10 reviews for Long's Bakery Inc
This place is tremendous. If I were to rank my favorite donut places in order I would go:
1) Long's Bakery
2) Square Donuts (Bloomington, IN)
3) Krispy Kreme
4) Hilligoss Bakery (Brownsburg, IN)
5) Dunkin Donuts
You can get them warm and they taste soooooo good! Half the time I just get yeast because the plain donuts are that good. It is not in a great part of town, but the people that work there have ALWAYS been courteous and fun.
You don't have to love donuts to love Long's Bakery. You just need a mouth. This small local bakery has mastered the art of the donut. Once you've had one, the mere mention of their name causes salivation.
Randomly featured on a History Channel special on Anthropology - Long's Bakery is the epitome of donut culture.
MMMM.... Donuts!
You have not had a donut until you have had the perfection that is a warm longs glazed yeast donut. No chocolate frosting, no filling, none of that is needed. Krispy Creme? KC can't hold a candle to it. Trust me, cars line up outside this place to get the fresh batch in the morning and all day for that matter.
What people from New Orleans say about their beignets, we put our Long's donuts up against them any day!
PS: Neighborhood is one of the worst in Indy, but everyone there is in donut trance so no one bothers you.
I'm not a super huge donut fan, so I'm probably not the person to be listening to when it comes to donuts. I prefer mine with less glaze than the average person, so most donuts are just far too sweet for me to enjoy.
That said, this place is pretty decent. Stopped in this morning as I'd been craving donuts for a couple days, and two unrelated people had recommended Long's to me.
First off, you know the place has to be good by the sheer number of people there at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. I heard one woman say she'd driven all the way from Kokomo. Okay that's a little extreme.
The wait wasn't too bad, maybe 5-10 minutes even though there were probably 12 people ahead of us in line.
The place is still cash only. We got 7 donuts (including one bear claw which is the size of a small car) and 2 milks for $6.75. The yeast ones are pretty damned good - especially because they were STILL WARM when we got them.
I guess this place has been around since the 50s for good reason!
i dream of these in the night, even if i go late, the day old ones Refresh in the microwave
PLEASE TAKE DEBIT/CREDIT cards
it's too dark & scary to drag over to that gas station
maybe a security guard wouldn't be a bad idea?
I'm not a donut fan, but jesus effing christ the yeast donut at Long's makes me melt. Seriously, what kind of drugs are they putting in them that make them so god damn addictive? If I remember right, no credit cards, but who cares.......once you have a yeast donut you forget your own name.
The donuts here are really good, i've only been 3 or 4 times but it was great. The brownies and yeast donuts are good. They have these really good peanut butter brownies. The only bad thing I can think of about this place is they don't have a very big selection of donuts.
Here in california when you go to a donut spot, or bakery you'll see rows and rows of all kinds of stuff, but at Long's they stick to what they do best I guess.
Im TOLD, by people in indianapolis that this bakery is located in a really bad neighborhood, but I don't think so. It looked poor but I didnt feel unsafe or anything. The front door on this bakery is like a federal bank safe. It's the thickest heaviest door in the world, and when you walk through all you see is brownies.... thats hilarious.
Long's is an Indianapolis legend. Their yeast donuts are to-die-for. Longs are such a tradition, and are so unique that many of my friends can identify them on sight.
As the previous reviewer mentioned they don't have much selection. I also recommend the cinammon "fritters", not quite sure what they're called.
The biggest caveat here is that they are CASH ONLY, so make sure to take the green when you go.
The neighborhood is a little rough by Indianapolis standards, but during the day it's no problem.
Close to the perfect doughnut!
You will not find a better yeast doughnut in the world.
