West Jordan, UT
Very solid Chinese food. I'm not a vegetarian but I came here with a vegan friend on his recommend and I was pretty blown away.
I had driven by this place many times, I never really had the desire to try out the restaurant as the outside is pretty dilapidated. The inside is about as impressive as the exterior. It's clean and orderly, which is a good thing, but the furniture is quite mundane. Like the kind of stuff you would buy on the cheap when a restaurant supply company goes out of business or second hand furniture you would find on ksl classifieds. The wall art work was tacky, yet oddly pleasing, Chinese watercolor print replicas. There were also the standard-issue, kitschy, hanging lanterns. And of course, the happy Chinese music playing in the background and the obligatory fish tank with unnaturally large fish. However, the table clothes were Marylin Monroe print which I found extremely out of place and humorous.
The food is where this place really shines. I ordered the spicy "chicken" and vegetables and my buddy got the spicy "beef." Of course their chicken and beef is not real meat at all but a soy-based tofu which tasted very little like their real counterparts, but they were EXTREMELY flavorful in their own right. The amount of food you get for as little as you pay is amazing. For 5 bucks you get any of the lunch specials which includes: soup, a crispy spring roll, a large serving of brown rice (bonus points for using brown) and the main entree. They also have fried complimentary wonton appetizers which you dip in a sweet and spicy mustard sauce.
Our waitress was on the ball. She was friendly, attentive - but not overly so, kept our drinks filled, and spoke excellent English. The soda tasted great as well. Very bubbly and flavorful... nothing watered down (which is a pet peeve of mine, I believe watered down or flat soda is a sign of ineptitude or cheapness)
This place is certainly a treasure. I will be back here, perhaps even weekly. I am very grateful I was introduced to the Long Life Veggie House. For a place that is typically empty all of the time and which serves such extremely fresh, delicious food at such a ridiculously low price, it is a wonder they have managed to stay open all of these years. My friend has a theory (of course he was joking... or was he?) that this restaurant could be a money laundering front. Whether it is or isn't, the food here is top notch. -

Long Life needs to step up their game. The food is as bland as Evergreen, only greasier and fishier smelling. How is that possible at something called "Vegi House?" When I was a youngling, I loved this place. I had such fond memories when I returned twenty years later. I had bragged this place up to one of my meat-eating friends, who was actually excited to try it. Oh why did you fail me?
Do I have to just always bring people to the Blue Plate Diner or what??? I could swear I tasted some MSG in my food, which would really, really bother me if that suspicion is ever confirmed.
Otherwise, it was as friendly as it ever was and the tea was just as yummy and made me feel just as cozy as I always did. So long ago. -

We tried this establishment because of these reviews. We enjoyed the green bean soup, but the eggplant was awful. I also got vegi-chow mein and was able to eat it only to the extreme hunger I was experiencing. My wife thought the chow mein tasted burnt. The lady did give me a discount on the eggplant and the service was good. Something must have changed because our food was not very good.

Well, I used to enjoy eating here, but last night, the food was too greasy, too sweet, and just plain old boring. Plus I woke up with puffy eyes, a sure sign that there is MSG in the food.
The garlic sauce was way too sugary. The sauce on the broccoli and mushrooms was bland. And the asparagus, well, they left the woody bottoms on it and at least 1/3 of the asparagus was inedible.
It has new management and I guess they just don't know about healthy food. Sure wish the old crew was there still. ALSO, REALLY IMPORTANT, the A/C smells stale and moldy. Ob-La-Di. -

I love this place! I've frequented Long Life Vegi House for years now, but they have recently changed management. The food is the same deliciousness that it has always been but the decor changed a bit... that's the only difference I can really see.
The last few times I have gone for lunch or dinner, we were the only customers!! This blows my mind. Their food is amazing and cheap and prepared fresh and fast. Why aren't more people hitting this place up?
They have a vegan menu, vegetarian menu and some seafood options.
The waitress is really on it. Filling up water and soda before its even empty, asking if we want more rice... Really great service.
I LOVE their Lemon "Chicken"... by far my favorite option on the menu.
Check this place out. It's fantastic. -

Super nice staff and the food was decent. My kids absolutely loved it, while us adults were just kinda whatever about some of it. It was good, but not spectacular and I actually think that the 'fake beef' in the beef deluxe, while looking remarkably authentic, tasted really nasty. The veggies and sauce in that dish were amazing, however and were great spooned over rice.
All of the faux chicken tasted great and had an appealing texture. We had the lemon chicken and chicken chow mein. It was gobbled up quickly.
Every dish had loads of fresh and tasty vegetables and a lot of very flavorful mushrooms. Some of the mushrooms I had never even seen before. They imparted a lot of flavor in the dishes and we didn't miss meat at all.
I ordered barbecue tofu because I love, love, love that dish elsewhere, but this was different. Usually it has a little bit of a general tso flavor in the sauce, but this was more of a light, salty, vinegary flavor. The tofu was cut and prepared in the same way and with the same veggies, just a completely different sauce than I am used to. It was good, though.
I would go back and try out some other dishes for sure. I'd like to give their seafood specialties a try, too. The woman working there when I went to order takeout was incredibly nice and we had no problems communicating.Listed in: Asian Spots I Love

I thought this place was great. I'm a meat eater and I came away totally impressed. I got the chicken with broccoli and my girl got the lemon chicken and both were incredibly flavorful and were large portions that left us stuffed beyond belief. And the service was FANTASTIC. The food was done and brought out mere minutes after we ordered and it was all steaming hot and delicious.
Surprisingly there weren't many people there and I think that's a shame because though the building looks a bit run down, these guys are well worth the trip out to get some great veggie Chinese food.
I'll definitely be back on my next trip to SLC. -

Fresh vegetables, wide variety of protein, powerful flavors, spice, but low on atmosphere and creature comforts (like localized air conditioning). The staff, I have found, has always been hospitable and cheery - just don't expect blazing fast service. A recent visit was rddled with smiles, slow with the water.
The food is quality, make no mistake of it, but its not going to knock the socks off of your carnivorous friends enough for them to proclaim great revelations of the vegetarian life style. The tastes however will satisfy any lover of Asian cuisine, not to mention a more than robust thought-inducing menu - you will have vast options.
The establishment itself is dark and dreary, at best. I typically like lowly-lighten digs, but the Long Life Vegi House is not one I care for - the light almost seems to be a low... hum of orange. Luckily, no one there seemed to be in spectacle discomfort. The food alleviates such trivial matters of space and time.
It's healthy eating, you can hardly go wrong. I would recommend this place simply for that fact alone; but the sweetness, the expanse, textures, and above all, portion size to price ratio are just right. This place is worth going back to every month or two for the curiousness of all their offerings alone. -

This place is really not that good. I think it earns high marks because the vegetarians are so excited to have a place of their own.
What this restaurant really is a place that serves greasy Chinese food with no meat. All of the seafood is real seafood. It was no better than any of the other thousands of local greasy spoon Chinese joints spread throughout this great land.
This place has zero curb appeal and walking in you get the sense that it is pretty run down. The interior is quite dilapidated.
The staff is quite friendly although a few of them don't speak a word of English. Which can make ordering a challenge if there are no other waiters around to help out.
I think this place is not worth it. Lots of other Chinese restaurants in the are all which will let you order your dish vegetarian style. -

This is a reliable place - you can rely on them to serve you tasty food at a great price.
They have a couple of problems: terrible decor. Like, really distracting and ugly. They can't serve some things hot: like tea, soup. Have to send those back from time to time.
Otherwise, it's totally worth it and a lot of fun to get the fake meats and they taste like ... good. Their menu is complete. -

I just didnt think that this place was that great.. sure it was vegetarian.. but it lacked interesting textures.
The overall flavor was good, and the atmosphere was sparse.. -

As a vegetarian, this place is awesome, it's one of the only places that serves soy chicken, pork and beef. And it's all delicious! They also do seafood so my wife loves it too. And when you go in, the food is in front of you in minutes, literally minutes. We ordered the cream cheese wontons and it was in front of us in about 2 minutes and perfectly cooked. The portions are huge and you should have enough to take home afterwards.

O.K. I know it has been over 10 or so years since I have even eaten, here, so not sure if it is even the same, Hence the 4 rating, I would normally give this place a ten, I still crave the sweet and sour pork from this place.
I sit around sometimes contemplating going back to Utah just to eat here, my taste buds telling me do it do it, then my common sense telling me YOU HATE UTAH why go back...
one day I must make it happen though.
unless anyone else out there knows if this place sucks now or what??? -

I love this place. The servers are so friendly too.
I love the Egg Foo Yong and about anything in the black bean sauce is stellar. My favorite vegetarian restaurant. -

I consider this the best chinese food option on 33d South. Everything is flavorful and definitely worth your dollar. I've always had a great service experience when getting the food to go (never dined in).

When I was 15 and became a vegetarian (a mere 24 years ago), this was the first vegetarian restaurant I discovered. I ate at this place regularly for many, many years. Favorite dishes are the hot and sour soup, mao po tofu, tofu w/ spicy garlic sauce, kung pow chicken, and pot stickers. It seems that the hot and sour soup and the pot stickers while still good are not as delectable as they once were. Don't know if it's me that changed or Long Life that has changed. But, I still like to eat here about once every 2 - 3 months. Definitely worth going for the lunch specials as you get soup, a veg egg roll, and your choice of one of about a dozen of their entrees. Last time I was there, I think that the lunch specials were still $5.95 (might have been $6.95, but still a bargain.)

A very under appreciated place because of the run down location, but I just keep coming back for the spring rolls and sweet and sour (non)pork. Lucky that it is a convenient location for take out.

I had to laugh at the people who said this place has friendly servers; I have been eating here for years and it is definitely NOT for the service! The place is on 33rd which is a bit of a nightmare, and the building is sort of a dump, but it is oh so tasty (and incredibly cheap)! Everything here is vegetarian with the exception of a few fish dishes (and lots of vegan options if you care about that sort of thing). My favorite things to get here are the spicy garlic eggplant (which I dream about sometimes), veggie pot-stickers, won ton soup, sweet and sour pork, treasure of eight, and anything with their black bean sauce. Long live the long life vegi house!

a few years ago i found myself as pretty much the only meat eater in a pack of vegetarians. as a result of this i was dragged into long life vegi house.
now everyone eats meat again but we still go here on a regular basis. the hot and sour soup? nothing short of amazing. as an appetizer spring rolls are crispy, hot and delicious.
as for the entrees, for a long time i ordered the vegetarian chicken and broccoli religiously. every time i go in i still feel an impulse to order it, but i've been trying to broaden my horizons.
the last entree i had? the vegetarian chicken lo mein. it was pretty greasy but it was incredibly flavorful. why i had never looked at the back of the menu and ordered it before is something i will never quite understand.
long life also serves seafood, if you're into that (i'm not). -

Probably one of my top 5 restaurants ever. Tiny little house in Holladay, Utah, but SO GOOD. Vegetarian heaven! They have the best hot and sour soup and the lunch special is a crazy good deal! I also found out they have one in Berkeley, CA so now that I live in San Francisco, I can still get my fix!

The service here will stop at nothing to ensure your satisfaction. Everything on the menu is fabulous. I recommend the spicy garlic sauce string bean and "chicken" with brown rice, something first recommended to me by the server the first time I checked this place out. I was BLOWN AWAY. I also issue the challenge to get takeout here and feed it to meat eaters and see if they notice. I hear the seafood they offer is very excellent as well.

Long LIfe and Shanghai...oh, those crazy days of DV8 and Playschool, right?...god, i'm old. But I digress. Long Life has been around forever and if you haven't eaten here, you really should. Why? Because of the Green Bean Ball Soup. And Lemon Chicken....and Potstickers. And anything with the Black Bean Sauce. Look at it this way- it's cheap, so if you don't like it, you're not out much. But if you love it (which you will), you will be as happy as the eggroll is greazy.

I have been going to Long Life Vegi House for ten years and I have never been disappointed. I am always excited as I walk in the door because I know I am about to experience something real special. I usually get the "chicken" in garlic sauce with green beans and brown rice. I always order green tea, there is something about that combination that is so satisfying. I have eaten the potstickers, the kung pao "chicken and the walnut shrimp. All very very delicious. The staff is friendly and accommodating. This place isn't much to look at and it isn't just for vegetarians. Try it for something different than the mainstream fare.
