I did A LOT OF RESEARCH before heading out to fix my engagement ring... It has an eternity band and it needed to be made a smaller size...Because of of the type of band I was very skeptical about the jeweler I would trust to do the job. I read soooo Many great comments about Los Angeles, Diamond Factory and Melvin =D Not just in Yelp, but in other wedding websites from other brides/couples, and other jewelry industry websites, and after much time and research I knew this was IT !!
I couldn't be HAPPIER! I am notorious for being SUPER PICKY always noticing the smallest details that most people either miss or dismiss, You look up perfectionist in the dictionary my picture is there --LOL =)))
I have a great sense of humor, and Melvin was the same way, if you are hypersensitive about every passing thing, you can miss interpret this kind of lingo... He knew exactly what my eternity band engagement ring required to keep it from being loose on my finger; he added 2 small gold balls inside the band to help it feel more snug on my finger, which was perfect! because it didn't require cutting the band, where the diamonds would become loose from resizing...
I worked in the jewelry industry for 5 yrs. and I know that some repairmen are will do what you requested, but won't do a clean job.... MY RING WAS PERFECT! and charged me a very reasonable price, very honest man, I wish I would of purchased my engagement ring from Melvin, rather than purchasing my ring from a jeweler in NY; We did get a good price for my ring, but from my visit to this jeweler I could of gotten more for my money here.... oh well...
My sister-in-law loved what he did to my ring, she asked me for his info, I handed my only business card I had of Melvin... Definitely I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place, it's worth the drive to D/T L.A! -

Came here for some casual window shopping. Don't know much about diamonds but I liked everything on display here.
No complaints, didnt buy anything but enjoyed my visit here. I will return once I am an official baller. -

Wow. What a great experience. I am a 3D artist, and I wanted to design my own ring to my own specifications. I had a very short turn around because I needed to fly out of town to propose to my bride to be.
Being an artist myself, I am extremely detail oriented. Basically I am a nightmare customer for any jeweler because I will spot any flaw. Well I have to say, the ring is absolutely flawless. EXACTLY what I wanted, I feel that I received an excellent value for my money, my experience was pleasant and FAST. I got to sit in with their jewelry designer and they processed my design in one hour and had my prototype ready the next day, after approving the prototype the ring was promptly cast, set and finished in a couple of days. I am extremely happy with these guys and will go to them for ALL my jewelry needs.
Cannot say enough good things about these guys, I HIGHLY recommend them for anyone who wants a custom, one of a kind setting and a great value for the money. Thank you Mervyn! -

I went to this place after visiting Eli's, and Mervyn showed us a round brilliant in a cushion shaped halo setting (~$1995). It was beautiful. Unfortunately, Mervyn didn't have any loose diamonds for us to view. That's okay, we understand he can't have everything at once. But he made us feel like it was our fault that he didn't have anything to show us because we didn't make an appointment. His attitude was unnecessary, especially since we went to quite a few places that had the color, clarity, and cut of the diamond we specified (Eli's, IOTR . . . even Diamond Center Inc.)
Even though Mervyn was a little rude, and according to Mike S.'s review, a little scoffing, I don't think it's because he means it. He's just like that. I honestly believe it's just a cultural difference. He reminded me a lot of my old boss, who was Oxford bred and had the same, biting attitude and cynical way about him.
His jeweler's work is beautiful, as his pieces showed, but the rings here aren't unique. His prices are also reasonable, but I could find something similar for cheaper elsewhere (like IOTR or Diamond Center, Inc).Listed in: The Elusive Search for the…

As I am sure most of my male compadres know, buying a diamond can be a nerve racking experience. She has something in mind, you don't have a lot of cash, and you can't compare prices on anything because nothing is comparable!
Mervyn is one of the few down to earth honest dealers in the business. When you first meet him you know you can trust him. When my fiance and I went to him to design a ring and pick out a rock, he worked with us and the designer until it was right and located a beautiful stone to match. When it was all said and done, the ring was perfect and the price even better.
Can't say I could have had a better experience -no pressure, no hostility, and someone who actually listens to what you need and want about what is likely to be one of the bigger purchases in your life.
A+! Looking forward to having enough money one day to buy other things for my wife to be!

I was kind of skeptical about shopping for wedding rings in the jewelry district of downtown LA - I'm not from around here, so for all I know, these jewelers could be selling me 25 cent trinkets marked up 1000%. The reviews for this jeweler online, however (in addition to the pricetags on similar rings in WeHo), were enough to convince me to give it a try.
The result? My husband and I had the best experience buying our wedding bands with Mervyn. He was welcoming, friendly, patient, and took his time explaining the process and helping us choose the perfect bands. His was the first shop we stopped in and the only. Not only did he make this part of the marriage/wedding planning process that much easier, but he saved me a LOT of money.

They're the best. Seriously. I showed them my engagement ring, and I told them what I was going for, and they had pieces that were close, but not quite perfect. The problems with my wedding band search were a) my engagement ring isn't your typical, smooth ring, and therefore difficult to compliment, and b) I didn't know exactly what I wanted. I know what I like, and I know what I don't like, but I didn't have an image in my head that they could just copy. This led to me feeling overwhelmed and uncomfortable speaking up at all the places we checked out beforehand. They even looked at my engagement ring and suggested designing (I'm not sure what the actual term is, but it's hollowed out so it's more delicate) the sides of the wedding band to compliment it, which was a beautiful touch. We were able to customize and blend styles to magically create a perfect piece to compliment both my personality and unconventional engagement ring. At first, I wasn't 100% in love with the custom piece (believe me, it was beautiful, but again, Mrs. Picky over here), but they assured me that we would tweak it until I was in love. They listened to what I didn't love and what I thought it was missing, and guess what? When I came back, it was absolutely perfect.

The first time I met Mervyn was a few weeks ago. I accompanied my girlfriend, Stacey, to get her ring re-adjusted. Mervyn was quite literally, a GEM (no pun intended). He was personable, generous and a gentleman. Although I did not purchase a piece of jewelry from LA Diamond Factory, I am confident enough to say that I would love to make all future jewelry purchases here. What a great family-run business! My fiance bought my engagement ring through Mervyn, from what i know he did his research and went to Mervyn with ideas of what he imagined as "the ring", Mervyn walked him through the whole process of making the ring and was extremely helpful. During his proposal, I was speechless when he opened that box, one look at it, I knew this was something I would love FOREVER, it exceeded anything i could've possibly imagine, and i'm quite picky. I was so excited and stuck out the wrong hand. I didn't even realize it until later that night. The ring was beautiful, although it turned out to be one whole size to big, so I went to Mervyn to get it resized, he was extremely nice and had it done quite quickly.

Jay and I just got back from the LA Diamond Factory were we selected our wedding bands. Once again, what a wonderful feeling that we walked away with, knowing that Mervyn is making our rings to our specification. HOLY COW! Who said buying a diamond isn't easy for diamond dummies?!?!?! I happened upon Mervyn's business through some LA diamond district research on Google. Not only did reviewers on Google boast about him and his business, but so did you Yelpers. So...thought I'd give him a try. He was the last guy we went to. We even took a diamond expert with us who works for a major name brand jeweler. Not only did he give us the BESTEST prices and quality without letting him know that we had been shopping and planning on buying at another place that starts with "I" and ends with "S" nearby who boasts best prices and quality (and BTW Mervyn beats them at both), he was HONEST and charming! He does not use pressure to sell; you will pressure yourself when you see what he has to offer! We stayed in budget and both the bride and groom are very very happy! He also buys jewelry too! If you don't visit Mervyn and family at Los Angeles Diamond Factory, you're missing out! He's gained a new customer for life.
