Bottom line:  Good restaraunt/good atmosphere and I would return.

I liked the atmosphere, but be warned: others do to!  Friday/Saturday night it is packed and you have to find parking off the lot. I had Chicken Fajita's and they were so-so.  Magarita was good.  Salsa was very good.

We had a large group and the wait staff was very accomodating, which was nice.  They hanlded our group well.

Just visited Carlos & Mickey's for the first time tonight, much to the surprise of my buddy Ruby, who made it seem like this place was so well established that I would have visited it a lost when I lived in El Paso.  Nope, I was a C&M first-timer.

The food is very good!  I've had a mad craving for some queso fundido for a few weeks now, so I had to go for it, and it was well worth it, half-cheese, half-chorizo and green chiles, 100% heaven!  My entree had an enchilada, carnitas, chile relleno, and 2 tacos, all of them terrific.  Capped off the meal with some top notch flan, highly recommend it!  I don't drink, but I hear they have some killer margaritas here, and they certainly look yummy :)

The atmosphere is very festive and vibrant, but the only thing keeping me from granting that elusive 5th star was the volume of the music.  Listen, I love live mariachi as much as anyone else, but good lord they are loud, like you can't carry a conversation at all loud!  I know its a big part of the atmosphere, but there's gotta be a way to either not play as loud, or not play as often.

I know it's a restaurant, but as many times as I've been here I've never ordered food. Fridays and Saturdays it gets pretty packed for the relitivly small bar area. I usually show up on weekdays for drama free nights.
Usually a 2 person band playing live music. One on the keyboards and the other playing bongos. Drinks can be a little high, 3.25 for a bottle of bud, but nothing outragous. The spot to hit up for a laid back evening. Try the food too, I hear it's not bad.

Passing through El Paso to and from CA, we found this place after a recommendaton from a business associate.  We really enjoy the bar where we were always fortunate to catch a Mariachi band while you sit in old fashioned barber chairs grouped around bar tables.  The appetizers are inexpensive and tasty and they stock Tecate Light.

debating to give this place a 2 or 3, maybe something in the middle.

Had the combo with everything, and the chimichanga.  must say... nothing special about either.  Maybe a little above average, but it's pretty much the same as any americanized mexican food chain.  Service is was never that great.  I wanted to go cross the border and get some real mexican tacos, but didn't want to get shot and wouldn't fit in with their gangs.

Twice we had the Beef fajitas for two ($16).....and they were seasoned/marinated wonderfully, however the last time we went they weren't good at all.  Overall I would call the food so-so.

Great margaritas; the small ($4.95) is a fairly decent size.  (Beers $2.75)

Good atmosphere but be prepared for a wait.

What? You mean this place serves food? As in something other than chips and salsa? I thought this was only an after-work hang out for people to meet and drink. Food, huh? I'll have to try that sometime.

Yes, yes, I'm kidding. I've actually eaten here but I must say that it must have been a total non-event because I couldn't tell you one thing about the food. Boo for that. Yay, though for being a great place to meet up with friends at. If you're looking for drinks, music, and loudness not at a club, try here.

Cheers!

Lets give them what they deserve, which is really 2.5 stars because this place is as average as they come. I have not been here for a couple of years as that was the last time I was able to make it to El Paso to visit my family. Hopefully, I won't have to go back on my upcoming trip there this week, but you never know what people will want to do when everyone gets together. I grew up in NY, but have lived in San Diego for the past six years. I have also been exposed to Mexican food my whole life and have visited areas of Mexico. I have had some amazing homemade Mexican food while in El Paso, and even the orders of tamales that my family tends to pick up from others have been very good. Carlos and Mickey's though, is just another Americanized, sit-down, Tex-Mex type of place that they have all over the country. This one, like some of the ones in SD, tends to have a more authentic menu on paper anyway, but doesn't really deliver in the kitchen.
We tend to order the chile con queso as an appetizer, which I thought was the best thing I tried. I ordered the Carnitas one time, which was a terrible disappointment. They were dry and fried crispy, which I understand is the way that some people make them, but I specifically tried to find out if they would be this type. I prefer the slow cooked, tender moist flavorful carnitas that I get back in SD. These were hard and crispy, nothing enjoyable about them. I have tried the fish, which was decent, but my Tia really seemed to enjoy. Unfortunately, it has been a while, so I don't remember all of the dishes, but I hope to not return, so I probably will never remember them. It says a lot that I can't remember them anyway.
The best things here are probably the margaritas, which i think are the real draw. The fam loves to come and drink the big ones and get nice and toasty. That's why this place is still fun. But overall, I have no desire to go to this place again.

For some reason every time I go to Carlos & Mickey's I think I'm going to like the food.  When will I ever learn?

I am in El Paso for a business trip and I found Los Bandidos Mexican restaurant in a brochure in my hotel room.  I decided to stop by there for dinner and that was probably one of the best Chicken Rellenos I have ever had.  Cheese was gooey and chicken was moist.

After that great meal, the next day I went again for lunch with my coworker.  This time I went with the steak and chicken combo fajitas and this dish was awesome.  Both meats were perfectly cooked, tender, and surprisingly flavorful.  A lot of fajitas I have had in the past were often dry and not satisfying; however, I am craving some more Bandidos fajitas right now.

Only issue I had with the place was their salsa is SPICY.

I was randomly  in El Paso for work last Friday and this place was close to the hotel and rec'd by the front desk for good Mexican food.  I headed over, and it seemed like the place to be - it was hopping!

I was by myself, so I headed to the bar (the wait would have been 45 minutes, so it seemed really smart).  They had a live mariachi band.  It seemed great.  The bar was packed, so I got a drink and hope I could sit down and actually get some food - I was starvin!

After a while I noticed a table was open.  I asked some people nearby if I could sit there, and they were like, I guess so.  A waitress came by and told me that I could NOT sit there.  Mkay.  So, I went back to the bar.  There were seats open, but people were saving them and got real cranky.  I finished my drink and decided it was not meant to be.

Sorry, maybe it was just an off night.  I wanted to spend a good bit of money - I was hungry, and wanted to eat and drink a good bit after a rough week.  Seemed impossible there at that moment.

I'll try and go there again if I'm ever in El Paso, but the whole evening was a bummer.

It seemed to have a very festive atmosphere, and lots of outdoor seating.  Fridays seem tough, I guess you had better make reservations.
