $5!!!

My office is litterally step away from this place, definately big points from me with the convenience factor.  Aside from that, the food is awesome and a great value.  They have a daily special that is a great size portion and only $5.49.  A full size plate of great enchiladas for less than going to a fast food burger joint?  No brainer.  The breakfast tacos are also a heck of a bargain at $2.69 for 3, cheapest you'll find anywhere for good breakfast!  Everything is great, service is great, highly recommended

i was all like, "how big is the super burrito?" and they were all like, "?Que?" and i was all like, "?el super burrito es grande?" and my authentic mexican waitress made the shape of an oval with her hands, and that oval was about as big as my head and i said, "esta bien," wondering how big a six and a half dollar burrito could actually be.

while waiting for my super burrito i noshed on my standard chips and my three exceptional salsas (that green one is pretty hot), getting weird looks from some of the authentic mexican patrons, and listened to the tejano blaring from the jukebox that the authentic mexican patrons were so kind as to put on for the rest of us.

the super burrito that came out was indeed the size of my head...easily two meals, but really three or four.  once i ate one in a single sitting and wished i was dead.  quite possibly the best deal in austin.

and the restaurant is located in a motel parking lot next to a pool.
