Review from Brad S.
Located slightly off Pat Booker Road along a quasi-street in the middle of a strip mall lies Los Arcos, one of the better Mexican restaurants I've experienced in Universal City.
The Mexican plate I tried was good, but nothing too overwhelmingly exceptional, with an enchilada, tostada, and puffy taco. Props are given to the puffy taco, which was excellently fried and even maintained thorough crispiness despite me ordering it for takeout. They did well in keeping the meat dry and insulating the taco from the rest of the meal via tin foil.
Because they were only a few bucks extra, I ordered a torta with seasoned pork. I was surprised at just how large this sandwich was, with large amounts of spicy tender (but not marinated) pork butt, along with avocado, tomato, and lettuce. The roll was buttered and placed on the flat top for a few minutes, making it slightly toasted. Between the plate lunch and the torta I had way too much food, and I found myself willing to let the plate go to waste. The torta, on the other hand, was going in my belly.
For me, Los Arcos, along with Taco Guadalajara, are the front runners for the best Mexican food in Universal City. -
Review from Brent L.
FANTABULOUS gorditas and al pastor tortas, but the service was bad during our visit, even though they weren't terribly busy. The waitress brought our entrees out and told us that the charro beans would be out in a few minutes - no problem I said. She stopped by a few minutes later to remind us that the beans would be out soon. By this time, I knew we would almost be done eating before the beans were out. With a couple of bites left to finish my torta, the beans arrived with the check. We asked the waitress if we could get the beans to go - I wasn't upset, because the torta was so damned good! :)
So we waited at least five more minutes for the waitress to return with some sort of to go containers, but she never did. The manager (or owner - not sure) noticed that we had been sitting there waiting for a while so he came over and asked if we needed something. I told him we wanted to get the beans to go, and he promptly took our beans and transferred them to "to go" containers and then we paid our bill.
We're looking forward to the charro beans with our homemade dinner tonight - I hope they're good!
OK, so what's the verdict? We will definitely try them again - the food was great and the place was clean. I can deal with poor service every once in a while, but be warned: if I get this type of service every time I visit, I will not become a regular....
