We recently switched to Dr Serena Tan, having taken our baby to a different pediatrician for her first year. The previous doctor was just fine - he did absolutely nothing wrong, but I just didn't get a good sense of engagement from him. Like, he was "ticking the boxes" at each visit but not really going any further than that.
I chewed over it for several weeks, and was about to switch to a new practice, on the recommendation of friends. However, one day when my daughter was sick, her own doctor was not available so we saw Dr Tan instead, within the same practice (Los Gatos Pediatrics).
Dr Tan is WONDERFUL. She is so interactive, loving and engaging with the baby. Isabella loves her! And she talks me through everything, explaining each issue and each step as we go along. She even drew a litle diagram on a paper towel! The next day, after that first visit, she personally called me to see how the baby was doing.
So, I decided to stay with the practice but switch to Dr Tan. I am so happy with this outcome. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
We went to this office with our 1 year old because of all the rave reviews. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. First of all, the waiting room smelled.
We arrived early for our appointment. After paperwork was completed and co-pay was paid, we were let into one of the offices. The room was FILTHY. I could not put my son down because I was afraid he'd get sick by just touching the two old and dirty toys that were there. The carpet was so filthy, I can not believe they let it go for so long!
The nurse came in and told me to undress my son. She never introduced herself. She did what she needed to do, then left us to wait for the doctor. After 45 minutes my baby started to get annoyed. My husband left the room (for the second time) to find out why we were still waiting. The nurse who just saw us said "you are asking the wrong person"..thanks a lot! I dressed my son, we got our co-pay back and left. As we were leaving, the doc saw us but never said a word. I got a phone call from the office manager a week later apologizing and saying she had no idea what happened. Needless to say, I would never bring my son back to this office. Dr. Pearlman maybe a great doctor but I guess we'll never find out. I'd consider going back if he gave me a call personally, but then again, I don't want to be coming into a dirty office again. There are a few VERY good docs in the are so we did find a wonderful pediatrician.
I started taking my daughter to Dr. Pearlman when she was about 8. We had just moved to the area and I really didn't know enough people to even get a recommendation so it was just luck that it turned out so well. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Pearlman, he listens to her, answers her questions, even jokes around with my daughter - which probably gives him a good guage on health (physically and mentally). When Jennifer has been sick, he has always called a few days later to see how she is doing and when he hasn't been able to cure her, he sends her to someone else that is. You don't always find that type of care when you're in a larger metro area. The office isn't decorated as well as some other doctor offices but that's not really why we come to the doctor. By the way, my daughter just turned 18.....
Dr. Pearlman is a WONDERFUL doctor. He was recommended to me by my OB/GYN - she takes her kids to him! He is very thorough, patient, kind and funny. As a first time parent he never made me feel like my questions and/or concerns were stupid.
We have moved. bought a house out of the area and I wish we could have taken him with us!
Dr. Pearlman came highly recommended by friends and has lived up to the hype :)
