look. these guys have always been great. but today i walked in with a laptop that had a broken trackpad button or whatever those are called. i don't know, i didn't invent computers. one of the guys touched my laptop to open it, and suddenly the button was fixed. i looked like an idiot that brought a perfectly fine laptop in. basically what i'm saying here, is that jesus clearly works at los feliz hi-tech. he healed my leper of a laptop. in conclusion, jesus works here. that's pretty cool.

Look. I want to like you Los Feliz Hi-tech. I want to. But when you tell me my hard drives broken, that you couldn't service it, and want me to pay out the nose for something you COULDN'T do. That sucks.

You guys suck at customer service. And your electronics over priced by 20%.

Best to just go to an official mac store.

Beware! My husband went to buy a 60 watt MagSafe Adapter for my MacBook. The manager convinced him to buy the 80 watt (cause they didn't HAVE ANY 60 watt in stock). He came home with it and because I had done my research I told him it wouldn't work. I called Apple Customer Service who confirmed that I could not use an 80 watt with my MacBook, it had to be a 60. We immediately went to return it. The manager credited back my credit card; I had to ask for the receipt. Fortunately I did, because my credit card statement did not reflect any credit for the purchase so I had to file a dispute which I'm confident I'll win since I have the receipt for the credit.
    VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Desperate to review a CD disc one Saturday about a month ago, my MacBookPro's CD drive would not work.  I checked all around town for an external CD/DVD drive and Los Feliz Mac had only one in stock.  The black (USB 2 only connection) LeCie model for those that are familiar with it.  Over a hundred dollars maybe around $124.00 seemed high but I needed it enough to pay what I thought was a slightly inflated price.  I never shopped the price afterwards knowing that I could have gotten a better price if I had more time but today I saw the retail price.
$70. dollars retail on the LeCie site.
I figure I paid over 150% retail at Los Feliz Mac and I feel violated.
Not place I would go to again or recommend to a friend or colleague.

These guys are great and helped me out of a bind. I traveled to Spain and Morocco late last year and on the first day of my trip my Macbook Pro died completely. Going through my admittedly limited litany of self diagnostic tests, I was pretty sure the logic board had failed and would be replaced under Applecare, but nevertheless I was stuck with an expensive paperweight for two weeks in Madrid and Marrakech. But that isn't the end of the story. Flying home, Air France required that I check my carry on bag because of increased security procedures following the crotch bomb attempt. Unfortunately, I forgot to grab the laptop out of its neoprene case, but I figured it wouldn't be a problem in my well-padded suitcase.

I was wrong. Not only did Air France lose my luggage for three days, when I finally got my bag back, I discovered that my laptop had been thoroughly crushed. Hoping that Apple could still replace the logic board under warranty, I took it to the Glendale store for repair. When I arrived, the helpful Apple tech told me that for Apple to even LOOK at the logic board, they'd need to first replace the case...at a cost of over $800. He did me a favor, though, by not putting the computer into the system and red-flagging it, instead recommending I go to Los Feliz Hi-Tech.

When I took it to the guys at LFHT, they told me it would only be $200 to replace the case. They did a great job, fixed the logic board under warranty, and had the computer back to me in a week, good as new. And as icing on the cake, Air France even reimbursed me for the damage. I won't hesitate to return to Los Feliz Hi-Tech for any future laptop mishaps, airline-induced or not.

    Oh hello,

I'm writing this review from my newly recovered and re-integrated hard drive on my Mac.

I don't know about all these negative reviews but Diego was one of the most wonderful people I've met.  My macbook crashed Sunday night (god knows why- 6months old, no liquid damage, never dropped, had a case on forever etc).  I was lucky enough to also have a wonderful person at the Apple store in Pasadena (ALEX) to go out of his way and have my hard drive replaced the same night (they're open till 10 during holiday hours THANK GOD).  Anyway, they gave me back my hard drive, which apparently never happens and I took it to LFHT the next day at 9am because I was referred to them.

Diego listened to me, was sweet, understanding and contemplative about my situation.  He immediately sold me with his adorable Argentinian accent and kind paternal vibe.  He understood that I had grad applications due in 2 days and that my personal statement and writing samples were on my failed hard drive.  When I asked, he told me upfront the diagnostic cost ($90) and immediately ran his tests, encouraging me all the way because he saw positive blinking blue lights.

Diego was able to recover all the essential documents, pictures and music and then went out of his way to ask me to bring my laptop back so he could try to work on it and recover my applications (notably my paid version of MS Office) as well.  Somehow he extracted my applications as well, transferred them onto his computer and connected his computer and my laptop and transferred my entire user account back on my brand new hard drive!

He (as well as Alex from the Apple store) saved my life and my future perhaps by helping me stay on track with my applications.  They didn't have to go out of their way to help me same day (although they could and should since they have the time but many business owners don't and operate on their own levels regardless of people's problems).  I appreciate Diego so much for this.

And on a superficial level, I wouldn't have stayed at the store if it hadn't been the way it was.  The store is light and airy BEAUTIFUL and so clean, sharp and so modern!  I loved it, it made me feel so comfortable, no dirty, dingy boxes with outdated, broken computers here!

Thanks Diego, I owe you a nice Malbec :D

    I officially HATE this place.

    Key reasons:

    -They LOST my computer. W T F.
-They forgot to call me for over a week when I told them I had work on my computer that I needed twice. They didn't return my calls for over a week.
-They told me my computer was ready, then when I went there it wasn't and I had to go back home.
-When I got the computer back A WEEK later, my camera was broken, and every time I go to restart or shut down my computer I get the "grey screen of death".
-They sold me the wrong type of charger after looking at my computer, which completely fucked up my battery.
-They managed to also completely ruin my new battery.
-Horrible customer service. Literally got yelled at like I was an idiot because I asked one of the guys working over on the side a simple question.

I feel like an idiot for going back here after the first time they majorly messed up... Seriously, just go to the Apple store.

When I needed to sell my Mac Pro and Macbook together to get into a Macbook Pro I came here. Diego was a pleasure to work with as he took his time with me and gathered the specs I needed on my new MBP. We spoke about what would be fair for both of us in a trade-in situation for a new machine. Once Diego ordered my MBP it was in the next afternoon and he gave me a great deal on a carrying case and punched up the ram to 8 gigs so I punched up the air in the shop when he wasn't looking. All the guys at LFHT are extremely helpful and I can see why they win awards for customer service excellence.

I need to pick up a good sound card (possibly the Apogee Duet) and my first stop will be Los Feliz Hi-Tech. I recommend this place to anyone who is thinking of trading in their older Mac for a newer one.

This place has what you need. A step above the R Shack and Best Buy when you really need the cables that get shit done.

Knowledgable staff guys too that speak 'tech idiot.'

However the prices are jacked. Twice what you' d pay at Pacific Radio. They quoted me $110 for a mini HDMI display port and a 10ft extension. Basically to run my mac book to my TV.

Same exact thing at PR was like $50.

I was LIED to. I would get a second opinion if you can before using them. Trust me it may save you some money.

I took in a external hard drive that i recently purchased elsewhere and that I had transferred over 700 GB of music on because I was getting a message that "the disc structure is corrupted and unreadable". All I wanted them to do was to run Disc Utility and repair the drive if possible. I was pointed in the direction of a Tech by the name of JC. He took my hard drive and hooked it up and with in a couple of minutes told me that my hard drive was unrepairable and I would need a new one and recommended that I purchase one from them. He was not aware that when he hooked up my hard drive that I could see over his back and I seen my folders load up on the computer screen, I kept shut.

In stepped Brandon Culvey. I told him I was looking for a hard drive and what I needed done. He pointed out a couple of models that were way over my price range. I told him I would get back to him. I decided to get a second opinion at another store. Well they looked at my hard drive and ran Disc Utility and found no problems with it. So I brought it home and hooked it up and it is working. I found out it was a software problem and not the drive. So here are my final thoughts.

    1)  The tech JC was nice and listened to what I had to say BUT I was LIED to by him. There was not a problem with my hard drive.
    2)  Brandon Culvey was very nice and also listened to my concern. Although some of the information he gave me was wrong about transferring data i don't fault him.
    3) The prices at this place on some items are 200 % above retail at least in the LaCie hard drives I was looking at. $300 for a 1 TB hard drive I could buy from Amazon or Newegg for less than half that price. I mean even buying directly from LaCie I would still save $100.00. I guess in Los Feliz they can get away with it , more power to them.

All in all I will not deal with LFHT ever again. Too bad because I like to spend my money with local businesses. Well I have to leave I'm going to go check out the new Macbook Air. I don't know where I'll buy it from but I do know where I WONT BUY it from. Thanks.

It is a blessing to have an alternative to the mall Apple stores, which are overrun with lollygaggers & looky-loos. I mean business! Hi-Tech has everything you would need to get at a Mac store - computers, back-up drives, cases, cables, technical support, and people to answer our stupid questions; thoughtfully, of course.

Other pluses - location, location, location! Right up the way from my home in Silverlake. Open 7 days a week. And... best of all... a parking lot.

So, ComputersWTF recommended this place to me and I wish I had made my more recent purchases here because Adam is right, this place rocks.

We went in and of course I started to drool but we were there to figure out how to stream from laptop to TV, not geek it out on other things. Diego greeted us, went over our ports on our laptops and got us all setup.

I started to wander around and realized that this place seems to cater to the image professionals. They have the printers, calibrators, wacom, etc. so not only are they full service mac but wowies! This is my store! :D

When we were getting checked out that I had a funny feeling I knew Diego. Turns out I was right! We used to work together at another company several years ago and that just makes me so happy. It's great to see such an honest and good person running a business that I need regularly. Win and Win!

If you don't shop here for your tech needs I cry for you.

These guys saved my ass! Computers WTF recommended them to me without hesitation and I went there with what seemed to be a busted hard drive (I won't get into what was really wrong, but laptop + pit bull = you guess.)
Anyway, I could not have gotten better service, a complete, patient and detailed explanation (I am hardly a techie) and the feeling that my poor little laptop was in the BEST of care.

Not only was I right, my laptop is fine and I didn't get the hard-sell, "you NEED this, this is busted" etc that I would have gotten somewhere else. Imagine if I left work and went to the Apple store. I'll never shop anywhere else again for my Mac. Love 'em.

This place is truly fantastic.  After spending over an hour waiting for help at the Apple Store in the Glendale Galleria (and after an entire morning trying to call them and NOT getting though ONCE) I decided to try my luck at the new Apple shop in my hood, when my little Powerbook (yes I know, I'm ghetto) was super sick.

The store is bright and nice, definitely new, very cool, but not as sterile as your average Mac store.  The staff is incredibly attentive and the service was wonderful.  I was really nervous about how much my computer was going to cost to fix.  I handed it to a guy, explained my problems, and within 15 minutes he had fixed it, in front of me, FOR FREE.  That's right.  Now for more serious repairs I'm sure this isn't their policy haha, but it was seriously amazing and awesome.

Needless to say, I'll be shopping for a sexy new Macbook in the next 6 months or so, and this is definitely where I'm going, and I would encourage all you yelpers to hit this place up and do the same.  They sell new and used Macs, and do repairs.  Seriously great!

Here we go again.  One month later and I'm having the EXACT same problem I paid Los Feliz Hi-Tech to fix.  Awesome.  What am I supposed to do now?  I guess I'll just have to do what the rest of the world does and go to an Apple store to visit the "Genius Bar" that the guys in Los Feliz Hi-Tech discourage you from doing.

Wow, what a difference!  What took Los Feliz Hi Tech over two weeks to fix, took the guys at the "Genius Bar" less than one hour!!!  Amazing!!

Before I went to the Apple store I very briefly considered going into LFHT one last time to give them another chance.  After all, they are my friendly neighborhood shop right?  Then I thought about what they told me last time I was in there, thought about my experience, and realized just like my hard drive, my business is unrecoverable.  Thanks, but no thanks. Next time I'm going back to the Apple store!

I don't know if this means anything but the reviews that are lower than three starts are almost without exception coming from men, while the gals here seem to feel more positively.  The staff at LFHT are charming males and I've seen them act a bit more I-don't-know, swoony towed the ladies.

I had a similar experience myself.  They were less patient with me but were practically holding the hand of the woman I shred the counter with.

Having "said" that.  My overall experience with the store has been ok. They are  a cool addition to the Los Feliz/Silverlake hood-- as if we have our own private Apple store, but I have not asked them to fix anything, I just buy accessories there.

why on earth anybody would go to the Apple store, wait in line for hours and get no service is beyond me.  I have bought several little things here over the years and finally when it came time to order my new "fancy" computer I headed straight there.  Every member of staff is extremely helpful.  i am still impressed that Brandon suggested I get a Drobo which they don't even stock the last time I was there.  It's like Santa sending shoppers to Gimballs in Miracle on 34th Street.  Now I trust him completely!

Extra bonus?  No mall parking or mall crowd!

All my questions answered and had a new CD drive installed for half the price of what the Apple Store was asking AND it only took 1 day (Apple Store wanted to send my computer off for 5 business days and warned me I may lose information on my computer if the system needed to be cleared)...

After realizing I left my MacBook power cord at the office, I tried to remember frantically where I could buy a replacement. I'd noticed there was a Circuit City on Sunset, so I tried there first. They didn't carry power cords and recommended I go all the way to the Glendale mall. It was pouring rain and I had a coffee date in an hour at Bourgeois Pig. Luckily I was able to check Yelp on my blackberry and found out about Los Feliz Hi Tech, just blocks away. The people there were super friendly and it's great to know that I have a good Mac place in my neighborhood.

Had the strangest experience here this afternoon.  I was sent here by the Apple Store in the Glendale Galleria because they didn't have a certain product to show me.  So I go in and start talking to one of the three people in the store and about 10 minutes into the conversation, another customer comes up behind me and says, to the guy I'm talking to, "That's mine." and points to a laptop on the counter next to me.  It was strange enough that she didn't approach either of the other two employees, the really weird part was that the guy I was talking to dropped our conversation - without so much as a, "just a moment" - and started helping her.
It's true I had almost come to the end of my list of questions, so I left, but it was really strange.  Especially in the days of this quick and very public feedback.  It made it so clear that every person through the door is a chance to either enhance or diminish your reputation.  The guy had a lot of good information and I had the cash in my pocket to make the purchase - I don't know that I would have but it was there and I was considering it until the interruption.  Now I'm not sure if I'll go back or not.

Nothing less than 5 stars on this page and I'm going to continue this trend. My hard drive completely crashed yesterday, kaput. I had a backup but was uneasy about replacing my internal hard drive myself and restoring all the data. Apple Store was quoting me ridiculous prices and lengthy repair times. I spoke to Diego at Los Feliz Hi-Tech who told me to bring it in right then and there was a good chance they could fix it that same day, which is exactly what they did. Parts and labor all together was about half of what Apple Store quoted me, and the new hard drive was about twice as big as my old one (and competitively priced with stores like Best Buy so it's not like they rip you off on the parts prices). These guys couldn't be nicer and I definitely recommend them to anyone who needs any Apple-related service.

I can't recommend this place enough. A hard drive crash can be an expensive, time consuming, emotional event. I sincerely thought that I had lost several years of priceless data. These guys replaced my hard drive and somehow retrieved all of the data for a price that was substantially cheaper than any other Mac repair place in town. To top it off they're actually a friendly, polite group of dudes despite being stuck behind monitors all day dealing with stressed out, confused clients like myself. Again, these guys work miracles with speed for extremely fair prices.

I'd been trying to fix my old G4 on my own for a while and was reluctant to put additional money into an old computer by bringing it to a repair shop. I also wasn't sure about bringing it to such a new place that previously had no reviews (the computer is too old for the Apple store to fix). I look to yelp a lot for reviews but Los Feliz Hi-Tech didn't have any yet. I took the chance and brought the computer in because it was just so conveniently located.

This is my first time reviewing a business, but because I am super happy with my experience at Los Feliz Hi-Tech and they are new to the review world, I want to give back. My computer was not only repaired, but they were patient with all of my questions and it did not cost an arm and a leg. I was actually really surprised with what how affordable the repair and replacement drive ended up being. The only issue, which wasn't bad in the end, was that I dropped of my computer and didn't hear anything for a week and a half. I feel like maybe they had forgotten about it until my call. But they were attentive when I did check in and the computer was ready that day. I probably could have called earlier, but I wasn't in a rush.

Definitely go to this store if you like the following things:

    1. to be accused of leaving your items (multiple laptops) in the store "for over a month and a half, without a word from you!!!! (yes, yelling) and NOT TRUE-as I pointed out to him that I'd had several conversations with his employee.

    2. to be accused of trying to get free work done. I asked when Brandon would be working (the ONLY REASON THE STORE GOT A STAR FROM ME), the owner said "don't think you are getting it for free b/c he is working on it" When I replied, "well, no it's b/c Brandon is respectful and doesn't treat me like I am idiot" He replies "NO, YOU'RE the one with the problem!"

    3. to be berated in front of your young child. Yes, all of this took place in front of my child. Unreal.

When I argued back and forth with him (my mistake, don't ever argue with an idiot) his reply? "I AM THE OWNER!!!". Cool dude, good to see you setting an example for your employees by accusing and berating a woman in front of her kid. What a knob.

Anyway, I took my business elsewhere and what I was quoted "I don't know....90.00 per hour, maybe more maybe less depending on what they have to do (um, set up a MAIL ACCOUNT!)"  turned out to be a :15 minute FREE fix by a really cool salesperson in the Apple store.

Honestly,  this store is a rip. And awful service to boot. I got the service  and advice I wanted for maybe two bucks more in gas. Plus, I didn't get reamed. Imagine that!

The ONE saving grace about this store is Brandon. What a cool dude. if you MUST go here, see him. He's kind, patient and lovely to deal with . Brandon, go do your own thing, this place is toxic.

As of this writing, I'm the 17th person to review LFHT and every single person before me has given them 5 stars.  That says it all.  When my 17" MacBook Pro died I was loathe to make an appointment at the Mac "Genius Bar," so I gave these guys a shot and wasn't disappointed. They discovered that my logic board had bit the dust, so they recovered my hard drive and stuck it in a new shell, creating a handy new external for me.  These guys are straight-talkers and most importantly,  trustworthy.  I also love that they're a small outfit, so you get the personal touch.  I dealt with Andrew, who was cool, organized, and knowledgeable.  A rare combo these days.

If they offer to buy your old laptop from you or give you a trade-in deal for a discount on a new computer, get it in writing or don't count on it.

My 15" MacBook Pro stopped working, and they were very quick to diagnose it--it needed a new hard drive. My three years of AppleCare had just run out, so I figured it would be a good time to get a new computer. But it was still an unexpected expense, so I was trying to save wherever I could.

The guys at LFHT were helpful in explaining my options, one of which was buying a new computer from them and trading mine in for about $400 off the price of a new one. I asked if they'd buy it from me (not as a trade-in) if I decided to buy a new computer directly from Apple instead of from them, and they said they would.

So I decided to buy from Apple instead, because it saved me a few hundred dollars with an education discount on a refurb. When I told them I wasn't buying a new one from them, LFHT changed their minds and said they weren't interested in buying my old one. I don't know if they would have changed their minds if I'd bought it from them, but either way, I feel like I wasn't given an honest answer about the trade-in.

I'm not angry, but I would have liked them to tell me up-front the real likelihood they'd buy my computer in each circumstance.

I was really pleased with my experience at Los Feliz HiTech.  Finally, I was able to get my computer fixed without the long wait at the Genius Bar, or a 'Genius' telling me they couldn't fix my computer since the problem wasn't happening at the time I brought it in.  Why does that always happen?!  (It happened to me 3 times!!)
Anyway, I finally got around to taking my computer to HiTech, and was greeted immediately by Brandon who did a very thorough intake of the issues, was very nice and helpful.  The deal with my computer was that I found out that morning my Apple Care was set to expire at midnight, so I rushed over there and they assured me they would get my order in promptly, so that I wouldn't have to pay a dime to Apple for neglecting to fix my computer themselves.  Diego the owner came over and also promised to push my order through right away.
The repair took a little longer than expected, but that was due to them having to order new parts and waiting for them to arrive.  The tech, Rojelio called me himself to give me updates on the status, as well as Brandon.  So, all in all, I got two new hard drives with all my data transferred perfectly, and a new superdrive which is working great.
Three Thumbs Up!!  Thanks guys, i'll definitely be back again.

Oh, and the bonus, I didn't have to pay a dime!

My recent experience is was not good to say the least.   It turns out that they did not do the correct procedure (recommended by Apple) on the computer once it came back from Apple in replacing my hard drive.   I am a freelancer and my computer is my lifeline in regards to making a living.   When I went back into the store the customer service person spent more time telling me her background as a independent film maker and how much money she had spent in in past on MAC products.  Needless to say, this had nothing to do about my computer and why it was still having problems.  She was totally clueless and made me even more frustrated.   On the same day I was at the store, another customer walked out after being told his computer was ready but was not.    I ended up taking my computer to the Apple store in the Glendale Mall and it seems that they are getting complaints about Los Feliz Hightech.    It is very unfortunate because my initial experiences with them have been very good and I was very excited that they were in the neighborhood.  I don't know what happened but I will not go back there again. Granted they do need someone who is skilled at customer service since their tech guys can be very condescending but they need to really get rid of the person that they have in regards to handling customer service.    I confess I am not a technical guru but she totally clueless!

I'm really torn on how many stars to give these guys. Two of the guys I dealt with were great and helpful - Diego and Brandon, but there was another guy who was really difficult. I took my ibook here for hard drive replacement and when I got it back, the sound was not working. Worked when I took it in, didn't work when I got it back. My conclusion? Something wasn't reconnected when the put the computer together after replacing the hard drive. When I spoke to this other person about it over the phone, I expected him to say since you just spent over $300 here, bring it back and we'll take a look to make sure we did everything right. Something along those lines.  Instead, this guy started telling me how you never know when things will go wrong with older computers, bla bla bla... ARGUING with me that it couldn't have anything to do with their replacement of the hard drive. I hung up, Brandon then called me back and told me they'd be happy to take a look at it. I brought it back, and sure enough, someone had simply forgotten to hook the sound back up. No big deal and they cleaned my computer for me as a little apology. I still have to take off one star for that unpleasant man and the inconvenience of returning with the computer.

This is one of the few true neighborhoods of Los Angeles. And "Los Feliz High Tech" fits in perfectly.  I've been a Mac user now since 1994. Though Macs are, of course, the ultimate user friendly computer, we still run into the occasional hiccup. My highest levels of stress do not come from work or deadlines. Rather, they come from down time on the computer. Whether it be upgrading software, memory, or  replacing the entire computer, this 'changeover' can take days. But at Los Feliz High Tech, Diego (the Owner) makes it effortless. The store is walking distance from my Architectural practice. Both Diego and his employee's have such wonderful, warm and calming personalities that they immediately put you at ease. Repairs are typically while you wait. Even the longest is no more than a day. There's never a hard sell. They're extremely knowledgeable. And  prices for repairs are the best in town.

On a recent Sunday, I brought my iBook in because it was running slow. I sat and chatted with Diego about everything while he upgraded the memory and the operating system. He suggested this route as way to get the most life out of my 4 year old Mac. Imagine that!  It's like having a family friend down the street who is the Mac guru. Can't beat it!  Congratulations Diego on a great store.
