Long Beach, CA
Got to tell you, as much as I love seafood, this is by far my favorite seafood restaurant in Long Beach! I have tried every fish they have on special on any given day and it is all great! I have tasted all the seasonings but I prefer garlic butter.
I don't drink alcohol but the lemon /cucumber flavored water is so refreshing. But, if a soft drink is what you want, they serve fountain drinks as well as some specialty soft drinks. Make sure you try the Bundaberg's Ginger Beer or other flavors!
Mac, Angela, George , and Steve are so cool and great to chat with! I am always impressed when they remember my name or recognize my voice when I call in my order. Because I know what I like, the only thng they have to guess at is what fish I want that day, the rest is easy! They even took my advice and went out and supplied the restaurant with the Bundaberg's Ginger Beer! Nice move! -

clam chowder was good and fresh, i'd give that a 4!
i got the fried platter that had shrimp, fish and scallops...it was pretty good but not great...i'd give those a 3. the plate came with large, generous portions of fish and fries. i didn't finish the fries because i was stuffed from everything else. the order didn't come with lemon wedges, but it came with pretty good tartar.
cole slaw (a side) was good as well.
you won't be disappointed by this place, they do good and the workers are customer-friendly. the space is clean and it's obvious that the management keeps it well-maintained. as a person who really loves fish n chips with tartar (i rarely find a place that i'd return to, my favorite place is in morrow bay), i will be trying out other places in this area when i have the inkling for a tender, juicy, and well-breaded, golden crispy fried hunk of cod. -

This is one of, if not my favorite, places to eat. I love everything that is on the menu. I started coming here when they first opened a few years back, my sister lived nearby and I stumbled upon them on the way to her house. I am very happy I did. I have cravings for this place and drive 45 minutes just to eat here. I bring everyone I know here and there has not been a single person that was not overtly impressed. I even have friends from Michigan who stop by the second they fly in for business.
ANYTHING on the menu is delicious. Garlic Butter Swordfish is one of my favorites. One thing you will always have to try is the portebello mushroom. It is a whole mushroom grilled with a little bit of pepper and balsamic vinegar. Simple, yet perfect in so many ways! I cannot stress how much I love this place. -

My fiance and I were craving some good fish tacos and decided on coming to this spot for a try. What an amazing decision we made. We ordered 4 different types of tacos: salmon, mahi, shrimp, and white fish tacos. The fish tacos we ordered all consisted of grilled fish but we got the breaded shrimp bc it was recommended. You can tell the tacos are fantastic when you take the first bite. The fish was slightly crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside. The tacos were also full flavored and not over seasoned like other places we have been to. You can tell that the owners know how to do seafood and that the fish would taste fantastic even without the taco shells or salsa. Our favorite was the salmon tacos. They they were so good that we asked the owners about catering. I can't speak for any of the other dishes but if the tacos were any indication, you will not be disappointed. We highly recommend this place for its great food, friendly service and great value.

Long Beach Fish Grill is a great option for a delicious fish dinner at a good price. They have many different fish to choose from like Salmon, Snapper, Ahi, Mahi Mahi, Catfish, Halibut etc.. You can then have them prepared several different ways, my favorite being the garlic butter but cajun is also a great option if you like it a bit spicier. If you like fried fish, you can get shrimp, scallops or catfish prepared that way. The plates come with coleslaw and bread. And you can order really tasty sides like grilled zucchini and asparagus. I also love that you can substitute brown rice with your meal instead of the regular rice or fries. They also serve beer and wine.
The restaurant is fairly small, but they have an outside patio you can sit on when the weather is good. The people are very friendly and the service is great. Very clean and they cook the food within view. The only reason I didn't give a 5th star is because the food is served on styrofoam plates with plastic forks and knives.. not quite as enjoyable or green as I would like. -

I work in Long Beach and like to eat fish regularly.
The Long Beach Fish Grill is where I go most often.
Some places are good some of the time.
LBFG is great all the time every time.
Staff are friendly and remember my name.
You can't go wrong with fried or grilled fish or tacos.
The grilled salmon cajun style is outstanding.
The fried fish was always good, but recently seemed improved.
The slaw is very good.
After many trips I've yet to be disappointed.
Well done, Mac, Angela, Steven, George, and gang!!! -

I love this Fish Grill. You really can't go wrong with grilled fish but this place prepares it especially well. I usually order the snapper which, sadly, they were out of. The Catfish was just as good and blackened with garlic sauce too! So tasty and flavorful! That garlic sauce is a secret weapon. Add on grilled zucchini for a $1 more. The garlic toast is a nice little bonus too.
I'd come back here again for the food and the pleasant and helpful customer service. -

We decided to finally stop by and have a taste of what they had to offer and we are sure glad we did!
First, we are giving them a 4 star just because we only had a limited selection of what they offered but what we had was super delicious. We will, of course, come back soon and try more of their menu.
The location, not the best, but when you get inside, it is clean, slightly modern and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They have a nice beverage selection and menu will let you know what is farm raised or wild caught and if things are out of season. The food is fresh, well prepared, tasty and very large portions. The soup is freshly made and very good as well.
We had the basic fish (cod) and chips with fried shrimp and a cup of the clam chowder... all delicious. That shrimp was especially tasty. They offer condiments such as sweet chilli dipping sauce, various hot sauces, just about anything you could want at a fish place.
It is simple- We will back soon...possibly tonight, since they are having a cupcake wars contestant set up a cupcake stand from 6-9pm...

Okay, I've been meaning to write a review for this place for quite some time now and sadly never got to it due to my procrastination. But, no need to fear, because the following is my review.
So, the reason I found this place was because I was with my cousin one day and she took me to this place around her area that served fish. At first, I was a bit hesitant to go because I like fish, but not all the time. Needless to say, I very much enjoyed it and after a few days of not having the fish, I kept craving more fish but realize there wasn't any fish place around my area to go to :[
Luckily, I found....Long Beach Fish Grill. After using the assistance of Google Maps, I was able to find the place. An interesting location I might add. But, once I walked in through the doors, it seemed like a very welcoming and comfortable place to be. Firstly, there is a huge TV so I was able to easily kill time by watching TV. In addition, there are also a collection of imported bottled drinks up on the wall. Real cool. The first thing I ordered was the Salmon with Cajun seasoning. It came with Cole slaw, a piece of bread, brown rice (they have it as an option), and of course the fish. It was really good. Nice and moist, flaky, just the way I like it. Although, I do have to admit that the Cajun was a little too spicy for me. If you don't like spicy, go with the garlic!
I have declared this place my new fish place. Finally, a nice fish place that has what I want. Quite good, I have to say. I've recommended it to my friends to go to. It's definitely worth a try. They have a wide selection of fish to choose from. One thing that I keep noticing constantly whenever I come in, is that they are always out of the fried tilapia. Apparently, it's the most popular thing on their menu. I might have to try it next time I go. I wasn't too pleased with the prices. I've gone to a few other fish places in different areas and it was much cheaper. But, other than that, If you are looking for a nice fish place to go to that has a wide selection of fish, then Long Beach Fish Grill is the way tot go!
Getting there can be quite tricky, so plan ahead and utilize Google Maps street view so you can get familiar with the location. -

Been back to Long Beach Fish Grill about once a month since the first review and have never been disappointed. Usually in for a late lunch or early dinner.
Fish Sandwich is excellent, and the fish tacos really hit the spot. The fish and chips are a full meal with three nice pieces of fish and a handfull of fries.
The staff is always friendly.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Small menu, good food but 20% overpriced for the environment. Fish taco's are packed with cabbage, and three pieces of laser cut tomato. I will go back occasionally but will not be frequenting the place.

You can't go wrong with this place. Amazing food. Very fresh and so tasty. Cook at this place is at it's best. Doing a great job on the food. Fish is outstanding. No wonder people like it so much. Great for a dinner, along with some nice wine or beverage of your choice.

If I could give a 4.5/5 I would, but too bad we do not have that option!
The only reason why the place didn't score perfect was that I thought the fries were kind of tasteless and had hoped for some herbs and spices for seasoning. Although I do understand that it is to compliment the fish and seafood, I found it hard to consume it without seasoning and left me with a bland taste.
I had the Fish Shrimp Scallop plate for $10.99 because I wanted to taste their entire variety out of the fryer. I came with a hungry stomach and was not able to finish the plate, the portions were HUGE. I liked how they gave cole slaw on the side to mix up the flavors, as well as tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and other condiments available.
My boyfriend ordered the Grilled Salmon with garlic butter. I had a taste and it was delicious, something I'd recommend over the fried foods.
Quality fresh fish. Small cute restaurant. Mostly will come again in the far far future if I ever have a grilled fish craving. -

One of the new additions to the lunch crew was craving some fish tacos today. Thanks to Yelp, found our way to the Long Beach Fish Grill.
Limited parking. Limited seating. Not really great for groups.
But the food is pretty good. I ordered the House Combo (Deep fried Fish x2, Shrimp, Scallops which also comes with French Fries). It does take a while which our party noticed as several customers came in after us, but were given their orders before ours arrived.
No complaints though as when our meals arrived, it was definitely worth the wait. The staff definitely has the deep frying process dialed in. Nothing was over or undercooked. I enjoyed every morsel until I had cleared my plate.
Will be back again and again ... -

Second time there on a Saturday at 12:35PM. Yeah, the fish tacos are the bomb but should you have to wait 25 minutes for one? I really don't know what their problem was today. One person taking orders at the busiest times and today 1/2 of a cook. Seems they do one plate at a time by the piecemeal way the food was being delivered. So, if you have two hours for lunch, this place might work for you.

After months of reading a review I finally got myself here.
I went in on a Friday about 8:30pm with my little one.
There was a group of folks, who acted like they were the only ones in the place, oblivious to the fact there was someone standing behind.
From what I gathered it was the first time they'd been there too.
After about 10 mins, we finally got to order. I have to hand it to the young man behind the counter for his extreme patience.
I ordered the shrimp taco plate, and the trout for the little one.
They were quick with my order and the tacos came with black beans, and rice. The tacos were pretty good. The trout came with fries, coleslaw and was not over salty.
The place itself is no frills, but I think most people call in and pick up.
The price was pretty good and comparable to other places. I'll definitely be trying again. -

It's kind of like Build-a-Bear, only you get to eat it. (Well I guess you COULD eat a Build-a-Bear- you would be stuffed for sure- ha!). It's like Build-a-Bear because the meals are custom made. You pick one of a dozen fish items, pick grilled or fried, pick a flavor (cajun, garlic, etc), pick a side (mmm, they really coat the grilled butter with zucchini), and it comes with garlic toast and cole slaw. The food was fresh, fast, and not expensive.
What else is good? You order at the counter- no wasting time, and the staff was friendly. You can grab free soda refills when you need them, and the wine (pinot grigio) was as good as Nico's (Naples). The place is clean and uncrowded with a flat screen, patio, and a huge saltwater tank, which must be pretty traumatic for the fish inside.
Oh, and a high five for carrying both LA Weekly AND OC Weekly free.
Only in Long Beach. Of course, this is not a book review. Back to the restaurant:
What could be improved? The lighting. The lighting is like a cafeteria, and therefore feels cold and cheap and like Danny Rennick is going to come take my lunch money. (OK, maybe that last part is just me). The too bright atmosphere makes Subway feel like a Mortons.
Basically it is a great place for lunch, but lacks a great ambiance for dinner, whether or not that is important for you. -

Me and my crew were doing an eviction across the street and I yelped for nearby eateries for lunch, found this place was highly recommended. Other than the service was slow and they were already out of the special catch of the day the fish tacos were awesome.

I was totally surprised by this place. It's in an awkward place on Redondo and doesn't look like much, but the food is better than most places in Long Beach with more upscale atmospheres. They do takeout or dine-in. If you eat there, the food comes on lunch trays, it's very cafeteria-like but once you taste the fish it really won't even matter. A hidden gem!

San Gabriel, CA
My brother introduced me to this place and I've been back a couple of times but I just can't see what he sees. Okay, they have a decent, fresh fish grilled with garlic butter. The rice pilaf was kinda bland.
The place just reminded me of the California Fish Grill (a chain store), but they didn't do enough in my opinion. If you're going to copy a successful business, you have to do it so you have the exact same quality and feel and be able to charge less. Otherwise, you need to make it better and charge a similar price. Well, I strongly feel they haven't done a better job and are charging just as much if not more than the CA Fish Grill.
I think the business may survive only because there isn't a competing, similar store nearby. One thing I would recommend to the owners.... if you're reading this, make a salsa bar along with a great tartar sauce. I really love the New England tartar sauce and the different salsas from CA Fish Grill.
I hope to see some changes if I happen to come back. -

This little restaurant that looks very normal from the outside is actually delicious! The fish is simply delish! And you pick how you want it (cajun, butter and garlic, etc). The side are really good (I recommend the portobello or the zucchini).
The shrimps are also very good.
If you like fish, you must try this place. -

This is another on my long list of places to try before leaving Long Beach. Why, oh why, did I have to try this place so late?? I've lived down the street for a year...*kicks self*
Anyway, despite how small and deceptively dingy the place looks from the outside, it's clean inside, the staff are friendly and a bit chatty, and the food is cooked well.
I got the grilled tilapia with garlic butter sauce (go big or go home) and, attempting to be a *little* healthier, paid extra for the grilled zucchini. DO IT. The grilled zucchini is GOOD. It's likely cooked in butter, which is probably why it's so good (and which totally defeats the purpose of ordering it...). The fish is also tasty though a little mild in flavor, and the garlic bread is soft and won't break your teeth like some bread does.
If you live in the area, I definitely suggest checking this place out sooner rather than later. -

The place is just a casual place. Tables are bare and you get your meal on trays and paper plates and plastic forks. Now for the food, they do have very fresh fish and the service is very friendly. Our lunch meal came with garlic toast which was very good. Cost was $9.95 with one side that you can choose.
Will certainly go back when I am back down south again. -

Long Beach, CA
Pros:
-Good selection of fish.
-My fish wasn't overcooked.
-The staff is friendly.
-Clean.
-Outside seating is great and rare for the area.
Cons:
-The whole place is bare minimum, as you may guess from its outside appearance. The tables, decoration, menus, everything is easily the cheapest thing they could find, which makes it feel more like a fish shack with seating.
-They serve you with plastic forks and paper plates.
-Price. The menu posted on here from 2009 is outdated. All of the grilled fish start at $9.99 and go up to $18.99. I paid $12.50 for 6oz of blackened Catfish and no sides as I didn't want rice pilaf, bread, or coleslaw. They were out of grilled zucchini, which was extra anyway.
Conclusion: As it is now, the food pricing does not meet the atmosphere. There are much better places for grilled fish, many of which don't even specialize in fish and can still get it right.
I'd like to add that the fish I received on 6/28/11 (Catfish) was much smaller than any of the pictured fillets. Did I just get a fluke? I'm kicking myself right now because I decided to not photograph my fish for yelp since I already took a bite out of it. Doh! -

This spot is a local's fave spot for anyone in the LBC. The fish and chips plate is my favorite thing to order here! Chucky and I come here every now and again it never dissapoints. We came here the other day for lunch and again ordered my favorite. The fried fish that come on the plate come in 3 huge almost ruler sized pieces and the tartar sauce is always made to perfection. The slaw that the plate comes with is on the sweet side and my taste buds likey.
Chucky also got a side of the fish tacos and they looked mighty tasty as well. The service is on par and the staff are super friendly to every customer. We always feel welcomed here. They serve alcohol here which is always a plus. I have yet to try the salmon here and other goodies on the menu. I'll leave those for next time.Listed in: Great finds and Good Grinds

WOW! This place is GREAT! If you're on the fence-just go!!! Based on others reviews, I expected great food and crummy atmosphere but the food was lovely and fresh and the atmosphere was FINE plus the staff is very friendly. I had shrimp kabobs from the grill with grilled zucchini. My friend had the grilled trout and we split. The shrimp was very fresh and the trout was like butter. Each came with a grilled garlic toast and coleslaw, both were tasty. Prices are reasonable- from $2.75 for a fish taco to $17 for the grilled swordfish. After one visit, the only reason I with-held the 5th star is due to the paper plate and plastic cutlery...REALLY???
Anyway-this place is now on heavy rotation. :) -

My boyfriend has raved and raved about this place, so I was definitely excited to get a taste when I finally visited socal (the 5 hour drive down probably helped with the hunger factor). He wasn't kidding about how often he went; they knew his name, even after months away!!
Their food is fresh, healthy, and most importantly, delicious! Per recommendations, I got the catfish with cajun seasoning, with brown rice. Definitely one of the best catfish meals I've ever had. And I loved how simple and low key the restaurant is...just no-nonsense, great seafood. The most hilarious part? They were playing the FoodNetwork on their television and for the first time in my life, I thought, "Nah, I like what I'm eating in front of me, thankyouverymuch."
I can't wait for the next trip down! -

Another great find right down the street from my usual hangout. THANKS YELP!
SO GOOD. Somewhat expensive for a little to go place but I always think its worth it. I spend a little less then 20$ for two dinners. Every time I go I get grilled asparagus, salmon, and rice pilaf. I don't have the largest stomach but for some reason I can eat all of this in seconds. ITS BECAUSE ITS SO GOOD. I love how they have a bunch of variety and how you can choose what fish you want with what sauce. Its really a hidden gem because its pretty much on the outskirts of what starts to be really ghetto Long Beach. When you eat it you just feel healthy. Its so good. SO GOOD. -

I love this place for a low key, healthy meal. I hate having to go to a fancy seafood restaurant that rapes my wallet to get my fish fix. At Long Beach Fish Grill I can a yummy delicious fish dinner or lunch served on a paper plate in a casual environment. I stick with some kind of grilled fish with cajun seasoning and add grilled zucchini as a side (I think it's like a dollar extra, but so worth it). I love having the option to make my meal healthy, but I love even more that I get a piece of delicious garlic bread so I'm not overwhelmed by healthiness. I've tried the fried fish and chips and it was good, not your usual batter, but still very good.
I have yet to try the tacos and the chowder, but it's on my list... if only I could get my bf to go here with me, he seems deterred by the healthiness of it all. I really should try to sell the fried fish options better.
The price is right for fresh fish and it's easy and fast. Oh, and the portions are quite large. Definitely a fav for me out here in the LB.Listed in: Long Beach Eats, Healthy and Happy

Review from Angela T.
On our way to Berth 55, I wanted to see if there was a better, wallet friendly alternative to my beloved red snapper plate. Lo and behold, Long Beach Fish Grill appeared. I thank my lucky stars for going on that hunch and heading over here instead. It only took once chance meeting, but I'm hooked!
It's located next to a pretty big plaza, but it's separated with it's own fence and parking. Parking is sparse, but there is parking on the street as well. There's even a cute blue fish bike rack in front, not sure if that was intended or just a coincidence, but it goes with the theme. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect in the interior, but I was pleasantly surprised. In my head, I was thinking hole in the wall, but this was anything but.
They have sleek and modernized wooden tables and chairs, an open kitchen, patio seating, colorful menu with fish descriptìon next to it, and they serve alcohol, which includes wine. I counted the tables myself...there are 9 tables inside and 4 in the patio area. The tables are small, just fyi.
I ordered the Red Snapper plate from the grill side of the menu. It has your choice of seasoning, such as garlic butter, cajun, or teriyaki. It comes with coleslaw, slice of garlic bread, and your choice of a side. Depending on what side you get, it may cost a dollar more, but at these prices, I'm not complaining. I got the steamed vegetables which came with carrots, zucchini, broccoli, and cabbage. A slice of lemon completed my dish, and it made tmy fish go from good to wow!! I squeezed that baby all over my fish and veggies. I got the cajun seasoning, and I think that was the best seasoning for my tastes. It wasn't hot, but it made the fish very flavorful. I had a taste of the salmon with garlic butter, maybe because I'm not a fan of butter.
Overall, 2 people with drinks for under $30 and for seafood, no less. That's a steal! Great service and they do serve brown rice, another plus. I would come here every week if only I lived closer, but once a month will do just fine. If you want to eat something healthy and won't pinch your wallet, head on over to Long Beach Fish Grill...hope you like it as much as I did.Listed in: No meat, A-OK!
