loop is the best yarn / knitting shop in philadelphia....and it's not because the other shops don't carry beautiful yarn + decent supplies. loop is simply the most pleasant place to shop -- the owner + staff are extremely friendly + non-judgmental. other shops can be a bit overbearing at times + you feel imposing knocking about their tiny digs.

loop is a gorgeous, open, airy + clean space, loaded with gorgeous yarns that are extremely hard to resist.

Holy mother of god, I wish I had 50 arms so I could squeeze and touch all of the luscious wads of yarn all over this place. Loop is an amazing cornucopia of fibers waiting for you to knit it up into something awesome.

There are plenty of other yarn stores in the city, but loop really takes the cake. A lot of the yarn is priced at least 9 dollars and up a ball, but it's so worth it because it just really feels nice once you're done making something.

I love the stores minimal white interiors with all of the colors of yarn running along the two walls. They staff is also super nice, and offered to wind the yarn into a ball for me for free which I haven't had happen at any other lys yet.

I need to update my review, because I haven't been to Loop since last winter, and I am fantasizing about it.

Honestly, as much as I hate how pricey the yarns are, I have to say this store is the stuff yarn dreams are made of. I saw a scarf the other day in a store, and it started the annual "OMG it's that time of year where it's chilly so I want to crochet nonstop while watching football and eating apples." And Loop has been in my brain ever since. I cannot wait to go in there and molest all of the beautifully-colored yarns.

The staff is so pleasant and helpful, the yarn selection is great, and they offer very affordable classes to help you if you're new to the hobby. Definitely a great vibe in there, a beautiful shop and well organized.

In center city it's Loop or Rosie's, and I am voting LOOP all the way.  A few weeks ago, I embarked on an emergency mission for high quality yarn in a very tight time frame.  Off I walked to Rosie's.  We all know how dark it is in this basement property, so I'll skip that part.  Two employees on the floor.  One was not very interested in answering my questions.  The other answered my questions to the best of her ability and in a friendly way.  Meh.

At LOOP, there were also two employees on the floor.  The guy answered all the questions I asked him, predicted more questions before I asked them, and offered additional opinions that I valued very much.  He was completely knowledgeable and affable, which impressed me a lot.  The store is spacious, inviting, and brightly lit.  The best part of all is the rack of large sample pieces showing how various yarn types appear and feel when they are worked up.  This is SO important and helpful to me when I'm looking for a yarn.  If I have a project in mind, I'm envisioning the final product and I find it very difficult to translate that into how my ideal yarn would look as a skein.  Love love love seeing the sample pieces.  Thank you Loop!

The selection of bulky and super bulky was definitely lacking, so unfortunately I couldn't make my purchase there.  But I had a lovely time and will head back for more as soon the opportunity arises.  I promise.

Loop's stark white gallery-like space is the perfect backdrop for the vibrant colors of hand-painted or dyed skeins of alpaca, wool, silk, organic cotton, bamboo, etc. The bright atmosphere makes it easier to get an accurate reading of color and the many knitted garments and square samples allow you to better visualize how the yarn will whip up in a finished piece! The yarn-obsessed will love browsing this little shop.

And for those new to knitting or just stuck mid-project, their expert staff is really helpful and the classes offered are excellent. I took the Beginner Knitting class with Elizabeth a little over a year ago, and followed up with Toe-up socks and an additional hat knitting course to get comfortable knitting in the round. Everyone there is really encouraging and the patterns used prepare you to tackle a lot on your own. It's only been a short while and I'm already tackling sweaters and mittens and berets, oh my! I highly recommend stopping by to peruse the merch and perhaps select a course. If you do, make sure to check out some of the highlights: Rustic Silk by Hand Jive and Alpaca Silk by Blue Sky Alpacas.

I took a beginner's knitting class this past winter. It was great fun and the teachers/staff were very friendly and helpful. They were patient and gave one-on-one attention when it was needed. They offer different classes and workshops year round for reasonable prices.
As for the store - they have a nice selection of yarn and accessories. The shop is organized beautifully and is just a pleasure to browse.

I love Loop!  I just finished up an intro knitting class with Kathy H. and couldn't be more pleased.  I feel confident in my burgeoning knitting skills thanks to her.  She was incredibly patient  and nice about explaining things multiple times without sounding condescending.  The other staff I have encountered have been super friendly, too, so I'll feel okay about going in if I run into a problem with any future projects.  I have already signed up for another class and will probably take several more.

The store itself is bright and open, modern yet still homey, a great space for the new generation of urban knitters.  As I am still a novice, I'm pretty easily impressed with any place that has a selection that doesn't include Red Heart, but the colors and variety provide a lovely feast for the eyes, enough to make me part with a lot of cash.

They have a lot of specialized classes, which is great, but I would like to see a general knitting class as the next step after the intro.

Also, perfect location!  Accessible to the fashionable Rittenhouse set and the lower-budget South Graduate Hospital Crowd like myself.

Loop is pretty awesome. There are hundreds of yarns to choose from, and i think that it is the most visually appealing yarn store in the city. Their yarns are luscious, high-end, and most important, they feel lovely. No less than the best here. Which is great, especially when things go on sale. There is always a well-stocked sale bin the back, but to be honest, for the quality, the prices at loop are not horrible. Good yarn is a little pricey, but inflation at loop is kept to a minimum, which is most appreciated by all.

My only criticism of the store, and the reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5, is that there is no basic, everyday yarn sold there. While i appreciate the best, my baby clothes are not going to be made of the most luxurious yarn that money can buy. No, for more basic yarns, visit one of the other yarn institutions in the city, but for the cream of the crop, go to loop.

An amazing yarn store. Truly. But my nature means I always gravitate to the crazy expensive stuff - which is most of the stuff in the store. Plus, this isn't really the cozy, friendly atmosphere I love in my yarn stores. Gold star for not being crazy crowded and cramped, though.

I know that the whole point of the Christmas season is to give to others, but after shopping and doing for so many others, I had to treat myself to a little something. What better present to myself than yards of tussah silk from Hand Jive Knits? Once again, Craig has introduced me to yet another wonderful product. I can always find something new and luscious in the yarn market at Loop and I'm consistently impressed with the new inventory that Craig continues to bring in throughout the year. I'm now happily clicking my needles and finishing off a pair of silk arm warmers and recovering from the holiday madness.

A lovely store - nice atmosphere, friendly staff, beautiful yarn, sleek and modern layout. I don't think it has as wide a selection as Rosie's, but still plenty to ooh and ahh over. The sock yarn is especially tempting. Most of the yarns are a bit pricey and high-end, though. If you want to treat yourself to something fancy and luxurious, Loop can definitely accomodate that desire.

I took a basic sock-knitting class here (I'm a beginner knitter) and I can't recommend it. The instructor didn't explain things very well and wasn't particularly helpful in demonstrating techniques, either. She was also a bit unintentionally patronizing ("Oh, the magic loop so easy, why don't you guys get it?"), which isn't super-encouraging when you've got a ton of yarn strung on a long needle and you have no idea which way is up, or right-side/wrong-side if you're a knitter.

The cost of the class was $35 for 3 sessions, which was pretty reasonable, except that I also spent an additional $25 on materials (which were enough for only 1 sock!) And the instructor kept insisting it   was a "throwaway sock", which made me wonder - why did I spend $60 and several hours for something to throw away?? Plus the pattern we were working on was pretty horrible and I don't think I'd use it again, even if my next sock wasn't a throwaway.

The store itself is slick and offers a nice selection of high-end yarns.

I haven't bought yarn here yet, but the space is beautiful. It's large, there are couches and the people leave you be until you have questions about how many different colors the yarn comes in, or something.

A lot of my friends have caught the knitting rash... and yarn and its vast possibility of color rivals crack in 1986. Barely able to tie my shoes, I come along for the ride quite often.

I must say that Loop is one of the most meticulously kept stores in Philadelphia. Though it's location suffers a bit to the competition, for outsiders, you'll have a much better chance of parking here than there. The layout, which is very carefully done to visuals, is amazing. I've never seen color, even in the wildest graffiti, that I see in the yarn here.

When I've come in alone to buy gift cards, very helpful staff... who always encourages me to pick up some sticks. It hasn't happened yet, but I'll spread the word on Loop's behalf.

I would love nothing more than to go into Loop with $500 and walk out with yarn galore! I am what I would consider to be an intermediate-level knitter and Loop makes me want to learn all there is to know about knitting just so I can play with all of the different kinds of yarn that they sell. Also, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Once, I couldn't find a pair of size 3.5 needles and the woman went into the back of the store just to find them for me. They also normally have two big bargain bins of yarn in the back if you love stuff on sale as much as I do.

This yarn store is cute enough and seems well stocked, but they've been out of the yarn I needed for a project the last 3 times I went in.  It's nice to have a place like this in my neighborhood and there always seems to be some sort of class or tutorial going on but, I ended up going to Rosie's instead.

Loop has a great selection of high quality yarns, knitting supplies and books.  I come here for sock yarns and to drool over their selection of Mal Abrigo and Sauveterre.  The employees are always friendly and helpful, and they'll even wind your yarn for you if you're nice.

This store makes me wish I could knit, or crochet.  I went in for work one day...and saw these magnificent scarves...and wanted to purchase one...but was informed that they are only there as examples of what you can do.  This place only sells the yarn.  :(  Well they do have quite the selection of scarves...but maybe they could offer up some lessons for those of us who'd try to learn.
