Lately I've been giving a lot of thought to perfection. Not my own perfection, as that would give me an even bigger ego, but the perfection of relationships. It's not even "is he hot enough for me," but is his brain big enough for me, and does he have the emotional maturity (and immaturity) to handle me. The reason why this has come up recently is because a) I'm getting old, and b) I've met a few people in the past year who show me that yes, Pamela, there are men out there that can both challenge and excite me. I'm a witty bitch, and I need a witty bastard.
Recently I had the opportunity to have some deep discussions with someone who I think is a witty bastard. It could just be the beer talking, but I'm an optimistic cynic.
So how did this come about? It's another beautiful Sunday afternoon, and the promise of ales and tales beckoned. Not only was I anxious to sample the brews , but I was hungry as well. Despite what amounted to be a less than stellar average from my Yelp friends, I went into the situation with an open mind. It's something I try to do, even if it doesn't seem that way because I talk about myself too much.
Although I'm one who basically likes to eat meat at every meal that isn't breakfast, it is the autumn season, and so I chose the pumpkin ravioli with gorgonzola sauce. It was absolutely delicious, and a nice compliment to the stout I tried first, and the hefe was a good after dinner drink. I'm not going to get into what the witty bastard had to eat and drink, as I'd be curious to see how his description of the afternoon is.
The service was not as bad as I have read in others' reviews, although the location of the tables leads me to believe it would be tough to discuss innermost thoughts and feelings when it gets crowded, because the tables are tight and it can get loud in there. For a relatively empty Sunday afternoon, however, it was perfect.
So will I be back? Perhaps. I'm a big fan of delving deep into the psyche, and an even bigger fan of post-brewery activities. It may be a little sphinx like, but I'll let the witty bastard figure that one out.
I've been here a few times..But this time I really got to enjoy myself! We went there with no reservation and went to the bar for about 10 minutes...
Tried the cider, but opted for wine, and tried the Gatoberfest Ale...Yummy.
Pear and goat cheese salad ($8.50)
Bratwurst($16.00)
Chicken Fusilli($14.00)
Flat Iron Steak
Half Chicken
All were great and service was up to par. Enjoyable restaurant and they take Passport cards, (if you have one. This means that if you order one entree, the other one is FREE!)
A little pricey but I will definitely be back:)
Run of the Mill
I've been to this place a few times now and although it doesn't disappoint, it has never really impressed either. I can say though, I didn't order any of the meat dishes my last visit, and I still felt satisfied! My wife had their pumpkin ravioli (too sweet for a complete dish, but great to share) and I had the wild mushroom pizza. Both dishes complimented each other very well. Unfortunately neither of the beers (Oktoberfest and the Stout) did justice to the food.
Pluses (in order of importance):
Great quality food (did not skimp on mushrooms on pizza either)
Ambiance (bar and dining area is nicely separated)
Minuses (in order of importance):
Price ($60 for a personal pizza, a pasta dish, and 2 beers?!?)
Service (our waiter took a while to come, long enough for another waiter to acknowledge we were waiting too long)
Beer (neither beer was up to par with the food)
LGBC (as they call themselves) will be a rare visit for me. The food is worth the trip, but they could completely do without their own beers and be a 4 star joint.
This is the place to go for a good atmosphere! Very alive and warm feeling. Never empty and boring.
Good hearty food and their own brewed beer. What more could you ask for? Try it out..
Been coming here the last two decades, and it is a great place for dinner!
Try the Fusilli pasta made with cream and chicken, or the Pork Chop with sweet glazed plum chutney!
Great beer (I like the Octoberfest best when in season)!
Awesome atmosphere, and great appetizers.
Get the calamari, as you will love every bite.
Lunch portions are a little small, and have decreased over the years probably due to the poor economy.
Overall, this place is high on my list when I drive over the hill to LG for fun and embibement.
My husband and I came here for the first time a couple days ago. Seeing how I'm 7.5 months pregnant, I'm only able to comment on the service and food and not any alcohol.
We started off with an order of the calamari and it came with a green chili sauce on the side. I was a little skeptical about it but was pleasantly surprised on how well it complimented the calamari. It was a nice change to the usual cocktail sauce that's served with calamari.
They brought out bread and butter that was really good - the bread was warm and had the perfect texture and the butter was soft and not wrapped in foil.
The girl that took our order was nice and completely knowledgeable of their menu. I really liked how she started naming off some non alcoholic beverages to me without me having to ask.
My husband and I both ended up getting the BBQ Bacon Burger. I would suggest bringing an empty stomach if you plan on ordering this burger because it's huge! It has the patty, two onion rings, bacon, lettuce, tomato and some really good sauce on it. I have to admit that it was the best burger I've ever had!
I also got a side of garlic mashed potatoes but it wasn't really garlicy and the texture was a little off. By this time, I already was impressed so I can't say that I was too disappointed by the side.
I will definitely go back to try other things on the menu!
So I gave them the fifth star 'cause we were there at 11:33 (they opened at 11:30) and the butter they served with the bread was room temperature, not a hard little block that shoots off of the plate when you try to cut it. Yay for their attention to detail!
Had lunch here today for the second time, and was as happy with the experience as I had been the first time. $61 including tax and tip
$5 pequito peppers - this was an appetizer like I think appetizers should be- small portions, perfect tastes, good price : this had three halves of roasted red peppers stuffed with manchengo cheese, drizzled with pumpkin oil and roasted pumpkin seeds - great starter, so much better than the huge servings you normally see
Blackened catfish sandwich- on fresh toasted ciabatta, nicely complemented with greens, tomato and aioli
Hamburger- hubby said this was a great burger with blue cheese and fries
Service was friendly, fresh hot bread was served quickly and our server was nice and very attentive.
We also had three drinks: I had the pomegranate cider and my husband had two beers, which he said were very good (and he used to be a pro brewer so he's a tough customer).
$60 for lunch is steep, but if I had the money I'd go here every day.
Stop 6 on the Los Gatos Bar Crawl (#LosCrawl on Twitter)
This is where things started getting a little hazy and dizzy. We should have ordered food but we didn't. Bad call!
We had lost Michael L. so now it was just Michael C. and I to finish up the #LosCrawl. I ordered a hefeweizen (LGB brew) - it was quite good - fresh and refreshing!!!
This is a large, sprawling establishment. Tons of tables and even the bar area had a lot of seating for people who wanted to eat some food.
I wish we had ordered food - would have made the evening go better... but we didn't!!!
Great service - waitress was over to our table within two minutes of being seated, got our drink orders and we had our deinks rapidly thereafter. High marks for service.
I glanced at the food menu (oh, why didn't I order food?!!!!) - looke like some good choices - have to go back here and try it out properly.
Beer was really good - have to see if they seel bottled versions of their brew.
~ 3 stars overall, good experience, ambiance and service. I can see this becoming a 4 star review if the food meets expectations during my next visit.
# 134
Monday was my second time coming to the LG Brewing Company. Both times I shared the beer sampler and had the fusili pasta. I actually like 5 out of the 6 beers (which was shocking to both me and the bf) and the pasta is absolutely amazing- the cream sauce should be bottled and sold asap.
While looking over the menu the second time- everything just looked amazing- I can't wait to go back!!
Been to Los Gatos Brewing Co multiple times over the years.
My recent visit was a total dissapointment.
Service was unattentive and slow. Took a while to get our beers, and one of our beer mug came half full. We had to ask the waitress to top it off. Bad sign at a brewing company.
Dinner came and my pork chop that I have ordered many times before were totally over cooked, tough and dry, while the potatoes on the side were not fully cooked. Another red flag if a restaurant can't even cook simple meat and potatoes right.
No waitress to be found after they delivered our food. We had to flag them down to get our check after we had enough waiting around.
Overall just a bad experience. Glad there are tons of other restaurants in Los Gatos to eat at.
My fiancé and I were in the area the other night, and we wanted to grab dinner while in town. We remembered having fun at Los Gatos Brewing Company for a friend's birthday sometime last year, so we figured we'd try it again for dinner on our own.
There was no wait around 8:00 PM, so we sat down immediately. I ordered the mushroom burger cooked medium with a side of field greens instead of fries. I loved that they cooked the burger just right and remembered all of my unusual requests (no onions, substitute salad, dressing on the side). My fiancé ordered a beer and the ratatouille, which was flavorful. Loved the bread that came before the meal! Served warm, it was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
Overall, we had a good experience, and we'd certainly return in the future.
Tip: It can be a little challenging to find, since the main entrance isn't immediately along the street.
Came here for a late lunch after golfing in Santa Cruz. The place was pretty packed and we were able to get a booth. Service was great. We ordered the following:
Bowl of clam chowder - my boyfriend loved it, he ate it quick
Salad with warm duck (with candied walnuts, beets and greens) - this salad was huge with lots of duck slices and it was really seasoned and cooked well...only problem was my first bite I got a bone.
Crab cakes - 3 tiny cakes (i mean tiny) over a mango salsa - not a fan
Fish tacos - 2 tacos overflowing with slaw, small pieces of fish and large chopped red pepper. This dish was messy, I had much better elsewhere.
I would come back for the duck salad and chowder, but not the other dishes.
Came here on Labor Day for dinner with one of my friends, and had been curious to try it for a couple months it seems. I wasn't expecting to to be that great since some of the yelp reviews weren't that good. But I believe it does depend mostly on what you are ordering from here. The interior feels very brewery restaurant like, comfortable and casual.
Started off with a pint of Pilsner each, which my friend seemed to like. It was a surprise of bitterness to me, just because I wasn't expecting it. And after looking the menu over for 5-10 min., I had decided on the half roasted chicken which comes with mash potatoes, gravy, and green beans. My friend had thought that would be good, and ordered the same.
Based on this dish, I would have to say it was delicious. Chicken seemingly cooked very well with the spices making the bird damn good. I am pretty sure the chicken was organic free range, and hormone free. You can really taste the difference with those special organic farm chickens, which is probably why it is so expensive. $16 alone for that dish, but plenty filling. I would probably give the place 5/5 if it wasn't so expensive.
Always a good menu for casual dining friendly staff, good beer and nice wine selection.
I have been her many times. It used to be good. The last time I was there., My date, my family and I were having lunch. The waiter poured the entire full glass of wine all over my date's shirt, crotch, and pant legs. He was drenched. He had to sit there and eat in a full wetsuit, reeking of wine. The table was all wet too. No apologies., no ! We got the manager. No apology. He asked to have them pay for the cleaning. She refused to do that. She was rude and obnoxious and argumentative. Very unprofessional. I would not recommend this place, nor will I ever go there. There were five in our party, and we had just picked up 2 of them at the airport. We were on our way to travel to another city 2 hours away. It ruined our event and our plans. She offered nothing, no dessert, no gift certificates to make our next visit better. NOTHING. RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT
I've been here once before just for the beer and a couple apps so it was about time I went for a complete meal.
Appetizer: Antipasta -- you really can't go wrong with several cured meats, fresh mozz with pesto, and a variety of olives and roasted peppers.
Main: Pork Chop and Steak -- Both dishes were very well cooked and the sides were delicious as well.
Dessert: Banana bread pudding and creme brulee -- Bread pudding was awesome with a mini explosion of chocolate in the middle... brulee had a great crunch.
Beers: Pale Ale & Blood Orange Cider -- Both... MMmmmmm
I found LGBC to be a great place if you want to have something more than pub fare, but still want to enjoy a good brew.
Even though I have a Yelp account for ages, I noticed that so far, I've only written one review. That's not because I don't get to go anywhere nice or bad, it's just that I keep on forgetting. The experience I had last night though deserves a review....
Last night, we had dinner at the Los Gatos Brewing company. Not for the first time, we've been there many times before. Although we noticed that over the months the service and quality were getting "down" a bit compared to a year ago, we still like the place.
Service was a bit slow but that's not something that really bothers us. Appetizers were good as usual, main courses as well. But then..... even though it is not listed on their desert menu, we wanted to close off with a nice Irish Coffee. It's been a while since we had one of these so why not we thought. Well, let me tell you why not:
We've asked the waitress if it was possible to have an Irish Coffee, she smiled as usual and said it would be no problem. Minutes later she comes back with something that looks like a smaller beer glass filled with black coffee. After smelling it does appear to have whiskey in it but hey... isn't an Irish Coffee a coffee with brown sugar, Irish Whiskey and cream on top? We ask the waitress what this is supposed to be and mention that we were expecting something different. She immediately goes all defensive and says that according to the little black book the bartender has, this is an Irish Coffee. We disagree but hey, to each their own. She asks the manager to come up so he can solve our "problem". We again explain that we expect something different for an Irish Coffee and even describe how a normal Irish Coffee should look and what's in it.
He is very kind in taking our coffee's back with him and comes back with new ones, he stirred a brown sugar cube with whiskey and coffee and put very cold milk in a small can next to it. As it tasted good, we left the matter rest a bit.
Okay...just a little bit. We can be a bit "know-it-alls" from time to time so we thought to help the bar out a tiny bit by showing them on our blackberry the recipe for an Irish Coffee. We better shouldn't have done that!
A very defensive response from a waitress telling us that "Everyone makes them different" and "This is the way I am taught an Irish Coffee is made" and "You as a customer are soooo wrong" left us laughing and leaving the place with a feeling of "This once was nice, they still have good beers but never we will be back here for dinner, just a beer before going somewhere else to spend our money".
As said, the beer is good and can even be great (especially what they have on cask!), the food is still good but when a bar has no idea how to make an Irish Coffee, than there is something wrong!
I was quite pleasantly surprised when my boyfriend and I took my sister and her husband to LGBC for a birthday brunch last Sunday. We were seated immediately and served luscious blueberry coffee cake still warm from the oven.
The server was wonderful (I think her name is Margarita) and cheerfully put up with the goofy humor my boyfriend and bro-in-law kept dishing out!
The food was fresh and delicious - and the two vegetarians present both found meals they loved. What surprised all of us was how reasonable the price was! A couple of weeks ago, we went to an absolutely awful meal at a greasy spoon and paid more for inedible food (hello Little Amsterdam!).
I highly recommend LGBC for a relaxed Sunday brunch. Yummmmmm.
It's really funny that all the negative reviews I "glanced at" are from people Who Cannot Afford To Eat Here and failed spelling (hadda? you are an idiot, you have a job? what street corner sweetie?)
LGBC has not survived ALL these years by putting crap on a plate or making BAD beer.
I remember when it opened many years ago, before the "micro-brew" fad when the bar was 10 deep and you needed a rezy a month out. The bar is still crowded, the beer is still very very good, the food is consistent and fairly priced (If you can afford $10 bux for a sammy.)
LGBC has not changed much over the many years of its existence, but that's a good thing. It's nice to be living closer again. I can't wait to come back. Tastes like home! and I miss one of the old, many hangouts.
Go for the beer, stay for the food. It has something for everyone.
Lucky me, for my birthday, I had three dinner parties. One the day before, one on the day of, and one on the day after.
I had a party of about 15 and we were a little bit late, but they were nice about it and everything worked out okay. I heard good things about the 1/2 Spit Roast Chicken, so I tried that and it was really good. The only downer with any chicken is when you move into the middle, it's really dry. damn the white meat.. sigh. but the appetizers were good. there's a really great appetizers list that i would love to come back and try. the bread that they serve for appetizing is also really good. it's sourdough i believe, but it's so fresh and delicious.. it was like melt in my mouth ..
there was a special that night of steak, shrimp, lobster, etc.. my guy friends thought it sounded good enough so they said what the hell and tried it. later on when we got the bill, they found out they ordered themselves a $60 plate.. haha, boys =) but they said it was really good and well worth the $60.
And of course, they gave me a free mini birthday dessert, which was really nice of them. But it was too chocolaty for my taste, but i still very much appreciated it.
Oh, and our server was super hot. =)
I definitely recommend this place.
They do good beer here. I would say I liked their Pale Ale over Hefeweizen, but that might just be my mood of the day.
Food here is not bad neither. We had some steak, pasta and Tuna, Hamachi Tartar. Pasta is good. I like the sauce, but the sausage was a bit dry. Hamachi Tartar was good, but could have been better if the sauce is less teriyaki sweet and a bit more wasabi spicier, and chilled.
Customer service was good, and I don't mind going back again.
I met a friend for there for lunch. I have been here on several occasions and have always enjoyed the food and service. Today was no exception.
In the past this restaurant has always packed for lunch, but today there were perhaps a dozen groups dining (we did arrive at 12:45pm). Even the bar area had very few patrons, with just a few sipping a beverage and watching the Giants game on the flat screens TV's.
We were immediately seated by the hostess and the waitress was at our table within a minute taking our drink orders. My friend ordered the Ahi Salad and I had the Duck Salad. The Ahi Salad is a plate of mixed greens topped with thin slices of coriander seed crusted seared Ahi and a mango chutney with a sesame lime vinaigrette. It looked delicious and was confirmed by my friend. My Duck Salad consisted of pieces of pulled duck breast meat served over mixed greens and apple, mango, beets and goat cheese. The duck meat was a bit dry and lacked flavor. My salad was just okay, and would probably not order it again.
We ordered some ice teas and the staff made sure they were topped off regularly. The service remains consistently good. Overall, it was a nice meal and a chance to catch up with a friend.
If you are into an upscale brewery. This is a nice place to go. It is very spaceous and not jam packed like some other pubs. Being a beer drinker, I liked the Pale Ale and their Hefeweizen that they have here.
We got the oysters and they just were not that great of a grade for the cost we paid. I believe it was a dozen for $24. The calamari was so so. Had much better at the peers! Dinner wise, I had the pan roasted Canadian Salmon :( A bit on the dry side. I know! I should have sent it back but.... I was in such a happy mood after 3 beers that I was smiley all night long! Well...I hadda drink with my oysters! My date had the 1/2 Spit Roast Chicken and that was not bad. Simple but you just cannot go wrong with that meal. It will surely fill you up. My other buddy had the Double Cut Boneless Pork Chops. The presentation was nice but I think he was still hungry!
Nice place to relax after a long days work and sitting in traffic!
it's weird reading bad reviews on a place that is a good hangout and serves good food.. they have many tvs so you can watch sports, drink beer, and enjoy company.
maybe the yelpers just had bad luck with service but when i was there yesterday, everything was as usual.
been coming here for years. it's a nice place that serves better-than-normal bar food...and beer. they have a beer sampler that consists of 6 glasses with 6 oz of beer each.
for the appetizer, we started off with the seared ahi tuna tartare. the bread came out warm, crust was crispy. butter was the soft kind that is easily spreadable.
bbq burger, fish n' chips (daily special), linguini w/cauliflower were all delish. service was good. they kept filling the water glasses.
their desserts are great too. they have an award-winning tiramisu. but we were stuffed!! =)
BEER: Damn, their Oktoberfest is damn delicious. I downed a few of them like I was 80 years old and it was straight from the Fountain of Youth.
FOOD: Meh, way overpriced if you ask me. It wasn't bad, per se, but I paid a good $40 for a small green salad, roasted chicken, and a small bread pudding. C'mon now, I pay less at a fancy shmancy French place. The food was pretty mediocre -- definitely not worth the prices.
SERVICE: Huh? There was service? It took 25 minutes for them to bring me my beer.
PRICES: Let's just say I'm now officially broke -- and unsatisfied. They even charged tax on the gratuity! So on our receipt there was tax (normal), gratuity fee (normal for large parties), AND a gratuity fee tax (WTF?!)
If it wasn't for the delicious beer, I would boycott this muthaf'er forever.
You know who really bugs me?
The dude that, while telling a story or making a point, asks questions during that story to emphasize said point.
For example...
"I don't know how I feel, would I have done it? No. Could she have gotten away with it? Maybe. Would I ever consider doing it again? Perhaps."
I am running up against these "askholes" quite often and they are really starting to drive me nuts.
What does that have to do with LGBC?
Nothing. Just thought I would vent for a second.
Well, typical to Los Gatos, the place was packed at 8:30 and a barren wasteland at 9:00pm.
I guess there's a curfew or something.
They forgot about us while we were at the bar but it didn't really matter.
My witty (questionless) anecdotes were keeping us occupied while their beers kept us three degrees below sober.
Outside of that, all was well.
Fish tacos were decent.
I most likely won't be eating here again but hot damn, I will be imbibing their pale ale for years to come.
What?
Waiter (speaking to Husband): What'll you have, man?
Husband: Um, I'll have the bratwurst.
Waiter (turning to my mother): And what'll you have, sweetie?
My mother pleasantly gives our waiter her order while the rest of us at the table give each other strange looks. Really, who calls a 60 year old woman sweetie while asking for their dinner order? I guess our waiter was nice enough but his attitude seemed a little too flight attendant-y.
The food, at least for me, wasn't much better. I ordered the zucchini pancakes, which I thought was one of the more interesting items on the menu. The red sauce on the side tasted like jarred marinara and the pancake itself was a little bland. Husband enjoyed his bratwurst and his complimentary slice of German chocolate cake he got since it was his birthday dinner. All in all, he enjoyed his birthday dinner, which I'm glad, but I don't think I will choose to come back here.
I thought this place was like Gordon Biersch, but it felt a little more upscale. At first, it was hard to find as it's not right off of Santa Cruz Ave. although their address is. We went in from the side door to find out that we came in from the bar entrance instead of the main entrance. We had OpenTable reservations at 8:30, but we still had to wait like 15 minutes. Not sure why as there were tables open nearby. That wasn't too welcoming.
For appetizer, we tried their wood fired artichoke with balsamic vinaigrette. My husband and I tried to be daring and try it for the first time, but that was a mistake! We couldn't even figure out how to eat it! It was gross! Not LGBC's fault though. We just didn't like it. I'm going to stick to marinated artichokes and artichoke spinach dip instead.
For dinner, I had their flat iron steak which came with a side of watercress salad and potato wedges. The steak was good. Meat was tender. My husband had their pork ribs. Those ribs were meaty compared to other places we've had ribs at! The sauce was a little sweet, but tasty. Came with sweet potato fries, which I actually liked as it wasn't too sweet. Most sweet potato fries are sweet so I don't really like them.
The service was okay. Our server was a little odd, but he did his job so no complaints. Overall, the food was okay. Not sure if it's worth coming back again. NOTE, they accept Passport cards.
The decor is impressive, and you've got to admit they have great foods! They don't have many kinds of beers although I liked their Pilsner (they actually have a good wine list for a brewery). So overall it is actually a really nice restaurant for dinner. In other words, if you just go for drinks, probably you want to go somewhere else.
Wow. Let's see. Arrogant, yet incompetent bartender who refuses to rush even though multiple people have been staring at him for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. A mediocre menu backed with a kitchen that takes forever to get orders out. Weird crowd. Some good folks around to be sure -- but there's a definite undertone of floozies of all ages looking to meet a "rich guy" offset by geeks with money -- but outside of buying a fancy car to show themselves off with -- have no redeeming qualities and therefore can't get a date if their lives depended on it. Quite the petri dish. Atmosphere? Nothing special. Overpriced, too. Has been around for a number of years -- so it must be doing something right. But you know what? You need to do more than this to impress me -- so I'll take my business elsewhere.
Our favorite hangout during weekdays. Great food, love the beers! Sherman Stout and the Porter are seasonal favorites!
Only 4 stars because Fridays and on the weekend it's just too crowded and quality and service go down dramatically because of it.
Very good beer...but the food is okay. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible. Service was very good...it's just that there's a big jump from the the burgers/pizzas to the entrees. My mussels appetizer could have used 50% more mussels. They didn't even come with frites or crispy bread!!! The sweet potato fries were good though.
Pretty busy place but they were attentive and friendly.
The food here has always been reliable. Good selection, quality and tasty. However, every time I have been here, the service has been horrible.
The busser brought out three waters and three breads for four people.
Then when I asked for a ginger ale, the waiter brought me coke mixed with sprite and told me they left out the bitters because he didn't check my id. I'm over 21, but pregnant and I wanted a damn ginger ale...a real one.
This guy was very apologetic but man we waited forever and the service was just ehhhhhhh. Maybe the bar is a better choice.
YUM - i had some deeeelicious food here. I got the duck salad, that came with beets and baked goat cheese. The dressing was sub-par, but the duck was cooked well and the salad had a lot going on in it, which was exciting. It was a large portion, too, so you end up getting a whole array of food for about $13. We also had the fried calamari which was fine, but nothing spectacular. Overall, the food was very enjoyable but nothing out of the ball park.
The service was a little odd ... our waiter said "No worries!" after everything he said... it got to the point where my dining companion and I stopped saying thank you so he would stop saying it. This strategy failed. He also didn't really pay attention to us after serving our food. But he tried, and was very nice. The atmosphere in here is quite nice overall - it's large, so it's easy to sit in a booth and share a quieter conversation over dinner. Pretty good dinner, I'd say.
I came here for a birthday dinner for a friend. Our party had 26 people and 2 children. The place was accommodating and the wait staff friendly, but I was not impressed by the food and the prices.
There were a few appetizers that other people had ordered that looked and smelled good, and they said were really tasty. The fried calamari and the Ahi and Hamachi Tartare looked good. The entrees looked better than they actually tasted. My Ahi Carpaccio Salad needed more dressing and more mangoes!
I don't live in the South Bay, so I doubt I will be back here any time soon.
This is a really fun place :-)
I've been here twice- once at the bar and once with a larger party. They were very accommodating for both and their own brewed beer is really fantastic.
The bar menu and the regular menu are the same. What I like most, is they serve half plates of the pasta dishes. My aunt and I picked 2 pasta dishes that we thought sounded amazing (the chicken ravioli and the goat cheese fusilli), ordered half sizes of each and it was the perfect amount.
When I was with the larger group, I was the birthday girl :) I got to taste all sorts of food- the beet salad (which was surprisingly tasty- especially since I'm scared of beets), the hummus trio (super yummy- especially the roasted red pepper- See Anosha S's review below; she was a member of my party), and a huge slab of german chocolate cake (so decadent, I needed lots of help and still had to bring it home).
My only beef was our server paid little attention to us, probably because he knew it was an automatic 18% gratuity for our sized group. My first cosmo had been consumed and it took me 2 tries to get another.
What ever happened to the old chef? His fish specials were spectacular. The female managers are wonderful but the male managers... not helpful at all. The managers were much more attentive a few years back. Sign of a bad economy?? I DO know that AP Stumps closed it's doors because of the economy. You would think that Jim Stump would concentrate on making his one and only (read last) restaurant welcoming and even better. I've seen him in the restaurant, he can't even crack a smile he's so stressed out. If they don't do something soon the few regulars that still go to the Brewing Company will venture elsewhere. How sad, I think Los Gatos is going to loose another cozy spot. Atleast the beer is still spot on. I am going to enjoy that while it lasts. Two stars for great beer and youthful staff... Meh food.
My experience here was pretty good. Went here for the bestie's birthday with a party of 6. None of us were able to even order beer so I'll save that for a later review. Our waiter was so chill and patient with us when we tried ordering our food, drinks, dessert, and asking him to give us a birthday dessert for the birthday girl. The bestie and I shared the Mac & Cheese and Sliders. I really wanted to try the Grilled Lamb Steak, but the bestie isn't a fan of lamb so scratch that out. It was a really busy Saturday night at LG, but our waiter did a good job in making sure our drinks were refilled and to see how we were doing; however, he didn't do a great job on grabbing all our empty glasses everytime he gave us a new one. It wasn't until the bus boy finally came and picked up all our cups.
The sliders are cute little cheeseburgers --tender beef cooked to perfection that had melted american cheese ontop, and was topped with a mini sesame bun. The Mac & Cheese wasn't all that great because it was too liquid-y;I'm guessing from the milk that they put in. But surprisingly, the herb flavored croutons that were put on top balanced well with the Mac and Cheese.
For dessert, we ordered a NY style cheesecake and for the birthday girl, she received a warm chocolate banana bread with chocolate pudding, topped with vanilla gelato. The NY was accompanied with fresh cut strawberries, but the cheesecake itself wasn't that great. The chocolate banana bread with chocolate pudding was extremely good, and rich. It was a pretty dessert with a long chocolate stick balanced on top. If you've been to Chili's and tried their chocolate lava cakes, this dessert was like that except it had vanilla gelato and was banana-flavored.
By the end of the night we were extremely full, and left the restaurant like the heifers we are.
-- Oh ! I recommend setting up a reservation, unless you don't mind waiting for a long time (especially fri & sat) &If you forget, you can always chill at the bar, drinking and watching a game as you wait for your table.
Having never eaten at their restaurant before, and being gypped for happy hour twice in a row, I had almost written off this place. However, my boyfriend had decided he absolutely had to have their bourbon barrel aged stout. He enjoyed it enough to make peace with the restaurant, and even made conversation with the bartenders. They seem to be the only place in Los Gatos that is a brewery and knows what they are doing, in spite of the price gouging.
Later that night, we were turned away from CB Hannegans due to their St. Paddy's block party and we were looking for some food for my sister. This was the next likely establishment we could go to and in spite of coming in just under the wire for kitchen closure, they served us some food and some more stout. We had the chocolate bread pudding for dessert and it tasted heavenly. I paid a fortune for mac and cheese, beer, salad, and bread pudding but we were all happy.
Now some cons. Every time I walk into the bar, the waitresses ignore me and head on over to the nicely dressed couple or the business entrepreneurs. I am a good tipper and I spend money, but I clearly look like a schlub after work. The clientele here creeps me out just a little (cougars, lechers, and gold diggers, oh my!), but when I go into the restaurant I get to see less of these people and I feel much better.
I probably won't come here very often, but I have made my peace with LG Brewery as well.
Boo for bad server and even worse food! We read the decent yelp reviews and my boyfriend decided to take me here for our anniversary dinner. Lets keep this story short.
Food was awful. Both our plates were sent back twice. Cold, raw and one time even the wrong dish. My martini was in a beer glass and my boyfriend's beer was warm to the touch. Our server was peppy but that couldn't make up for his lack of knowledge when it came to menu.
We left the dinner really disappointed. So much that my boyfriend contacted the manager and he even gave us a full refund of my our meal. We will never go back
