9 reviews for Los Cucos
My choice for Mexican in College Station. The menu is pretty standard for your sit down Tex Mex--combo plates of tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and so on. They've also got some more 'exotic' things, like chalupas, flautas, and chimichangas. Obviously the highlight of the entire restaurant is the deep fried avocado--a whole avocado stuffed with meat and cheese and then breaded and fried. A must have. The requisite beans and rice are above average, always a plus.
I got lunch for the first time today, and the menu was great. They've got a make-your-own combo plate (so you can get the fried avocado with something else!) plus on Mondays and Tuesdays draft beers are 99 cents and margaritas are $1.49. For a city in Texas, College Station has surprisingly few quality Tex Mex options, but Los Cucos is one of the better ones.
The menu here is refreshingly different from other Mexian offerings nearby. Margaritas pack a punch and, although I have no qualifications to call this place authentic, it seems to be so. The ambience is not good, but all is forgiven once some tequila starts running through your body. Fried avocado? Count me in.
Good food, friendly service, reasonably priced and consistent over multiple visits - what more could I ask for?
Plus, it is kid friendly and serves great margaritas.
Meh. Los Cucos has gone through periods where it's good, and periods where it's bad. The food is generally bland and cheaply made. They have had health violations in the past. Like other restaurants near the campus, there's usually a wait at peak times, but less so than other places because it is large.
If you grew up on mexican food in Texas, you'll probably like Los Cucos, but I found the food to be bland and overly fatty. If you have had mexican food that tastes good, you'll want to search elsewhere.
I spent Valentine's Day dinner here back in 2002. We ran across the highway for our romantic dinner. Los Cucos has possibly the best fajitas I've ever had. The chicken ones come with onions and peppers in a white wine sauce. Sounds weird but it works.
And they're for the Bay-Area-unheard-of-price of $7!!!
Damn, I wish this place was in California.
This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in College Station, quite large with a nice atmosphere and it's always packed with Aggies. Kid friendly, nice Margaritas and quite a large menu. My wife and I have found great service both times we have visited and the food was top notch. We will most certainly go back. Seems that the prices are pretty reasonable as well.
This place is very overpriced and the food quality is pretty low. It is NOT authentic Mexican food. Instead, they serve bland rice and very small bland tacos. They have a decent selection but the food is pretty expensive and the rice was flavorless, like rice out of a package. The quesadilla I had was so thin that when we had left overs I ate my girlfriend's portion by mistake since it was on the bottom. The taste was bland, pretty high prices for the food quality and not authentic. There are WAY better places in Bryan than this. Even the place that was next to Canes is better. If you grew up on AUTHENTIC Mexican food this is NOT the place for you, if you grew up on Taco Bell or you like the type of Mexican food served to non Mexicans then this is for you. Bland food at high prices.
Gone twice now and I wont try anything else, but only because the fajitas are amazing!!! Cooked onions, mushrooms, and peppers in a white cilantro sauce... on their home cooked tortillas. I suggest getting a MED order for TWO people, because its 1.5 lb's of meat with a side of great rice... ONLY so you can fill up on their salsa (best in town), did i mention its easy on the pocket? If you try the dish you'll be afraid to stray away on your next visit.
My preferred place in town for Mexican food. I grew up on Mexican food so most other places in BCS seem average. Loc Cucos has a good menu variety, isn't expensive, and a little better than others in my opinion. Fajitas are great if you don't know what to get.
