3 reviews for Long Island Marriott Hotel
Average conference-focused hotel that, based on the cost of all the extras, is clearly designed with business travelers & their expense budgets in mind. Prepare to pay extra for everything. Review not in depth enough for you? Here's the complaint letter I sent when we got back:
my wife & I spent the last two nights (4/13 & 4/14) at the Long Island Marriot in Uniondale. I can't begin to tell you how dissappointed we were with the experience. Before I get started, I'd like to point out that the staff was great. They seemed genuinely concerned with our problem, it was just too late to do anything.
We checked in late friday night and immediately found random garbage near the TV & the breakfast menu had already been filled out. After I brought it to her attention, the desk attendant gave me two coupons for free Starbucks, which was a fair and kind gesture. Worse than the garbage, the heat in the room was BLASTING. It was set to 72' but it felt more like 92'. We immediately turned it down to 50, but we spent the night sweaty & uncomfortable, tossing & turning. We had to take showers at 3:30am just to cool off. Needless to say, we were miserable the entire next day, which just happened to be my cousin's wedding.
We figured the cause of our problem was the fact that heat was going all day when we checked in. So, when we left the room the next morning (sat 4/14), we turned the thermostat off entirely. When we got back later that night, I turned it all the way down to 31' but it didn't make a difference. We still spent the night sweating & tossing & turning. Again we had to shower at 3:30am to cool off.
When I checked out Sunday morning, I brought the issue to the attention of the desk attendant. While she was quite upset for my experience, she did explain that they knew it was a problem with the room since it was close to the heated room. She said they've had complaints before, but there's nothing they could've done.
Unfortunately, I disagree. The hotel knew this was an ongoing issue and had even gotten complaints about this particular block of rooms and . They continued to place guests in those rooms knowing full well that those guests would have to endure sleeping in a sauna. Because of the wretched sleep we got, my wife & I had a horrible weekend and couldn't stay awake at my cousin's wedding. I expect the full cost of my stay $288 to be refunded to me.
EDIT: So, I just heard back. They gave me the run around and double talk and all they'd do was pony up $50. Apparently, that's all I'm worth as a customer, $50.

I finally had the chance to stay here overnight and was very disappointed. No free internet in the room and a fire alarm that went off at 5am. Greaaaaatt.

This place blows. There is no "generica" around to speak of...so if you like overpriced sports bar food inside the hotel area, you're in luck. It was going through a renovation while I was there [3/26/08], but I don't think it's gonna help much. My suggestion is to look around a bit. This wasn't the worst place I've ever stayed...but it's quickly on it's way.
