Review from Chuck B.
This is one of the remaining two restaurants in the area still offering a Salvadoran menu. Happily both are good.
After a bracing walk on River RD N today, I popped in here and was cheerfully greeted by the hostess. My server brought Chips, Salsa (fiery good), Bean Dip and Lemoned Ice water. I was grateful that she kept the water coming as the Salsa had my thirst in over-drive.
I ordered a Shredded Pork and Cheese Pupusa and Tamale with fried Yucca Root both off the ala carte menu. (I'd never had fried Yucca Root. Its flavor and consistency was a little more substantial than, but not unlike Russett Potato JoJos.) Both dishes were wonderful and all each came with a heaping helping of Curtido (tasty Salvadoran Pickled Cole Slaw).
It was nice to deviate from my customary Mexican fare. I really enjoyed it. Good as it was, it was a huge volume of food about half of which awaits in a doggie box in my fridge. A tasty midnight nosh perhaps.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Love at first bite. My my my!
Was in town for work and we all went here. My anything-south-of-the-border outlook on food is pretty critical being from Texas. This place delivers.
Everything we had was amazing. The service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind, because it was so friendly and pleasant.
Mexican AND Salvadoran. PAPUSAS!! Yes yes yes, YES!
The owner (I cannot recall her name) seems to know all of her customers and took time out of her day to explain to me (almost Venn diagram style) the difference and similarities between Mexican and Salvadoran tamales.
Oh, and salsa is actually hot (good thing). -

Salem, OR
My Wife and I walked in and the people here just stared and pointed to where we could sit. then we looked at the menu to discover that there are no refills on the soft drinks, stupid, but forgivable. Our waitress, however, was not forgivable. She had an apathetic mood to our presence and barely said a word, then after the check came we waited for 10 minutes while she fiddled with a plant to charge us. All of this would have gone without much of a fuss, exept we saw how they treated another couple people when they showed up to the store. Pleasantries a plenty, but for my Wife and I we got the cold shoulder. Needless to say, we will not be going here again.

Finally someplace good to eat when my husband and I are visiting Grandma in Keizer. Adorable warm Latin decor and an owner who waits on tables all help to make this a memorable place. I have only had Salvadorian food a few times in SF and was eager to try it again. This places serves both Salvadorian and traditional Mexican food. The chips and salsa are homemade and crazy good, they even had a small dish of warm beans for the chips which was fabulous.
I tried the Pupusa filled with pork and cheese it was delicious. I also had a combination plate with shrimp and a skirt steak, beans, rice and tortillas. The shrimp was cooked to perfection plump and moist, but the steak was a bit tough. Their tortillas are fresh and I could eat those all day long with their black beans. I washed it all down with a thirst quenching margarita on the rocks. Yum!
This looks like a great place for large groups too. -

We had salvadorean food the night before after we underestimated the drive time it would take us from Seattle to Portland. The place we went to tho doesn't even get close to Los Dos Hermanos food selection and friendly service.
I was surprised when friends mentioned a salvadorean restaurant in their neighboorhood of Salem which is quite a ways from Portland. Willing to try just about everything once we went for lunch and it didn't disappoint us. The owner also waits on the tables and it's a cute little place. I really liked their decorations.
They serve both mexican and salvadorean dishes and have quite a big selection. Our friends never had salvadorean food so this was a good way to try it. The plates are really big. I had the camarones acajutla and they were very good. The plate is served with rice and beans and the shrimp were prepared with onions, bell peppers and tomatoes.
The price for four was very reasonable and we'd love to come visit this place again.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Love this place. I have never been disappointed. I've even introduced it to tons of people. Try the pupusas, and the platanos con crema; they are great.

Salvadorean AND Mexican food? Yum! Low key atmosphere with kitchy design might make you think twice about stopping here, but get over that faulty instinct and walk on in. You will not regret it! Great menu, with something to appeal to everyone. Starting with the requisite fresh chips and salsa (with just enough heat), then moving on to an appetizer (try the fried yucca root; fried but not greasy, and tasty with the shredded cabbage). Whole beans and rice with the entree were better than the average, and definitely try out any of the Salvedorean meals, you can't go wrong!

One thing to note about this family-run operation is that it is a Salvadoran restaurant as well as Mexican. This is the place to go if you're jonesin' for papusas. Even if you're not jonesin' for the papusas you should go and at least try them because they're the best. And cheap too.
